description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article 2021 PolandPublisher:IGiPZ PAN Authors: Skrynyk, Oleh. Autor; Błażejczyk, Krzysztof. Autor;24 cm ; While significant increases in air temperature are being observed in the context of climate change, precipitation characteristics, indicators and indices seem to be changing in a more regionally-variable manner. High-mountain areas prove particularly subject to fluctuations and changes of climate, given that mountains serve as barriers to masses of air flowing over them, with the result that atmospheric precipitation totals are high in the context of the so-called orographic rainfall. Overall, the Chornohora represents the highest range anywhere in Ukraine’s Carpathian Mts, as there are six peaks over 2000 m a.s.l. capable of serving as a barrier running NW-SE. Nevertheless, the main ridge of the High Tatras (of the Slovakia-Poland borderland) is even higher and runs W-E. Each massif is some 30 km in length, while the two ranges are separated by a distance of almost 350 km. Main drainage divides run along the highest ridges here, with the Tatras separating the drainage basins of the Vistula and Danube, while the Chornohora represent a divide between the Prut and Tysa basins. The aim here has been to present characteristics of atmospheric precipitation in Tatra and Chornohora Mts. as these are seen to relate to atmospheric circulation. To this end, the dependent relationship between intensity of precipitation and atmospheric circulation was examined exhaustively, with changes in the latter considered from the point of view of intensity of precipitation in the massifs under study, and with trends for precipitation over the study period also looked for.The Niedźwiedź (2017) classification of types of atmospheric circulation was applied, with annual values calculated for circulation indicators P (a W-E inflow), S (a S-N inflow) and C (a cyclonic/anticyclonic inflow). Overall, the study drew on 1961‑2015 daily precipitation data from the north-eastern slope of Chornohora Mts. (as represented by Ukraine’s Pozhyzhevska weather station, PO, 1451 m a.s.l.), as well as the north slope of the Tatra Mts. (as ...

Autor;24 cm ; Average global temperatures have been rising extremely rapidly over recent decades, with all the side-effects that may denote, including increased risks of both drought and flood, prolongation of the growing season, intensification of other extreme weather events, potentially enhanced erosion and sediment transport through river basins, and even invasions of pests and diseases. Against that factual background, this paper presents a review, and in essence a summary, of existing scientific literature as it pertains to the functioning of the riparian ecosystems present within agricultural landscapes, as well as the former’s potential role in mitigating climate change. Riparian ecosystems of course constitute areas of transition between the aquatic and terrestrial environments, and are in a position to serve as buffers, as they filter and neutralise nutrients and pesticides descending from areas at higher elevations, provide shade (that may limit the spread of light-demanding alien species), moderate stream temperatures, and work to sequester atmospheric CO2 in both plant biomass and soil. They also support water retention in river valleys, and protect banks against erosion. Zoned buffer strips consisting of one strip of trees and one of grassy or herbaceous vegetation are shown to be among the most-effective measures deployable in the mitigation of diffuse pollution. A search through 2 bibliographical databases (the Web of Science Core Collection and Scopus) was undertaken in respect of the terms: ” riparian buffer” OR” riparian corridor” OR” riparian zone” OR” riparian strip” AND” agricultural” AND” climate change”. Such a procedure allowed for the identification of 76 separate scientific papers, albeit with 12 of these warranting exclusion from further analyses on account of their actual irrelevance. The largest body of literature on this topic is seen to concentrate on highly-developed countries of North America and Europe, notably the USA, Canada and France. Deeper analysis of the papers found points to ...

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article 2021Publisher:Polskie Towarzystwo Leśne Authors: Czacharowski, Marcin; Drozdowski, Stanisław;Recent changes in the natural and social environments require new solutions regarding the management of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) stands, i.e. one of the key forest−forming and economically−important tree species in Europe. The long tradition combined with efforts to perfect the management by clear−cutting, there is still a search for alternative methods of managing in all European biogeographical regions, in which Scots pine plays a leading role. Regeneration and renewal over large areas is difficult to achieve (Mediterranean or boreal regions). And even in places where it remains possible, it can end up with large, even−aged stands of inevitably simplified structure, which prove highly, and perhaps increasingly, vulnerable to damage from both abiotic (frost or windthrow) and biotic (pathogenic fungi and insect pests) agents. These management methods also generate abrupt change in the forest landscape and, while this actually just represents advantage being taken of the natural capacity of pines to reoccupy extensive cleared areas (such as those following fires or gales), it frequently now proves unacceptable to the public. This is seen in particular in the areas around large cities or nature protection areas. The aim of this article is to review both traditional and alternative means of management of Scots pine stands within three largest biogeographical regions of Europe. While obviously relating to the environmental conditions holding sway in these different regions, silviculture in pine stands is based around a similar spectrum of applied methods that favour the emergence of single−, double− or multi−generation stands. In the boreal region, where the species finds suitable conditions for its growth, we search for effective methods to imitate small−scale natural disturbances, initiating the regeneration within gaps of differing sizes. In turn, in the continental region, research focuses on devising methods to make full use of natural regeneration, as well as seeking to limit the negative effects of clear− −cutting in the forest landscape, e.g. by leaving seed or residual trees, and clumps of the old−growth. Here too, the alternatives to clear−cutting may lie in partial or full felling being confined to smaller areas; as well as in the gradual inclusion within the main stand of trees regenerating successfully beneath the tree canopy. Finally, in the Mediterranean region, where the main factor limiting regeneration is drought, various shelterwood−felling variants are applied to fully benefit from the shielding that the mother stand offers. All the regions witness more and more frequent restrictions on the use of management means based on clear−cutting, with wider use of alternative silvicultural methods looking inevitable in the near future, in the context of both climate and social change. The need to compromise between the production−related and other functions of pine stands, and to devise generally−acceptable methods for their management, are now among the more−difficult challenges facing European forestry. Autor;24 cm ; The article presents a comparison of the results of calculations of wind energy resources based on measurements at meteorological stations and on the basis of the results of the COSMO meteorological model in three basic resolutions in the period of 2011-2019. The aim of the study was to compare the results of calculations of wind energy resources obtained on the basis of measurements at meteorological stations and on the basis of analyzes resulting from the work of meteorological numerical models, operating at various spatial scales. It was found that the use of archived results of analyzes of meteorological models, especially those in high resolution, allows for such an assessment in a climatological sense in the same way as the results of measurements at meteorological stations used for this purpose. For investment purposes, calculations of wind energy resources at higher altitudes were also carried out, so that the results could also be applied to high wind turbines – those of higher power.

Organizacje międzynarodowe, rządy, samorządy, religie, społeczności lokalne, organizacje pozarządowe, a nawet poszczególne osoby szukają odpowiedzi na wyzwania, przed jakimi przyszło stanąć ludzkiej cywilizacji. The ...

The research was carried out on an experimental plot located in the north−western part of Poland, in the Kalisz Pomorski Forest District. The soil preparation methods included: ploughing furrows with the LPZ−75 plough, ploughing furrows with active U−162 plough and ploughing up ridges using a plough−miller. On the other hand, logging residues management involved the following methods: complete removal, leaving residues on the clear−cut, as well as comminution of all residues. Methods of soil preparation and the ways of logging residues management significantly affected biomass of Scots pine regeneration. Among the methods of logging residues management, the most favourable effect was noted on the areas where logging residues were left. Mixing the litter with mineral soil promotes faster release of nutrients from the substrate. On the other hand, the lack of any soil preparation negatively affects the growth of Scots pine biomass. The optimal method of site preparation was the variant of leaving residues on the clear−cut, and then ploughing the furrows with the LPZ−75 plough. Sylwan 165 (1): 21-29

The greatest popularity of the phenomenon of flânerie appears in the periodof modernism, when it was often used by poets and writers to describe the expression and dynamics of an individual. Flaneur, the carefree hero aimlessly strolling around the city, described everyday life, filtering it through his own perception. However, can the flaneur figure still be used today, and have any innovative potential? Reporter Filip Springer seems to be one of the authors whose texts play with the modernist dimension of the flaneur. As a result of shifting the Focus from the aesthetic to the ethical, a new strategy of action is revealed, which I call the ecological flaneur, an environmental walk during which one experiences a reality changed by human activity and as a result of climate change caused by it. Based on the series Zmiana klimatu już tu jest and Wyprawa po nadzieję, as well as a collection of reports Wanna z kolumnadą. Reportaże o polskiej przestrzeni, I will trace the changes made by the reporter in the modernist dimension of the flaneur. ; Tekst powstał w ramach grantu Uniwersytetu Gdańskiego: program małych grantów, UGrants-first.

; The construction of a more diversified crude oil supplies structure to Poland has been an important element influencing the Polish energy policy for years. Many political parties have raised the legitimacy of diversifying the sources and directions of supply of this commodity, and one of the most important projects in this area was the construction of a pipeline connecting the Polish and Ukrainian crude oil systems. Ultimately, the crude oil was to be imported from the Caspian Sea region. The article aims to analyse the political thought of Law and Justice, Civic Platform, and the Polish People’s Party regarding the construction of the Odessa–Brody–Płock pipeline to Poland. The considerations in the article make it possible to highlight the main arguments formulated by politicians of these political parties on the problems of supplying energy resources to Poland. The starting point of the analysis is the thesis that, in the opinion of Polish political parties, ...

description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article 2021 PolandPublisher:IGiPZ PAN Authors: Skrynyk, Oleh.
