This deliverable summarizes the overall progress of the project during the first reporting period, which covers the project execution from the beginning to month M18. After describing the overall objectives of the project, the deliverable presents the objective of each work package, paying special attention to the main results expected and obtained from them. The progress in WP1, of crosscutting nature, is quantified at 38%. Regarding the design technical work packages, WP2 is finished, while progress in WP3 & WP4 is 90%, and in WP5 is 85%. The work in WP6 and WP7, which focus on the testing and use-cases, respectively, is starting, so the progress is small (2%). Progress of WP8, which started at M6 and finalises at M46, is adequate (10%) despite the termination of participation of VERTECH (responsible partner) and the corresponding amendment. Finally, the progress of WP9, also of crosscutting nature, is 38%. The status of the deliverables is good. Some of them have been merged and/or slightly delayed with the approval of the Project Officer. The deliverable also analyses the project impact up to the moment, paying special attention to the identified Key Exploitable Results (three up to the moment) and the dissemination activities (7 technical contributions and 16 non-technical ones). The performance of the website and social media is also commented upon. Afterwards, the use of resources is presented. Workload in terms of person-month shows, overall, a good agreement with the estimations in the Grant Agreement. This agreement is also found in the use of financial resources related to the personnel costs. Other costs are still low due, on the one side, to the pandemic situation with travel restrictions and, on the other hand, to the fact that activities related to the construction and commissioning of components have not started yet. Finally, the main deviations are commented upon. They include both deviations in activities within the tasks and in the use of resources.

This process involves communication and consulting with stakeholders as well as monitoring and reviewing the risks and factors modifying the risks. This live document serves as a guide to risk management within the context of the ASTEP project and includes the inputs of the risk analysis, which have been identified from the kick-off of the project to the present moment (M24). This analysis will be reviewed and updated periodically along the project development. One of the main risks, which is related to the risk management exercise, is that all partners follow the same path when using risk management terminology, so a glossary is included within the document. The risk management must be integrated in the project management process and also the internal and external rules, so it is important to analyse the already built framework. Although part of this framework was analysed in previous deliverables, some details that directly influence the risk management have been introduced again. The methodology proposed for the risk management is based on the ISO-31000, and it has been adapted to the consortium objectives and characteristics. The different stages, the relationship between these stages, the expected information and the ownership of the different tasks are described in the corresponding sections. Communication, consultation, monitoring and review are common activities for all the risk management stages and they have also been integrated within the procedures already established for the day-to-day working within the consortium. The methodology includes not only the monitor and assessment of risks as isolated entities but also the interaction among them, i.e. considering positive or negative effects that the combination of some risk can introduce. A register of the identified risks and the information related to the risk analysis and evaluation is created, which serves as the input for making decisions. A tool is generated to aid in the generation of this register, in which, part of the information is selected through drop down lists and the evaluation is automatically done. This register is accessible by all the partners and continuously updated by the risk owners and the Management Support Team. Some new risks, additional to those described in the Grant Agreement, have been identified and added to the register. All risks have been analysed in depth and evaluated. The corresponding relevant information has also been included in the register.

This includes the final system design and the requirements of the piping, heat transfer fluid and ancillary systems, sensors, pumps, heat exchangers and cooling lines. The accumulator will be installed in series with solar concentrator for both end-users. This configuration has been selected due to its easier control and lower actuation and measuring costs. Therminol 59 is selected as the HTF. First, synthetic oils have been selected instead of pressurized water or direct steam generation due to its application flexibility. Then, Therminol 59 was selected thanks to its higher pumpability at low temperatures, especially important for AMTP case. Regarding the piping, DN20 tubes are selected for most lines (except those within the SunDial concentrator affected by the HTF recirculation, which should be DN50) in order to limit pressure drop. This design would limit total line pressure drop to 2 bar. In what refers to the piping insulation, 101.6 mm fiberglass insulation is selected to limit heat losses. Heat losses might still be relatively high (2 kW) due to the small size of the prototype, but cost limitations led to this choice both in terms of material and thickness. The components to fill and drain the system are designed together with the expansion vessel. A pump with a manifold is used to initially fill the system or to drain it completely. The expansion vessel is sized to ensure pressure limitations in the system. The cooling circuit for MAN is also designed. This cooling is based on two absorption chillers (Purix A25 units), 3.1 kW each. The inertia tank sizing, the pumps and the sensors required for its control are detailed in the deliverable. The temperatures, pressures, and mass flows of the different sensors, valves, pumps and heat exchangers have been considered in order to select these systems. This selection has always been done with cost perspective since these elements might be relatively expensive for the system size. Finally, the requirements of the chiller-water line are given in terms of the required elements, including the absorption and compressor chillers to be used. This configuration with absorption chiller and compression chiller in series has been selected since no absorption chillers have been found for the system size. Nevertheless, a large application of ASTEP system would lead to larger absorption chillers directly fed by synthetic oil with lower cooling temperatures. Therefore, no compression chiller in series would be necessary and higher COP would be achieved.

The Gantt chart, the Pert chart and the Work Breakdown Structure of the project are presented, including the schedule of Tasks and Subtasks, their responsible partner and person, the related deliverables and their dependencies. The Project Management Plan is a fundamental guide for all the partners within the consortium, as project contributors can find important information for the day-to-day work related with the general structure of the project work plan and important information regarding the data flow and links between the different WPs, Tasks, Subtasks, Deliverables and Milestones. The report is divided into two parts. The first one focuses on the overall work plan, which is detailed at Task level. The aim of this part is to update and complete the information contained in the Grant Agreement, including the responsible partner and person for each Task, and to analyse the dependencies between Tasks, Deliverables and Milestones. The information is given by tables, an overall Gantt chart and an overall Pert chart. The second part of the report focuses on the detailed Work Breakdown Structure of the project, including the definition of Subtasks that meet the overall dependencies previously detected. Also, the responsible partner and person for each Subtask are defined, as well as the schedule for the Subtasks and the links between them. The information is presented by means of Tables, Gantt charts for the different Work-Packages and a comprehensive Pert Chart for the whole project. Therefore, the analysis of dependencies was done at two levels: one considering overall flows (first part of the report) and another one detailing links between Subtasks (second part). The analyses at the beginning of the project led to a schedule slightly different to that programmed in the Grant Agreement, with the aim of extending the time for critical activities like commissioning and decommissioning and enlarging testing activities. At M18, despite the deviations over the first PMP, the project was in the position of starting the second period with some additional time for the testing activities at laboratory without incurring in delays in the testing activities at the end-users sites. During the execution of the second reporting period (from M18 to M36) some issues in the supply chain and bad weather in one of the demo-sites have caused significant delays. A new timeline has been requested and approved by the EC with the signature of the amendment AMD-884411-22. The dates presented in this new release of the Project Management Plant has been accordingly updated.

This deliverable summarizes the overall progress of the project during the first reporting period, which covers the project execution from the beginning to month M18. After describing the overall objectives of the project, the deliverable presents the objective of each work package, paying special attention to the main results expected and obtained from them. The progress in WP1, of crosscutting nature, is quantified at 38%. Regarding the design technical work packages, WP2 is finished, while progress in WP3 & WP4 is 90%, and in WP5 is 85%. The work in WP6 and WP7, which focus on the testing and use-cases, respectively, is starting, so the progress is small (2%). Progress of WP8, which started at M6 and finalises at M46, is adequate (10%) despite the termination of participation of VERTECH (responsible partner) and the corresponding amendment. Finally, the progress of WP9, also of crosscutting nature, is 38%. The status of the deliverables is good. Some of them have been merged and/or slightly delayed with the approval of the Project Officer. The deliverable also analyses the project impact up to the moment, paying special attention to the identified Key Exploitable Results (three up to the moment) and the dissemination activities (7 technical contributions and 16 non-technical ones). The performance of the website and social media is also commented upon. Afterwards, the use of resources is presented. Workload in terms of person-month shows, overall, a good agreement with the estimations in the Grant Agreement. This agreement is also found in the use of financial resources related to the personnel costs. Other costs are still low due, on the one side, to the pandemic situation with travel restrictions and, on the other hand, to the fact that activities related to the construction and commissioning of components have not started yet. Finally, the main deviations are commented upon. They include both deviations in activities within the tasks and in the use of resources.

This process involves communication and consulting with stakeholders as well as monitoring and reviewing the risks and factors modifying the risks. This live document serves as a guide to risk management within the context of the ASTEP project and includes the inputs of the risk analysis, which have been identified from the kick-off of the project to the present moment (M24). This analysis will be reviewed and updated periodically along the project development. One of the main risks, which is related to the risk management exercise, is that all partners follow the same path when using risk management terminology, so a glossary is included within the document. The risk management must be integrated in the project management process and also the internal and external rules, so it is important to analyse the already built framework. Although part of this framework was analysed in previous deliverables, some details that directly influence the risk management have been introduced again. The methodology proposed for the risk management is based on the ISO-31000, and it has been adapted to the consortium objectives and characteristics. The different stages, the relationship between these stages, the expected information and the ownership of the different tasks are described in the corresponding sections. Communication, consultation, monitoring and review are common activities for all the risk management stages and they have also been integrated within the procedures already established for the day-to-day working within the consortium. The methodology includes not only the monitor and assessment of risks as isolated entities but also the interaction among them, i.e. considering positive or negative effects that the combination of some risk can introduce. A register of the identified risks and the information related to the risk analysis and evaluation is created, which serves as the input for making decisions. A tool is generated to aid in the generation of this register, in which, part of the information is selected through drop down lists and the evaluation is automatically done. This register is accessible by all the partners and continuously updated by the risk owners and the Management Support Team. Some new risks, additional to those described in the Grant Agreement, have been identified and added to the register. All risks have been analysed in depth and evaluated. The corresponding relevant information has also been included in the register.

This includes the final system design and the requirements of the piping, heat transfer fluid and ancillary systems, sensors, pumps, heat exchangers and cooling lines. The accumulator will be installed in series with solar concentrator for both end-users. This configuration has been selected due to its easier control and lower actuation and measuring costs. Therminol 59 is selected as the HTF. First, synthetic oils have been selected instead of pressurized water or direct steam generation due to its application flexibility. Then, Therminol 59 was selected thanks to its higher pumpability at low temperatures, especially important for AMTP case. Regarding the piping, DN20 tubes are selected for most lines (except those within the SunDial concentrator affected by the HTF recirculation, which should be DN50) in order to limit pressure drop. This design would limit total line pressure drop to 2 bar. In what refers to the piping insulation, 101.6 mm fiberglass insulation is selected to limit heat losses. Heat losses might still be relatively high (2 kW) due to the small size of the prototype, but cost limitations led to this choice both in terms of material and thickness. The components to fill and drain the system are designed together with the expansion vessel. A pump with a manifold is used to initially fill the system or to drain it completely. The expansion vessel is sized to ensure pressure limitations in the system. The cooling circuit for MAN is also designed. This cooling is based on two absorption chillers (Purix A25 units), 3.1 kW each. The inertia tank sizing, the pumps and the sensors required for its control are detailed in the deliverable. The temperatures, pressures, and mass flows of the different sensors, valves, pumps and heat exchangers have been considered in order to select these systems. This selection has always been done with cost perspective since these elements might be relatively expensive for the system size. Finally, the requirements of the chiller-water line are given in terms of the required elements, including the absorption and compressor chillers to be used. This configuration with absorption chiller and compression chiller in series has been selected since no absorption chillers have been found for the system size. Nevertheless, a large application of ASTEP system would lead to larger absorption chillers directly fed by synthetic oil with lower cooling temperatures. Therefore, no compression chiller in series would be necessary and higher COP would be achieved.

The Project Management Plan is a fundamental guide for all the partners within the consortium, as project contributors can find important information for the day-to-day work related with the general structure of the project work plan and important information regarding the data flow and links between the different WPs, Tasks, Subtasks, Deliverables and Milestones. The report is divided into two parts. The first one focuses on the overall work plan, which is detailed at Task level. The aim of this part is to update and complete the information contained in the Grant Agreement, including the responsible partner and person for each Task, and to analyse the dependencies between Tasks, Deliverables and Milestones. The information is given by tables, an overall Gantt chart and an overall Pert chart. The second part of the report focuses on the detailed Work Breakdown Structure of the project, including the definition of Subtasks that meet the overall dependencies previously detected. Also, the responsible partner and person for each Subtask are defined, as well as the schedule for the Subtasks and the links between them. The information is presented by means of Tables, Gantt charts for the different Work-Packages and a comprehensive Pert Chart for the whole project. Therefore, the analysis of dependencies was done at two levels: one considering overall flows (first part of the report) and another one detailing links between Subtasks (second part). The analyses at the beginning of the project led to a schedule slightly different to that programmed in the Grant Agreement, with the aim of extending the time for critical activities like commissioning and decommissioning and enlarging testing activities. At M18, despite the deviations over the first PMP, the project was in the position of starting the second period with some additional time for the testing activities at laboratory without incurring in delays in the testing activities at the end-users sites. During the execution of the second reporting period (from M18 to M36) some issues in the supply chain and bad weather in one of the demo-sites have caused significant delays. A new timeline has been requested and approved by the EC with the signature of the amendment AMD-884411-22. The dates presented in this new release of the Project Management Plant has been accordingly updated.
