High-speed rail (HSR) and tourism are closely related activities since improved mobility is perceived to facilitate tourist behavioral changes. The interest in research is very high and this contribution tries to provide an insight into this topic by making a comparison between the estimation of the parametric Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) approaches with the non-parametric Classification and Regression Tree (CART). A dataset containing information both on tourism and transport for thirty Chinese provinces, during the 2001–2017 period, has been collected. The finding of this paper shows that the presence of HSR has value in the explanation of tourist arrivals.

Many medium sized Italian cities present pollution problems, due to their geographical position and climate conditions and mainly due to congested traffic flows. Impacts on the health of residents are becoming more frequent and also risky. Thus different policies have been proposed to reduce environmental effects. Among these, the use of low or zero emission vehicles both for private and public transport. In this paper a fuel cell self contained bus system is proposed for a medium sized town. Moreover its economic feasibility has been evaluated taking also into account residents health advantages.

This paper provides a contribution to the international literature by applying regression tree methods to the analysis of the expected effects of the High Speed Rail project in Italy on the tourism market. This approach, as far as the author knows, has never been applied in this context. Tourism and transport information have been gathered for 99 Italian provinces during the 2006–2016 period. Tree-structured methods have been chosen as an application of regression models in which some explanatory variables are used as covariates to predict the dependent variable values on the basis of some decision rules. This approach establishes a casual effect between dependent and independent variables. The dependent variables chosen are the Italian and foreign tourists, and the number of overnights spent by Italians and foreigners. Among the independent variables are the presence of HSR, the presence of first-level airport hubs and the number of operating bases of low-cost airlines; among the attractiveness variables are the GDP, the number of attractions in a given province, the presence of the sea, the population and the percentage of unemployment. The main outcome of this study is that HSR affects the tourism market.

The aim of this paper is to analyse through a systematic literature review the main topics studied on a relatively new concept: e-grocery. This study examines the existing literature through the use of some interactive Scopus applications with the goal to provide: (1) a better understanding of the main topics that have been analysed up to now; (2) the principal methodologies that have been used; and (3) the challenges that still exist as well as literature gaps. First, we provide a summary of what has been previously researched in the field, analysing the trends regarding time, sources, authors, countries and document types. Then, tokenization, and a natural language process (NLP) that applies the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) method, is used to extract the main topics in the field. We obtain that the research topics in the discipline have always been linked with technological changes, innovation and diffusion, and environmental effects have been a cornerstone since the origin of the field. In comparison with other fields in transport economics, we notice that experimental design and choice modelling are not very popular. As a step towards future research, we propose an integrative framework for e-grocery consumer behaviour that starts from the Engel–Kollat–Blackwell (EKB) model.

An economic analysis identifies, measures, and compares the costs and benefits of alternative interventions, with the objective of supporting decisions concerning the best use of limited resources. The cost benefit analysis (CBA) has played a significant role within the entire decision-making process, and is the principal assessment methodology. In recent years, equity issues in relation to transportation planning have become a hot topic at an international level. In this paper, the objective was to integrate equity within the evaluation of transport projects, specifically high speed rail projects. Here, consumer surplus is conceived as a monetized measure of both direct and indirect benefits for all zones, and for all socioeconomic categories served and not served by HSR, respectively. The added value of this paper is in rethinking these two shares in the computation of the total net present value as equity measures of the project itself. Specifically, the distribution of the HSR benefits among the different groups or zones in a given study area can be computed, and a comparison of the values for each zone of the study area and for each category makes it possible to assess the effects of equity between zones/categories.

The objective of this manuscript is to understand whether the policies regarding tourism and transport affect positively citizens ‘trust in local institutions. A survey was employed to citizens of the metropolitan area of Naples (in Italy), aiming at capturing citizens’ perceptions with respect to the positive and negative impacts concerning tourism and transport related policies and the level of their engagement in the institutions ‘decisions for a sustainable development.
