Various ML techniques were used to create a series of case studies, where their accuracy and computational costs were compared, and behavior patterns in different problem types were analyzed. The goal is to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of ML techniques in fluid mechanics and to contribute to the field by comparing them with traditional methods. Case studies were also conducted using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and the results were compared with those from ML techniques in terms of accuracy and computational cost. For Case 1, after optimizing relevant parameters, the Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Random Forest (RF), and Support Vector Machine (SVM) models all achieved an R² value above 0.9. However, in Case 2, only the ANN method surpassed this threshold, likely due to the limited data available. In Case 3, all models except for Linear Regression (LR) demonstrated predictive abilities above the 0.9 threshold after parameter optimization. The LR method was found to have low applicability to fluid mechanics problems, while SVM and ANN methods proved to be particularly effective tools after grid search optimization.

Abstract The dynamics of isolated-photon plus two-jet production in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV are studied with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1. Cross sections are measured as functions of a variety of observables, including angular correlations and invariant masses of the objects in the final state, γ + jet + jet. Measurements are also performed in phase-space regions enriched in each of the two underlying physical mechanisms, namely direct and fragmentation processes. The measurements cover the range of photon (jet) transverse momenta from 150 GeV (100 GeV) to 2 TeV. The tree-level plus parton-shower predictions from Sherpa and Pythia as well as the next-to-leading-order QCD predictions from Sherpa are compared with the measurements. The next-to-leading-order QCD predictions describe the data adequately in shape and normalisation except for regions of phase space such as those with high values of the invariant mass or rapidity separation of the two jets, where the predictions overestimate the data.

Although the water was brought from other basins for restoration, observed temporal human-induced impacts and the current drought have damaged the wetland qualities of the Marshes. In this study, the temporal change of the Marshes and the human-induced effects are analyzed. Spatiotemporal surface water area (1984-2020) and whole land use changes (1990-2018) are evaluated with the temporal change of the Human Development, Global Terrestrial Human Footprint, and Ecological Footprint Indexes. The land use changes since 1990 reveal how the wetland has lost its functions. Especially between 1990-2000, the water area largely shifted into the sandy and swampy areas. In the swampy areas between 1990-2000, natural pasture formation was also observed in 2000. In addition, it is found that mining fields were constructed in the region between 1990-2000, albeit relatively small. According to the study, the most remarkable change occurred in the 1990-2000 period, considering the entire study timeline (1990-2018). In this period, there was also a transformation into irrigated agricultural lands around the national park. Moreover, there was a transformation from orchards and pasture areas to irrigated agricultural areas. When the changes in the wetland are evaluated with the human footprint data for 1993 and 2009, it was found that human impact was more substantial, especially in 1993 compared to 2009. This is in line with the continuous increase in HDI values between 1990 (0.54) and 2018 (0.81). Besides, the ecological footprint has increased since 1983. After 1983, the biocapacity in the region has steadily decreased to negative values.

Extensive experimental range is provided for a comprehensive analysis; which covers different binary mixing ratios (H:P, M:H and P:M = 1:1, 1:4 and 4:1) and inclination angles (0° and 90°). The filling ratio is kept constant as 50 %. H, P and M represent hexane, pentane and methanol, respectively. Results of pure fluids are also compared to binary ones, and all the processes are qualitatively analyzed via high speed visualization. It is concluded that methanol is the best choice among pure fluids; however, results completely changed when two fluids are mixed. Strongly depending on mixing ratio, immiscible binary mixtures show significantly better thermal performance compared to both the miscible binary one (H:P) and pure fluids. In this regard, optimum thermal characteristics are obtained with immiscible mixture of P:M = 1:1. On the other hand, increasing volume fraction of methanol in pentane-methanol mixture adversely affects thermal characteristics; and even, the poorest thermal performance is presented by the mixture of P:M = 1:4. Bubble dynamics and relevant flow patterns play critical role on heat transport phenomenon.

AbstractDensity is one of the most important fuel properties influencing the injection, spray, and combustion characteristics. Since a number of articles have recently been performed investigating the effects of biodiesel–diesel–alcohol ternary blends on combustion characteristics and exhaust emissions, the reliable density data and regression models for the ternary blends become more important in developing accurate spray, combustion and emission models. However, there is lack of studies which focus on (a) the measurement of densities of ternary blends including higher alcohols over wide alcohol blending ratio at different temperatures, (b) development of one‐dimensional regression models to predict densities of ternary blends, and (c) comparison of predictive capabilities of models with artificial neural networks (ANNs). Therefore, in this article, to eliminate the lack of such studies in the existing literature, waste cooking oil biodiesel was produced, and it was mixed with diesel fuel and several alcohols to prepare ternary blends. The density measurements of ternary blends were performed under various temperatures (278.15 K−368.15 K). The exponential equation which can be used in spray or combustion model was derived by fitting the density data. The predictive capability of the exponential model was compared with the linear model and ANN using different density data of ternary blends to determine the best‐fit correlation. According to results, ANN is the most suitable one to estimate density; however, the exponential model is also thought to be an alternative to ANN.

Suitability evaluation of a location for solar power generation plant installation requires long-term measurements and calculations. Since the energy production values and project power of solar power plant (SPP) directly affect the return period of the project cost. It is of considerable importance to make the calculations correctly. The effects of the DC/AC ratio, determining in an inverter selection, is a crucial parameter in determining the sizing of SPP. In this study, a model was used to find the closest estimation values. Irradiance values coming to SPP in Balıkesir/Turkey were simulated and DC energy at the inverter input was calculated. The results obtained from the calculation were compared with actual production values. To determine the optimum DC/AC ratio of the existing installed SPP system, calculations were made with two different methods. Energy production estimation values are calculated for different angles and DC/AC rated inverters. It is vital that the SPP consists of two groups with different directions and the same capacities in terms of comparing the accuracy of the calculation. Energy production calculations, including the hourly meteorological data and catalog values of the system, in the developed model are desired to provide the closest prediction values for energy production of the real system. The optimum DC/AC ratio also varies depending on the coordinates, direction and angle of the PV system. As a result, it has been observed that the direction and location of the PV system affect the selection of inverter power. Thus, it is important to calculate this ratio for efficient working conditions of each system. Optimal values of ratios and efficiencies for Groups 1 and 2 are calculated as 1.28, 1.35, 91.55% and 90.62%, respectively.

Today, there are several important environmental problems in metropolitan cities that they were listed below: • Environmental pollution • Global warming • Urban heat island effect Energy efficient systems consist of minimizing heat losses and maximizing heat gains to use sun energy, to provide natural ventilation and benefit from daylight as possible in a built environment. Façades are one of the most efficient building elements in order to supply energy efficiency in process of building design. For this aim, a holistic approach can be followed to integrate sustainable system and technologies with façade design. A green façade, where foliage covers the external wall of a building, is considered to be a sustainable solution. This study aims to assess the energy performance of vertical green systems for different climatic regions of Turkey. The cities of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir in which office buildings are located densely were selected for the energy analyses. The results of the study were listed below; • Heating loads decrease in Izmir, Istanbul and Ankara. Cooling loads, however, increase for all selected cities because soil and plant layers store heat which is gained sun s energy, and vertical green systems are air-tightness and cause lack of natural ventilation. • Total energy consumptions reduce in the cities of Ankara, Izmir and Istanbul, respectively. • The simulation results show that the most efficient case in terms of energy efficiency is the using of plant on all orientations. In this study, the removal of a cationic dye, basic red 18, used in the textile industry with montmorillonite was investigated as a function of initial dye concentration, agitation speed, ionic strength, adsorbent dosage, pH and temperature. Adsorption process was attained to the equilibrium within 30 minutes. The adsorption capacity of basic red 18 increased with increasing ionic strength, initial dye concentration, pH, agitation speed, and temperature, but decreased with increasing adsorbent dosage. The experimental data were analyzed by Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, Elovich and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherms, and it was found that the isotherm data were reasonably correlated by Freundlich isotherm. Pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, Elovich kinetic equations and intraparticle diffusion model were used to examine the experimental data of different initial conditions. It was found that the pseudo-second order kinetic equation described the data of dye adsorption onto nnontmorillonite very well. Furthermore, for the removal of basic red 18, a semi-empirical model was established. Thermodynamic analysis was carried out for basic red 18 onto montmorillonite. It was found that the adsorption processes were endothermic in nature. The values of E-a, Delta H*, Delta S* and Delta G* at 293 K for basic red 18 adsorption on clay were calculated as 27.635 kJ mol(-1), 25.041kJ mol(-1), -0.090 kJ mal K-1 and 51.412 kJ mol(-1), respectively. The results indicated that montmorillonite could be employed as an alternative to commercial adsorbents in wastewater treatment for the removal of color and dyes. Fil, Baybars Ali (Balikesir Author)
