description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article 2014Publisher:IFSA Publishing, S.L. Authors: Song Yunpu; Wang Wuteng; This paper simplifies the energy recovery process in the series hydraulic hybrid bus’ energy regeneration system into a process in which the main axle’s moment of inertia drives the secondary element variable delivery pump/motor and brings hydraulic oil from the oil tank to the accumulator. This process enables braking of the vehicle and also allows recovery of energy to the accumulator. Based on the flow equation for the secondary element variable delivery pump/motor and the torque equilibrium equation for its axle, the force equilibrium equation for vehicle braking and the pressure variation and flow continuity equations for the accumulator, simulation studies are conducted to analyze the effects of various system parameters, such as accumulator capacity, displacement of the secondary element variable delivery pump/motor, initial operating pressure of the system, etc. on system performance during regenerative braking.

Milan Malcho; Martin Vantúch; Marián Pafčuga; Dávid Hečko; Pavol Mičko;For countries with limited access to conventional hydrocarbon gases, methane hydrates appear as a possible source of energy or as a strategic concern for the creation of alternative natural gas reserves. Currently, natural gas hydrates are beginning to be included in the considerations of gas supply for the next decades. From a perspective point of view, the accumulation of natural gas in the form of hydrate structures and subsequent release, if necessary, proves to be very advantageous. Storing gas in such a form creates an energy-efficient interest in developing and innovating technology in this area.

For the mitigation of long-term pollution threats, one must consider that both the process of environmental degradation and the switchover to new and cleaner technologies are dynamic. We develop a model of a uniform good that can be produced by either a polluting technology or a clean one; the latter is more expensive and requires investment in capacity. We derive the socially optimal pollution stock accumulation and creation of nonpolluting production capacity, weighing the tradeoffs among consumption, investment and djustment costs, and environmental damages. We consider the effects of changes in the pollution decay rate, the capacity depreciation rate, and the initial state of the environment on both the steady state and the transition period. The optimal transition path looks quite different with a clean or dirty initial environment. With the former, investment is slow and the price of pollution may overshoot the long-run optimum before converging. With the latter, capacity may overshoot.

Thermoelectric devices may have an essential role in the development of fuel-saving, environmentallyfriendly, and cost-effective energy sources for power generation based on the direct conversion of heat into electrical energy. A wide usage of thermoelectric energy systems already exhibits high reliability and long operation time in the space industry and gas pipe systems. The development and application of solar thermoelectric generators (TEGs) arelimited mainly by relatively low thermoelectric conversion efficiency. Forthe first time, we propose to use the direct energy conversion of solar energy by TEGs based on the high-performance multilayer thermoelectric modules with electric efficiency of ~15%. Solar energy was absorbed and converted to thermal energy, which is accumulated by a phase-change material (aluminum alloys at solidification temperature ~900 K). The heat flow from the accumulator through the thermoelectric convertor (generator) allows electrical power to be obtained and the exhaust energy to be used for household purposes (heating and hot water supply) or for the operation of a plant for thermal desalination of water.

Oleksandr Bondarenko in OpenAIREMicro resistance welding is an effective way to reliably join small-scale parts. It is widely used in electronics and instrument-making. The important particularities of micro resistance welding are pulse character of energy consumption, non-linear load and special form of current pulses. So, these particularities of welding process cause negative influence on the mains. One of the known ways to avoid it is to use autonomous power supplies for micro resistance welding machines. The important task for building autonomous power supplies is to choose effective energy storages, which have high capacity and small internal resistance, and which are capable to be charged and deliver energy to load very quickly. The solution of this task is seen in using hybrid energy storages, which include accumulators and ultracapacitors. The accumulators are able to provide high energy capacitance and the ultracapacitors are able to provide fast energy delivery. The possibility of application of hybrid energy storages, based on accumulator batteries and ultracapacitors, in micro resistance welding machines is confirmed with computer simulation. Two variants of hybrid energy storages are proposed. These hybrid energy storages have high power and dynamic characteristics, which are sufficient to generate current pulses for welding according to necessary settings.

The off-grid photovoltaic (PV) system with batteries and with the LED light source was constructed and tested in in laboratory conditions. The PV system is used for emergency illumination and it is independent of the electric grid. The PV system is suitable for example in agriculture in store, in horse barn or in outdoors place. Description of the construction and testing is presented in this paper as well as results of the tests. The PV system was self-sufficient during the summer and autumn period till the November 3, 2011. Since November the illumination mode was modified. The illumination intensity was lowered, the discharging speed was decreased.

Mikelis Dzikevics in OpenAIREAbstractThermally stratified solar energy accumulation tanks are an effective technique widely used in solar collector systems. Thermal energy storage (TES) systems using phase change materials (PCM) is another technology that can be applied to accumulation tanks to improve thermal energy density. To analyze the impact of placing PCM inside the tanks, it is crucial to understand the parameters that describe the processes that take place in each of the PCM sphere. In this study COMSOL Multiphysic is used to analyze the energy accumulation in PCM through thermal conductivity, which is one of the first steps to full simulate PCM in stratified water environment. The assumption stated by other studies that for low Rayleigh numbers the thermal conductivity is the dominant heat transfer principle is tested by comparing the model to experimental data. The simulation results showed that the thermal conductivity method can be successfully used to model the process until the material has melted, suggesting that additional effects has to be considered to increase the accuracy of the model.
