The paper presents an experimental study on the formation process of burden surface texture on the blast furnace throat and its influence on the radial distribution of gas flow. The study was performed with the application of blast furnaces equipped with a bell-type charging device using radio-isotope means for the control of burden surface texture (profile) and burden surface level, i.e., gamma locators for burden surface texture. The study was carried out under the conditions of an operating blast furnace in an iron and steel plant using a unique GEOTAPS system for automated control of geometric and temperature parameters of burden material surface on the blast furnace throat. The influence of the surface texture on the gas flow distribution was also investigated. The possibility of a self-stabilization effect for burden surface texture and gas flow in an operating blast furnace under suitable conditions was experimentally proven. As a result of the experimental study performed, four ways of energy-saving technology implementation were determined for the control of blast furnace melting based on the data on the burden surface texture and previously unknown regularities of surface layer formation of burden material on the throat of an operating blast furnace with a bell-type charging device. The main idea of the paper is the development of automated control for the radial distribution of burden material and gas flow using actual or predicted surface texture parameters as important intermediate factors that both describe the process and have a significant simultaneous influence on it.

Massa;PurposeThis study aims to critically review the research on food eco-labels to identify research gaps and recommend future research directions in business and management.Design/methodology/approachA hybrid integrated review combines bibliometric analysis with an in-depth framework-based study of theory–context–characteristics–methodology (TCCM) and reviews quality research published over 21 years between 2002 and 2022.FindingsWe identify key research themes and the knowledge structure of food eco-label research. Future researchers should explore food eco-label dynamics and phenomena in areas related to consumer behaviour, information, consumer knowledge, environmental concerns, trust, packaging and willingness-to-pay as antecedent factors.Research limitations/implicationsThis review contributes to the business and management literature by quantifying existing research and consolidating its evolution. The articles were sourced from the established Web of Science (WoS) database. Other databases should be included in future reviews. We also focus on research published in business and management. Further studies could include research beyond such specialised domains.Practical implicationsConsumers need more information on the objectives and meaning of food eco-labels. The dissemination of knowledge on eco-labels, as well as effective communication and information on eco-labels, are relevant to future research issues.Social implicationsThe knowledge derived from this research holds significant potential in shaping policies and devising tools aimed at reducing the carbon footprint linked to food production and consumption. Considering the substantial impact of these activities on our planet’s carbon footprint, addressing food security and sustainability emerges as a crucial concern for humanity. Recognising the importance of eco-label communication and information becomes particularly pertinent for future generations, who stand to bear the most substantial impact of climate change and sustainable development. These generations are also more inclined toward embracing and implementing sustainable practices.Originality/valueThere are no comprehensive, integrated reviews exploring the methods, variables and constructs used in studies on food eco-labels based on all articles published in WoS journals in the business and management domains. This is the first comprehensive literature review using a hybrid approach (bibliometric review with TCCM framework) in the field of food eco-label research.

Most of the world’s mountain glaciers have been retreating for more than a century in response to climate change. Glacier retreat is evident on all continents, and the rate of retreat has accelerated during recent decades. Accurate, spatially explicit information on the position of glacier margins over time is useful for analyzing patterns of glacier retreat and measuring reductions in glacier surface area. This information is also essential for evaluating how mountain ecosystems are evolving due to climate warming and the attendant glacier retreat. Here, we present a non-comprehensive spatially explicit dataset showing multiple positions of glacier fronts since the Little Ice Age (LIA) maxima, including many data from the pre-satellite era. The dataset is based on multiple historical archival records including topographical maps; repeated photographs, paintings, and aerial or satellite images with a supplement of geochronology; and own field data. We provide ESRI shapefiles showing 728 past positions of 94 glacier fronts from all continents, except Antarctica, covering the period between the Little Ice Age maxima and the present. On average, the time series span the past 190 years. From 2 to 46 past positions per glacier are depicted (on average: 7.8).

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the adsorption process of the bicomponent mixture of Tartrazine (Y5) and Brilliant Blue FCF (B1) dyes in a dynamic regime (fixed-bed column), using rice husks (RH) as adsorbent material. A 3-level response surface design of experiments was employed to evaluate the adsorption process of the dyes in the mixture at the following initial concentrations: 0.0216, 0.0739, 0.1261, 0.1477 (mmol L−1). The response surface analysis of the experimental design made it possible to identify a competitive adsorption of both dyes. RH had higher affinity for B1, although the adsorption capacity changed depending on the concentration of each dye in the mixture. The highest RH adsorption capacity was 3.4 mg g−1 for B1 and 1.45 mg g−1 for Y5, respectively, under a monocomponent condition. It was considered that the interactions in the mechanism proposed for the adsorption process occurred because of the formation of hydrogen bonds between the sulfonate groups of the dyes and the –OH groups present on the surface of the adsorbent. B1 had a higher affinity towards RH because it had one more sulfonate group than Y5. The multiple-response optimization results make it possible to recommend the use of RH beds with low concentrations of B1 and Y5 in the same feed.

Las series surgen de mediciones en seis estaciones de monitoreo ubicadas en Santiago de Chile, de las cuales se seleccionaron dos, para un periodo de 3.25 anos. Aplicando la segunda ley de la termodinamica, que es un principio general que impone restricciones a la direccion de la transferencia de calor, y a la eficiencia posible de la denominada maquina termica (natural y artificial), se estudia la actividad antropogenica y su conexion con la dinamica meteorologica atmosferica. Las entropias de correlacion permiten explicar esta conectividad, asi como, el efecto de la proximidad geografica en el proceso de difusion de los contaminantes. EnglishTime series of pollutants such as fine and coarse particulate matter and carbon monoxide are analyzed from a chaos theory perspective, along with the meteorological variables, relative humidity, wind speed and temperature. The series arise from measurements in six monitoring stations located in Santiago, Chile, of which two were selected, for a period of 3.25 years. Applying the second law of thermodynamics, which is a general principle that imposes restrictions on the direction of heat transfer, and the possible efficiency of the so-called thermal machine (natural and artificial), anthropogenic activity is studied and its connection with the atmospheric meteorological dynamics. The correlation entropies allow explaining this connectivity as well as the effect of geographical proximity in the diffusion process of the pollutants.

The Galapagos Islands have been declared a World Heritage site due to their unique biodiversity, which makes them a living museum and a natural laboratory for humankind. However, to fulfill the energy needs of its habitants and foreign visitors, the islands have depended on fossil fuel energies that have produced levels of lead and chemical agents that are affecting the islands’ air quality, flora, and fauna. Therefore, zero-carbon initiatives have been created to protect the islands, wherein solar and wind power plants have been studied as reliable alternatives. In this way, Geographical Information Systems based on Multicriteria Decision Methods constitute a methodology that minimizes the destruction and disturbance of nature in order to assess the best location for the implementation of these alternative energy sources. Therefore, by exploring the geographical information along with the Analytical Hierarchical Processes and the Ordered Weighted Average methods, it was possible to identify the potential for solar power plants of 10 MW on each island; likewise, for wind power plants, it was found that the islands possess implementation potential that has been analyzed in the field, showing that the best location is on Baltra Island, but is not limited to it.

Abstract The dynamics of isolated-photon plus two-jet production in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV are studied with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1. Cross sections are measured as functions of a variety of observables, including angular correlations and invariant masses of the objects in the final state, γ + jet + jet. Measurements are also performed in phase-space regions enriched in each of the two underlying physical mechanisms, namely direct and fragmentation processes. The measurements cover the range of photon (jet) transverse momenta from 150 GeV (100 GeV) to 2 TeV. The tree-level plus parton-shower predictions from Sherpa and Pythia as well as the next-to-leading-order QCD predictions from Sherpa are compared with the measurements. The next-to-leading-order QCD predictions describe the data adequately in shape and normalisation except for regions of phase space such as those with high values of the invariant mass or rapidity separation of the two jets, where the predictions overestimate the data.

Chamorro;The growing demand for electric power and the need for an energy transition that contributes to the reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions have driven the development of various energy generation, storage, and offset technologies. These technologies are known as distributed energy resources. Their integration into distribution power systems not only contributes to improving operating aspects, but also allows supplying electricity to areas that do not have access to large-scale power systems. Therefore, the integration and management of these resources has become a topic of interest, and several studies seek to optimize their impact on technical, economic, and environmental aspects. However, this optimization poses specific challenges related to the type and number of variables related to the operation of a distribution power system. This review article aims to describe the main challenges posed by three-phase AC three-phase distribution power systems under scenarios involving the integration of distributed energy resources. In addition, it presents some approaches proposed by different authors to improve the technical, economic, and environmental aspects of power grids. It can be stated that the strategies presented in the literature fail to consider scenarios that simultaneously integrate different types of technologies and optimize them while following a multi-objective approach and considering three-phase systems in a context of variable generation and demand. Therefore, future work in this field should address these aspects in a holistic manner, taking into account the computation efforts and processing times required by intelligent algorithms.

The sustainable management of agricultural residues is a pivotal element in ensuring the sustainable development of agriculture. This is based on strategies that include the reutilization of residues as a substrate for the cultivation of economically significant mushroom species. The primary aim of this investigation is to assess the viability of utilizing two of the most prevalent agricultural residues in Ecuador as a substrate for the cultivation of hybrids within the Pleurotus genus. This assessment includes an evaluation of the nutritional and productivity parameters exhibited by the resulting mushrooms, employing multivariate statistical methodologies. The hybrid strains were developed by crossing compatible neohaplonts obtained through chemical dedikaryotization. A total of five neohaplonts of Pleurotus ostreatus as parental strain P1 and five monokaryons of Pleurotus djamor as parental strain P2 were randomly crossed in all possible combinations. Two parental hybrid strains, H1 and H2, were produced. These hybrids were cultivated using agricultural waste substrates, specifically, green banana leaves (GBL) and sugarcane bagasse (SB). Two distinct treatments or mixtures were tested: M1 (composed of 80% SB and 20% GBL) and M2 (composed of 20% SB and 80% GBL). It was found that the M1 blend promotes mushroom growth, yielding superior properties attributable to the higher proportion of nutritional content derived from sugarcane bagasse.

The paper presents an experimental study on the formation process of burden surface texture on the blast furnace throat and its influence on the radial distribution of gas flow. The study was performed with the application of blast furnaces equipped with a bell-type charging device using radio-isotope means for the control of burden surface texture (profile) and burden surface level, i.e., gamma locators for burden surface texture. The study was carried out under the conditions of an operating blast furnace in an iron and steel plant using a unique GEOTAPS system for automated control of geometric and temperature parameters of burden material surface on the blast furnace throat. The influence of the surface texture on the gas flow distribution was also investigated. The possibility of a self-stabilization effect for burden surface texture and gas flow in an operating blast furnace under suitable conditions was experimentally proven. As a result of the experimental study performed, four ways of energy-saving technology implementation were determined for the control of blast furnace melting based on the data on the burden surface texture and previously unknown regularities of surface layer formation of burden material on the throat of an operating blast furnace with a bell-type charging device. The main idea of the paper is the development of automated control for the radial distribution of burden material and gas flow using actual or predicted surface texture parameters as important intermediate factors that both describe the process and have a significant simultaneous influence on it.

Future researchers should explore food eco-label dynamics and phenomena in areas related to consumer behaviour, information, consumer knowledge, environmental concerns, trust, packaging and willingness-to-pay as antecedent factors.Research limitations/implicationsThis review contributes to the business and management literature by quantifying existing research and consolidating its evolution. The articles were sourced from the established Web of Science (WoS) database. Other databases should be included in future reviews. We also focus on research published in business and management. Further studies could include research beyond such specialised domains.Practical implicationsConsumers need more information on the objectives and meaning of food eco-labels. The dissemination of knowledge on eco-labels, as well as effective communication and information on eco-labels, are relevant to future research issues.Social implicationsThe knowledge derived from this research holds significant potential in shaping policies and devising tools aimed at reducing the carbon footprint linked to food production and consumption. These generations are also more inclined toward embracing and implementing sustainable practices.Originality/valueThere are no comprehensive, integrated reviews exploring the methods, variables and constructs used in studies on food eco-labels based on all articles published in WoS journals in the business and management domains. This is the first comprehensive literature review using a hybrid approach (bibliometric review with TCCM framework) in the field of food eco-label research.

Most of the world’s mountain glaciers have been retreating for more than a century in response to climate change. Glacier retreat is evident on all continents, and the rate of retreat has accelerated during recent decades. Accurate, spatially explicit information on the position of glacier margins over time is useful for analyzing patterns of glacier retreat and measuring reductions in glacier surface area. This information is also essential for evaluating how mountain ecosystems are evolving due to climate warming and the attendant glacier retreat. Here, we present a non-comprehensive spatially explicit dataset showing multiple positions of glacier fronts since the Little Ice Age (LIA) maxima, including many data from the pre-satellite era. The dataset is based on multiple historical archival records including topographical maps; repeated photographs, paintings, and aerial or satellite images with a supplement of geochronology; and own field data. We provide ESRI shapefiles showing 728 past positions of 94 glacier fronts from all continents, except Antarctica, covering the period between the Little Ice Age maxima and the present. On average, the time series span the past 190 years. From 2 to 46 past positions per glacier are depicted (on average: 7.8).

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the adsorption process of the bicomponent mixture of Tartrazine (Y5) and Brilliant Blue FCF (B1) dyes in a dynamic regime (fixed-bed column), using rice husks (RH) as adsorbent material. A 3-level response surface design of experiments was employed to evaluate the adsorption process of the dyes in the mixture at the following initial concentrations: 0.0216, 0.0739, 0.1261, 0.1477 (mmol L−1). The response surface analysis of the experimental design made it possible to identify a competitive adsorption of both dyes. RH had higher affinity for B1, although the adsorption capacity changed depending on the concentration of each dye in the mixture. The highest RH adsorption capacity was 3.4 mg g−1 for B1 and 1.45 mg g−1 for Y5, respectively, under a monocomponent condition. It was considered that the interactions in the mechanism proposed for the adsorption process occurred because of the formation of hydrogen bonds between the sulfonate groups of the dyes and the –OH groups present on the surface of the adsorbent. B1 had a higher affinity towards RH because it had one more sulfonate group than Y5. The multiple-response optimization results make it possible to recommend the use of RH beds with low concentrations of B1 and Y5 in the same feed.

Aplicando la segunda ley de la termodinamica, que es un principio general que impone restricciones a la direccion de la transferencia de calor, y a la eficiencia posible de la denominada maquina termica (natural y artificial), se estudia la actividad antropogenica y su conexion con la dinamica meteorologica atmosferica. Las entropias de correlacion permiten explicar esta conectividad, asi como, el efecto de la proximidad geografica en el proceso de difusion de los contaminantes. EnglishTime series of pollutants such as fine and coarse particulate matter and carbon monoxide are analyzed from a chaos theory perspective, along with the meteorological variables, relative humidity, wind speed and temperature. The series arise from measurements in six monitoring stations located in Santiago, Chile, of which two were selected, for a period of 3.25 years. Applying the second law of thermodynamics, which is a general principle that imposes restrictions on the direction of heat transfer, and the possible efficiency of the so-called thermal machine (natural and artificial), anthropogenic activity is studied and its connection with the atmospheric meteorological dynamics. The correlation entropies allow explaining this connectivity as well as the effect of geographical proximity in the diffusion process of the pollutants.

The Galapagos Islands have been declared a World Heritage site due to their unique biodiversity, which makes them a living museum and a natural laboratory for humankind. However, to fulfill the energy needs of its habitants and foreign visitors, the islands have depended on fossil fuel energies that have produced levels of lead and chemical agents that are affecting the islands’ air quality, flora, and fauna. Therefore, zero-carbon initiatives have been created to protect the islands, wherein solar and wind power plants have been studied as reliable alternatives. In this way, Geographical Information Systems based on Multicriteria Decision Methods constitute a methodology that minimizes the destruction and disturbance of nature in order to assess the best location for the implementation of these alternative energy sources. Therefore, by exploring the geographical information along with the Analytical Hierarchical Processes and the Ordered Weighted Average methods, it was possible to identify the potential for solar power plants of 10 MW on each island; likewise, for wind power plants, it was found that the islands possess implementation potential that has been analyzed in the field, showing that the best location is on Baltra Island, but is not limited to it.

Abstract The dynamics of isolated-photon plus two-jet production in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV are studied with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1. Cross sections are measured as functions of a variety of observables, including angular correlations and invariant masses of the objects in the final state, γ + jet + jet. Measurements are also performed in phase-space regions enriched in each of the two underlying physical mechanisms, namely direct and fragmentation processes. The measurements cover the range of photon (jet) transverse momenta from 150 GeV (100 GeV) to 2 TeV. The tree-level plus parton-shower predictions from Sherpa and Pythia as well as the next-to-leading-order QCD predictions from Sherpa are compared with the measurements. The next-to-leading-order QCD predictions describe the data adequately in shape and normalisation except for regions of phase space such as those with high values of the invariant mass or rapidity separation of the two jets, where the predictions overestimate the data.

Chamorro;The growing demand for electric power and the need for an energy transition that contributes to the reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions have driven the development of various energy generation, storage, and offset technologies. These technologies are known as distributed energy resources. Their integration into distribution power systems not only contributes to improving operating aspects, but also allows supplying electricity to areas that do not have access to large-scale power systems. Therefore, the integration and management of these resources has become a topic of interest, and several studies seek to optimize their impact on technical, economic, and environmental aspects. However, this optimization poses specific challenges related to the type and number of variables related to the operation of a distribution power system. This review article aims to describe the main challenges posed by three-phase AC three-phase distribution power systems under scenarios involving the integration of distributed energy resources. In addition, it presents some approaches proposed by different authors to improve the technical, economic, and environmental aspects of power grids. It can be stated that the strategies presented in the literature fail to consider scenarios that simultaneously integrate different types of technologies and optimize them while following a multi-objective approach and considering three-phase systems in a context of variable generation and demand. Therefore, future work in this field should address these aspects in a holistic manner, taking into account the computation efforts and processing times required by intelligent algorithms.

The sustainable management of agricultural residues is a pivotal element in ensuring the sustainable development of agriculture. This is based on strategies that include the reutilization of residues as a substrate for the cultivation of economically significant mushroom species. The primary aim of this investigation is to assess the viability of utilizing two of the most prevalent agricultural residues in Ecuador as a substrate for the cultivation of hybrids within the Pleurotus genus. This assessment includes an evaluation of the nutritional and productivity parameters exhibited by the resulting mushrooms, employing multivariate statistical methodologies. The hybrid strains were developed by crossing compatible neohaplonts obtained through chemical dedikaryotization. A total of five neohaplonts of Pleurotus ostreatus as parental strain P1 and five monokaryons of Pleurotus djamor as parental strain P2 were randomly crossed in all possible combinations. Two parental hybrid strains, H1 and H2, were produced. These hybrids were cultivated using agricultural waste substrates, specifically, green banana leaves (GBL) and sugarcane bagasse (SB). Two distinct treatments or mixtures were tested: M1 (composed of 80% SB and 20% GBL) and M2 (composed of 20% SB and 80% GBL). It was found that the M1 blend promotes mushroom growth, yielding superior properties attributable to the higher proportion of nutritional content derived from sugarcane bagasse.
