ZnTe:Cu films were deposited on the back surface of the CdTe layer presenting as ohmic back contact. The substrate was soda lime glass coated with ITO films by rf magnetron sputtering serving as the transparent front contact. A thin layer of CdS with thickness about 80nm was applied by chemical bath deposition. Close-spaced sublimation of the CdTe films was accomplished by placing a CdTe source in a close proximity (6mm) to the substrate in vacuum chamber with low pressure about 3×10-2 mbar. The source was heated to 550 ∘C and the substrate to 450 ∘C. This arrangement causes Cd and Te to sublime from source and diffuse to the substrate. The fabricated cells were investigated using current-voltage (I-V) in the temperature range 20-300K under a standard AM1.5 illumination in order to define the transport mechanism in the heterojunction. Tunnelling enhanced interface recombination has been found to dominate carrier transport mechanism in the junction at all investigated temperatures.

The transport sector is the largest energy-consuming sector in Thailand, followed by the industrial and residential sectors, respectively. In order to reduce both imported energy and environmental emissions, energy conservation programs would be implemented. This paper forecasts the growth in energy demand and corresponding emissions to the year 2020 for those three sectors by using a model based on the end-use approach. The energy savings from the energy conservation strategies, such as energy efficiency improvement and energy demand management, are assessed and also the implications on electricity generation expansion planning are examined. The integrated resource planning (IRP) model is used to find the least-cost electricity generation expansion plans. Energy conservation options, including energy efficiency improvement programs, are introduced in the residential and industrial sectors. Public transportation and engine technology improvements are introduced in the transport sector. The effects of energy conservation options are analyzed using a scenario-based approach. The results of analysis reveal that the improvement of public transportation can reduce future energy requirements and CO2 emissions in 2020 by 635 thousand ton of oil equivalent (toe) and 2024 thousand ton of CO2 equivalent, respectively. If all options are simultaneously implemented, the potential of energy savings and CO2 mitigation in 2020 are estimated to be 1240 thousand toe and 3622 thousand ton of CO2 equivalent, respectively.

The installation of this type of power source usually requires a secondary power source, often the energy storage system such as battery to smoothen power output over time. In this article, we introduce, an alternative energy storage system, an organic-electrolyte redox flow battery (RFB), which uses anthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid (AQS) and 1,2-benzoquinone-3,5-disulfonic acid (BQDS) as the electrolytes. The membrane is coated with Vulcan carbon using an ultrasonic spray technique allowing for higher current density. The polarization curve of this system has shown that the RFB with organic AQS and BQDS has impressive amount of energy density, and can deliver the maximum current density up to 45 mA/cm 2 and the maximum power density up to 4 mW/cm 2 . At 5 mA/cm 2 current density, the power delivery has the current efficiency and energy efficiency of 96% and 48%, respectively.

While protecting intact or semi-intact biodiverse forest is paramount, improving biodiversity value within the 11.4 million hectares of existing rubber plantations could offer important conservation benefits, if yields are also maintained. Some farmers practice agroforestry with high-yielding clonal rubber varieties to increase and diversify incomes. Here, we ask whether such rubber agroforestry improves biodiversity value or affects rubber yields relative to monoculture. We surveyed birds, fruit-feeding butterflies and reptiles in 25 monocultural and 39 agroforest smallholder rubber plots in Thailand, the world’s biggest rubber producer. Management and vegetation structure data were collected from each plot, and landscape composition around plots was quantified. Rubber yield data were collected for a separate set of 34 monocultural and 47 agroforest rubber plots in the same region. Reported rubber yields did not differ between agroforests and monocultures, meaning adoption of agroforestry in this context should not increase land demand for natural rubber. Butterfly richness was greater in agroforests, where richness increased with greater natural forest extent in the landscape. Bird and reptile richness were similar between agroforests and monocultures, but bird richness increased with the height of herbaceous vegetation inside rubber plots. Species composition of butterflies differed between agroforests and monocultures, and in response to natural forest extent, while bird composition was influenced by herbaceous vegetation height within plots, the density of non-rubber trees within plots (representing agroforestry complexity), and natural forest extent in the landscape. Reptile composition was influenced by canopy cover and open habitat extent in the landscape. Conservation priority and forest-dependent birds were not supported within rubber. Synthesis and applications. Rubber agroforestry using clonal varieties provides modest biodiversity benefits relative to monocultures, without compromising yields. Agroforests may also generate ecosystem service and livelihood benefits. Management of monocultural rubber production to increase inter-row vegetation height and complexity may further benefit biodiversity. However, biodiversity losses from encroachment of rubber onto forests will not be offset by rubber agroforestry or rubber plot management. This evidence is important for developing guidelines around biodiversity-friendly rubber and sustainable supply chains, and for farmers interested in diversifying rubber production. The accompanying ReadMe.txt file explains the contents of each .csv file, including definitions of each column. Sampling protocols are outlined in the paper in Journal of Applied Ecology.

Robinson;AbstractBackgroundBinge alcohol exposure during adolescence results in long‐lasting alterations in the brain and behavior. For example, adolescent intermittent ethanol (AIE) exposure in rodents results in long‐term loss of functional connectivity among prefrontal cortex (PFC) and striatal regions as well as a variety of neurochemical, molecular, and epigenetic alterations. Interneurons in the PFC and striatum play critical roles in behavioral flexibility and functional connectivity. For example, parvalbumin (PV) interneurons are known to contribute to neural synchrony and cholinergic interneurons contribute to strategy selection. Furthermore, extracellular perineuronal nets (PNNs) that surround some interneurons, particularly PV+ interneurons, further regulate cellular plasticity. The effect of AIE exposure on the expression of these markers within the PFC is not well understood.MethodsThe present study tested the hypothesis that AIE exposure reduces the expression of PV+ and choline acetyltransferase (ChAT)+ interneurons in the adult PFC and striatum and increases the related expression of PNNs (marked by binding of Wisteria floribunda agglutinin lectin) in adulthood. Male rats were exposed to AIE (5 g/kg/day, 2‐days‐on/2‐days‐off, i.e., P25 to P54) or water (CON), and brain tissue was harvested in adulthood (>P80). Immunohistochemistry and co‐immunofluorescence were used to assess the expression of ChAT, PV, and PNNs within the adult PFC and striatum following AIE exposure.ResultsChAT and PV interneuron densities in the striatum and PFC were unchanged after AIE exposure. However, PNN density in the PFC of AIE‐exposed rats was greater than in CON rats. Moreover, significantly more PV neurons were surrounded by PNNs in AIE‐exposed subjects than controls in both PFC subregions assessed: orbitofrontal cortex (CON = 34%; AIE = 40%) and medial PFC (CON = 10%; AIE = 14%).ConclusionsThese findings indicate that, following AIE exposure, PV interneuron expression in the adult PFC and striatum is unaltered, while PNNs surrounding these neurons are increased. This increase in PNNs may restrict the plasticity of the ensheathed neurons, thereby contributing to impaired microcircuitry in frontostriatal connectivity and related behavioral impairments.

The impacts of increasing natural climate disasters are threatening food security in the Asia-Pacific region. Rice is Asia’s most important staple food. Climate variability and change directly impact rice production, through changes in rainfall, temperature and CO2 concentrations. The key for sustainable rice crop is water management. Adaptation can occur through shifts of cropping to higher latitudes and can profit from river systems (via irrigation) so far not considered. New opportunities arise to produce more than one crop per year in cooler areas. Asian wheat production in 2005 represents about 43 % of the global total. Changes in agronomic practices, such as earlier plant dates and cultivar substitution will be required. Fisheries play a crucial role in providing food security with the contribution of fish to dietary animal protein being very high in the region – up to 90 % in small island developing states (SIDS). With the warming of the Pacific and Indian Oceans and increased acidification, marine ecosystems are presently under stress. Despite these trends, maintaining or enhancing food production from the sea is critical. However, future sustainability must be maintained whilst also securing biodiversity conservation. Improved fisheries management to address the existing non-climate threats remains paramount in the Indian and Pacific Oceans with sustainable management regimes being established. Climate-related impacts are expected to increase in magnitude over the coming decades, thus preliminary adaptation to climate change is valuable.

Srisupha;SF 6 self blast circuit breakers use the flow back of high pressure gas from the expansion chamber, which is generated by ablation of a PTFE-nozzle and the arc radiation to interrupt the arc. The interruption capability of SF 6 self blast circuit breakers depends on the pressure inside the switching chamber at current zero. During each fault current interruption, the arc radiation induces contact and nozzle ablation. The nozzle widening causes reduction of the pressure build-up and thus results in the reduction of the interruption capability. The objective of this work is to use a non-invasive method to assess the degree of nozzle ablation without opening the interrupter and to estimate the degradation of the interruption capability. In this work, the frequency response analysis is applied to detect the change in capacitance due to the change of the geometry inside the circuit breaker interrupter.

Herein, we propose confidence intervals for the difference between the coefficients of variation of Weibull distributions constructed using the concepts of the generalized confidence interval (GCI), Bayesian methods, the method of variance estimates recovery (MOVER) based on Hendricks and Robey’s confidence interval, a percentile bootstrap method, and a bootstrap method with standard errors. To analyze their performances, their coverage probabilities and expected lengths were evaluated via Monte Carlo simulation. The simulation results indicate that the coverage probabilities of GCI were greater than or sometimes close to the nominal confidence level. However, when the Weibull shape parameter was small, the Bayesian- highest posterior density interval was preferable. All of the proposed confidence intervals were applied to wind speed data measured at 90-meter wind energy potential stations at various regions in Thailand.

A multivariate analysis of dimensions of problem drinking and their stability across time is conducted through a series of confirmatory factor analyses (as opposed to exploratory factor analyses used in previous studies), using self-report data from a longitudinal sample of adolescents and youth. Analyses are performed separately by age and gender. Results indicate that traditional measures of problem drinking represent at least two distinct dimensions--intensity of use and use-related problems--rather than a unitary construct for adolescent males and females. The results also suggest that dimensions of problem drinking remain relatively stable from 15 to 21 years of age, except that alcohol-related problems are unstable for males from 15 to 18 years of age.

ZnTe:Cu films were deposited on the back surface of the CdTe layer presenting as ohmic back contact. The substrate was soda lime glass coated with ITO films by rf magnetron sputtering serving as the transparent front contact. A thin layer of CdS with thickness about 80nm was applied by chemical bath deposition. Close-spaced sublimation of the CdTe films was accomplished by placing a CdTe source in a close proximity (6mm) to the substrate in vacuum chamber with low pressure about 3×10-2 mbar. The source was heated to 550 ∘C and the substrate to 450 ∘C. This arrangement causes Cd and Te to sublime from source and diffuse to the substrate. The fabricated cells were investigated using current-voltage (I-V) in the temperature range 20-300K under a standard AM1.5 illumination in order to define the transport mechanism in the heterojunction. Tunnelling enhanced interface recombination has been found to dominate carrier transport mechanism in the junction at all investigated temperatures.

The transport sector is the largest energy-consuming sector in Thailand, followed by the industrial and residential sectors, respectively. In order to reduce both imported energy and environmental emissions, energy conservation programs would be implemented. This paper forecasts the growth in energy demand and corresponding emissions to the year 2020 for those three sectors by using a model based on the end-use approach. The energy savings from the energy conservation strategies, such as energy efficiency improvement and energy demand management, are assessed and also the implications on electricity generation expansion planning are examined. The integrated resource planning (IRP) model is used to find the least-cost electricity generation expansion plans. Energy conservation options, including energy efficiency improvement programs, are introduced in the residential and industrial sectors. Public transportation and engine technology improvements are introduced in the transport sector. The effects of energy conservation options are analyzed using a scenario-based approach. The results of analysis reveal that the improvement of public transportation can reduce future energy requirements and CO2 emissions in 2020 by 635 thousand ton of oil equivalent (toe) and 2024 thousand ton of CO2 equivalent, respectively. If all options are simultaneously implemented, the potential of energy savings and CO2 mitigation in 2020 are estimated to be 1240 thousand toe and 3622 thousand ton of CO2 equivalent, respectively.

The installation of this type of power source usually requires a secondary power source, often the energy storage system such as battery to smoothen power output over time. In this article, we introduce, an alternative energy storage system, an organic-electrolyte redox flow battery (RFB), which uses anthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid (AQS) and 1,2-benzoquinone-3,5-disulfonic acid (BQDS) as the electrolytes. The membrane is coated with Vulcan carbon using an ultrasonic spray technique allowing for higher current density. The polarization curve of this system has shown that the RFB with organic AQS and BQDS has impressive amount of energy density, and can deliver the maximum current density up to 45 mA/cm 2 and the maximum power density up to 4 mW/cm 2 . At 5 mA/cm 2 current density, the power delivery has the current efficiency and energy efficiency of 96% and 48%, respectively.

While protecting intact or semi-intact biodiverse forest is paramount, improving biodiversity value within the 11.4 million hectares of existing rubber plantations could offer important conservation benefits, if yields are also maintained. Some farmers practice agroforestry with high-yielding clonal rubber varieties to increase and diversify incomes. Here, we ask whether such rubber agroforestry improves biodiversity value or affects rubber yields relative to monoculture. We surveyed birds, fruit-feeding butterflies and reptiles in 25 monocultural and 39 agroforest smallholder rubber plots in Thailand, the world’s biggest rubber producer. Management and vegetation structure data were collected from each plot, and landscape composition around plots was quantified. Rubber yield data were collected for a separate set of 34 monocultural and 47 agroforest rubber plots in the same region. Reported rubber yields did not differ between agroforests and monocultures, meaning adoption of agroforestry in this context should not increase land demand for natural rubber. Butterfly richness was greater in agroforests, where richness increased with greater natural forest extent in the landscape. Bird and reptile richness were similar between agroforests and monocultures, but bird richness increased with the height of herbaceous vegetation inside rubber plots. Species composition of butterflies differed between agroforests and monocultures, and in response to natural forest extent, while bird composition was influenced by herbaceous vegetation height within plots, the density of non-rubber trees within plots (representing agroforestry complexity), and natural forest extent in the landscape. Reptile composition was influenced by canopy cover and open habitat extent in the landscape. Conservation priority and forest-dependent birds were not supported within rubber. Synthesis and applications. Rubber agroforestry using clonal varieties provides modest biodiversity benefits relative to monocultures, without compromising yields. Agroforests may also generate ecosystem service and livelihood benefits. Management of monocultural rubber production to increase inter-row vegetation height and complexity may further benefit biodiversity. However, biodiversity losses from encroachment of rubber onto forests will not be offset by rubber agroforestry or rubber plot management. This evidence is important for developing guidelines around biodiversity-friendly rubber and sustainable supply chains, and for farmers interested in diversifying rubber production. For example, adolescent intermittent ethanol (AIE) exposure in rodents results in long‐term loss of functional connectivity among prefrontal cortex (PFC) and striatal regions as well as a variety of neurochemical, molecular, and epigenetic alterations. Interneurons in the PFC and striatum play critical roles in behavioral flexibility and functional connectivity. For example, parvalbumin (PV) interneurons are known to contribute to neural synchrony and cholinergic interneurons contribute to strategy selection. Furthermore, extracellular perineuronal nets (PNNs) that surround some interneurons, particularly PV+ interneurons, further regulate cellular plasticity. The effect of AIE exposure on the expression of these markers within the PFC is not well understood.MethodsThe present study tested the hypothesis that AIE exposure reduces the expression of PV+ and choline acetyltransferase (ChAT)+ interneurons in the adult PFC and striatum and increases the related expression of PNNs (marked by binding of Wisteria floribunda agglutinin lectin) in adulthood. Male rats were exposed to AIE (5 g/kg/day, 2‐days‐on/2‐days‐off, i.e., P25 to P54) or water (CON), and brain tissue was harvested in adulthood (>P80). Immunohistochemistry and co‐immunofluorescence were used to assess the expression of ChAT, PV, and PNNs within the adult PFC and striatum following AIE exposure.ResultsChAT and PV interneuron densities in the striatum and PFC were unchanged after AIE exposure. However, PNN density in the PFC of AIE‐exposed rats was greater than in CON rats. Moreover, significantly more PV neurons were surrounded by PNNs in AIE‐exposed subjects than controls in both PFC subregions assessed: orbitofrontal cortex (CON = 34%; AIE = 40%) and medial PFC (CON = 10%; AIE = 14%).ConclusionsThese findings indicate that, following AIE exposure, PV interneuron expression in the adult PFC and striatum is unaltered, while PNNs surrounding these neurons are increased. This increase in PNNs may restrict the plasticity of the ensheathed neurons, thereby contributing to impaired microcircuitry in frontostriatal connectivity and related behavioral impairments.

The impacts of increasing natural climate disasters are threatening food security in the Asia-Pacific region. Rice is Asia’s most important staple food. Climate variability and change directly impact rice production, through changes in rainfall, temperature and CO2 concentrations. The key for sustainable rice crop is water management. Adaptation can occur through shifts of cropping to higher latitudes and can profit from river systems (via irrigation) so far not considered. New opportunities arise to produce more than one crop per year in cooler areas. Asian wheat production in 2005 represents about 43 % of the global total. Changes in agronomic practices, such as earlier plant dates and cultivar substitution will be required. Fisheries play a crucial role in providing food security with the contribution of fish to dietary animal protein being very high in the region – up to 90 % in small island developing states (SIDS). With the warming of the Pacific and Indian Oceans and increased acidification, marine ecosystems are presently under stress. Despite these trends, maintaining or enhancing food production from the sea is critical. However, future sustainability must be maintained whilst also securing biodiversity conservation. Improved fisheries management to address the existing non-climate threats remains paramount in the Indian and Pacific Oceans with sustainable management regimes being established. Climate-related impacts are expected to increase in magnitude over the coming decades, thus preliminary adaptation to climate change is valuable.

Srisupha;SF 6 self blast circuit breakers use the flow back of high pressure gas from the expansion chamber, which is generated by ablation of a PTFE-nozzle and the arc radiation to interrupt the arc. The interruption capability of SF 6 self blast circuit breakers depends on the pressure inside the switching chamber at current zero. During each fault current interruption, the arc radiation induces contact and nozzle ablation. The nozzle widening causes reduction of the pressure build-up and thus results in the reduction of the interruption capability. The objective of this work is to use a non-invasive method to assess the degree of nozzle ablation without opening the interrupter and to estimate the degradation of the interruption capability. In this work, the frequency response analysis is applied to detect the change in capacitance due to the change of the geometry inside the circuit breaker interrupter.

Wind energy is an important renewable energy source for generating electricity that has the potential to replace fossil fuels. Herein, we propose confidence intervals for the difference between the coefficients of variation of Weibull distributions constructed using the concepts of the generalized confidence interval (GCI), Bayesian methods, the method of variance estimates recovery (MOVER) based on Hendricks and Robey’s confidence interval, a percentile bootstrap method, and a bootstrap method with standard errors. To analyze their performances, their coverage probabilities and expected lengths were evaluated via Monte Carlo simulation. The simulation results indicate that the coverage probabilities of GCI were greater than or sometimes close to the nominal confidence level. However, when the Weibull shape parameter was small, the Bayesian- highest posterior density interval was preferable. All of the proposed confidence intervals were applied to wind speed data measured at 90-meter wind energy potential stations at various regions in Thailand.

A multivariate analysis of dimensions of problem drinking and their stability across time is conducted through a series of confirmatory factor analyses (as opposed to exploratory factor analyses used in previous studies), using self-report data from a longitudinal sample of adolescents and youth. Analyses are performed separately by age and gender. Results indicate that traditional measures of problem drinking represent at least two distinct dimensions--intensity of use and use-related problems--rather than a unitary construct for adolescent males and females. The results also suggest that dimensions of problem drinking remain relatively stable from 15 to 21 years of age, except that alcohol-related problems are unstable for males from 15 to 18 years of age.
