description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Doctoral thesis 2005 GermanyPublisher:Philipps-Universität Marburg Authors: Abdel-Nabi, Riad;Effect of ethanol on amino acids and related compounds in rat plasma, heart, aorta, bronchus, and pancreas. The composition of 36 amino acids and related compounds is presented for plasma, heart, aorta, bronchus and pancreas. The distribution pattern of these biochemicals is similar but not identical among the tissues. The effect of an acute dose of ethanol (2g/kg,IP) on these amino acids and related compounds was then studied. In the plasma, alanine, arginine, aspartic acid, beta-alanine, glycine, phenylalanine, and serine are decreased. In the aorta, ammonia and taurine are decreased. In the heart, aspartic acid and leucine are decreased, and carnosine, GABA, glutamic acid, and ornithine are increased. In the pancreas, asparagine and taurine are decreased, and citrulline, cysteine, histidine and isoleucine are increased. In the bronchi, GABA, ethanolamine, histidine, taurine, and isoleucine are decreased. A number of correlations of some compounds in plasma or tissues were found but differed often between control and ethanol-treated animals. Ethanol-induced tissue changes generally do not correlate with plasma changes and are mostly specific for a given tissue.

In addition, long capital lock-up periods in the energy sector mean that new, innovative technologies only enter the market very slowly. As a consequence of this, market requirements can only be met after a lenghty delay. In order to reduce the uncertainties associated with these time lags, the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) commissioned the study "Energy Technologies 2050 - Priorities for Research and Development" in summer 2008. The study aims to identify new accents in already existing R&D topics and new R&D topics from the perspective of public funding. The study should make a substantial contribution to directing research policy and setting priorities for non-nuclear energy research in the coming years. It prepares the ground for the new energy research programme and was carried out by a consortium of scientific research institutes and industrial companies. The topics of energy efficiency in industry, commerce, trade, services and households, renewable energy sources, energy storage, fossil-based energy transformation, electrical grids, hydrogen, stationary fuel cells and the methanol economy are being given priority in the project. New propulsion systems in the transport sector are excluded, but their repercussions for the supply system are being integrated, for example, the infrastructure for electrical mobility or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Nuclear fusion and fission are not part of the research project.

In this doctoral thesis a detailed report about and a critical evaluation of the geothermal project "SuperC" and especially the well "RWTH-1" showed the wide range of a deep geothermal project run by a public administration. This mainly contained the technical, geological, economical and juristic tasks during the planning and realization stage. The use of a geothermal resource concerning the demand of resource protection in the German mining law was discussed. The necessity of a geological quality management before, during and after the drilling job was pointed out. First technical and geological project results were presented. The "SuperC"-project of RWTH Aachen University offers the unique possibility of demonstrating the use of renewable energies to a wide audience. The practical realization can be shown step by step. Due to its purposes as central service-center and as a kind of portal for the university the "SuperC" will be a location of communication where the use of geothermal energy will be transferred to a wide public for quite a long time. Furthermore there is a great chance to show the research activities of engineers and geoscientists in such an outstanding project and by this to support the development of geothermal energy in Germany and Europe.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Doctoral thesis 2023Embargo end date: 26 Jun 2023 GermanyPublisher:RWTH Aachen University Authors: Gebauer, Matthias; This dissertation deals with the optimal implementation of the energy transition in Germany. The evaluation of the specified expansion path for renewable energies is intended to provide information as to whether the efforts of the federal government are sufficient to achieve the goals of the Paris climate agreement. The evaluation tools designed for this dissertation are able to evaluate the specified additional amounts of the EEG 2021, to design storage concepts with which the producible amounts of electricity can be used in the best possible way and to compare the available energy with the necessary measures to achieve the Paris climate agreement. The result of this evaluation has shown that with the current expansion obligation, gross electricity consumption can be completely covered by renewable energies by 2050, but the excess electricity quantities that are not consumed in the electricity sector are not sufficient to cover 60 percent of the final energy requirement from renewable electricity. One of the government's targets is to reduce final energy consumption by 50 percent by 2050 compared to 2008 levels. Assuming that this project can be implemented, around 1270 terawatt hours (TWh) of energy will be required to supply all sectors of Germany. This contrasts with a maximum power generation of 620 TWh from regenerative generators. Even if this energy could be consumed without losses, only about 48 percent of the final energy consumption could be covered by renewable energies. If the expected efficiency losses are taken into account, around 950 TWh are required to be able to cover the final energy consumption as planned. In order for this energy to be generated by 2050, an improved expansion path is needed, which requires, among other things, the expansion of 125 gigawatts (GW) of onshore wind capacity, 100 GW of offshore wind capacity and 255 GW of PV system capacity. This corresponds to an increase of around 43 GW onshore, 47 GW offshore and 73 GW PV capacity, so a significant adjustment of the EEG 2021 is required that should be implemented immediately. In order for the generation plants to be set up to be used to the best possible extent, battery storage and power-to-gas technologies must also be installed in order to store energy that is not directly consumed and transfer it to other sectors. In order for the entire amount of electricity to be able to be purchased with the current expansion path, a total of around 150 GW of power-to-gas plants must be installed. A clear adjustment of the current efforts regarding the implementation of the energy transition on the part of business and politics is required. description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Doctoral thesis 2005 GermanyPublisher:Philipps-Universität Marburg Authors: Abdel-Nabi, Riad;Effect of ethanol on amino acids and related compounds in rat plasma, heart, aorta, bronchus, and pancreas.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Doctoral thesis 2002 ItalyAuthors: Graeber, Bernhard;Die meisten Staaten im südlichen Afrika haben versucht, ein weitgehend autarkes Elektrizitätssystem aufzubauen.
