At each site three trees were chosen for coring, with two or three cores taken per tree. Cores were sanded and ring widths measured based on high-resolution images of the sanded cores. Cores were cross-dated and summary statistics used to compare cross-dating accuracy. The dataset contains the resulting dated ring width series. This dataset includes tree ring width data, derived from tree cores, that were sampled from sites across the Rhön Biosphere Reserve (Germany). At each chosen site three trees were cored, with two or three cores taken per cored tree. Data was collected in August 2021.

We provide a dataset from a household survey in Mpanda region in Western Tanzania (N = 137) that was conducted in 2011. Household heads (or replacements) were interviewed. The topics addressed covered a broad range of socio-economic data and including, among others, household information (number of household members, age, sex, religion etc.), agricultural production (e.g. crops produced and livestock owned) including number and size of plots, income generation, energy access and owned assets.

Williams; Frank Sehnke;As grid price rises and the feed-in tariff declines, the economics of local storage become increasingly lucrative to the system owner. The attractiveness of a local storage investment is compounded in the presence of a PV grid injection cap. The larger the PV system size is relative to this cap level, the greater the opportunity exists to charge the local storage with PV production that would otherwise be dissipated without credit. This study utilizes two household demand profiles that represent the extremes of the potential for local PV self-consumption and, consequently, the range of economic potential that exists for local storage to be coupled with residential PV systems. The final goal is to raise the scientific excellence, capacities and international reputation of LEI and VMU in these respective fields. This will be achieved by the planned project activities, such as training, summer schools, conference and outreach events, dedicated for early-stage and advanced researchers. One of the key activities and milestones is the adoption of a joint research strategy between project partners, which is based on three research pillars: (plasma-enhanced) gasification processes, (plasma-assisted) methanation and feedstocks and utilization pathways. The strategy fully reflects the aims and goals of Lithuania and European Union, which are defined in Lithuania’s National Energy Independence Strategy, a national law on the Usage of Alternative Fuels and European Green Deal, including circular economy and climate change initiatives and ambitions. A short outlook regarding the current situation and perspectives in waste-to-energy and power-to-X in Lithuania is also described. Finally, a short description on how the adopted research strategy may contribute to the achievement of the goals defined in national and EU initiatives is also provided. Fischer;This study reveals which temperature range is favoured or avoided by 156 forest plant species and how the distribution of potential suitable habitats of species in beech forests may change in the future. We performed 140 phytosociological relevés along a temperature gradient (4.1 to 9.8 °C) in Bavaria, southern Germany, on south exposed slopes. One half of the plots were located on acidic substrate, the other half on base-rich substrate. Generalized linear models (GLM) were used to analyse species occurrence along the temperature gradient and to model habitats for species in beech forests under a present (1971-2000) and a future climate (2071-2100) scenario assuming a temperature increase of 1.8 °C. Herb species of beech forests are more adapted to lower temperatures and tree species more to higher temperatures. Current habitats will clearly change under increasing temperatures. We found large habitat losses for Luzula sylvatica (Huds.) Gaudin, Maianthemum bifolium (L.) F. W. Schmidt, Picea abies (L.) H. Karst., Prenanthes purpurea L. and large habitat gains for Carpinus betulus L., Impatiens parviflora DC., Prunus avium (L.) L. and Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl. on both substrates. Forestry will be affected positively as well as negatively with a change in tree cultivation. Losses in biodiversity might be strong for mountainous forests and must also be considered in future conservation plans.

Soil from the excavation can be compressed on-site to build a fa��ade. Due to its hygroscopic and thermal properties, rammed earth fa��ades stabilise indoor comfort, which potentially supports the minimisation of use of mechanical systems. In order to reduce the energy demand for the entire life cycle of buildings, the embodied energy must be taken into account. Databases, such as the German ��kobaudat, provide data for a life cycle assessment (LCA). For rammed earth, aggregated data at product stages A1-A3 are provided, but transport, which is included in stages A2 and A4, and construction processes at stage A5 are barely documented. Thus, the energy demand for transport, production, and construction of two rammed earth fa��ades was measured. The results are documented in this paper, which provides a more thorough understanding of the entire building process and helps to expand the database. One can conclude that transportation has the largest impact on the embodied energy of rammed earth fa��ades, so it���s essential to use local material. Furthermore, the results illustrate the implication of transport on a life cycle assessment, as well as for other constructions. This puts hydroelectricity production in conflict with efforts to protect threatened species and re-connect fragmented ecosystems. Assessing the impact of hydropower on fishes will support informed decision-making during planning, commissioning, and operation of hydropower facilities. Few methods estimate mortalities of single species passing through hydropower turbines, but no commonly agreed tool assesses hazards of hydropower plants for fish populations. The European Fish Hazard Index bridges this gap. This assessment tool for screening ecological risk considers constellation specific effects of plant design and operation, the sensitivity and mortality of fish species and overarching conservation and environmental development targets for the river. Further, it facilitates impact mitigation of new and existing hydropower plants of various types across Europe. The tool does not yet support VBAs. In order to use it and produce reliable results, all input fields have to be reset manually before making a new assessment. The input window contains examplary dummy data.

At each site three trees were chosen for coring, with two or three cores taken per tree. Cores were sanded and ring widths measured based on high-resolution images of the sanded cores. Cores were cross-dated and summary statistics used to compare cross-dating accuracy. The dataset contains the resulting dated ring width series. This dataset includes tree ring width data, derived from tree cores, that were sampled from sites across the Rhön Biosphere Reserve (Germany). At each chosen site three trees were cored, with two or three cores taken per cored tree. Data was collected in August 2021.

We provide a dataset from a household survey in Mpanda region in Western Tanzania (N = 137) that was conducted in 2011. Household heads (or replacements) were interviewed. The topics addressed covered a broad range of socio-economic data and including, among others, household information (number of household members, age, sex, religion etc.), agricultural production (e.g. crops produced and livestock owned) including number and size of plots, income generation, energy access and owned assets.

The attractiveness of a local storage investment is compounded in the presence of a PV grid injection cap. The larger the PV system size is relative to this cap level, the greater the opportunity exists to charge the local storage with PV production that would otherwise be dissipated without credit. This study utilizes two household demand profiles that represent the extremes of the potential for local PV self-consumption and, consequently, the range of economic potential that exists for local storage to be coupled with residential PV systems. The final goal is to raise the scientific excellence, capacities and international reputation of LEI and VMU in these respective fields. This will be achieved by the planned project activities, such as training, summer schools, conference and outreach events, dedicated for early-stage and advanced researchers. One of the key activities and milestones is the adoption of a joint research strategy between project partners, which is based on three research pillars: (plasma-enhanced) gasification processes, (plasma-assisted) methanation and feedstocks and utilization pathways. The strategy fully reflects the aims and goals of Lithuania and European Union, which are defined in Lithuania’s National Energy Independence Strategy, a national law on the Usage of Alternative Fuels and European Green Deal, including circular economy and climate change initiatives and ambitions. A short outlook regarding the current situation and perspectives in waste-to-energy and power-to-X in Lithuania is also described. Finally, a short description on how the adopted research strategy may contribute to the achievement of the goals defined in national and EU initiatives is also provided. Fischer;This study reveals which temperature range is favoured or avoided by 156 forest plant species and how the distribution of potential suitable habitats of species in beech forests may change in the future. We performed 140 phytosociological relevés along a temperature gradient (4.1 to 9.8 °C) in Bavaria, southern Germany, on south exposed slopes. One half of the plots were located on acidic substrate, the other half on base-rich substrate. Generalized linear models (GLM) were used to analyse species occurrence along the temperature gradient and to model habitats for species in beech forests under a present (1971-2000) and a future climate (2071-2100) scenario assuming a temperature increase of 1.8 °C. Herb species of beech forests are more adapted to lower temperatures and tree species more to higher temperatures. Current habitats will clearly change under increasing temperatures. We found large habitat losses for Luzula sylvatica (Huds.) Gaudin, Maianthemum bifolium (L.) F. W. Schmidt, Picea abies (L.) H. Karst., Prenanthes purpurea L. and large habitat gains for Carpinus betulus L., Impatiens parviflora DC., Prunus avium (L.) L. and Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl. on both substrates. Forestry will be affected positively as well as negatively with a change in tree cultivation. Losses in biodiversity might be strong for mountainous forests and must also be considered in future conservation plans.

Soil from the excavation can be compressed on-site to build a fa��ade. Due to its hygroscopic and thermal properties, rammed earth fa��ades stabilise indoor comfort, which potentially supports the minimisation of use of mechanical systems. In order to reduce the energy demand for the entire life cycle of buildings, the embodied energy must be taken into account. Databases, such as the German ��kobaudat, provide data for a life cycle assessment (LCA). For rammed earth, aggregated data at product stages A1-A3 are provided, but transport, which is included in stages A2 and A4, and construction processes at stage A5 are barely documented. Thus, the energy demand for transport, production, and construction of two rammed earth fa��ades was measured. The results are documented in this paper, which provides a more thorough understanding of the entire building process and helps to expand the database. One can conclude that transportation has the largest impact on the embodied energy of rammed earth fa��ades, so it���s essential to use local material. Furthermore, the results illustrate the implication of transport on a life cycle assessment, as well as for other constructions. This puts hydroelectricity production in conflict with efforts to protect threatened species and re-connect fragmented ecosystems. Assessing the impact of hydropower on fishes will support informed decision-making during planning, commissioning, and operation of hydropower facilities. Few methods estimate mortalities of single species passing through hydropower turbines, but no commonly agreed tool assesses hazards of hydropower plants for fish populations. The European Fish Hazard Index bridges this gap. This assessment tool for screening ecological risk considers constellation specific effects of plant design and operation, the sensitivity and mortality of fish species and overarching conservation and environmental development targets for the river. Further, it facilitates impact mitigation of new and existing hydropower plants of various types across Europe. The tool does not yet support VBAs. In order to use it and produce reliable results, all input fields have to be reset manually before making a new assessment. The input window contains examplary dummy data.
