    This dataset and codebook correspond to the initial round of survey data gathered in Germany in 2022, within the project FULFILL - Fundamental Decarbonisation Through Sufficiency By Lifestyle Changes. As part of Work Package 3 (WP3) in the FULFILL project, we collected quantitative data from six countries: Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, and India. In the first round of the survey, we recruited a representative sample of approximately 2000 households in each country, taking into account both the individual and household perspectives. The survey includes a quantitative assessment of the carbon footprint in various domains of life, such as housing, mobility, and diet. In addition to this, the survey also measures socio-economic factors such as age, gender, income, education, household size, life stage, and political orientation. Furthermore, the survey includes measures of quality of life, encompassing aspects such as health and well-being, environmental quality, financial security, and comfort.

    Authors: Boer, Lukas;

    Diese Dissertation beantwortet verschiedene politikrelevante ökonomische Fragen in den Bereichen Handelspolitik, Geldpolitik, sowie Rohstoffmärkte und Energieökonomik mit Hilfe von strukturellen Vektorautoregressionsmodellen (SVAR). SVARs stellen eine effektive Möglichkeit dar, die Beziehungen zwischen verschiedenen makroökonomischen und/oder Finanzmarkt-Variablen zu modellieren und werden verwendet, um die dynamischen kausalen Effekte von ökonomischen Schocks zu schätzen. Für jede ökonomische Fragestellung wird eine Identifikationsstrategie angewandt, die auf die betrachteten Daten und ihre statistischen Eigenschaften sowie die zugrundeliegenden Annahmen über ökonomische Mechanismen zwischen den betrachteten Zeitreihen zugeschnitten ist. Im Einzelnen besteht diese Dissertation aus vier Kapiteln. In den ersten beiden Kapiteln werden die Auswirkungen von Handelspolitik auf Finanzmärkte und auf die Makroökonomie geschätzt. Das dritte Kapitel liefert einen methodischen Beitrag zur SVAR-Literatur, der in einer Anwendung zu den Effekten von Geldpolitik dargestellt wird. Das letzte Kapitel verlässt die Felder der Handels- und Geldpolitik und wendet sich Rohstoffmärkten und der Energiewirtschaft zu, stützt sich dabei aber ebenfalls auf Zeitreihenmethoden. Es analysiert die Rolle von Metallen in der Energiewende. This dissertation answers various policy relevant economic questions in the fields of trade policy, monetary policy, and commodity markets and energy economics using structural vector autoregression (SVAR) models. SVARs constitute a parsimonious way to model the relations between different macroeconomic and/or financial variables and they are used to estimate the dynamic causal effects of economic shocks. For each economic question, this dissertation applies an identification strategy that is tailored to the relevant data and its statistical properties as well as the underlying assumptions about economic mechanisms among the regarded time series. Specifically, this dissertation consists of four chapters. The first two chapters estimate the effects of trade policy on financial markets and on the macroeconomy. The third chapter makes a methodological contribution to the SVAR literature in an application to monetary policy shocks. The final chapter moves away from trade and monetary policy to commodity markets and energy economics but also relies on time series methods. It analyzes the role of metals for the clean energy transition.

    Die klimatischen Veränderungen unserer Erde betreffen alle mit der Natur in Verbindungstehenden Prozesse und daher auch die Pflanzen- und Tierwelt massiv. Die erhöhten Temperaturen wirken sich besonders auf den landwirtschaftlichen Sektor und somit auch auf die Weinanbaugebiete aus, da sie den Reifeprozess der Trauben beschleunigen und Produktionsabläufe verändern. Diese Umstände werden in Zukunft eine Verschiebung der klimatischen Idealbedingungen und der Weinbaugebiete in den Norden Europas nach sich ziehen. Das Konzept der vorliegenden Arbeit beruht auf der nachhaltigen Grundidee, ein Weingut in stufenweisen Abschnitten auf der Insel Ærøin Dänemark zu realisieren, das eine zukunftsweisende Architektur schafft. Besonderer Wert wird auf die Ausarbeitung eines dreistufigen Plans mit zukünftiger Erweiterung gelegt. Außerdem beschäftigt sich diese Arbeit mit dem behutsamen Umgang eines Teils des Bestandsgebäudes(Dreikanthof) im Hinblick auf gerechte Sanierung und Umnutzung für touristische und wirtschaftliche Zwecke. Parallel zu dieser Diplomarbeit entstand eine zweite Arbeit von Hanna Jensen(„Weinerlebnis im hohen Norden - Planung eines Weinguts auf der Insel Ærø unter dem Aspekt der Nachhaltigkeit”),die sich mit demselben Weingut beschäftigt, allerdings andere Schwerpunktesetzt. Die Diplomarbeiten ergänzen sich, können aber auch für sich alleine stehen. Der Entwurf wurde teilweise gemeinsam ausgearbeitet. The climatic changes affecting our planet have a massive impact on all nature-related processes and therefore also on the flora and fauna. The increasing temperatures are affecting the agricultural sector and consequently also the wine-growing areas, as they accelerate the ripening process of the grapes and change production processes. In the future, these circumstances will result in a relocation of the ideal climatic conditions and winegrowing areas to the north of Europe. The concept of this thesis is based on the sustainable idea of realising a winery in stepby-step sequences on the island of Ærøin Denmark, creating a future-oriented architecture. Particular emphasis is placedon the elaboration of a three-stage plan with future expansion. In addition, this work deals with the careful handling of part of the existing building (three-corneredcourtyard) with regard to fair renovationand conversion for tourist and economic purposes.Parallel to this thesis, a second thesis was written by Hanna Jensen (“Wine experiencein the far north - planning a winery on the island of Ærø with focus on sustainability”),which deals with the same winery, but has a different focus. The diploma theses complement each other, but are also able to work independently. The design was partly worked out together.

    Die Energiewende einschließlich der Substitution von russischem Erdgas ist eine große Herausforderung, welche fördernde Maßnahmen in vielen Bereichen des Energiesektors verlangt. Einer dieser Bereiche ist die Erzeugung von Biomethan aus häuslichen Küchenabfällen. Diese beinhalten vorwiegend Lebensmittelabfälle. Ein großes ungenutztes Potenzial zu deren Nutzung ist vorhanden. Bürger, Abfallentsorger und Politik können beitragen, dieses zu realisieren. The energy transition, including the substitution of Russian natural gas, is a major challenge that requires supportive measures in many areas of the energy sector. One of these areas is the production of biomethane from domestic kitchen waste. This mainly includes food waste. There is a large untapped potential for its use. Citizens, waste management companies and politicians can contribute to realise this.

    Primärrohstoffe entstammen natürlichen Quellen und sind eine endliche Ressource. Sie stehen, abhängig von der räumlichen Lage, in unterschiedlicher Vielfalt zur Verfügung. In vielen europäischen Ländern gibt es jetzt schon kaum bis keine primären Rohstoffreserven.Eine alternative Rohstoffquelle sind die Sekundärrohstoffe. Im Bereich des Bauwesens sind diese Materialbestände in Bauwerken und der Infrastruktur zu finden. Aufgrund der Modernisierung kommt es zu einer zunehmenden materiellen Komplexität heutiger Bauwerke.Städte mit einer hohen Dichte an verbauten Materialien stehen hier besonders im Fokus (Urban Mining). Länderspezifische Ressourcenstrategien haben vor allem die Bewahrung der Primärrohstoffe und das Recycling von Sekundärrohstoffen als Ziel. Auch sollen langfristig,über den Lebenszyklus eines Bauwerks hinweg, die Bewertungsparameter der Ökobilanz reduziert werden. Planungswerkzeuge und -methoden sollen dabei helfen, den Bauwerksbestand bestmöglich wiederzugeben und eine aussagekräftige Bauwerksbewertung zuzulassen.Im Zuge dieser Arbeit wird die Methode der BIM-basierten Materiellen Gebäudepass-Berechnung am Beispiel eines modellierten Wohnhauses durchgeführt. Anfangs wird dasThema Abfallwirtschaft behandelt. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei in der Beschreibung des aktuellen Umgangs mit Baurestmassen in Österreich und der EU. Das Thema „Building Information Modeling“ wird im Anschluss beschrieben. Hier wird der Fokus auf das Verfahrenund dessen Handhabung hinsichtlich der ökologischen und ökonomischen Bewertung vonPlanungsobjekten gesetzt. Die Beschreibung von Möglichkeiten zur Ermittlung von Bauwerkskosten erfolgt im Anschluss. Der Schwerpunkt der Arbeit stellt die BIM-basiertematerielle Gebäudepassberechnung dar. Dabei werden neben der direkten Methodenbeschreibung auch ökologische und ökonomische Ergebnisse ermittelt, um indirekt, Rückschlüsse auf die untersuchte Methode zu erlauben. Die Berechnung erfolgt auf Basis des Referenzmodells (RF-Modell) und auf Grundlage von zwei ökologisch optimierten Modellen.Die ökologischen Optimierungsmaßnahmen führen, gegenüber dem RF-Modell, zu einer Verbesserung der Bewertungskenngrößen der Ökobilanz und zu einer Erhöhung des Recyclinganteils. Die Optimierungen haben eine Kostensteigerung zur Folge, welche durch eine Maßnahmenanpassung minimiert werden. Primary raw materials come from natural sources. They are infinite and depending on the spatial location. The amount of primary raw materials varies. Even now, in many European countries the quantity of primary raw reserves is very small or reaches a critical number. Analternative source of raw material are secondary raw materials. Regarding to the construction industry, these material stocks can be found in buildings or the infrastructure. Due to the modernisation, the complexity of materials used in constructions, increases. Cities with a high density of built-in materials are especially in focus (urban mining). The aim of country specific resource strategies is to prevent primary raw materials and to recycle secondary raw materials.Concerning to the life-cycle of constructions, the reduction of ecological parameters is an other important aim. Planning tools and methods should help to reproduce the building stock in the best possible way and allow a meaningful building evaluation.In the course of this thesis, the method of the BIM-based material passport is carried out using the example of a modelled building. Initially, the topic of waste management will be described.The focus is on the description of the current handling of construction waste in Austria and the EU. After that, the topic “Building Information Modelling” will be discussed followed by a description of the determination of building costs. The focus of this thesis is the BIM-based material passport calculation. Besides the description of the method, also ecological and economical results are determined. There by conclusions about the method can be made. The calculation is based on the original model and ecologically optimized models. Compared to the reference model the ecological optimization measures lead to an improvement in the assessment parameters of the life cycle assessment and to an increase in the proportion of recycling. Due to the optimizations, the building costs increase. These costs can be minimized by adapting the measures.

    Erreichung der Nachhaltigkeitsziele durch Mitmachregionen (MMRs) – machbar oder bloß ein Versuch? Nachhaltigkeit und Bewusstseinsbildung sind wesentliche Aspekte der Raumplanung. Neulengbach hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, die Nachhaltigkeitsziele durch die Einbindung der Bevölkerung zu erreichen. Dazu wurde Neulengbach Teil der Mitmachregionen und hat sich verpflichtet Maßnahmen und Veranstaltungen im Sinne der Mitmachregionen zu organisieren, um so Gelegenheiten zu schaffen, die zur Bewusstseinsbildung in Bezug auf Nachhaltigkeit beitragen sollen.Werden durch solche Veranstaltungen neue Zielgruppen erreicht, die überzeugt wurden und neugierig sind, oder spricht es nur den Teil der Bevölkerung an, der bereits ein gewisses Maß an Bewusstsein für das Thema hat? Die Diplomarbeit untersucht inwieweit Mitmachregionen in der Region Neulengbach und umadum zur Umsetzung der Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) beitragen können und wie die Potenziale durch die Einbindung der Bevölkerung genutzt werden können.SDGs sind eine globale Agenda zur Förderung einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung. Ihre Umsetzung erfordert lokale Maßnahmen und Engagement der Bevölkerung. Indem Sie die Rolle von Mitmachregionen in der Region Neulengbach bei der Umsetzung der angepassten SDGs untersuchen, leistet die Stadtgemeinde einen Beitrag zur Förderung nachhaltiger Entwicklung auf lokaler Ebene.Durch die Partizipation und den Versuch der aktiven Einbindung der Bevölkerung können wesentliche Erkenntnisse darüber gewonnen werden, was die verschiedenen Teile der Bevölkerung möchten und brauchen. Durch die Beteiligung an Entscheidungsprozessen bei nachhaltigen Maßnahmen, kann die Bevölkerung motiviert werden diese Veränderung aktiv umzusetzen und zu akzeptieren. Die Analyse von Mitmachregionen in der Region Neulengbach trägt zur Erforschung undFörderung von lokalen Entwicklungsstrategien bei. Achieving the sustainability goals through participatory regions (MMRs) - feasible or merely an attempt? Sustainability and awareness raising are essential aspects of spatial planning. Neulengbach has set itself the goal of achieving the sustainability goals by involving the population. To this end, Neulengbach has become part of the participatory regions and has committed itself to organising measures and events in the spirit of the participatory regions in order to create opportunities that will contribute to raising awareness with regard to sustainability.Do such events reach new target groups that have been convinced and are curious, or does it only appeal to the part of the population that already has a certain level of awareness of the topic? The thesis examines to what extent participatory regions in the Neulengbach and umadum region can contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how the potentials can be used by involving the population.SDGs are a global agenda to promote sustainable development. Their implementation requires local action and engagement of the population. By exploring the role of participatory regions in the Neulengbach region in the implementation of the adapted SDGs, the municipality contributes to the promotion of sustainable development at the local level. Through participation and the attempt to actively involve the population, essential insights can be gained into what the different parts of the population want and need. By participating in decisionmaking processes for sustainable measures, the population can be motivated to actively implement and accept these changes. The analysis of participatory regions in the Neulengbach region contributes to the research and promotion of local development strategies.

    Authors: Hrad, Marlies; Huber-Humer, Marion; Wechselberger, Viktoria;

    Biogas bzw. das daraus gewinnbare Biomethan ist ein erneuerbarer Energieträger, der zur Erzeugung von Strom und/oder Wärme, als Kraftstoff oder Erdgassubstitut dient. Die Biogaserzeugung wird daher als nachhaltige Strategie zur Minderung von anthropogenen Treibhausgasen beschrieben. Eineindeutig positiver Umweltnutzen ist jedoch insbesondere von den Prozess- bzw. Lagerungsemissionen sowie den technischen Verlusten bei der Nutzung oder Aufbereitung des produzierten Biogases abhängig. Die Evaluierung bzw. Minimierung der prozessbedingten Treibhausgasemissionen (insbesondere der Methanemissionen) ist daher ein wesentlicher Schritt, um die Nachhaltigkeit der Biogasindustrie zu fördern, Methan (CH4) ist ein äußerst starkes Treibhausgas, das etwa 80-mal klimaschädlicher ist als Kohlendioxid über einen Zeitraum von 20 Jahren.

    Die Durchströmturbine ist eine radiale Gleichdruckturbine, welche zweimal beaufschlagt wird. Das einströmende Wasser wird stoßfrei und mit hoher Geschwindigkeit dem walzenförmigen Trommelrad zugeführt. Dabei tritt der Freistrahl auf den Laufradschaufeln auf, durchquert das Laufrad und tritt auf den gegenüberliegenden Laufradschaufeln erneut auf. Aufgrund der einfachen und gleichzeitig robusten Bauweise wird die Durchströmturbine häufig bei Kleinwasserkraftwerken verwendet. Kleinwasserkraftwerke gewinnen mit dem Ziel der emissionsfreien Energiegewinnung immer mehr an Bedeutung - vor allem zur Deckung des Energiebedarfs bei Industrieunternehmen oder im Interesse des Umweltschutzes in Entwicklungsländern.Zur Leistungsbewertung der Durchströmturbine wird in dieser Arbeit eine numerische Strömungssimulation durchgeführt. Ausganglage dafür sind zur Verfügung gestellte Geometriedaten einer Versuchs-Durchströmturbine. Mit ANSYS ICEMCFD werden die Bereiche definiert sowie ein strukturiertes Netz generiert. Das vernetzte Modell wird in ANSYS FLUENT importiert und die numerische Strömungssimulation gestartet. Um vergleichbare Ergebnisse zu erhalten wird die Simulation für drei unterschiedliche Winkelgeschwindigkeiten durchgeführt: 20 rad/s, 25 rad/s und 35 rad/s. Zur Durchführung einer realitätsnahen Simulation ist die Auswahl der Randbedingungen von großer Wichtigkeit.Anhand der Simulationsergebnisse wird der Wasserlauf durch die Turbine visualisiert, der Wirkungsgrad bestimmt sowie die auf die Welle wirkenden Kräfte ermittelt. Die aus der Strömunssimulation erhaltenen Werte werden abschließend noch in das Muscheldiagramm der Versuchsturbine eingetragen und die Ergebnisse verglichen. The cross flow turbine is a radial impuls turbine, which is pressurized twice. The incoming water is fed shock-free and at high velocity to the drum-shaped impeller. The free jet hits the impeller blades, passes through the impeller and hits the opposite impeller blades again. Due to its simple yet robust design, the cross flow turbine is often used in small hydropower plants. Small hydropower plants are becoming increasingly important with the aim of emission-free energy generation - especially to meet the energy requirements of industrial companies or in the interests of environmental protection in developing countries.In order to evaluate the performance of the cross flow turbine, a numerical flow simulation is carried out in this work. The starting point for this is the geometry data provided for a test flow turbine. Using ANSYS ICEM CFD, the regions are defined and a structured mesh is generated. The meshed model is imported into ANSYS FLUENT and the numerical flow simulation is started. To obtain comparable results, the simulation is performed for three different angular velocities: 20 rad/s, 25 rad/s und 35 rad/s. To perform a realistic simulation, the selection of boundary conditions is of great importance.Based on the simulation results, the water flow through the runner is visualized, the efficiency is determined and the forces acting on the shaft are determined. Finally, the values obtained from the flow simulation are plotted on the turbine's Hill Chart and the results are compared.

    Authors: Boer, Lukas;

  • Authors: Ohersthaller, Bettina;

    Biogas bzw. das daraus gewinnbare Biomethan ist ein erneuerbarer Energieträger, der zur Erzeugung von Strom und/oder Wärme, als Kraftstoff oder Erdgassubstitut dient. Die Biogaserzeugung wird daher als nachhaltige Strategie zur Minderung von anthropogenen Treibhausgasen beschrieben. Eineindeutig positiver Umweltnutzen ist jedoch insbesondere von den Prozess- bzw. Lagerungsemissionen sowie den technischen Verlusten bei der Nutzung oder Aufbereitung des produzierten Biogases abhängig. Die Evaluierung bzw. Minimierung der prozessbedingten Treibhausgasemissionen (insbesondere der Methanemissionen) ist daher ein wesentlicher Schritt, um die Nachhaltigkeit der Biogasindustrie zu fördern, Methan (CH4) ist ein äußerst starkes Treibhausgas, das etwa 80-mal klimaschädlicher ist als Kohlendioxid über einen Zeitraum von 20 Jahren.

    Die Durchströmturbine ist eine radiale Gleichdruckturbine, welche zweimal beaufschlagt wird. Das einströmende Wasser wird stoßfrei und mit hoher Geschwindigkeit dem walzenförmigen Trommelrad zugeführt. Dabei tritt der Freistrahl auf den Laufradschaufeln auf, durchquert das Laufrad und tritt auf den gegenüberliegenden Laufradschaufeln erneut auf. Aufgrund der einfachen und gleichzeitig robusten Bauweise wird die Durchströmturbine häufig bei Kleinwasserkraftwerken verwendet. Kleinwasserkraftwerke gewinnen mit dem Ziel der emissionsfreien Energiegewinnung immer mehr an Bedeutung - vor allem zur Deckung des Energiebedarfs bei Industrieunternehmen oder im Interesse des Umweltschutzes in Entwicklungsländern.Zur Leistungsbewertung der Durchströmturbine wird in dieser Arbeit eine numerische Strömungssimulation durchgeführt. Ausganglage dafür sind zur Verfügung gestellte Geometriedaten einer Versuchs-Durchströmturbine. Mit ANSYS ICEMCFD werden die Bereiche definiert sowie ein strukturiertes Netz generiert. Das vernetzte Modell wird in ANSYS FLUENT importiert und die numerische Strömungssimulation gestartet. Um vergleichbare Ergebnisse zu erhalten wird die Simulation für drei unterschiedliche Winkelgeschwindigkeiten durchgeführt: 20 rad/s, 25 rad/s und 35 rad/s. Zur Durchführung einer realitätsnahen Simulation ist die Auswahl der Randbedingungen von großer Wichtigkeit.Anhand der Simulationsergebnisse wird der Wasserlauf durch die Turbine visualisiert, der Wirkungsgrad bestimmt sowie die auf die Welle wirkenden Kräfte ermittelt. Die aus der Strömunssimulation erhaltenen Werte werden abschließend noch in das Muscheldiagramm der Versuchsturbine eingetragen und die Ergebnisse verglichen. The cross flow turbine is a radial impuls turbine, which is pressurized twice. The incoming water is fed shock-free and at high velocity to the drum-shaped impeller. The free jet hits the impeller blades, passes through the impeller and hits the opposite impeller blades again. Due to its simple yet robust design, the cross flow turbine is often used in small hydropower plants. Small hydropower plants are becoming increasingly important with the aim of emission-free energy generation - especially to meet the energy requirements of industrial companies or in the interests of environmental protection in developing countries.In order to evaluate the performance of the cross flow turbine, a numerical flow simulation is carried out in this work. The starting point for this is the geometry data provided for a test flow turbine. Using ANSYS ICEM CFD, the regions are defined and a structured mesh is generated. The meshed model is imported into ANSYS FLUENT and the numerical flow simulation is started. To obtain comparable results, the simulation is performed for three different angular velocities: 20 rad/s, 25 rad/s und 35 rad/s. To perform a realistic simulation, the selection of boundary conditions is of great importance.Based on the simulation results, the water flow through the runner is visualized, the efficiency is determined and the forces acting on the shaft are determined. Finally, the values obtained from the flow simulation are plotted on the turbine's Hill Chart and the results are compared.
