The renewable energy capacities in Ukraine on 01.07.2021 were at 9225 MW. The solar power plants were topping with 7284 МВт or 79% of total, including 6351 MW of network and 933 MW of household capacities. Wind farms followed it with 1593 MW. Bioenergy plants had 230 MW of the total capacities including 119 MW on biomass and 111 MW on biogas. The small-scale hydro plants had 118 MW. Solar and geothermal heating were not widespread. The article describes the activities of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences’ (NANU) Institute for Energy, results of state regulations of the renewable energy market, the state of affairs with equipment production for solar and wind plants.

The article presents the data of International Renewable Energy Agency REN21 and Institute ofr Environmental Technologies AEF INTEC (Austria). In 2020 in electricity production hydroenergy topped (1170 GW, 4370 TWh), then wind enegy (743 GW, 1743 TWh), solar energy (708 GW; 901 TWh), bioenergy (602 TWh), geothermal energy (14 GW; 947 TWh). In heat production biomass comes first (4323 TWh), then solar thermal plants (501 GW, 407 TWh), and geothermal plants (108 GW, 284 TWh). In Russia by 01.01.2021 capacities and electricity generation were respectively: all power plants ��� 245.3 GW and 1047 TWh/year; hydro plants ��� 50 GW (20.4%) and 207.4 TWh (19.8%), solar plants ��� 1.7 GW (0.7%) and 1.98 TWh (0.19%), wind plants ��� 1.03 GW (0.42%) and 1.38 TWh (0.13%). The study also describes the state of the Russian market of renewable energy, and the role of the government in its development. There are presented the results of 2020 for small hydro energy (1182 MW), solar thermal (70 MW), geothermal energy (electricity ��� 84 MW and 428 MWh/year; heat ��� 110 MW and 280 MWh), bio-generation (electricity ��� 65.2 GWh and heat ��� 25.7 TWh).

There is presented the 2nd part of the article that points on the financial arrangements for wind station development, the principle investors and equipment producers. The work presents an analysis of 100-year development of the Russian scientific school, implementations of their concepts, the principle designs of wind turbine. There are noticed the roles of N.E. Zhukovsky as a founder of Russian wind industy, and of his pupils, activities of sucg institutions as CAHI, Central Wind-Industrial, Electrification and Mechanization of Agriculture, NPO Vetroen. There are pointed on the principle achievements of the Soviet wind industry: a wind power plant in Balaklava (100 kW, 1931), wind engines VD-8 (1300 units, 1936), Arctic wind power stations CVEI-D-12 (15 kW, 1936), a wind-diesel station in Kazakhstan (400 kW, 1957). The article reviews the first wind plants in the CIS countries, in Crimea - 110 MW on the base of the KB Yuzhnoe (Dnepropetrovsk) wind turbines, at Kulikovo village in Kaliningrad region ��� 5.1 MW, gives a list of the major wind and wind-diesel plants and evaluates the prospects of Russian wind industry development.
