Cassava roots are an excellent source of energy that can be used fresh, dried or as silage in swine feeding programs. Chopped fresh roots with a low cyanide content can be given to pigs throughout their life cycle, separately or mixed with a supplement that contains proteins, minerals and vitamins. Roots with a high cyanide content are not easily consumed by pigs because of their high linamarin content. High levels of cassava meal (60-70 percent) have been studied experimentally at CIAT and compared to common maize-based diets in integrated feed programs for the pig's life cycle. Performance of weaned piglets was inferior in the cassava- based feed programs. Met supplementation did not seem essential in diets based on CM. Whole cassava roots can be stored in silos covered with earth, or chopped and kept in polyethylene bags or in trench silos, for periods up to 6 mo without a significant loss in their nutritional value as swine feed. Root silage kept up to 6 mo is easily consumed by pigs. Cassava forage production for ruminants offers very good perspectives. Cassava leaf meal can be used in relatively low levels (~ 20 percent) in diets for growing and finishing pigs. There are possibilities of using higher levels in diets for gestating sows. Because of its low protein content, feeding programs based on high levels of cassava require considerable quantities of protein supplement in comparison to programs that use conventional energy sources such as cereal grains. These aspects should be considered in economic studies on the feasibility of using cassava in animal nutrition. En el marco del Programa SERVIR-Amazonía, una iniciativa de la Administración Nacional de Aeronáutica y Espacio de Estados Unidos (NASA) y de la Agencia de Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (USAID), se organizó el primer taller: “Consulta de Necesidades de Usuarios del Programa SERVIR-Amazonia”, en Lima-Perú, los días 15 y 16 de Julio de 2019. El objetivo de este taller, al cual asistieron 59 personas de más de 20 organizaciones, fue el de obtener una primera aproximación, desde la perspectiva de los actores involucrados, sobre los principales problemas/amenazas que afronta la Amazonía enmarcadas en las 4 áreas temáticas. En base a esta información, y a través de un proceso participativo de dos días, se identificaron necesidades de información y oportunidades para la mejor toma de decisiones que permitan priorizar el co-diseño de servicios. Durante el taller se facilitó una discusión inicial acerca de las percepciones de los participantes sobre el estado actual de la toma de decisiones ambientales basadas en información geoespacial en Perú. El mapeo de los servicios existentes y actores claves se realizó de manera participativa y guiado por las áreas temáticas. Este mapeo es el principal insumo para la priorización de los servicios a desarrollar durante el Programa y se usará en la fase de definición y do-desarrollo de los mismos. Este ejercicio mostró que ya existe mucha información, actores y servicios existentes. Asimismo, se identificaron 7 necesidades principales respecto a la mejora del uso de información geoespacial en el Perú: monitoreo y alertas tempranas, enfoque al usuario, estandarización de la información, coordinación multisectorial, interoperabilidad, recursos humanos y financieros, y automatización.

El presente estudio pretende utilizar los datos de cuatro escenarios de emisión (RCP 2.6, 4.5, 6.0 y 8.5) en dos periodos de tiempo (2050 y 2080) para determinar el impacto del cambio climático en el cultivo de café para las regiones cafetaleras de Costa Rica. El estudio se realizó con los puntos georeferenciados obtenidos de ICAFE y utilizando el modelo MaxEnt como simulador de la adaptabilidad del cultivo de café. Los resultados muestran que hay diferencias entre escenarios, pero existen tendencias como es en el caso de la temperatura que aumenta en todos los escenarios mientras que la precipitación tiene a bajar con excepción de Turrialba que aumenta entre un 60 y 160mm acumulados promedio anual. El cultivo de café en promedio tiende a disminuir adaptabilidad siendo el Valle Central y Occidental las regiones cafetaleras más afectadas, las regiones de Tarrazú y Pérez Zeledón aumentan con valores de 13 % y 15% en zonas con una altitud alta. Innovaciones agroforestales y manejo oportuno y adecuado del cultivo son unas de las estrategias de mitigación y adaptación del cambio climático en el cultivo de café, brindando herramientas y conocimiento al caficultor para ser resiliente frente al cambio.

Este informe constituye el cuarto y último reporte del estudio “Productividad de la tierra y rendimiento del sector agropecuario medido a través de los indicadores de crecimiento verde en el marco de la misión de crecimiento verde en Colombia” elaborado por la alianza CIAT, CCAFS, CRECE por solicitud de GGGI y DNP. El documento contiene un breve resumen del diagnóstico presentado en informes previos, las acciones estratégicas priorizadas para superar las barreras identificadas a través de diversas formas de consulta con actores clave y los respectivos costos de dichas acciones priorizadas. De igual forma, contiene una síntesis de los principales instrumentos financieros y económicos del sector agropecuario y recomendaciones gruesas para incorporar los criterios de crecimiento verde a dichos instrumentos existentes. Finalmente, contiene las recomendaciones de política general y las recomendaciones técnicas específicas para la Misión de Crecimiento Verde según los hallazgos en el diagnóstico realizado en el marco del estudio. Conidia suspended in aqueous solution were spread on Petri dishes containing agar-agar and were placed under a UV lamp ( λ = 254 nm). Without sunscreen, exposure of conidia to UV-C light reduced germination after 40 s from 80-95% to 5-2%, for QU-M221b and QU-M363, respectively. Using the solar screen Blankophor P167® â at 1% w/v, conidia germination decreased after 40 s from 68-82% to 50-33% for QU-M221b and QU-M363, respectively. Results indicate that the sunscreen Blankophor P167 is a potential adjuvant to be used in biopesticides based on M. anisopliae .

En este documento se presenta doce escenarios socioeconómicos cualitativos futuros sobre la agricultura y seguridad alimentaria nutricional al 2050 en Guatemala. Los escenarios fueron creados de manera participativa durante los meses de marzo, abril y mayo de 2019 en el marco del proyecto Un Viaje Común, coordinado por el Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT), financiado por el Fondo Internacional de Desarrollo Agrícola (FIDA) y el programa de investigación en Cambio Climático Agricultura y Seguridad Alimentaria (CCAFS). El componente de Escenarios Futuros del proyecto Un Viaje Común es liderado por la Universidad para la Cooperación Internacional (UCI) en coordinación con CIAT y CCAFS. El proceso de desarrollo de los escenarios culminó con un taller presencial el 15 y 16 de mayo del 2019, del cual participaron 30 funcionarios en representación de entidades estatales, academia, productores, y representantes de cooperación internacional. El objetivo del taller fue desarrollar y analizar de manera participativa escenarios socioeconómicos futuros sobre la agricultura y la seguridad alimentaria nutricional en Guatemala hasta el año 2050. A través de este proceso, el proyecto apoyará la toma de decisiones sobre inversiones (programas, políticas, proyectos) del estado la cooperación, el sector privado y los productores para mejorar la resiliencia del sector frente al cambio climático y al mismo tiempo fortalecer capacidades locales en la construcción y uso de escenarios socioeconómicos futuros. Los doce escenarios futuros fueron creados mediante la combinación de factores de cambio que impactaran la agricultura y la seguridad alimentaria nutricional (SAN). El estudio “Presente y futuro de las juventudes rurales en la región SICA ante el escenario de COVID-19: Análisis de género, de opiniones, valores, expectativas, vivencias y proyectos de vida” fue realizado, entre marzo y mayo de 2021, en El Salvador, Guatemala y Honduras, busca: a) Recabar información y analizar las opiniones, valores, vivencias y conductas de los y las jóvenes rurales de tres países de la región del SICA (El Salvador, Guatemala y Honduras) en relación con la pandemia COVID-19 y su incidencia en distintos planos: educación, trabajo, salud, violencia, relaciones entre los géneros, participación ciudadana/política y asociativismo, medioambiente, cambio climático y desastres naturales, b) Indagar, en particular, de qué manera esta pandemia influye en las expectativas y proyectos a futuro de los y las jóvenes a nivel personal, educativo y laboral y c) Analizar la información relevada desde un análisis de género e interseccional que permita identificar y sistematizar las diferencias y desigualdades entre los géneros en todos los aspectos seleccionados. El estudio, además, indagó acerca de las opiniones y explicaciones de los/as jóvenes rurales sobre distintos aspectos de la pandemia COVID 19, entre otros, ideas sobre su “origen”, consecuencias a nivel social, ambiental y medios priorizados para informarse, con el propósito de relevar los marcos de sentido que se construyen sobre esta etapa.

En el año 2011, el programa Cambio Climático Agricultura y Seguridad Alimentaria (CCAFS por sus siglas en inglés) del Grupo Consultivo para la Investigación Agrícola Internacional (CGIAR por sus siglas en inglés), inició estudios de línea base en sus sitios de referencia a nivel global. A finales del año 2014, se iniciaron dichos estudios en Latinoamérica en los sitios Trifinio (área fronteriza de El Salvador, Guatemala y Honduras) y en Nicaragua central. Este reporte presenta los resultados del estudio de línea base de hogares del bloque Olopa, departamento de Chiquimula en Guatemala, que forma parte del sitio CCAFS Trifinio. Se encuestaron 140 hogares de siete comunidades del Municipio Olopa.

Cassava roots are an excellent source of energy that can be used fresh, dried or as silage in swine feeding programs. Chopped fresh roots with a low cyanide content can be given to pigs throughout their life cycle, separately or mixed with a supplement that contains proteins, minerals and vitamins. Roots with a high cyanide content are not easily consumed by pigs because of their high linamarin content. High levels of cassava meal (60-70 percent) have been studied experimentally at CIAT and compared to common maize-based diets in integrated feed programs for the pig's life cycle. Performance of weaned piglets was inferior in the cassava- based feed programs. Met supplementation did not seem essential in diets based on CM. Whole cassava roots can be stored in silos covered with earth, or chopped and kept in polyethylene bags or in trench silos, for periods up to 6 mo without a significant loss in their nutritional value as swine feed. Root silage kept up to 6 mo is easily consumed by pigs. Cassava forage production for ruminants offers very good perspectives. Cassava leaf meal can be used in relatively low levels (~ 20 percent) in diets for growing and finishing pigs. There are possibilities of using higher levels in diets for gestating sows. Because of its low protein content, feeding programs based on high levels of cassava require considerable quantities of protein supplement in comparison to programs that use conventional energy sources such as cereal grains. These aspects should be considered in economic studies on the feasibility of using cassava in animal nutrition. En el marco del Programa SERVIR-Amazonía, una iniciativa de la Administración Nacional de Aeronáutica y Espacio de Estados Unidos (NASA) y de la Agencia de Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (USAID), se organizó el primer taller: “Consulta de Necesidades de Usuarios del Programa SERVIR-Amazonia”, en Lima-Perú, los días 15 y 16 de Julio de 2019. El objetivo de este taller, al cual asistieron 59 personas de más de 20 organizaciones, fue el de obtener una primera aproximación, desde la perspectiva de los actores involucrados, sobre los principales problemas/amenazas que afronta la Amazonía enmarcadas en las 4 áreas temáticas. En base a esta información, y a través de un proceso participativo de dos días, se identificaron necesidades de información y oportunidades para la mejor toma de decisiones que permitan priorizar el co-diseño de servicios. Durante el taller se facilitó una discusión inicial acerca de las percepciones de los participantes sobre el estado actual de la toma de decisiones ambientales basadas en información geoespacial en Perú. El mapeo de los servicios existentes y actores claves se realizó de manera participativa y guiado por las áreas temáticas. Este mapeo es el principal insumo para la priorización de los servicios a desarrollar durante el Programa y se usará en la fase de definición y do-desarrollo de los mismos. Este ejercicio mostró que ya existe mucha información, actores y servicios existentes. Asimismo, se identificaron 7 necesidades principales respecto a la mejora del uso de información geoespacial en el Perú: monitoreo y alertas tempranas, enfoque al usuario, estandarización de la información, coordinación multisectorial, interoperabilidad, recursos humanos y financieros, y automatización.

El presente estudio pretende utilizar los datos de cuatro escenarios de emisión (RCP 2.6, 4.5, 6.0 y 8.5) en dos periodos de tiempo (2050 y 2080) para determinar el impacto del cambio climático en el cultivo de café para las regiones cafetaleras de Costa Rica. El estudio se realizó con los puntos georeferenciados obtenidos de ICAFE y utilizando el modelo MaxEnt como simulador de la adaptabilidad del cultivo de café. Los resultados muestran que hay diferencias entre escenarios, pero existen tendencias como es en el caso de la temperatura que aumenta en todos los escenarios mientras que la precipitación tiene a bajar con excepción de Turrialba que aumenta entre un 60 y 160mm acumulados promedio anual. El cultivo de café en promedio tiende a disminuir adaptabilidad siendo el Valle Central y Occidental las regiones cafetaleras más afectadas, las regiones de Tarrazú y Pérez Zeledón aumentan con valores de 13 % y 15% en zonas con una altitud alta. Innovaciones agroforestales y manejo oportuno y adecuado del cultivo son unas de las estrategias de mitigación y adaptación del cambio climático en el cultivo de café, brindando herramientas y conocimiento al caficultor para ser resiliente frente al cambio.

Este informe constituye el cuarto y último reporte del estudio “Productividad de la tierra y rendimiento del sector agropecuario medido a través de los indicadores de crecimiento verde en el marco de la misión de crecimiento verde en Colombia” elaborado por la alianza CIAT, CCAFS, CRECE por solicitud de GGGI y DNP. Conidia suspended in aqueous solution were spread on Petri dishes containing agar-agar and were placed under a UV lamp ( λ = 254 nm). Without sunscreen, exposure of conidia to UV-C light reduced germination after 40 s from 80-95% to 5-2%, for QU-M221b and QU-M363, respectively. Using the solar screen Blankophor P167® â at 1% w/v, conidia germination decreased after 40 s from 68-82% to 50-33% for QU-M221b and QU-M363, respectively. Results indicate that the sunscreen Blankophor P167 is a potential adjuvant to be used in biopesticides based on M. anisopliae .

En este documento se presenta doce escenarios socioeconómicos cualitativos futuros sobre la agricultura y seguridad alimentaria nutricional al 2050 en Guatemala. Los escenarios fueron creados de manera participativa durante los meses de marzo, abril y mayo de 2019 en el marco del proyecto Un Viaje Común, coordinado por el Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT), financiado por el Fondo Internacional de Desarrollo Agrícola (FIDA) y el programa de investigación en Cambio Climático Agricultura y Seguridad Alimentaria (CCAFS). El componente de Escenarios Futuros del proyecto Un Viaje Común es liderado por la Universidad para la Cooperación Internacional (UCI) en coordinación con CIAT y CCAFS. El proceso de desarrollo de los escenarios culminó con un taller presencial el 15 y 16 de mayo del 2019, del cual participaron 30 funcionarios en representación de entidades estatales, academia, productores, y representantes de cooperación internacional. El objetivo del taller fue desarrollar y analizar de manera participativa escenarios socioeconómicos futuros sobre la agricultura y la seguridad alimentaria nutricional en Guatemala hasta el año 2050. A través de este proceso, el proyecto apoyará la toma de decisiones sobre inversiones (programas, políticas, proyectos) del estado la cooperación, el sector privado y los productores para mejorar la resiliencia del sector frente al cambio climático y al mismo tiempo fortalecer capacidades locales en la construcción y uso de escenarios socioeconómicos futuros. El estudio “Presente y futuro de las juventudes rurales en la región SICA ante el escenario de COVID-19: Análisis de género, de opiniones, valores, expectativas, vivencias y proyectos de vida” fue realizado, entre marzo y mayo de 2021, en El Salvador, Guatemala y Honduras, busca: a) Recabar información y analizar las opiniones, valores, vivencias y conductas de los y las jóvenes rurales de tres países de la región del SICA (El Salvador, Guatemala y Honduras) en relación con la pandemia COVID-19 y su incidencia en distintos planos: educación, trabajo, salud, violencia, relaciones entre los géneros, participación ciudadana/política y asociativismo, medioambiente, cambio climático y desastres naturales, b) Indagar, en particular, de qué manera esta pandemia influye en las expectativas y proyectos a futuro de los y las jóvenes a nivel personal, educativo y laboral y c) Analizar la información relevada desde un análisis de género e interseccional que permita identificar y sistematizar las diferencias y desigualdades entre los géneros en todos los aspectos seleccionados. El estudio, además, indagó acerca de las opiniones y explicaciones de los/as jóvenes rurales sobre distintos aspectos de la pandemia COVID 19, entre otros, ideas sobre su “origen”, consecuencias a nivel social, ambiental y medios priorizados para informarse, con el propósito de relevar los marcos de sentido que se construyen sobre esta etapa.

En el año 2011, el programa Cambio Climático Agricultura y Seguridad Alimentaria (CCAFS por sus siglas en inglés) del Grupo Consultivo para la Investigación Agrícola Internacional (CGIAR por sus siglas en inglés), inició estudios de línea base en sus sitios de referencia a nivel global. A finales del año 2014, se iniciaron dichos estudios en Latinoamérica en los sitios Trifinio (área fronteriza de El Salvador, Guatemala y Honduras) y en Nicaragua central. Este reporte presenta los resultados del estudio de línea base de hogares del bloque Olopa, departamento de Chiquimula en Guatemala, que forma parte del sitio CCAFS Trifinio. Se encuestaron 140 hogares de siete comunidades del Municipio Olopa.
