Instead, only the estimated channel status is known by the transmitters. In this context, a joint optimization of subcarrier pairing and allocation, relay selection and transmit power allocation is formulated in the OFDMA two-way amplify-and-forward relay networks. Moreover, to ensure the Quality of Service (QoS) requirement, the energy consumption must be minimized without compromising the QoS. Therefore, by applying convex optimization techniques, energy efficient algorithms are developed with the objective to minimize the total transmit power while guaranteeing the required data rates. Through simulation studies, energy consumption performance of the systems under the proposed schemes are investigated. It is shown that the proposed scheme can improve the energy consumption performance without scarifying the QoS.

The article presents an innovative method of analyzing energy companies’ strategies, which aims to identify the strategic orientation of the entities subject to the research and, thus, to initially define the directions of strategic changes in the analyzed sector. The aim of the research, the results of which were used in this publication, was to identify the features of energy sector companies’ strategies in the European Union in the period of sector transformation caused by the new climate policy. The analysis area is the energy sector, i.e., the sector whose fundamental strategic goal is energy production. The research used a critical analysis of the subject literature and desk research method with the use of the researchers’ own analytical equipment, developed for the needs of this analysis. It was assumed in the conducted research that the primary source of information in the empirical study, the information subject to subsequent analysis, was the analysis of official documents (strategies, financial reports, etc.) posted on the websites of the surveyed corporations. The research results indicate the dominance of the resource-based approach in implementing strategic postulates of the surveyed companies. Nevertheless, the operational activity focuses on the implementation of innovative solutions towards decarbonization and climate neutrality.

Climate change, clean energy transition, the energy security quest, and international relations have triggered the revival of renewable energy as a solution to these problems. Nowadays, there is an energy transition where renewable energies bring geopolitical changes in a world where fossil fuels are becoming less relevant. This article aims to assess how the transition influences Spain’s energy relations with other countries regarding electricity and its sources, in alignment with the European Green Deal. In order to do so, its current energy situation, the renewable energies development and its energy import-export relations are examined. The results show that despite progress in green regionalization through more electric interconnection, little difference is to be found in traditional relations with fossil fuel countries exporters, but more are the contractions in Spanish energy economic policy, as here is explained.

Renewable energy provides an effective solution to the problem existing between energy and environmental protection. Tidal energy has great potential as a form of renewable energy. Tidal current generation (TCG) technology is the earliest renewable energy power generation technology. The advancement of science and technology has led to TCG rapidly developing since its emergence in the last century. This paper investigates the development of TCG in recent years based on the key components of TCG systems, both in terms of tidal energy harvesting research and power generation unit research. A summary of tidal energy harvesting is presented, investigating the main tidal energy harvesting units currently available. In addition, research on generators and generator control is summarized. Lastly, a comparison between horizontal and vertical axis turbines is carried out, and predictions are made about the future trends in TCG development. The purpose of this review is to summarize the research status and research methods of key components in tidal energy power generation technology and to provide insight into the research of tidal energy-related technologies.

The paper considers the transformation of human resource management processes in the healthcare settings of Ukraine in the context of war and the COVID-19 pandemic. It is noted that the unstable and hostile environment of a healthcare setting during times of crisis leads to the need to change the personnel selection and team formation model to increase the adaptability and resilience of human resources involved in the provision of medical care. The key features of the human resource management process in a turbulent environment are the high migration activity of personnel, which leads to the need to reallocate resources, the need to operate under severe financial constraints, and the need to consider personnel as a non-renewable resource when it is impossible to attract additional resources. To ensure the reliability of the functioning of a medical institution, the transformation of human resource management processes should be based on strategic agility and human resource management, organizational resilience as a resource-based capability, corporate sustainability, and transformation of enterprises’ resources, which can be achieved by applying methodological support for resource management in a multi-project environment. Considering a network of medical institutions as a multi-project environment will allow using the methodology of project-oriented resource management, forming adaptive teams in a multi-project environment, to ensure flexible redistribution of resources both within a single institution and within a network of institutions. It is proposed to use formal transformations to manage a medical institution’s human resources. Applying the proposed approach for managing the human resources of a medical institution is considered. The formation of a project team that satisfies the minimum requirements with the maximum value of the team’s qualification score is considered. It is shown that the use of this methodological support made it possible to choose the composition of the project team with a minimum number and a maximum value of the characteristic.

Fans as industrial devices are among the most significant single recipients of driving energy. Therefore, they represent an important area of energy savings to reduce CO2 emissions. The ubiquity of fans and their operation under conditions different from the optimum provides an opportunity for more significant global reductions in the energy used to drive them. The second important aspect, besides energy efficiency, related to the operation of fans is the noise they generate. This article studies fans in various operating configurations, emphasizing improving operating efficiency and reducing noise emissions. The subject matter undertaken is based on the current trends and needs of the industry, notably the ventilation and power industry. The article attempts a detailed literature review taking into account just these aspects. The paper is divided into three main sections, with an analysis of the literature in the areas of energy efficiency, considering the operation of fans with the necessary instrumentation, the incidence of vibration, and noise optimization. The final area of analysis is the parameters and components of the plant in which the fans operate. This article identifies possible sites for further research and scientific work to improve and optimize the areas identified earlier.

A review of related field projects and key simulation studies is provided, together with a discussion of the pros and cons of potential alkane solvents. Economics and the impact of dynamic and ultimate retention are discussed. A general conclusion drawn from literature is that optimal solvent application to SAGD will likely involve time variations in both rate and composition of the solvent. This results in an optimization problem that has a large number of dimensions, and is nonlinear. We have found genetic algorithms, which mimic biological evolution, have been found to be extremely effective in addressing such problems. The general methodology of application to solvent additives by Laricina Energy Ltd. is described. A key product of this effort, optimized for a simple clastic reservoir, is presented. The genetic algorithm produced an operable process, which could be described as a new combination of preexisting concepts. The process offers material improvements in thermal bitumen supply costs, as well as recovery factor. Major reductions in the physical steam/oil ratio (SOR), (and therefore) capital intensity and carbon emissions, are indicated.

Different extraction methods were tested and compared to obtain crude oil from the seed of <em>Pistacia</em> <em>chinensis</em>, along with various deacidification measures of refined oil. The biodiesel was produced through catalysis of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and potassium hydroxide (KOH). The results showed that the acid value of <em>Pistacia</em> <em>chinensis</em> oil was successfully reduced to 0.23 mg KOH/g when it was extracted using ethanol. Consequently, the biodiesel product gave a high yield beyond 96.0%. The transesterification catalysed by KOH was also more complete. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was used to monitor the transesterification reaction. Analyses by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and gas chromatography with a flame ionisation detector (GC-FID) certified that the <em>Pistacia</em> <em>chinensis</em> biodiesel mainly consisted of C<sub>18</sub> fatty acid methyl esters (81.07%) with a high percentage of methyl oleate. Furthermore, the measured fuel properties of the biodiesel met the required standards for fuel use. In conclusion, the <em>Pistacia</em> <em>chinensis</em> biodiesel is a qualified and feasible substitute for fossil diesel.

Most solar cookers usually perform a single task of solely cooking food during sunshine hours. Solar cookers coupled with thermal energy storage (TES) material for off-sunshine cooking are usually expensive and require complex engineering designs, and cannot be used for dual purposes, for example, solar water heating and cooking. In this paper, a solar cooker that can perform dual tasks of cooking as well as storing thermal energy to be used during off-sunshine periods is presented. The experimental setup is composed of a parabolic dish, a solar receiver coupled with a flat plate and an oil-circulating copper coil for charging and discharging a storage tank. The objective of the experiment is to evaluate the energy and exergy thermal performance parameters of the dual-purpose system during charging and discharging cycles. The effect of the flow rate and the mass of the load are investigated while using sunflower oil as both the heat transfer fluid and the storage material. Charging and discharging experiments are conducted using four different flow rates (2, 3, 4, 5 mL/s), and with different masses (0.5, 1, 1.5, 2.0 kg) with water and sunflower oil as the test loads. The charging results show that the average energy and exergy rates as well as their corresponding efficiencies increase with an increase in the charging flow rate. On the other hand, the increase in the mass load tends to decrease marginally the average charging energy and exergy rates for water, and their corresponding efficiencies. For sunflower oil, the average charging energy and exergy rates and efficiencies showed a more pronounced decrease with an increase in the mass. Water generally shows higher charging and discharging energy and exergy efficiencies compared to sunflower oil with an increase in the flow rate. For discharging results, the correlations between the energy and exergy thermal performance parameters with respect to the flow rate and the heating load are not well defined possibly due to different initial storage tank temperatures at the onset of discharging and the inefficient discharging process which needs to be optimized in future.

Instead, only the estimated channel status is known by the transmitters. In this context, a joint optimization of subcarrier pairing and allocation, relay selection and transmit power allocation is formulated in the OFDMA two-way amplify-and-forward relay networks. Moreover, to ensure the Quality of Service (QoS) requirement, the energy consumption must be minimized without compromising the QoS. Therefore, by applying convex optimization techniques, energy efficient algorithms are developed with the objective to minimize the total transmit power while guaranteeing the required data rates. Through simulation studies, energy consumption performance of the systems under the proposed schemes are investigated. It is shown that the proposed scheme can improve the energy consumption performance without scarifying the QoS.

The article presents an innovative method of analyzing energy companies’ strategies, which aims to identify the strategic orientation of the entities subject to the research and, thus, to initially define the directions of strategic changes in the analyzed sector. The aim of the research, the results of which were used in this publication, was to identify the features of energy sector companies’ strategies in the European Union in the period of sector transformation caused by the new climate policy. The analysis area is the energy sector, i.e., the sector whose fundamental strategic goal is energy production. The research used a critical analysis of the subject literature and desk research method with the use of the researchers’ own analytical equipment, developed for the needs of this analysis. It was assumed in the conducted research that the primary source of information in the empirical study, the information subject to subsequent analysis, was the analysis of official documents (strategies, financial reports, etc.) posted on the websites of the surveyed corporations. The research results indicate the dominance of the resource-based approach in implementing strategic postulates of the surveyed companies. Nevertheless, the operational activity focuses on the implementation of innovative solutions towards decarbonization and climate neutrality.

Climate change, clean energy transition, the energy security quest, and international relations have triggered the revival of renewable energy as a solution to these problems. Nowadays, there is an energy transition where renewable energies bring geopolitical changes in a world where fossil fuels are becoming less relevant. This article aims to assess how the transition influences Spain’s energy relations with other countries regarding electricity and its sources, in alignment with the European Green Deal. In order to do so, its current energy situation, the renewable energies development and its energy import-export relations are examined. The results show that despite progress in green regionalization through more electric interconnection, little difference is to be found in traditional relations with fossil fuel countries exporters, but more are the contractions in Spanish energy economic policy, as here is explained.

Renewable energy provides an effective solution to the problem existing between energy and environmental protection. Tidal energy has great potential as a form of renewable energy. Tidal current generation (TCG) technology is the earliest renewable energy power generation technology. The advancement of science and technology has led to TCG rapidly developing since its emergence in the last century. This paper investigates the development of TCG in recent years based on the key components of TCG systems, both in terms of tidal energy harvesting research and power generation unit research. A summary of tidal energy harvesting is presented, investigating the main tidal energy harvesting units currently available. In addition, research on generators and generator control is summarized. Lastly, a comparison between horizontal and vertical axis turbines is carried out, and predictions are made about the future trends in TCG development. The purpose of this review is to summarize the research status and research methods of key components in tidal energy power generation technology and to provide insight into the research of tidal energy-related technologies.

The paper considers the transformation of human resource management processes in the healthcare settings of Ukraine in the context of war and the COVID-19 pandemic. It is noted that the unstable and hostile environment of a healthcare setting during times of crisis leads to the need to change the personnel selection and team formation model to increase the adaptability and resilience of human resources involved in the provision of medical care. The key features of the human resource management process in a turbulent environment are the high migration activity of personnel, which leads to the need to reallocate resources, the need to operate under severe financial constraints, and the need to consider personnel as a non-renewable resource when it is impossible to attract additional resources. To ensure the reliability of the functioning of a medical institution, the transformation of human resource management processes should be based on strategic agility and human resource management, organizational resilience as a resource-based capability, corporate sustainability, and transformation of enterprises’ resources, which can be achieved by applying methodological support for resource management in a multi-project environment. Considering a network of medical institutions as a multi-project environment will allow using the methodology of project-oriented resource management, forming adaptive teams in a multi-project environment, to ensure flexible redistribution of resources both within a single institution and within a network of institutions. It is proposed to use formal transformations to manage a medical institution’s human resources. Applying the proposed approach for managing the human resources of a medical institution is considered. The formation of a project team that satisfies the minimum requirements with the maximum value of the team’s qualification score is considered. It is shown that the use of this methodological support made it possible to choose the composition of the project team with a minimum number and a maximum value of the characteristic.

Fans as industrial devices are among the most significant single recipients of driving energy. Therefore, they represent an important area of energy savings to reduce CO2 emissions. The ubiquity of fans and their operation under conditions different from the optimum provides an opportunity for more significant global reductions in the energy used to drive them. The second important aspect, besides energy efficiency, related to the operation of fans is the noise they generate. This article studies fans in various operating configurations, emphasizing improving operating efficiency and reducing noise emissions. The subject matter undertaken is based on the current trends and needs of the industry, notably the ventilation and power industry. The article attempts a detailed literature review taking into account just these aspects. The paper is divided into three main sections, with an analysis of the literature in the areas of energy efficiency, considering the operation of fans with the necessary instrumentation, the incidence of vibration, and noise optimization. The final area of analysis is the parameters and components of the plant in which the fans operate. This article identifies possible sites for further research and scientific work to improve and optimize the areas identified earlier.

A review of related field projects and key simulation studies is provided, together with a discussion of the pros and cons of potential alkane solvents. Economics and the impact of dynamic and ultimate retention are discussed. A general conclusion drawn from literature is that optimal solvent application to SAGD will likely involve time variations in both rate and composition of the solvent. This results in an optimization problem that has a large number of dimensions, and is nonlinear. We have found genetic algorithms, which mimic biological evolution, have been found to be extremely effective in addressing such problems. The general methodology of application to solvent additives by Laricina Energy Ltd. is described. A key product of this effort, optimized for a simple clastic reservoir, is presented. The genetic algorithm produced an operable process, which could be described as a new combination of preexisting concepts. The process offers material improvements in thermal bitumen supply costs, as well as recovery factor. Major reductions in the physical steam/oil ratio (SOR), (and therefore) capital intensity and carbon emissions, are indicated.

Different extraction methods were tested and compared to obtain crude oil from the seed of <em>Pistacia</em> <em>chinensis</em>, along with various deacidification measures of refined oil. The biodiesel was produced through catalysis of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and potassium hydroxide (KOH). The results showed that the acid value of <em>Pistacia</em> <em>chinensis</em> oil was successfully reduced to 0.23 mg KOH/g when it was extracted using ethanol. Consequently, the biodiesel product gave a high yield beyond 96.0%. The transesterification catalysed by KOH was also more complete. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was used to monitor the transesterification reaction. Analyses by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and gas chromatography with a flame ionisation detector (GC-FID) certified that the <em>Pistacia</em> <em>chinensis</em> biodiesel mainly consisted of C<sub>18</sub> fatty acid methyl esters (81.07%) with a high percentage of methyl oleate. Furthermore, the measured fuel properties of the biodiesel met the required standards for fuel use. In conclusion, the <em>Pistacia</em> <em>chinensis</em> biodiesel is a qualified and feasible substitute for fossil diesel.

Most solar cookers usually perform a single task of solely cooking food during sunshine hours. Solar cookers coupled with thermal energy storage (TES) material for off-sunshine cooking are usually expensive and require complex engineering designs, and cannot be used for dual purposes, for example, solar water heating and cooking. In this paper, a solar cooker that can perform dual tasks of cooking as well as storing thermal energy to be used during off-sunshine periods is presented. The experimental setup is composed of a parabolic dish, a solar receiver coupled with a flat plate and an oil-circulating copper coil for charging and discharging a storage tank. The objective of the experiment is to evaluate the energy and exergy thermal performance parameters of the dual-purpose system during charging and discharging cycles. The effect of the flow rate and the mass of the load are investigated while using sunflower oil as both the heat transfer fluid and the storage material. Charging and discharging experiments are conducted using four different flow rates (2, 3, 4, 5 mL/s), and with different masses (0.5, 1, 1.5, 2.0 kg) with water and sunflower oil as the test loads. The charging results show that the average energy and exergy rates as well as their corresponding efficiencies increase with an increase in the charging flow rate. On the other hand, the increase in the mass load tends to decrease marginally the average charging energy and exergy rates for water, and their corresponding efficiencies. For sunflower oil, the average charging energy and exergy rates and efficiencies showed a more pronounced decrease with an increase in the mass. Water generally shows higher charging and discharging energy and exergy efficiencies compared to sunflower oil with an increase in the flow rate. For discharging results, the correlations between the energy and exergy thermal performance parameters with respect to the flow rate and the heating load are not well defined possibly due to different initial storage tank temperatures at the onset of discharging and the inefficient discharging process which needs to be optimized in future.
