The current status and challenges associated with the production and utilization of cellulosic ethanol in Korea are reviewed in this paper. Cellulosic ethanol has emerged as a promising option for mitigating Korea's CO(2) emissions and enhancing its energy security. Korea's limited biomass resources is the most critical barrier to achieving its implementation targets for cellulosic ethanol. Efforts to identify new suitable biomass resources for cellulosic ethanol production are ongoing and intensive. Aquatic biomasses including macroalgae and plantation wastes collected in the Southeast Asia region have been found to have great potential as feedstocks for the production of cellulosic ethanol. R&D explorations into the development of technologies that can convert biomass materials to ethanol more efficiently also are underway. It is expected that cellulosic ethanol will be in supply from 2020 and that, by 2030, its use will have effectively reduced Korea's total gasoline consumption by 10%.

Sathya;Abstract This paper highlights the load frequency control using dual mode Bat algorithm based scheduling of PI controllers for interconnected power systems. The bat inspired algorithm based on the echolocation of bats has been developed in 2010. In this study, the bat inspired algorithm based dual mode PI controller is applied to the multi-area interconnected thermal power system in order to tune the parameter PI controllers. The proposed controller is simple in structure and easy for implementation. The proposed controller was compared with those from conventional the PI controllers and Fuzzy gain scheduling of PI controllers. The simulation results show the point that the proposed bat inspired algorithm, based dual mode gain scheduling of PI controllers (BIDPI), provides better transient as well as steady state of response. It is also found that the proposed controller is less sensitive to the changes in system parameters.

They provide solutions to mitigate the environmental concerns posed by conventional fuel sources; however, the production of microalgal biofuels in large scale production system encounters few technical challenges. High quantity of nutrients requirements and water cost constrain the scaling up microalgal biomass to large scale commercial production. Crop protection against biomass losses due to grazers or pathogens is another stumbling block in microalgal field cultivation. With our existing technologies, unless coupled with high-value or mid-value products, algal biofuel cannot reach the economic target. Many microalgal industries that started targeting biofuel in the last decade had now adopted parallel business plans focusing on algae by-products application as cosmetic supplements, nutraceuticals, oils, natural color, and animal feed. This review provides the current status and proposes a framework for key supply demand, challenges for cost-effective and sustainable use of water and nutrient. Emphasis is placed on the future industrial market status of value added by products of microalgal biomass. The cost factor for biorefinery process development needs to be addressed before its potential to be exploited for various value-added products with algal biofuel.

Cities located in South-Asia are facing serious issues due to waste, with countries like India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan top of the list of bad waste management. The increasing generation of solid waste and also the improper management of waste in Bangladesh leads to environmental degradation. Current waste management practice in Bangladesh is so weak that day by day it is harming the climate and creating a lot of unwanted situations. This research consists of an examination of the current administrative measures and presents another proposition for the executive cycle to decrease ecological contamination. The research study aims to decrease the amount of waste being dumped into municipal sanitary landfill sites & converting the waste into energy which is both financially and environmentally suitable by involving unemployed people in the management system. The results of this study will give an idea of how waste can be utilized as a resource and how this resource can be a capital good as well as how the local level problems can be solved by taking some strategies and making our environment suitable for future generations.

The performance of dual chambered mediator-less microbial fuel cell (MFC) operated under batch mode was evaluated under different operating temperatures, ranging between 20 and 55 °C, with step increase in temperature of 5 °C. Synthetic wastewater with sucrose as carbon source having chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 519–555 mg/L was used in the study. Temperature was a crucial factor in the performance of MFCs for both COD removal and electricity production. The MFC demonstrated highest COD removal efficiency of 84% and power density normalized to the anode surface area of 34.38 mW/m2 at operating temperature of 40 °C. Higher VSS to SS ratio was observed at the operating temperature between 35 and 45 °C. Under different operating temperatures the observed sludge yield was in the range of 0.05 to 0.14 g VSS/g COD removed. The maximum Coulombic and energy efficiencies were obtained at 40 °C, with values of 7.39 and 13.14%, respectively. Internal resistance of the MFC decreased with increase in operating temperature. Maximum internal resistance of 1,150 Ω was observed when the MFC was operated at 20 °C; whereas the minimum internal resistance (552 Ω) was observed at 55 °C.

Rajasekar; Ajay-D-Vimal Raj; Dinesh Chandra;India's steadily expanding populace has made it important to create innovative methods of transportation with electric vehicles (EV's) being the most favoured alternative. The major impediment is the negative impact caused by the improper setup of charging stations on the utility distribution system. This paper takes up the issue of optimal planning (siting and sizing) of charging station (CS) infrastructure in the city of Allahabad, India. It has been labelled as a future smart city under a pilot transportation project started by Government of India. A hybrid algorithm comprising of Genetic Algorithm and improved version of conventional Particle Swarm Optimization (GAIPSO) is employed in this study. The aim is to find optimal location of proposed charging stations in the Allahabad distribution system. PSO further re-optimizes the received sub-optimal solution (site and size of station) which leads to an overall improvement in its functionality and solution. Simulation studies on a real time system of Allahabad city clearly exhibits the superior performance of the aforementioned technique with respect to GA and PSO in terms of improvement in voltage profile and quality of solution obtained for the objective function.

Yard waste is either dumped or is being openly burned to get rid of it, instead of using it as a valuable renewable energy source. In this study, hydrothermal carbonization of yard waste was conducted to valorize it as a solid bio fuel, using a batch reactor. The effect of process parameter on yield, energy and physicochemical properties of the valorized solid bio fuel (hydrochar) was examined in this study by varying reaction temperature (160-200 °C for 2 h) and reaction time (2-24 h at 200 °C). The calorific value of hydrochar was within a range of 17.72-24.59 MJ/kg as compared to 15.37 MJ/kg for untreated yard waste. Hydrochar mass yield decreased from 78.6% at operating temperature - time of 160 °C -2 h to 45.6% at 200 °C -24 h. The plot of atomic ratios (H/C and O/C) demonstrates improvement in the coalification process which was mainly governed by decarboxylation and dehydration reactions. The grindability of the prepared hydrochar was comparable to that of coal. Hydrochar produced at lower reaction condition (160-200 °C at 2 h) have better flowability as compared to that produced at higher reaction condition (4-24 h at 200 °C). The reaction time longer than 12 h has a minimal effect on the yield, energy and physicochemical properties of hydrochar. Increasing reaction time and temperature improved the ignition and burnt temperature of hydrochar. All reaction condition has an energy ratio (energy output to energy input) of more than one making HTC process a net energy producer.

Ragit; Saroj Kumar Mohapatra;The present work aimed at the standardization of transesterification process parameters for the production of methyl ester of filtered neem oil and fuel characterization for engine performance. The effect of process parameters such as molar ratio, preheating temperature, catalyst concentration and reaction time was studied to standardize the transesterification process for estimating the highest recovery of ester with lowest possible viscosity. Based on the observations of the ester recovery and kinematic viscosity, it was found that filtered neem oil at 6:1 M ratio (methanol to oil) preheated at 55 °C temperature and maintaining 60 °C reaction temperature for 60 min in the presence of 2 percent KOH and then allowed to settle for 24 h in order to get lowest kinematic viscosity (2.7 cSt) with ester recovery (83.36%). Different fuel properties of the neem methyl ester and neem oil were also measured. Results show that the methyl ester of neem obtained under the optimum condition is an excellent substitute for fossil fuels.

The current status and challenges associated with the production and utilization of cellulosic ethanol in Korea are reviewed in this paper. Cellulosic ethanol has emerged as a promising option for mitigating Korea's CO(2) emissions and enhancing its energy security. Korea's limited biomass resources is the most critical barrier to achieving its implementation targets for cellulosic ethanol. Efforts to identify new suitable biomass resources for cellulosic ethanol production are ongoing and intensive. Aquatic biomasses including macroalgae and plantation wastes collected in the Southeast Asia region have been found to have great potential as feedstocks for the production of cellulosic ethanol. R&D explorations into the development of technologies that can convert biomass materials to ethanol more efficiently also are underway. It is expected that cellulosic ethanol will be in supply from 2020 and that, by 2030, its use will have effectively reduced Korea's total gasoline consumption by 10%.

Sathya;Abstract This paper highlights the load frequency control using dual mode Bat algorithm based scheduling of PI controllers for interconnected power systems. The bat inspired algorithm based on the echolocation of bats has been developed in 2010. In this study, the bat inspired algorithm based dual mode PI controller is applied to the multi-area interconnected thermal power system in order to tune the parameter PI controllers. The proposed controller is simple in structure and easy for implementation. The proposed controller was compared with those from conventional the PI controllers and Fuzzy gain scheduling of PI controllers. The simulation results show the point that the proposed bat inspired algorithm, based dual mode gain scheduling of PI controllers (BIDPI), provides better transient as well as steady state of response. It is also found that the proposed controller is less sensitive to the changes in system parameters.

They provide solutions to mitigate the environmental concerns posed by conventional fuel sources; however, the production of microalgal biofuels in large scale production system encounters few technical challenges. High quantity of nutrients requirements and water cost constrain the scaling up microalgal biomass to large scale commercial production. Crop protection against biomass losses due to grazers or pathogens is another stumbling block in microalgal field cultivation. With our existing technologies, unless coupled with high-value or mid-value products, algal biofuel cannot reach the economic target. Many microalgal industries that started targeting biofuel in the last decade had now adopted parallel business plans focusing on algae by-products application as cosmetic supplements, nutraceuticals, oils, natural color, and animal feed. This review provides the current status and proposes a framework for key supply demand, challenges for cost-effective and sustainable use of water and nutrient. Emphasis is placed on the future industrial market status of value added by products of microalgal biomass. The cost factor for biorefinery process development needs to be addressed before its potential to be exploited for various value-added products with algal biofuel.

Current waste management practice in Bangladesh is so weak that day by day it is harming the climate and creating a lot of unwanted situations. This research consists of an examination of the current administrative measures and presents another proposition for the executive cycle to decrease ecological contamination. The research study aims to decrease the amount of waste being dumped into municipal sanitary landfill sites & converting the waste into energy which is both financially and environmentally suitable by involving unemployed people in the management system. The results of this study will give an idea of how waste can be utilized as a resource and how this resource can be a capital good as well as how the local level problems can be solved by taking some strategies and making our environment suitable for future generations.

The performance of dual chambered mediator-less microbial fuel cell (MFC) operated under batch mode was evaluated under different operating temperatures, ranging between 20 and 55 °C, with step increase in temperature of 5 °C. Synthetic wastewater with sucrose as carbon source having chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 519–555 mg/L was used in the study. Temperature was a crucial factor in the performance of MFCs for both COD removal and electricity production. The MFC demonstrated highest COD removal efficiency of 84% and power density normalized to the anode surface area of 34.38 mW/m2 at operating temperature of 40 °C. Higher VSS to SS ratio was observed at the operating temperature between 35 and 45 °C. Under different operating temperatures the observed sludge yield was in the range of 0.05 to 0.14 g VSS/g COD removed. The maximum Coulombic and energy efficiencies were obtained at 40 °C, with values of 7.39 and 13.14%, respectively. Internal resistance of the MFC decreased with increase in operating temperature. Maximum internal resistance of 1,150 Ω was observed when the MFC was operated at 20 °C; whereas the minimum internal resistance (552 Ω) was observed at 55 °C.

The major impediment is the negative impact caused by the improper setup of charging stations on the utility distribution system. This paper takes up the issue of optimal planning (siting and sizing) of charging station (CS) infrastructure in the city of Allahabad, India. It has been labelled as a future smart city under a pilot transportation project started by Government of India. A hybrid algorithm comprising of Genetic Algorithm and improved version of conventional Particle Swarm Optimization (GAIPSO) is employed in this study. The aim is to find optimal location of proposed charging stations in the Allahabad distribution system. PSO further re-optimizes the received sub-optimal solution (site and size of station) which leads to an overall improvement in its functionality and solution. Simulation studies on a real time system of Allahabad city clearly exhibits the superior performance of the aforementioned technique with respect to GA and PSO in terms of improvement in voltage profile and quality of solution obtained for the objective function.

Yard waste is either dumped or is being openly burned to get rid of it, instead of using it as a valuable renewable energy source. In this study, hydrothermal carbonization of yard waste was conducted to valorize it as a solid bio fuel, using a batch reactor. The effect of process parameter on yield, energy and physicochemical properties of the valorized solid bio fuel (hydrochar) was examined in this study by varying reaction temperature (160-200 °C for 2 h) and reaction time (2-24 h at 200 °C). The calorific value of hydrochar was within a range of 17.72-24.59 MJ/kg as compared to 15.37 MJ/kg for untreated yard waste. Hydrochar mass yield decreased from 78.6% at operating temperature - time of 160 °C -2 h to 45.6% at 200 °C -24 h. The plot of atomic ratios (H/C and O/C) demonstrates improvement in the coalification process which was mainly governed by decarboxylation and dehydration reactions. The grindability of the prepared hydrochar was comparable to that of coal. Hydrochar produced at lower reaction condition (160-200 °C at 2 h) have better flowability as compared to that produced at higher reaction condition (4-24 h at 200 °C). The reaction time longer than 12 h has a minimal effect on the yield, energy and physicochemical properties of hydrochar. Increasing reaction time and temperature improved the ignition and burnt temperature of hydrochar. All reaction condition has an energy ratio (energy output to energy input) of more than one making HTC process a net energy producer.

The effect of process parameters such as molar ratio, preheating temperature, catalyst concentration and reaction time was studied to standardize the transesterification process for estimating the highest recovery of ester with lowest possible viscosity. Based on the observations of the ester recovery and kinematic viscosity, it was found that filtered neem oil at 6:1 M ratio (methanol to oil) preheated at 55 °C temperature and maintaining 60 °C reaction temperature for 60 min in the presence of 2 percent KOH and then allowed to settle for 24 h in order to get lowest kinematic viscosity (2.7 cSt) with ester recovery (83.36%). Different fuel properties of the neem methyl ester and neem oil were also measured. Results show that the methyl ester of neem obtained under the optimum condition is an excellent substitute for fossil fuels.
