This internship report is to present a study that aims to understand the changes of energy efficiency and acoustics of set of buildings nestled in Bragança that were the subject of rehabilitation intervention. These buildings are the result f a social character of the project has been built in the 80s and present typical construction solutions of the time although it noted some care in choosing materials, due to the demands of the region concerned- In this study we sought to understand how the solutions adopted for the rehabilitation contributed to an improvement in energy and acoustic efficiency of the buildings that were intervened. This improvement was quantified according of the methodology of the “Regulamento de Desempenho Energético dos Edifícios de Habitação (REH)”, the Portuguese regulation of Energy Performance for Residential Buildings and the “Regulamento dos Requisitos Acústicos em Edifícios (RRAE), the Portuguese regulation of acoustical Noise for Buildings. In addition to the analysis of constructive solutions that make part of the real rehabilitation were studied other ways of comparative character in order to understand which solutions that help us to Achieve an improvement in efficiency of housing in their thermal and acoustic performances and how expensive it could be. As a product of these analyses and to better understand the real impact of these interventions, is also presented an economic study that relates the necessary investment with the return that it will bring in reducing the energy bill.

The construction sector was one of the most important in the development of the economic activity in the country. The challenges that Europe and Portugal are facing due to the economic crisis led to a new vision about the real needs and priorities of society. The construction sector is the most affected by the crisis, witnessing a stagnant market for new construction due to the abundance of new buildings without any occupation. However, a slight gradual increase in the rehabilitation market is being observed due to the need to conserve and enhance the performance of the housing stock. The aim of this work was the thermal and acoustic characterization of some retrofit solutions of facades as well as the evaluation of its economic viability. For this analysis it was used dynamic simulation tools such as EnergyPlus and DesignBuilder and an acoustic simulation program Acoubat Sound. It was also evaluated the costeffectiveness of the solutions in order to verify the economic viability of these by determining the payback time of the investment in the retrofit solution. The retrofitting solutions were applied to a single-family building and to a multifamily building, considering different locations in the country. Several solutions were studied like the discontinuous independent coatings with thermal insulation in the air gap; the external thermal insulation composite system; the thermal insulation with prefabricated disconnected elements system; the masonry counter-façade; the plaster counter- façade; the concrete sandwich panel reinforced with fiberglass; and a prefabricated retrofit module developed in University of Minho. After analyzing the results obtained, for the single-family building the application of the prefabricated retrofit module developed in University of Minho led to the best energy performance and the characteristics suited to the region of Guimarães; in the heat losses evaluation due to thermal bridges, the plaster counter-façade presents the best results; none of the solutions improves the acoustic behavior of the facade, and the masonry counter-façade shows the worst results; the plaster counter- façade is the most costeffective solution. For multifamily building, only the application of the prefabricated retrofit module developed in University of Minho allows a good energy performance for Bragança and Évora; the plaster counter-façade shows the best results regarding the heat losses due to thermal bridges; the masonry counter-façade shows the worst acoustic performance but is the most efficient solution regarding the economic analysis for most of the studied areas, except Coimbra whose the most cost-effective solution is the application of the prefabricated retrofit module developed in University of Minho. Among distinct signal processing techniques employed for voice analysis, the spectrogram is commonly used, as it allows for a visualization of the variation of the energy of the signal as a function of the both time and frequency. In this context, this study investigates the use of the global energy of the voice signal, estimated through the spectrogram, as a tool for discrimination between signals obtained from healthy and pathological subjects. This research has also exploited the potential use of the global energy of the voice signal to discriminate distinct laryngeal disorders. In total, 94 subjets were involved in this study, from which 46 were dysphonic and 48 normal. The diagnosis of laryngeal disorders was confirmed by means of a videolaryngoscopic examination. Participants were also subjected to a clinical examination of vocal acoustic through the recording of the sustained vowel. The global energy allowed for the discrimination between normal and disphonic voice. Furthermore, this technique could discriminate the voice signal of patients suffering from left vocal fold paralysis from those suffering from other investigated disorders. The results suggest the global energy of the signal as an auxiliary and alternative tool for the diagnosis between normal and dysphonic voice. No total 94 ...

This Project appeared from the consortium created between Armadilha Solar (Arch. Miguel Veríssimo, the project author and director) and Minho University. The first part involved the creation/development of the concept, execution of the prototype and coordination of the project, and the second part of this project involved the technological investigation of the prototype, with the technical definition of the solutions that must be implemented. The idea developed is aimed directly at the exterior window-opening, with fundamental elements in the thermal, luminous, and acoustical transferences that occur between the inside and outside of the buildings. The aim of the JEE, was then to create an object of design, standard, ergonomic, that optimises a functional render of the exterior window-opening, improving the energetic efficiency and the environmental performance of the constructive systems, using recyclable materials. The investigation is focused on the study of solutions that are the better fit for the objectives set for the project. The passive solar solutions, of direct and indirect gain, constituted the diverse key studies of the computational simulation. Once finished, the process of optimisation of their components and founded the most suitable solution from the point of view of energy efficiency, satisfying all the other requirements, was initiated the prototype construction. Once constructed, it was installed in a conventional test cell (CTC), belonging to the laboratory of Physics and Technology of Constructions of University of Minho, where it was tested. Behind the realized instrumentation of the JEE, used to assess the performance in situ and to calibrate the model of JEE used on simulation programmes, diverse tests were used to characterise and compare the performance. The JEE should accomplish all requests and existing recommendations. The special cases of massless and uncharged particles are also examined. Exact solutions of both angular and radial parts of the covariant Klein-Gordon equation in these backgrounds are obtained in terms of the Heun functions. From the radial solutions, we obtain the exact wave solutions near the event horizons of the black holes and discuss the Hawking radiation spectrum. We apply the Heun functions properties to study the resonant frequencies (quasispectrum) and the scattering process of scalar waves, in a class of spacetimes. In the analogue gravity approach, namely, the spacetime of both three dimensional rotating and four dimensional canonical acoustic black holes, we obtain the analytic solutions of the radial part of the massless Klein-Gordon equation. From these solutions, we obtain the scalar wavesneartheacousticeventhorizonanddiscusstheanalogueHawkingradiation. In the quantum Newtonian cosmology, we obtain the exact solution of the Schrödinger equationforaparticle(galaxy)movinginthisuniverse.Thewavefunctionsaregiven in terms of the Heun functions, and the energy levels depend on the cosmological constant. The solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation in a homogeneous and isotropic universe are also obtained and given in terms of the Heun functions for the spatially closed, flat, and open geometries of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe filled with different forms of energy. We discuss the quantum fluctuations of the geodesic deviation equation in Minkowski spacetime for three different sources of the Riemann tensor fluctuations, namely, thermal bath of gravitons, gravitons in a squeezed state, and graviton vacuum state. ; Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq ; Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior ...
