    Currently, for the determination of the suitable and optimal PV power plant according to the climate conditions of the concerned region, researchers focus on the estimation of certain performance factors, which are reported to be the key parameters for the analysis of the performances of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power systems. In this context, this paper focuses on on-site real-time analysis of the performance of three solar photovoltaic plants: Sidi-bel-Abbés (12 MWp), Laghouat (60 MWp), and Ghardaïa (1.1 MWp). These plants are located in different regions experiencing diverse climatic conditions in Algeria. The analysis was carried out by the standardized norms of IEC 61724, using monitoring data collected over one year. The photovoltaic power plants were evaluated in terms of performance factors, such as the reference yield (Yr), final yield (Yf), performance ratio (PR), and capacity factor (CF). On the other side, based on real data collected at the concerned sites, two linear functions depending on solar irradiance and the PV module temperature for each site are proposed for the evaluation of the generated alternative power output (PAC) for the three PV plants. The obtained results based on the study presented in this paper can help designers of PV power plants of different technologies and different climate conditions to precisely decide the convenient technology that allows the best production of the electrical energy for grid-tied PV systems. Furthermore, this study can contribute in giving a clear vision of the implementation of upcoming large-scale solar PV power plants in Algeria within the studied area and other areas.

    The primary objective of this paper focuses on developing a control approach to improve the operational performance of a three-level neutral point clamped (3LNPC) shunt active power filter (SAPF) within a grid-tied PV system configuration. Indeed, this developed control approach, based on the used 3LNPC-SAPF topology, aims to ensure the seamless integration of a photovoltaic system into the three-phase four-wire grid while effectively mitigating grid harmonics, grid current unbalance, ensuring grid unit power factor by compensating the load reactive power, and allowing power sharing with the grid in case of an excess of generated power from the PV system, leading to overall high power quality at the grid side. This developed approach is based initially on the application of the four-wire instantaneous p-q theory for the identification of the reference currents that have to be injected by the 3LNPC-SAPF in the grid point of common coupling (PCC). Whereas, the 3LNPC is controlled based on using the finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC), which can be accomplished by determining the convenient set of switch states leading to the voltage vector, which is the most suitable to ensure the minimization of the selected cost function. Furthermore, the used topology requires a constant DC-link voltage and balanced split-capacitor voltages at the input side of the 3LNPN. Hence, the cost function is adjusted by the addition of another term with a selected weighting factor related to these voltages to ensure their precise control following the required reference values. However, due to the random changes in solar irradiance and, furthermore, to ensure efficient operation of the proposed topology, the PV system is connected to the 3LNPN-SAPF via a DC/DC boost converter to ensure the stability of the 3LNPN input voltage within the reference value, which is achieved in this paper based on the use of the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique. For the validation of the proposed control technique and the functionality of the used topology, a set of simulations has been presented and investigated in this paper following different irradiance profile scenarios such as a constant irradiance profile and a variables irradiance profile where the main aim is to prove the effectiveness and flexibility of the proposed approach under variable irradiance conditions. The obtained results based on the simulations carried out in this study demonstrate that the proposed control approach with the used topology under different loads such as linear, non-linear, and unbalanced can effectively reduce the harmonics, eliminating the unbalance in the currents and compensating for the reactive component contained in the grid side. The obtained results prove also that the proposed control ensures a consistent flow of power based on the sharing principle between the grid and the PV system as well as enabling the efficient satisfaction of the load demand. It can be said that the proposal presented in this paper has been proven to have many dominant features such as the ability to accurately estimate the power sharing between the grid and the PV system for ensuring the harmonics elimination, the reactive power compensation, and the elimination of the neutral current based on the zero-sequence component compensation, even under variable irradiance conditions. This feature makes the used topology and the developed control a valuable tool for power quality improvement and grid stability enhancement with low cost and under clean energy.

    Open-end winding five-phase induction motor (OeW-5PIM) configuration is used in industrial applications, where minimization in the total harmonic currents and high reliability are needed. The majority of the literature on OeW-5PIM topology discusses field-oriented control and direct torque control in addition to other robust control techniques such as the backstepping approach. This paper focuses on the mathematical and experimental approaches of backstepping control (BSC) and rotor-flux-oriented control (RFOC) for an OeW-5PIM topology. The space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) strategy is associated with the suggested control techniques to improve the dynamic performance (i.e., reducing ripple, fixed switching frequency, etc.) of the studied motor. Furthermore, the RFOC-SVPWM and BSC-SVPWM are comprehensively compared using experimental implementation under various situations such as load torque, open-phase fault, and high/low-speed operation.

    In this paper we propose a decentralized nonlinear controller that has the ability to enhance the transient stability and achieve voltage regulation simultaneously for multimachine power systems. This paper extends the existing work on the construction of TS fuzzy model using linearly independent functions from nonlinear systems. This approach is based on Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy controller via parallel distributed compensation (PDC) method. The stability analysis and control design problems can be reduced to linear matrix inequality (LMI) problems. Based on only local measurements, the designed fuzzy state feedback controller guarantees stability and satisfies desired transient responses. The proposed controller is applied to two-generator infinite bus power system. Simulation results illustrate the performance of the developed approach regardless of the system operating conditions.

    This paper focuses on the application of the direct torque control based on space vector modulation (DTC-SVM), combined with the input–output feedback linearization (IOFL) technique on a three-phase dual open-end windings induction motor (DOEWIM) fed by two dual indirect matrix converters. The main aim of integrating the non-linear technique is to overcome the main drawbacks met within the application of the conventional DTC-SVM on dual-stator induction motor (DSIM), such as the torque and flux ripples reduction, the stator harmonics current minimization, and the elimination of the common-mode voltage (CMV). Furthermore, it is proved in this paper that the proposed control on DOEWIN can ensure more flexibility versus speed reverse and variation, load torque changes, and motor parameters variation. The obtained results prove the validity of the proposed control on the studied induction motor topology in ensuring the main aforementioned advantages compared to the conventional DTC-SVM control on DSIM, which presents a promising solution, especially in industrial applications in which high-power motors are required.

    This paper presents the application of a proposed hybrid control strategy that is designed to enhance the performance and robustness of a grid-connected wind energy conversion system (WECS) using a Five-Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (FP-PMSG). The proposed approach combines the second-order terminal sliding mode control technique (SO-STA) with the super-twisting algorithm (STA), with the main goal of benefitting from both their advantages while addressing their limitations. Indeed, the sole application of the SO-STA ensures rapid convergence and robust performances in nonlinear systems, but it leads to chattering and reduces the whole system’s efficiency. Therefore, by incorporating the STA, the obtained hybrid control can mitigate this issue by ensuring smoother control actions and a superior dynamic response. This designed hybrid control strategy improves the adaptability of the control system to wind fluctuations and enhances the system’s robustness against external disturbances and uncertainties, leading to higher reliability and efficiency in the wind energy conversion system. Furthermore, the proposed hybrid control allows optimizing the power extraction and boosting the WECS’s efficiency. It is worth clarifying that, besides this proposed control, a sliding mode controller is used for the grid side converter (GSC) and DC link voltage to ensure stable power transfer to the grid. The obtained simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in improving the stability, robustness, and efficiency of the studied WECS under dynamic conditions, creating a promising solution for control in renewable energy systems operating under severe conditions.

    This paper presents a newly designed switching linear feedback structure of sliding mode control (SLF-SMC) plugged with an model reference adaptive system (MRAS) based sensorless field-oriented control (SFOC) for induction motor (IM). Indeed, the performance of the MRAS depends mainly on the operating point and the parametric variation of the IM. Hence, the sliding mode control (SMC) could be considered a good control alternative due to its easy implementation and robustness. Simulation and experimentation results are presented to show the superiority of the proposed SLF-SMC technique in comparison with the classical PI controller under different speed ranges and inertia conditions.

    This paper presents a comparison study between the measured solar radiations on site and the calculated solar radiation based on the most theoretical models presented in the literature up to date. Indeed, for such purposes, this paper focusses on the analysis of the data of the measured solar radiation collected on two sites in Algeria such as Tlemcen (34°52′58″ N 01°19′00″ W, elevation 842 m) and Senia (35°39′ N 0°38′ W, elevation: 77 m). In order to check the accuracy of the proposed model, the experimental collected data of the solar radiation obtained from the existing radiometric stations installed at the two locations under investigation, are compared with the estimated or predicted solar radiations obtained from the Capderou and R.Sun models, where four days under clear skies are selected from different seasons to achieve this comparison. Second, the daily averages of the experimental global solar irradiation are compared to those predicted by Mefti model for both the sites. Finally, a validation is carried out based on the obtained experimental monthly global irradiations and with those estimated by Coppolino and Sivkov models. A relative difference is used in this case to judge the reliability and the accuracy of each model for both sites.

    The primary aim of this study was to explore the impact of employing the K-fold Cross Validation resampling method in contrast to the hold-out set validation approach on the efficacy of forecasting models utilizing Multi-layer Neural Networks (MNN) for predicting photovoltaic (PV) output power. Real data sourced from southern Algeria was utilized for this purpose. The performance of various configurations of MNN models, with differing learning rate values, was evaluated using the coefficient of variation of Root Mean Square Error (CV(RMSE)). The findings consistently demonstrate that models developed using K-fold Cross Validation exhibited superior performance across most scenarios. These results underscore the potential advantages of leveraging such resampling techniques in terms of both generalization and robustness of forecasting models.

    Optimizing the magnetic coupling of two coils of a dynamic wireless charging power supply for electric vehicles (EVs) is a challenging and crucial task. This article examines three situations of the magnetic coupling between two identical rectangular spiral coils with the same number of turns as a function of both the horizontal (X axis) and vertical (Z axis) alignment. In the first one, the analysis of the magnetic coupling between two copper air coils is presented. However, the obtained coupling coefficient was very low with a high leakage flux which affected the performance of the charging system. In the second case, a straightforward shielding method that involves inserting a magnetic material of the ferrite type is proposed to circumvent the aforementioned problems. Unfortunately, the obtained results show that simple shielding is still only a partial and insufficient solution. In the third situation, an aluminum sheet was consequently placed on the top of the ferrite to provide an adequate shielding structure. Additionally, a 3D analysis of the proper and mutual induction parameters separating the two coils as well as a magnetic field or induction distribution is also performed using the ANSYS Maxwell software. The results highlight the significance of the enhanced structure.

    Currently, for the determination of the suitable and optimal PV power plant according to the climate conditions of the concerned region, researchers focus on the estimation of certain performance factors, which are reported to be the key parameters for the analysis of the performances of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power systems. In this context, this paper focuses on on-site real-time analysis of the performance of three solar photovoltaic plants: Sidi-bel-Abbés (12 MWp), Laghouat (60 MWp), and Ghardaïa (1.1 MWp). These plants are located in different regions experiencing diverse climatic conditions in Algeria. The analysis was carried out by the standardized norms of IEC 61724, using monitoring data collected over one year. The photovoltaic power plants were evaluated in terms of performance factors, such as the reference yield (Yr), final yield (Yf), performance ratio (PR), and capacity factor (CF). On the other side, based on real data collected at the concerned sites, two linear functions depending on solar irradiance and the PV module temperature for each site are proposed for the evaluation of the generated alternative power output (PAC) for the three PV plants. The obtained results based on the study presented in this paper can help designers of PV power plants of different technologies and different climate conditions to precisely decide the convenient technology that allows the best production of the electrical energy for grid-tied PV systems. Furthermore, this study can contribute in giving a clear vision of the implementation of upcoming large-scale solar PV power plants in Algeria within the studied area and other areas.

    The primary objective of this paper focuses on developing a control approach to improve the operational performance of a three-level neutral point clamped (3LNPC) shunt active power filter (SAPF) within a grid-tied PV system configuration. Indeed, this developed control approach, based on the used 3LNPC-SAPF topology, aims to ensure the seamless integration of a photovoltaic system into the three-phase four-wire grid while effectively mitigating grid harmonics, grid current unbalance, ensuring grid unit power factor by compensating the load reactive power, and allowing power sharing with the grid in case of an excess of generated power from the PV system, leading to overall high power quality at the grid side. This developed approach is based initially on the application of the four-wire instantaneous p-q theory for the identification of the reference currents that have to be injected by the 3LNPC-SAPF in the grid point of common coupling (PCC). Whereas, the 3LNPC is controlled based on using the finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC), which can be accomplished by determining the convenient set of switch states leading to the voltage vector, which is the most suitable to ensure the minimization of the selected cost function. Furthermore, the used topology requires a constant DC-link voltage and balanced split-capacitor voltages at the input side of the 3LNPN. Hence, the cost function is adjusted by the addition of another term with a selected weighting factor related to these voltages to ensure their precise control following the required reference values. However, due to the random changes in solar irradiance and, furthermore, to ensure efficient operation of the proposed topology, the PV system is connected to the 3LNPN-SAPF via a DC/DC boost converter to ensure the stability of the 3LNPN input voltage within the reference value, which is achieved in this paper based on the use of the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique. For the validation of the proposed control technique and the functionality of the used topology, a set of simulations has been presented and investigated in this paper following different irradiance profile scenarios such as a constant irradiance profile and a variables irradiance profile where the main aim is to prove the effectiveness and flexibility of the proposed approach under variable irradiance conditions. The obtained results based on the simulations carried out in this study demonstrate that the proposed control approach with the used topology under different loads such as linear, non-linear, and unbalanced can effectively reduce the harmonics, eliminating the unbalance in the currents and compensating for the reactive component contained in the grid side. The obtained results prove also that the proposed control ensures a consistent flow of power based on the sharing principle between the grid and the PV system as well as enabling the efficient satisfaction of the load demand. It can be said that the proposal presented in this paper has been proven to have many dominant features such as the ability to accurately estimate the power sharing between the grid and the PV system for ensuring the harmonics elimination, the reactive power compensation, and the elimination of the neutral current based on the zero-sequence component compensation, even under variable irradiance conditions. This feature makes the used topology and the developed control a valuable tool for power quality improvement and grid stability enhancement with low cost and under clean energy.

    Open-end winding five-phase induction motor (OeW-5PIM) configuration is used in industrial applications, where minimization in the total harmonic currents and high reliability are needed. The majority of the literature on OeW-5PIM topology discusses field-oriented control and direct torque control in addition to other robust control techniques such as the backstepping approach. This paper focuses on the mathematical and experimental approaches of backstepping control (BSC) and rotor-flux-oriented control (RFOC) for an OeW-5PIM topology. The space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) strategy is associated with the suggested control techniques to improve the dynamic performance (i.e., reducing ripple, fixed switching frequency, etc.) of the studied motor. Furthermore, the RFOC-SVPWM and BSC-SVPWM are comprehensively compared using experimental implementation under various situations such as load torque, open-phase fault, and high/low-speed operation.

    In this paper we propose a decentralized nonlinear controller that has the ability to enhance the transient stability and achieve voltage regulation simultaneously for multimachine power systems. This paper extends the existing work on the construction of TS fuzzy model using linearly independent functions from nonlinear systems. This approach is based on Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy controller via parallel distributed compensation (PDC) method. The stability analysis and control design problems can be reduced to linear matrix inequality (LMI) problems. Based on only local measurements, the designed fuzzy state feedback controller guarantees stability and satisfies desired transient responses. The proposed controller is applied to two-generator infinite bus power system. Simulation results illustrate the performance of the developed approach regardless of the system operating conditions.

    This paper focuses on the application of the direct torque control based on space vector modulation (DTC-SVM), combined with the input–output feedback linearization (IOFL) technique on a three-phase dual open-end windings induction motor (DOEWIM) fed by two dual indirect matrix converters. The main aim of integrating the non-linear technique is to overcome the main drawbacks met within the application of the conventional DTC-SVM on dual-stator induction motor (DSIM), such as the torque and flux ripples reduction, the stator harmonics current minimization, and the elimination of the common-mode voltage (CMV). Furthermore, it is proved in this paper that the proposed control on DOEWIN can ensure more flexibility versus speed reverse and variation, load torque changes, and motor parameters variation. The obtained results prove the validity of the proposed control on the studied induction motor topology in ensuring the main aforementioned advantages compared to the conventional DTC-SVM control on DSIM, which presents a promising solution, especially in industrial applications in which high-power motors are required.

    This paper presents the application of a proposed hybrid control strategy that is designed to enhance the performance and robustness of a grid-connected wind energy conversion system (WECS) using a Five-Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (FP-PMSG). The proposed approach combines the second-order terminal sliding mode control technique (SO-STA) with the super-twisting algorithm (STA), with the main goal of benefitting from both their advantages while addressing their limitations. Indeed, the sole application of the SO-STA ensures rapid convergence and robust performances in nonlinear systems, but it leads to chattering and reduces the whole system’s efficiency. Therefore, by incorporating the STA, the obtained hybrid control can mitigate this issue by ensuring smoother control actions and a superior dynamic response. This designed hybrid control strategy improves the adaptability of the control system to wind fluctuations and enhances the system’s robustness against external disturbances and uncertainties, leading to higher reliability and efficiency in the wind energy conversion system. Furthermore, the proposed hybrid control allows optimizing the power extraction and boosting the WECS’s efficiency. It is worth clarifying that, besides this proposed control, a sliding mode controller is used for the grid side converter (GSC) and DC link voltage to ensure stable power transfer to the grid. The obtained simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in improving the stability, robustness, and efficiency of the studied WECS under dynamic conditions, creating a promising solution for control in renewable energy systems operating under severe conditions.

    This paper presents a newly designed switching linear feedback structure of sliding mode control (SLF-SMC) plugged with an model reference adaptive system (MRAS) based sensorless field-oriented control (SFOC) for induction motor (IM). Indeed, the performance of the MRAS depends mainly on the operating point and the parametric variation of the IM. Hence, the sliding mode control (SMC) could be considered a good control alternative due to its easy implementation and robustness. Simulation and experimentation results are presented to show the superiority of the proposed SLF-SMC technique in comparison with the classical PI controller under different speed ranges and inertia conditions.

    This paper presents a comparison study between the measured solar radiations on site and the calculated solar radiation based on the most theoretical models presented in the literature up to date. Indeed, for such purposes, this paper focusses on the analysis of the data of the measured solar radiation collected on two sites in Algeria such as Tlemcen (34°52′58″ N 01°19′00″ W, elevation 842 m) and Senia (35°39′ N 0°38′ W, elevation: 77 m). In order to check the accuracy of the proposed model, the experimental collected data of the solar radiation obtained from the existing radiometric stations installed at the two locations under investigation, are compared with the estimated or predicted solar radiations obtained from the Capderou and R.Sun models, where four days under clear skies are selected from different seasons to achieve this comparison. Second, the daily averages of the experimental global solar irradiation are compared to those predicted by Mefti model for both the sites. Finally, a validation is carried out based on the obtained experimental monthly global irradiations and with those estimated by Coppolino and Sivkov models. A relative difference is used in this case to judge the reliability and the accuracy of each model for both sites.

    The primary aim of this study was to explore the impact of employing the K-fold Cross Validation resampling method in contrast to the hold-out set validation approach on the efficacy of forecasting models utilizing Multi-layer Neural Networks (MNN) for predicting photovoltaic (PV) output power. Real data sourced from southern Algeria was utilized for this purpose. The performance of various configurations of MNN models, with differing learning rate values, was evaluated using the coefficient of variation of Root Mean Square Error (CV(RMSE)). The findings consistently demonstrate that models developed using K-fold Cross Validation exhibited superior performance across most scenarios. These results underscore the potential advantages of leveraging such resampling techniques in terms of both generalization and robustness of forecasting models.

    Optimizing the magnetic coupling of two coils of a dynamic wireless charging power supply for electric vehicles (EVs) is a challenging and crucial task. This article examines three situations of the magnetic coupling between two identical rectangular spiral coils with the same number of turns as a function of both the horizontal (X axis) and vertical (Z axis) alignment. In the first one, the analysis of the magnetic coupling between two copper air coils is presented. However, the obtained coupling coefficient was very low with a high leakage flux which affected the performance of the charging system. In the second case, a straightforward shielding method that involves inserting a magnetic material of the ferrite type is proposed to circumvent the aforementioned problems. Unfortunately, the obtained results show that simple shielding is still only a partial and insufficient solution. In the third situation, an aluminum sheet was consequently placed on the top of the ferrite to provide an adequate shielding structure. Additionally, a 3D analysis of the proper and mutual induction parameters separating the two coils as well as a magnetic field or induction distribution is also performed using the ANSYS Maxwell software. The results highlight the significance of the enhanced structure.
