The climatic changes, miniaturization, and digitalization have redefined the technological development in the cooling and energy storage industries. The global focus is on the environmental-friendly, efficient, sustainable, and scalable cooling technologies. Owing to all these factors, green alternatives to the traditional air-conditioning and refrigeration are gaining momentum. One of such green alternatives is the electrocaloric effect (ECE). The electrocaloric effect is observed in dielectric materials as they undergo an adiabatic temperature change or an isothermal entropy change under an externally applied/removed electric field. Dielectric materials are capable to store the electrical energy as well. Therefore, they are particularly interesting for the new cooling and energy storage technologies. In this work, a ferroelectric relaxor polymer, namely, Poly(vinylidene fluoride – trifluoroethylene – chlorofluoroethylene) (P(VDF–TrFE–CFE) is investigated for the electrocaloric effect through the direct and the indirect methods. The electrical energy storage properties of different compositions of P(VDF–TrFE–CFE) and their nanocomposites with inorganic 0D nanofillers are studied. Initially, the relaxor properties in six different compositions of P(VDF–TrFE–CFE) are studied. Out of these six compositions, the three compositions, 51.3/48.7/6.2, 59.8/40.2/7.3, and 70/30/8.1, are analyzed for the first time. The field induced phase transition results in a double hysteresis loop in a few compositions. Through the direct electrocaloric measurements, it is observed that the electric field induced phase transition results in a higher electrocaloric temperature change. The indirect electrocaloric measurements are conducted with and without compensating the leakage current. It is shown that the indirect method can lead to erroneous results due to the leakage current. The results obtained through the indirect measurements conducted with the leakage current compensation are comparable to the direct measurements. The electrical energy storage properties of the neat terpolymers and their nanocomposites are compared. It is observed that the stored and discharged energy densities of the nanocomposites are superior to the neat terpolymers. Dissertation, Universität Duisburg-Essen, 2022

With the increase in energy of the Large Hadron Collider to a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV for Run 2, events with dense environments, such as in the cores of high-energy jets, became a focus for new physics searches as well as measurements of the Standard Model. These environments are characterized by charged-particle separations of the order of the tracking detectors sensor granularity. Basic track quantities are compared between 3.2 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected by the ATLAS experiment and simulation of proton-proton collisions producing high-transverse-momentum jets at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The impact of charged-particle separations and multiplicities on the track reconstruction performance is discussed. The efficiency in the cores of jets with transverse momenta between 200 GeV and 1600 GeV is quantified using a novel, data-driven, method. The method uses the energy loss, dE/dx, to identify pixel clusters originating from two charged particles. Of the charged particles creating these clusters, the measured fraction that fail to be reconstructed is $0.061 \pm 0.006 \textrm{(stat.)} \pm 0.014 \textrm{(syst.)}$ and $0.093 \pm 0.017 \textrm{(stat.)}\pm 0.021 \textrm{(syst.)}$ for jet transverse momenta of 200-400 GeV and 1400-1600 GeV, respectively. The case brings forward a real-life situation of an organization that is engaged in the exciting but also risky journey of implementing a green innovation at a large scale. The case is written in a way that allows students to reflect and think about the organizational and leadership challenges and opportunities involved. The teacher can activate these reflections in the context of various possible theoreyical and analytical frameworks, in a number of possible different courses. The case is about Exergi, the main utility company producing district heating in Stockholm. After successfully transitioning from coal to bio-energy sources, since 2020 Exergi has embarked on a new and far more ambitious venture: Bioenergy Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS). This technology captures CO2 emissions from biomass combustion and stores them, potentially resulting in negative emissions. BECCS plays a central role in IPCC mitigation pathways and Exergi has recognized an opportunity, but venturing into this uncharted territory presents numerous challenges. BECCS is a new and untested technology at an industrial scale, requiring substantial investments, and a market for selling carbon removal certificates (CRC) that does not exist yet. Though promising for reaching net zero targets in time, the viability of BECCS for Exergi depends on a supportive regulatory framework, cross-border cooperation, and the creation of a CRC market. To navigate these challenges, Exergi relies on creating an innovative organizational culture as well as mobilizing external stakeholders. Hence, CEO Anders Egelrudhas hired individuals with entrepreneurial mindsets, and sought external expertise as well as creating strong networks and communication approach. Yet, some internal tensions have also come to the fore, due to the rapid internal dynamics. Overall, Exergi's transition from coal to BECCS reflects the commitment to sustainable practices by an incumbent, and its willingnessto size new opportunities. The company's success driving this transformation forward hinges on many events coming together, both external and internal to the firm.

This study takes Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) as the field of study in Egypt. The main aim of this study is to propose a new Sustainable Logistics Service Quality (SLSQ) framework through reviewing Sustainable Service Quality (SSQ), Egyptian laws related to Sustainability and Logistics Service Quality (LSQ) for enhancing Customer Satisfaction (CS) and Relationship Quality (RQ) in Egypt. This research starts with the literature review to derive out the research questions. Four research questions were presented in order to state the research gap. This research integrates the concept of SSQ and LSQ as one process to be evaluated from the customer perspective as called SLSQ. After that, it measures the effect of SLSQ on LSP’s customer satisfaction and relationship quality. To collect the research data, a mixed method approach has been used in this research, starting from the semi-structured interviews in phase one (part one) to validate the SSQ elements. In phase one (part two), the SLSQ elements have been generated and validated through evaluation tools. Finally, in phase two, the questionnaire is designed and distributed to the target sample. The results show that SLSQ would have a significant positive effect on customer satisfaction. The findings show that customers satisfied with SLSQ will partially support the relationship between an LSP and its customers. Moreover, the findings show that CS fully mediates the relation between SLSQ and RQ. SLSQ elements focused mainly on sustainable transport, time, product condition, training programmes and collaboration. These aspects are the ones that Egyptian LSPs should consider when they present services, and the Egyptian government should consider these aspects as a power to make a sustainable development in LSP field. Esta tesis incluye el trabajo hecho en ICIQ sobre fabricación, caracterización, y modelización de celdas solares de perovskita hibrida. Provenientes desde la investigación en otros tipos de celdas solares, las herramientas de análisis, las metodologías, y, aún más importante, su interpretación han sido analizadas y adaptadas a este nuevo tipo de dispositivo. Entonces, estas técnicas han sido utilizadas para analizar y entender la influencia de cuatros diferentes y novedosos transportadores de huecos electrónicos sobre el voltaje de celdas de perovskita. Otro estudio ha investigado la acumulación de electrones en las celdas utilizando pequeños cambios en el grosor de cada capa y analizando las muestras con las mismas técnicas. Desde mi estancia internacional en los grupos del Dr. Piers Barnes y de la Prof. Jenny Nelson en Imperial College London otro estudio ha sido llevado al cabo sobre la complexa interpretación de los resultados de espectroscopia de impedancia en presencia de iones móviles en las celdas de perovskita. Además, se expone todos los programas libres que han sido desarrollados para la adquisición y procesamiento de datos y para la modelización deriva-difusión de celdas solares de perovskita. Agafades des de la recerca en altres tipus de cel·les solars, les eines de anàlisi, les metodologies i, més important, la seva interpretació han sigut analitzades i adaptades a aquest nou tipus de dispositiu. Coming from other kind of solar cells, the analysis tools, the methods, and, most importantly, their interpretation have been analysed and adapted to this new kind of device. Then, these techniques has been employed for analysing and understanding the influence of four different and novel hole transport materials on perovskite solar cells voltage. Another study focussed on the electrons accumulation in devices employing small variations in each stacked layer thickness and analysing the samples using the same techniques. From by international stay in Dr. Piers Barnes and Prof. Jenny Nelson groups in Imperial College London another study was originated exploring the complex interpretation of impedance spectroscopy results when applied on perovskite solar cells with mobile ions. Finally, all the free software that has been developed for data acquisition and processing and for drift-diffusion modelling of perovskite solar cells have been exposed. Moving beyond prior studies on the intertemporal tensions between the short term and long term, we focus on the temporal work that is required for corporationsto address these tensions and extend temporal orientations in highly institutionalized and complex temporal orders. We empirically investigate different practices of temporal work by studying a strategic sustainability initiative at a big German automotive manufacturer. Drawingon rich interview, documentary and press data, we discover and theorize the interplay of four intersecting forms of temporal work: explicit vs. implicit and aspirational vs. translational types of temporal work. Importantly, we find that explicit-translational temporal work—the primary focus of much prior research—in itself was not sufficient for deep-level strategic change. Only when it was coupled with more implicit and aspirational forms of temporal work, such change was made more likely. We deepen current research on organizational temporality by theorizing the interplay between the four modes of temporal work and their relation to changing established temporal structures. Our theorizing sheds new light on how actors and organizations can build new trajectories of change by engaging in temporal work and how such trajectoriescan support the transition toward corporate sustainability.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the possibility of two step harvesting system for giant reed. The biomass was shredded and dried in the field, in second time was baled and storage. First step was cutting and shredding with a specific shredder for biomass crops rear mounted in agricultural tractor and in the second time the Arundo biomass was harvested after more day of drying in the field with continuous monitoring of the biomass moisture content. This harvesting system presents some advantages such as: the possibility of long storage of biomass (moisture content lover 14-15%), baled with a farm mechanization for hay making, possibilities of diversified use of the dried biomass (combustion and II generation ethanol). The test showed technical and energy aspect of the harvest technology but there is necessary one specific machine for shredder while the other are normally presents in the farm. The machine adopted for shredder, designed and developed by Italian constructor for more biomass herbaceous crops (Arundo, Sorghum, Panicum, Mischantus, etc..) is indicated for high vegetative developed crop and can spread the product in all soil surface or windrowing. The tests were conducted in the South of Italy (Campania region) in an experimental farm of Torrelama. The tests have showed a good performance slightly lower than 1.5 ha h-1 (1.47) with operative speed of 4.88 km h-1. The hourly production is 58.35 t ha-1 with a biomass moisture content of 42.51%. Fast growing trees planted as Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) are an important source of lignocellulosic biomass, due to their high yields, good combustion quality, ecological and social benefits and relatively low production costs. The quality and the price of the biomass are determined by its particle size distribution, heating value, moisture and ash content. These parameters can vary significantly as a function of the wood species and the time between the cutting phase and the chipping phase.In 2015, the Department of Agriculture of the University of Naples Federico II and the Consiglio per la ricerca in agricoltura e l’analisi dell’economia agraria (Crea), carried out some tests to identify the characteristics of the chips in eight different species grown as SRC, chipped after two months of storage: Fraxinus angustifolia, Robinia pseudoacacia, Salix alba, Populus nigra (Limatola) and four genotypes of Populus x euroamericana (Grimminge, Vesten, Hoogvorst, Muur). The average moisture content of the species was 29.30%, with an average heating value and ash content of 21.77 MJ kg-1 and 2.02%, respectively. These values differ among the various species and genotypes considered. The particle size distribution analysis revealed, instead, that independently from the species, the most represented class size was 45 to 3 mm. The variability observed in terms of dried biomass quality suggest the possibility to identify the species more suitable for the biomass combustion analyzing the mainly quality parameters, choosing the best species or different species mix wood chips to offer a better product in the commercial biomass marketing. Claus Hedegaard Sørensen in OpenAIREThis following special issue of the European Journal of Transport Infrastructure Research (EJTIR) containing 4 scientific papers is the result of the work conducted under the research project ‘National Transport Planning – Sustainability, Institutions and Tools’ (SUSTAIN) (2012- 2017) financed by the Danish Innovation Fund. SUSTAIN was coordinated by first the Department of Transport of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Transport) and later as the result of a reorganisation of the transport research at DTU by the Department of Management Engineering (DTU Management Engineering). The project was carried out in cooperation with several Danish and international partners. In SUSTAIN the following definition of national sustainable transport planning (NSTP) was adopted: deliberate, knowledge-based, and strategic endeavours to integrate sustainability principles, criteria and goals in the development, management, regulation and assessment of nationally significant transport systems and services. This paper presents the research outcome by reviewing some of the major findings and seeing these collectively as a basis for promoting sustainability through the formulated research topic of NSTP. This basis includes defining criteria and indicators for use in NSTP combining evidence-based and performance oriented planning approaches. Furthermore, it contains a flexible evaluation framework that includes a decision support model that when informed by criteria and indicators can structure and assist an NSTP practice. This practice can support a planning process aiming at realising a sustainable transport development. Finally, the basis comprises a review of the complex political and administrative fabric in which NSTP is embedded, and thereby it can condition the ability to promote sustainability in practice.

The disciplinary debate of urban planner scientific community focus today on urban regeneration, stimulated by the pursuit of multiple objectives: ecological sustainability, social inclusiveness and resilience are probably the ones that most arouse the interest of urban planners. However, we register a prolificacy of meanings for urban regeneration that is often confused with building maintenance and adaptation. This is not necessarily wrong but, in a period of public budget restriction, the simply not focusing on primary objectives often hinders the much more necessary processes of intimate transformation of urban fabric and of functions which are central in urban regeneration. Nevertheless, in the last twenty years, the Italian legislator has exploited this ambiguity and preferred to concentrate the available resources on interventions on a building scale rather than properly on an urban scale. There are many reasons underlying this choice. Certainly, the distrust in the urban planning procedures, which are considered too long, uncertain and do not give immediate electoral consensus, seems to be the main. From this evidence emerges the reflection on the need to rethink the legislative framework of urban planning as an indispensable condition for the start of a season of real regeneration of urban settlements.
