description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Journal 2015Publisher:Springer Science and Business Media LLC Funded by:AKA | Energy Efficient Resource..., AKA | Software Defined Hyper Ce...AKA| Energy Efficient Resource Allocation for Heterogeneous Multi-RAT Networks ,AKA| Software Defined Hyper Cellular Architecture for Green and Smart Service Provisioning in 5G Networks / Consortium: Hyper5GAuthors: Zheng Chang; Qianqian Zhang; Tapani Ristaniemi; Xijuan Guo;Most of the existed works on the radio resource allocation (RRA) problem commonly assume the channel-state information (CSI) can be perfectly obtained by the transmission source. However, such assumption is not practical in the realistic wireless systems. In this work, we consider the practical implementation issues of resource allocation in orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) two-way relay networks: the inaccuracy of channel-state information (CSI) available to the source. Instead, only the estimated channel status is known by the source. In this context, a joint optimization of subcarrier pairing and allocation, relay selection, and transmit power allocation is formulated in OFDMA two-way amplify-and-forward relay networks. Moreover, the objective of this work is to minimize the energy consumption of the overall system. Further, to ensure the quality of service (QoS) or data rate requirement, the energy consumption must be minimized without compromising the QoS. Therefore, by applying convex optimization techniques, energy-efficient algorithms are developed with the objective to minimize the total transmit power with guaranteeing the required data rates. Through simulation studies, energy consumption performance of the systems under the proposed schemes is investigated. It can be observed that our proposed scheme can improve the energy consumption performance of the considered system.

Approximately 40% of the overall energy consumption of society is consumed by buildings. Most building energy usage is due to poor envelope performance. In regions with cold winters, the corners of structures typically have the lowest interior surface temperature. In corners, condensation, frost, and mold are common. This has a substantial effect on building energy usage and residents’ comfort. In this study, the heat loss of corner envelopes is evaluated, and a suitable insulation construction of wall corners is constructed to increase the surface temperature of the envelope interior. Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation has been used to examine the heat transmission in a corner of an ultra-low energy building in this study. By comparing the indoor surface temperature to the soil temperature beneath the building, the insulation construction of wall corners has been tuned. The study results indicate that the planned insulation construction of wall corners can enhance the internal surface temperature in the corner and the soil temperature under the structure by approximately 8.5 °C, thereby decreasing the indoor–outdoor temperature differential and the heat transfer at ground level. In extremely cold places, the insulation horizontal extension belt installation can help prevent the earth beneath the building from freezing throughout the winter.

The contaminant-insensitive sublimator (CIS) is a novel water sublimator in development, which uses two porous substrates to separate the sublimation point from the pressure-control point and provide long-life effective cooling for spacecraft. Many essential studies need to be carried out in the field. To overcome the reliability issues such as ice breakthrough caused by large temperature or pressure differences, the CIS development unit model, the mathematical models of heat and mass transfer and the evaluation coefficient have been established. Numerical investigations have been implemented aiming at the impacts of physical properties of porous substrate, physical properties of working fluid, orifice layouts and orifice-structure parameters on the characteristics of flow field and temperature field. The numerical investigation shows some valuable conclusion, such as the temperature uniformity coefficient at the bottom surface of the large pore substrate is 0.997669 and the pressure uniformity coefficient at the same surface is 0.85361267. These numerical results can provide structure and data reference for the CIS design of lunar probe or spacesuit.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Journal 2017Publisher:Elsevier BV Yujian Fang; Ransford Opoku Darko; Jinfeng Zhang; Daniel Adu; Lv Suoming;Abstract The Southern African development community is having a major challenge in connection with desires for energy in the region. There is the need to increase energy security and admittance to modern energy services immediately, particularly in the rural areas as well as addressing the challenges posed by the current energy systems on human health and the environmental. The rapid growth of renewable energy capacity in the region contains all the potentials that can answer to quite a lot of problems for instance: rapidly increasing electricity saturation, including remote areas detached from the grid infrastructure. Old resources need to be replaced as well as producing new once to adequately generate to meet the growing demand. Renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies in addition to services are an essential part of the new energy dynamic in the region. To meet these demands, the region needs to, rapidly develop and connect existing renewable energy resources and embrace energy efficiency, as a matter of priority. The existing potential sites in the region are mentioned and Small-scale hydropower is one of the most cost-effective energy technologies to be considered for electrification in the countries since it has low environmental impacts and can have a significant benefit if implemented in rural areas for electricity production. There is therefore the need for all development community, policy makers and regulators, local and global investors, developers and project promoters to support by providing funds, making good policies to protect the energy sector in other to solve the problem.

Mass transport phenomenon was first recognized by Stokes in 1847 using a Lagrangian description. Later, a basic theory for the mass transport in water waves in viscous fluid and of finite depth was derived by Longuet-Higgins in 1953. Theoretical solutions of mass transport in progressive waves of permanent type are subjected to the definitions of wave celerity in deriving the various finite amplitude wave theories. As it has been generally acknowledged that the Stokes wave theory can not yield a correct prediction of mass transport in the shallow depths, some new theories have been developed. Recently the authors(1974 § 1977) have derived a new finite amplitude wave theory in shallow water for quasi- Stokes and cnoidal waves by the so-called reductive perturbation method, in which the mass transport is formulated both in Lagrangian and Eulerian descriptions. On the experimental verification, Russell and 0sorio(1957) investigated and compared Longuet-Higgins' solution with experimental data of Lagrangian mass transport velocity obtained in a normal closed wave tank of finite length. Since then, many investigations, and nearly all of them, have employed the finite length of wave tank in carrying out their experiments. However, no experiment has yet been attempted at verifying the Stokes drift in progressive waves of permanent type in a wave tank of infinite length. It is not realistic nor economical in constructing such an infinitely long flume to investigate experimentally the mass transport velocity in progressive waves. Instead of using such an ideal wave tank, a new one incorporated with natural water re-circulation was equipped to carry out experiments by the authors(1978). It was confirmed from these experiments that mass transport in progressive waves of permanent type exists in the Same direction of wave propagation throughout the depth, and agrees with both the Stokes drift and the authors' new formulations, within the test range of experiments.

Distributed energy resources have been increasingly integrated into electrical grids. Consequently, electricity markets are expected to undergo changes and become more complex. However, while there are many scientific publications on the topic, a broader discussion is still necessary. Therefore, a systematic literature review on electricity markets in the context of distributed energy resources integration was conducted in this paper to present in-depth discussions on the topic, along with shedding light on current perspectives, the most relevant sources, authors, papers, countries, metrics, and indexes. The software R and its open-source tool Bibliometrix were used to perform the systematic literature review based on the widely recognized databases Web of Science and Scopus, which led to a total of 1685 articles after removing duplicates. The results demonstrate that demand response, renewable energy, uncertainty, optimization, and smart grid are the most-used keywords. By assessing highly impactful articles on the theme, emphasis on energy storage systems becomes clear compared to distributed generation and electric vehicles. However, electric vehicles draw attention in terms of citations. Furthermore, multi-level stochastic programming is the most-applied methodology among highly impactful articles. Due to the relevance of the demand response keyword, this paper also conducts a specific review on the topic aligned with electricity markets and distributed energy resources (296 articles). The results demonstrate that virtually all high-impact publications on the topic address day-ahead or real-time pricing. Based on the literature found, this paper presents a discussion on the main challenges and future perspectives related to the field. The complexity of electrical power systems and electricity markets is increasing substantially according to what this study found. Distributed generation development is already advanced, while energy storage systems and electric vehicles are limited in many countries. Peer-to-peer electricity trading and virtual power plant are newer concepts that are currently incipient, and DR programs showcase an intermediate stage of evolution. A particular lack of research on social issues is verified, and also a lack of all-encompassing studies that address multiple interconnected topics, which should be better addressed in the future. The in-depth assessment carried out in this paper is expected to be of high value to researchers and policy-makers and facilitate future research on the topic.

description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Journal 2015Publisher:Springer Science and Business Media LLC Funded by:AKA | Energy Efficient Resource..., AKA | Software Defined Hyper Ce...AKA| Energy Efficient Resource Allocation for Heterogeneous Multi-RAT Networks ,AKA| Software Defined Hyper Cellular Architecture for Green and Smart Service Provisioning in 5G Networks / Consortium: Hyper5GAuthors: Zheng Chang; Qianqian Zhang; Tapani Ristaniemi; Xijuan Guo;Most of the existed works on the radio resource allocation (RRA) problem commonly assume the channel-state information (CSI) can be perfectly obtained by the transmission source.

Renewable energy provides an effective solution to the problem existing between energy and environmental protection. Tidal energy has great potential as a form of renewable energy. Tidal current generation (TCG) technology is the earliest renewable energy power generation technology. The advancement of science and technology has led to TCG rapidly developing since its emergence in the last century. This paper investigates the development of TCG in recent years based on the key components of TCG systems, both in terms of tidal energy harvesting research and power generation unit research. A summary of tidal energy harvesting is presented, investigating the main tidal energy harvesting units currently available. In addition, research on generators and generator control is summarized. Lastly, a comparison between horizontal and vertical axis turbines is carried out, and predictions are made about the future trends in TCG development. The purpose of this review is to summarize the research status and research methods of key components in tidal energy power generation technology and to provide insight into the research of tidal energy-related technologies.
