The future of the world is a topic that continues to generate debate and intrigue across generations, due to uncertainties and evolving concerns. As the industrial revolution, technological advancements, and urbanization have progressed, numerous challenges have arisen.Environmental pollution, income inequality at national and international levels, wars, and social conflicts all serve to underscore the significance of addressing future expectations. As a result, environmental, social, and economic sustainability has emerged as a pressing issue. In response, various economic and political calls have stressed the importance of sustainability. This study examines the relationship between sustainability and quality costs using a case example and explores a long-term benefitcost analysis. It is suggested that, although quality costs may be higher in the short term, they yield greater benefits in the long run, thereby contributing to sustainable development.

Text in English ; Abstract: English and Turkish Includes bibliographical references (leaves 82-88) xii, 100 leaves This study delves into the impact of sustainability practices on brand loyalty, particularly within the fast-fashion industry. It addresses the growing consumer awareness of how fast-fashion brands manage their environmental and ethical responsibilities and how such practices influence consumer loyalty. The research posits that effective communication of sustainability initiatives via social media can significantly enhance consumer trust, satisfaction, and engagement, thereby fostering greater brand loyalty. However, the challenge lies in managing these digital platforms to prevent the dissemination of content that could damage the brand's reputation. Utilizing a quantitative research method, a cross-sectional survey was distributed across multiple social media channels to analyze the interconnections between sustainability practices and their effect on brand loyalty, alongside variables such as satisfaction, trust, and engagement. The analysis, conducted using SPSS, employed various statistical tools and demonstrated a positive link between transparent sustainability practices and brand loyalty. The findings reinforce the importance of sustainability in strengthening brand loyalty in the fast-fashion industry. This study, while providing valuable insights, acknowledges limitations due to its specific demographic focus and the concentration on a single industry sector. The structural engineering profession has been developed significantly over the last decades as new systems, design methods, and other integrated approaches come to the field. From the 1950s and 60s onwards, cities throughout the world have expanded rapidly, high rise buildings increased, and cities expanded their occupied areas; in such circumstances, serious demand for sustainable development approaches can be observed, such as needs for setting some standards applicable in the local and global level. An integrated approach can help us properly address these debated issues. Experts from the sustainability field point out that materials and energy resources are limited, and the construction sector consumes a large portion of these remaining resources unquestionably. These points should be the main motivation for insisting on sustainable development approaches. However, it is a well-known fact that structural design engineers do not have a fundamental role in sustainable construction topics yet. Many approaches mainly focus on some specific topics of sustainability like environment and economy, whilst there is a need for an integrated approach to maintain a balance between all components of sustainability. There are many challenges that structural engineers face now a day, but the global environmental challenge is the most prominent of them. Within the scope of this thesis, it is aimed to determine and define how buildings in seismic regions affect sustainability by comparing steel and reinforced concrete frame structures. This comparison will be made using Athena Impact Estimator and SAP2000 by taking into account the environmental effects for the entire life cycle of reinforced concrete and steel frames in seismic regions.

This study proposes a novel energy management strategy for residential neighborhoods that enables peer-to-peer energy transactions among households without the need for energy storage or distributed generation. The proposed strategy is based on a Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) optimization model that minimizes the overall cost per household, including energy consumption cost, flexibility procurement cost, flexibility selling gain, and penalty cost caused by exceeding the limits. The strategy aims to optimize the energy consumption and production patterns of households with just inverter-based air conditioner loads, while also ensuring that the overall load limit for the neighborhood is not exceeded during certain periods. The results of the MILP-based optimization model demonstrate that the proposed strategy can significantly reduce the overall cost per household, providing a more efficient and costeffective energy system for residential neighborhoods. The strategy utilizes a flexible energy trading platform, with a pricing mechanism designed to incentivize households to optimize their energy consumption and production patterns and support the transition to a low-carbon energy future.

In this thesis study, the purpose is to investigate the determinants that affect the intention of using RVC (Robotic Vacuum Cleaner) within the context of UTAUT2 (Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use Technology) Venkatesh et al. (2012) which is an extension of the original model Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) (Venkatesh et al., 2003) and Stimulus Organism Response Model (SOR) developed by Houston and Rothschild (1977). Brand image as a signaling has been determined as stimulus, perceived value which includes perceived benefit and perceived risk have been determined under organism. Kotler (2001) defines the brand image as “the set of impressions, beliefs and ideas that a person holds about an object\" (p. 273) while Hsieh, Pan and Setiono (2004) explain as “a successful brand image allows consumers to recognize the needs that the brand satisfies and to distinguish the brand from its competitors and increases the probability that consumers will purchase the brand\" (p. 252). Intention to use which is being evaluated under Response in SOR model. As a result of the study, it is aimed to show the effects of brand image and perceived value that includes perceived benefit and perceived risks on the field of financial and performance on the intention to accept RVC (Robotic Vacuum Cleaner) technology.

Implementing various modifications in engines has the potential to reduce emissions, however, these adjustments can lead to technical difficulties and inefficiencies in terms of cost. In this case, as an alternative solution, the use of diesel fuel (DF), biodiesel (B100), nanoparticle and light or heavy alcohol mixtures can be considered; these fuels can help engines produce less polluting emissions. As it is known, the main reason why internal combustion engines emit emissions such as particulate matter, hydrocarbon (HC), and carbon monoxide (CO) into the atmosphere is incomplete combustion of the fuel. The high oxygen content of fuels such as biodiesel and alcohol can solve these combustion problems. The focus of this study is a detailed investigation of the effect on emissions of mixtures of DF, B100 derived from safflower seed oil with a low Free Fatty Acid (%FFAs) value, and n-decanol. Emission values obtained for DF, B100, 50%/50% volume ratio diesel/biodiesel (DF50B50), 50%/50% volume ratio diesel/n-decanol (DF50DE50), 50%/25%/25% volume ratio diesel/biodiesel/n-decanol (DF50B25DE25), Emission values of 50%/35%/15% diesel/biodiesel/n-decanol (DF50B35DE15) and 50%/45%/5% diesel/biodiesel/n-decanol (DF50B45DE5) blends were compared. Among these blends, compared to DF at maximum load, DF50B50, DF50DE50, DF50B25DE25, DF50B35DE15, and DF50B45DE5 fuels reduced smoke opacity (SO) by 80.17%, 86.78%, 54.55%, 21.49%, and increased it by 15.70%, respectively. Under the same load conditions, compared to DF, NOx emissions were reduced by 19.18%, 21.38%, 17.30%, increased by 34.91%, and reduced by 15.72% respectively with DF50B50, DF50DE50, DF50B25DE25, DF50B35DE15, and DF50B45DE5 fuels. Under the same load conditions, CO emissions were also reduced by 23.08%, 15.38%, 16.15%, increased by 40%, and reduced by 16.92% respectively with DF50B50, DF50DE50, DF50B25DE25, DF50B35DE15, and DF50B45DE5 fuels.

Achieving food security and sustainable food production is a major challenge for plant scientists. To accomplish this, the global food production needs not only to be remarkably boosted, but it has to be achieved under harsh environmental conditions. Moreover, the climate change scenarios estimate an enhanced pressure on crop yields in the upcoming decades. C-4 photosynthesis is highly promising to meet these challenges to global food production. Under current CO2 levels, C-4 photosynthesis is more efficient than C-3 photosynthesis, but more data is needed to map out its response under elevated CO2 (eCO(2)) conditions. Growing evidence also suggests that C-4 photosynthesis could be more efficient in water use under eCO(2). Production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is an inevitable consequence of oxygenic photosynthesis and is also one of the first responses to environmental stresses. C-3 and C-4 plants have different ROS profiles, mainly because of reduced photorespiration in the latter. Moreover, the effects of eCO(2) on C-3 and especially C-4 plants remain poorly understood. Since C-3 and C-4 plants have different ROS production patterns, it is likely that ROS signalling and downstream effects on growth and development differ between C-3 and C-4 plants, which may result in different response to eCO(2). This would also be reflected in reproductive success and crop yields. Here we evaluate the recent literature on C-3 and C-4 plant responses to climate change conditions from the abiotic stress tolerance and food security perspectives, with redox connections. Current body of knowledge suggests engineering C-4 photosynthesis into major crops to be a viable way to increase yield, but such attempts have failed because of a lack of basic knowledge in this area. Therefore, this Article also aims to fill this gap from the redox perspective. The research on C4 photosynthesis of the authors (to I.T., R.O. and B.U.) were supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) (110 T289, 114Z991) and Ege University Scientific Research Grant (2011/BIL/009). S.;Global warming, climate change, air pollution, and harmful exhaust emissions for human health are highly associated with the burning of petroleum fuels at a huge level. In the beginning, biodiesel fuels have been introduced as a promising alternative fuel to mitigate these problems. However, poor atomization, low energy content, high viscosity, and density of biodiesels are the main obstacles to the frequent usage of biodiesel fuels in diesel engines. That is because biodiesel fuels in CI engines have generally resulted in higher fuel consumption, lower thermal efficiency, and higher NOx emission. On the other hand, most fuel researchers recently announced that the addition of nanoparticles in biodiesel blends has led to making biodiesels attractive again by significantly improving their poor biodiesel properties such as thermophysical properties, calorific value, heat transfer rate, evaporation rate, etc. From this point of view, many published papers in the area demonstrated that the addition of nanoparticles in biodiesel blended fuels has simultaneously provided fewer exhaust emissions, better performance, and combustion characteristics thanks to the high catalyst effect of nanoparticles. In the conclusion, the present review paper clearly announced that the addition of nanoparticles is a very strong way to re-improving the worsened engine combustion, performance, and emission characteristics of biodiesel-diesel blends. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University, PSAU: PSAU/2023/R/1444 This study is supported via funding from “Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University project number (PSAU/2023/R/1444)”.
