O objetivo deste artigo é lançar luzes sobre as implicações da mudança climática para as organizações. Para fazer frente a esse debate, são explorados: o conceito de "inteligência ambiental" (IA); as estratégias por meio das quais as organizações fazem frente ao desafio da mudança climática; as oportunidades que explicam a adoção dessas estratégias; e o papel fornecido pela função produção para que tais estratégias possuam o efeito desejado. Por fim, tais conceitos são sistematizados, buscando-se uma integração dos modelos teóricos existentes, até então considerados de maneira estanque.The aim of this paper is to enlighten the implications of climate change for organizations. To deal with this subject, the follow issues are analyzed: concept of environmental intelligence; opportunities which justify the adoption of these strategies, and the main role performed by the production function to implement such strategies. Finally, concepts of prior theoretical models are taken into account.

Biofuel production has been greatly discussed in Brazil. In 2004, these debates led the country to develop new policies and implement a national program for biodiesel use and production (PNPB) with the intent to increase the share of renewable energy and foster regional development. In this context, the present study aims to assess the impacts of PNPB on regional development in Tocantins State, northern Brazil. For this purpose, ranges of socio-economic indicators were collected among national and regional stakeholders, as well as specific literature. The preliminary results point out that distribution logistics appears to be a considerable constraint to the success of the PNPB. The concentration of biodiesel industries in the central-west region of the country, and the large distances to deliver biodiesel in the northern Brazil make biodiesel prices non-competitive when compared to fossil diesel. The results also suggest that the PNPB is not succeeding in promoting the integration of family agriculture in the Tocantins state, especially due to the structural difficulty of the agricultural sector, as well as the technical and political shortcomings presented by the mechanism of incentives.

Al2O3-SiO2 sol-gel coatings of different compositions have been deposited on 316L stainless steel by dip-coating from a sonocatalyzed sol made by the mixture of Al(OC4H9)3 e Si(OC2H5)4 as precursors and ethanol and acetic acid as solvents. The coatings were densified at 600, 800 and 1000°C and characterized by X-rays diffraction. The influence of the coatings on the corrosion behavior of the substrate was tested in 3% NaCl by potentiodynamic polarization curves at 1 mV s(-1). The electrochemical results showed that the films densified at 800 and 1000°C have a better electrochemical behavior than the films densified at 600°C. An increase in the aluminium content improves the behavior of the coatings. -

This paper is a synthesis of the development of energy contracting simulator in Portugal "ARS Simulator". The simulator compares the prices of the energy traders and indicates to consumers the best option to contract energy. To make the comparison, the simulator uses trader���s data (energy prices) and the consumer���s data (energy bill, threephase or single-phase power supply and equipment's), to estimate its consumption and finally determine which trader will be the best choice. The institutional framework of contemporary society has changed since the boundary between public and private spheres became increasingly fluid, with the State no longer the only actor to regulate the behaviour of social actors, nor indeed, the only actor to problematize what is public. Other actors have also begun to develop their own initiatives in relation to public matters, and this also applies to the environmental agenda. In this context, this article aims to develop an approach to public sector initiatives aimed at the environment by examining the experiences of the Public Management and Citizenship program database and the recent activities of the Friends of the Amazon Network. The conclusion is that such an approach should consider at least three elements: Transversality - environmental impacts involve different areas of knowledge and governmental action; No Neutrality - understanding environmental impacts involves negotiation in the public arena; Governance - environmental issues require coordination and relationships between different actors.

Brazil is highly exposed to climate change risks. The impacts of global climate change risks and local practices on the Amazon and Cerrado biomes are of particular concern, as they provide vital ecosystem services to Brazil, the South American region, and the world. The Brazil Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR) examines the implications of climate change and climate action for Brazil's development objectives and priorities. It identifies opportunities for Brazil to achieve both its development goals and its climate commitments. It lays out a combination of sectoral and economy-wide policy reforms, as well as targeted investments in near- and medium-term mitigation and adaptation measures to achieve more rapid and inclusive development with lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The idea is to maximize synergies between climate and development objectives, while addressing trade-offs among policy objectives and key transition challenges.

The sun has an extremely important role in the existence of human beings, and Brazil has a privileged geographical position to explore sunlight. The union of these two factors favors the use of solar cells for converting solar energy into electricity by photovoltaic technology: it is a great alternative energy source, especially for being a clean one, causing less damage to the environment. This paper addresses the photovoltaic technology with a focus on hospitals, through case studies found in international literature, because hospitals, even running all important services to society, have a potential for pollution capable of causing damage to human health and the environment that is around them. It is estimated that the Brazilian oil reserves are sufficient for twenty-two years. This makes the search for alternative sources for power generation a necessity.

Este trabalho estuda o potencial de aproveitamento energético dos subprodutos biogás e lodo gerados na estação de tratamento de efluentes (ETE) Laboreaux em Itabira (MG), composta de reatores UASB, filtros biológicos percoladores e unidade de desaguamento do lodo por filtro prensa. Os subprodutos biogás e lodo foram caracterizados em termos quantitativos (produção) e qualitativos (composição e poder calorífico) durante 12 meses de monitoramento. Foram estudados dois cenários de aproveitamento energético dos subprodutos: (i) uso prioritário do biogás para a secagem térmica do lodo e o excedente de biogás para geração de eletricidade em motor de combustão interna; e (ii) uso prioritário do biogás visando à geração de eletricidade e ao aproveitamento do calor dos gases de exaustão para a secagem térmica de lodo. Para a análise desses cenários, utilizou-se o software CHEMCAD® a fim de determinar as condições de queima do biogás em câmara de combustão e em motor de combustão interna, assim como na determinação dos balanços de massa e energia. O estudo analisou o potencial de aproveitamento dos subprodutos do tratamento como fonte de energia renovável para uso na própria ETE e para fornecimento a terceiros. No cenário 1, a geração de eletricidade é menor (atendendo 22,2% da demanda de energia da ETE), mas a secagem térmica possibilita maior redução no volume final de lodo a ser disposto ou a eliminação completa de disposição final se o lodo seco final (com 10% de umidade) for utilizado como combustível por terceiros. No cenário 2, a geração de eletricidade é capaz de suprir 57,6% da demanda de energia da ETE, todavia o calor contido nos gases de exaustão não é suficiente para a secagem de todo o lodo desaguado, configurando uma menor redução na quantidade de lodo a ser disposto (13,5 ou 24,9% de redução em massa, conforme a alternativa de remoção de umidade selecionada).
