    Authors: AMMAR MAHJOUBI;

    In this paper, we have studied the solar radiation data available at two meteorological stations located in the south of Tunisia. Measurements of global solar radiation on horizontal surface are compared to predictions made by different methods. The first method is based on Angström-Prescott formula which correlates relative global solar radiation H/H0 to corresponding relative duration of bright sunshine SS/SS0. The second method, a model due to Mechlouch et al., uses cloud cover N, the hours of the day t and the quantum of the year q. The third method, an empirical relation due to Sivkov, uses the monthly sunshine duration nm and the noon altitude of the sun h. The models are compared and tested on the basis of statistical error tests (MBE, RMSE, MPE and R2) and the results are presented.

    Cluster head selection and energy utilization are efficiently managed using a conventional routing mechanism employing Wireless Sensor Nodes (WSNs). The paper propose a method to enhance network lifetime with an average greater energy utilization. The SVM is used to tackle routing problems in the mobile base station connected with the infrastructure network. The protocol is intended to avoid the control by a centralised router or mobile base station of the complete mobile sensor nodes. In comparison to traditional energy efficient algorithms, the validation of SVM methodology shows an effective routing efficacy. The results against typical routing techniques over WSNs have been found successful.

Integrating building information modeling and green building certification: The BIM-LEED application model development. University of Florida, 2010."]} Achieving environmental sustainability is one of the important issues considered in many countries’ vision. Green/Sustainable building is widely used terminology for describing a friendly environmental construction. Applying sustainable practices has a significant importance in various fields, including construction field that consumes an enormous amount of resource and causes a considerable amount of waste. The need for sustainability is increased in the regions that suffering from the limitation of natural resource and extreme weather conditions such as Saudi Arabia. Since buildings designs are getting sophisticated, the need for tools, which support decision-making for sustainability issues, is increasing, especially in the design and preconstruction stages. In this context, Building Information Modeling (BIM) can aid in performing complex building performance analyses to ensure an optimized sustainable building design. Accordingly, this paper introduces a roadmap towards developing a systematic approach for presenting the sustainability of buildings using BIM. The approach includes set of main processes including; identifying the sustainability parameters that can be used for sustainability assessment in Saudi Arabia, developing sustainability assessment method that fits the special circumstances in the Kingdom, identifying the sustainability requirements and BIM functions that can be used for satisfying these requirements, and integrating these requirements with identified functions. As a result, the sustainability-BIM approach can be developed which helps designers in assessing the sustainability and exploring different design alternatives at the early stage of the construction project.

    In the wake of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals—zero hunger and affordable modern/clean energy for all—many developing countries have taken serious steps in recent years to increase clean energy access for the rural population. The government of Pakistan has similarly made numerous efforts to promote the use of clean energy sources in the rural areas of the country. Therefore, this study examines rural households’ energy choices for cooking and lighting in Pakistan. In doing so, a comprehensive dataset is collected from three different districts of Pakistan between 2020 and 2021, and multivariate probit (MVP) model and Chi-square tests are employed. The Chi-square results indicate that the age, education level, and occupation of the household-head; household size and income; distance to market and wood source; and biogas system ownership are the significant factors affecting cooking choices. The MVP results show that an increase in education level, school-going children, access to credit facilities, and gender (female) are the key positive factors, whereas an increase in the distance to nearest market/road, household size, and age are the factors that negatively affect the likelihood of using clean energy sources for lighting. While comparing the propensity to use modern/clean energy fuels across the three districts, infrastructural development and literacy rate were found to be crucial factors.

    Availability of data on agricultural activities and production are essential for an appropriate socio-economic planning and sustainability. This study was conducted using a questionnaire that was randomly distributed to farmers to identify some features of the agricultural activities in Hail region and to serve as baseline data on agricultural practices. The questionnaire was divided into main topics including socio-economic status of farms, farm area, main crops, production systems, agricultural practices, financial support, and use of wind breaks, water conservation, animal husbandry and marketing. Some of the results showed that date palms and alfalfa fodder were found to be the main grown crops in addition to citrus, grapes, vegetables, wheat and Rye. In most cases, all these crops were cultivated in open fields, compared to only 18% grown in green houses. About half of the farmers adopted the monoculture system and only 44.9% of them applied the crop rotation. More than 70% of farmers raise animals and the most commonly reared animal are sheep (53.6%) followed by goats (23%), camels (18%) and poultry (4.5%). The study revealed that Hail region is an important agricultural area in KSA and some agricultural practices need to be revised and directed towards sustainability through extension programmes.

    Résumé Le domaine de l'ingénierie thermique connaît une révolution transformatrice à travers l'application de l'intelligence artificielle (IA). Dans cette étude, un réseau neuronal artificiel (RNA) avec un algorithme génétique est utilisé comme un outil puissant pour prédire avec précision les propriétés thermophysiques des suspensions de matériaux à changement de phase nano-encapsulés (NEPCM). Le NEPCM se compose d'eau comme fluide de base, les matériaux de la coque et du noyau étant représentés par le laurylsulfate de sodium (SLS) et le n-eicosane, respectivement. Les résultats démontrent l'efficacité du modèle ANN à prédire avec succès la viscosité dynamique, la densité et la contrainte de cisaillement en utilisant seulement deux paramètres d'entrée. Cependant, il convient de noter que le modèle présente des performances légèrement plus faibles dans la prédiction de la conductivité thermique. Ces résultats contribuent au corpus croissant de connaissances en ingénierie thermique assistée par IA et mettent en évidence le potentiel de prédiction améliorée des propriétés NEPCM. Les recherches futures devraient se concentrer sur l'amélioration de la précision des prédictions de conductivité thermique et l'exploration de paramètres d'entrée supplémentaires pour améliorer davantage les performances du modèle. Resumen El campo de la ingeniería térmica está experimentando una revolución transformadora a través de la aplicación de la inteligencia artificial (IA). En este estudio, se emplea una red neuronal artificial (ANN) con un algoritmo genético como una poderosa herramienta para predecir con precisión las propiedades termofísicas de las suspensiones de material de cambio de fase nanoencapsulado (NEPCM). El NEPCM consiste en agua como fluido base, con los materiales de la cáscara y el núcleo representados por laurilsulfato de sodio (SLS) y n-eicosano, respectivamente. Los resultados demuestran la efectividad del modelo ANN para predecir con éxito la viscosidad dinámica, la densidad y la tensión de corte utilizando solo dos parámetros de entrada. Sin embargo, vale la pena señalar que el modelo muestra un rendimiento ligeramente más débil en la predicción de la conductividad térmica. Estos hallazgos contribuyen al creciente cuerpo de conocimientos en ingeniería térmica asistida por IA y destacan el potencial para mejorar la predicción de las propiedades de NEPCM. La investigación futura debe centrarse en mejorar la precisión de las predicciones de conductividad térmica y explorar parámetros de entrada adicionales para mejorar aún más el rendimiento del modelo. Abstract The field of thermal engineering is undergoing a transformative revolution through the application of artificial intelligence (AI). In this study, an artificial neural network (ANN) with a genetic algorithm is employed as a powerful tool to accurately predict the thermophysical properties of nano-encapsulated phase change material (NEPCM) suspensions. The NEPCM consists of water as the base fluid, with the shell and core materials represented by sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and n-eicosane, respectively. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the ANN model in successfully predicting dynamic viscosity, density, and shear stress using only two input parameters. However, it is worth noting that the model exhibits slightly weaker performance in predicting thermal conductivity. These findings contribute to the growing body of knowledge in AI-assisted thermal engineering and highlight the potential for enhanced prediction of NEPCM properties. Future research should focus on improving the accuracy of thermal conductivity predictions and exploring additional input parameters to further enhance the model's performance. يشهد مجال الهندسة الحرارية ثورة تحويلية من خلال تطبيق الذكاء الاصطناعي (AI). في هذه الدراسة، يتم استخدام شبكة عصبية اصطناعية (ANN) مع خوارزمية وراثية كأداة قوية للتنبؤ بدقة بالخصائص الفيزيائية الحرارية لمعلقات مواد تغيير الطور المغلفة بالنانو (NEPCM). يتكون NEPCM من الماء كسائل أساسي، مع القشرة والمواد الأساسية الممثلة بكبريتات لوريل الصوديوم (SLS) و n - eicosane، على التوالي. تُظهر النتائج فعالية نموذج ANN في التنبؤ بنجاح باللزوجة الديناميكية والكثافة وإجهاد القص باستخدام اثنين فقط من معلمات الإدخال. ومع ذلك، تجدر الإشارة إلى أن النموذج يُظهر أداءً أضعف قليلاً في التنبؤ بالتوصيل الحراري. تساهم هذه النتائج في المجموعة المتنامية من المعرفة في الهندسة الحرارية بمساعدة الذكاء الاصطناعي وتسلط الضوء على إمكانية التنبؤ المعزز بخصائص NEPCM. يجب أن تركز الأبحاث المستقبلية على تحسين دقة تنبؤات الموصلية الحرارية واستكشاف معلمات مدخلات إضافية لزيادة تعزيز أداء النموذج.

    Authors: AMMAR MAHJOUBI;
