A simultaneous measurement of the top-quark, W-boson, and neutrino masses is reported for tt¯ events selected in the dilepton final state from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1 collected by the CMS experiment in pp collisions at s√=7 TeV. The analysis is based on endpoint determinations in kinematic distributions. When the neutrino and W-boson masses are constrained to their world-average values, a top-quark mass value of Mt=173.9±0.9 (stat.)+1.7−2.1 (syst.) GeV is obtained. When such constraints are not used, the three particle masses are obtained in a simultaneous fit. In this unconstrained mode the study serves as a test of mass determination methods that may be used in beyond standard model physics scenarios where several masses in a decay chain may be unknown and undetected particles lead to underconstrained kinematics. T.;We report first evidence for a fully reconstructed decay mode of the B_c^{\pm} meson in the channel B_c^{\pm} \to J/psi ��^{\pm}, with J/psi \to mu^+mu^-. The analysis is based on an integrated luminosity of 360 pb$^{-1} in p\bar{p} collisions at 1.96 TeV center of mass energy collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We observe 14.6 \pm 4.6 signal events with a background of 7.1 \pm 0.9 events, and a fit to the J/psi pi^{\pm} mass spectrum yields a B_c^{\pm} mass of 6285.7 \pm 5.3(stat) \pm 1.2(syst) MeV/c^2. The probability of a peak of this magnitude occurring by random fluctuation in the search region is estimated as 0.012%. 7 pages, 3 figures. Version 3, accepted by PRL

T.; Goulianos, Konstantin; Gresele, A.; Griffiths, M.; Grinstein, S.;We describe a search for anomalous production of events with two leptons ($e$ or $��$) of the same electric charge in \ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Many extensions to the standard model predict the production of two leptons of the same electric charge. This search has a significant increase in sensitivity compared to earlier searches. Using a data sample corresponding to 1 \invfb of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF II detector, we observe no significant excess in an inclusive selection (expect $33.2\pm4.7$ events, observe 44) or in a SUSY-optimized selection (expect $7.8\pm1.1$ events, observe 13.) replaced with published version

A.;A measurement is presented of the two-jet differential cross section d{sup 3}{sigma}/dE{sub T}d{eta}{sub 1}d{eta}{sub 2} at center of mass energy {radical}s=1800 GeV in p{bar p} collisions. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 86 pb{sup {minus}1} collected during 1994 to 1995 by the CDF Collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The differential cross section is measured as a function of the transverse energy E{sub T} of a jet in the pseudorapidity region 0.1{lt}{vert_bar}{eta}{sub 1}{vert_bar}{lt}0.7 for four different pseudorapidity bins of a second jet restricted to 0.1{lt}{vert_bar}{eta}{sub 2}{vert_bar}{lt}3.0. The results are compared with next-to-leading order QCD calculations determined using the CTEQ4 and MRST sets of parton distribution functions. None of the sets examined in this analysis provides a good description of the data.

We describe a general search for resonances decaying to a neutral e{mu} final state in p{bar p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Using a data sample representing 344 pb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF II experiment, we compare Standard Model predictions with the number of observed events for invariant masses between 50 and 800 GeV/c{sup 2}. Finding no significant excess (5 events observed vs. 7.7 {+-} 0.8 expected for M{sub e{mu}} > 100 GeV/c{sup 2}), we set limits on sneutrino and Z' masses as functions of lepton family number violating couplings.

We present results of a search at CDF in 929 pb-1 of ppbar collisions at 1.96 TeV for the anomalous production of events containing a high-transverse momentum charged lepton (either electron or muon) and photon, accompanied by missing transverse energy (MET), and/or additional leptons and photons, and jets (X). We use the same selection criteria as in a previous CDF Run I search, but with an order-magnitude larger data set, a higher ppbar collision energy, and the CDF II detector. We find 163 Lepton + Photon + MET + X events, compared to an expectation of 150.6+-13.0 events. We observe 74 Multi-Lepton + Photon + X events, compared to an expectation of 65.1+-7.7 events. We find no events similar to the Run I 2 electrons + 2 photons + MET event. 15 pages, 13 figures

We present a detailed description of a search for anomalous production of missing E{sub T} (E/{sub T}), jets, leptons (e,{mu},{tau}), {ital b} quarks, or additional photons in events containing two isolated, central ({vert_bar}{eta}{vert_bar}{lt}1.0) photons with E{sub T}{gt}12 GeV. The results are consistent with standard model expectations, with the possible exception of one event that has, in addition to the two photons, a central electron, a high-E{sub T} electromagnetic cluster, and large E/{sub T}. We report the first observation of the associated production of a W boson and a Z boson. This result is based on 1.1 fb-1 of integrated luminosity from ppbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We observe 16 WZ candidates passing our event selection with an expected background of 2.7 +/- 0.4 events. A fit to the missing transverse energy distribution indicates an excess of events compared to the background expectation corresponding to a significance equivalent to six standard deviations. The measured cross section is sigma(ppbar -> WZ) = 5.0^{+1.8}_{-1.6} pb, consistent with the standard model expectation. 7 pages, 3 figures. Submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett

The properties of three-jet events with total transverse energy greater than 320 GeV and individual jet energy greater than 20 GeV have been analyzed and compared to absolute predictions from a next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculation. These data, of integrated luminosity 86 pb{sup -1}, were recorded by the CDF Experiment for pp collisions at {radical}(s)=1.8 TeV. This study tests a model of higher order QCD processes that result in gluon emission and may give some indication of the magnitude of the contribution of processes higher than NLO. The total cross section is measured to be 466{+-}3(stat.){sub -70}{sup +207}(syst.) pb. The differential cross section is furthermore measured for all kinematically accessible regions of the Dalitz plane, including those for which the theoretical prediction is unreliable. While the measured cross section is consistent with the theoretical prediction in magnitude, the two differ somewhat in shape in the Dalitz plane.

A precision measurement of the top quark mass m_t is obtained using a sample of ttbar events from ppbar collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron with the CDF II detector. Selected events require an electron or muon, large missing transverse energy, and exactly four high-energy jets, at least one of which is tagged as coming from a b quark. A likelihood is calculated using a matrix element method with quasi-Monte Carlo integration taking into account finite detector resolution and jet mass effects. The event likelihood is a function of m_t and a parameter DJES to calibrate the jet energy scale /in situ/. Using a total of 1087 events, a value of m_t = 173.0 +/- 1.2 GeV/c^2 is measured. 7 pages, 3 figures. Edited in response to referee comments and resubmitted to Phys. Rev. Lett

A simultaneous measurement of the top-quark, W-boson, and neutrino masses is reported for tt¯ events selected in the dilepton final state from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1 collected by the CMS experiment in pp collisions at s√=7 TeV. The analysis is based on endpoint determinations in kinematic distributions. When the neutrino and W-boson masses are constrained to their world-average values, a top-quark mass value of Mt=173.9±0.9 (stat.)+1.7−2.1 (syst.) GeV is obtained. When such constraints are not used, the three particle masses are obtained in a simultaneous fit. In this unconstrained mode the study serves as a test of mass determination methods that may be used in beyond standard model physics scenarios where several masses in a decay chain may be unknown and undetected particles lead to underconstrained kinematics. T.;We report first evidence for a fully reconstructed decay mode of the B_c^{\pm} meson in the channel B_c^{\pm} \to J/psi ��^{\pm}, with J/psi \to mu^+mu^-. The analysis is based on an integrated luminosity of 360 pb$^{-1} in p\bar{p} collisions at 1.96 TeV center of mass energy collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We observe 14.6 \pm 4.6 signal events with a background of 7.1 \pm 0.9 events, and a fit to the J/psi pi^{\pm} mass spectrum yields a B_c^{\pm} mass of 6285.7 \pm 5.3(stat) \pm 1.2(syst) MeV/c^2. The probability of a peak of this magnitude occurring by random fluctuation in the search region is estimated as 0.012%. 7 pages, 3 figures. Version 3, accepted by PRL

T.; Goulianos, Konstantin; Gresele, A.; Griffiths, M.; Grinstein, S.;We describe a search for anomalous production of events with two leptons ($e$ or $��$) of the same electric charge in \ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Many extensions to the standard model predict the production of two leptons of the same electric charge. This search has a significant increase in sensitivity compared to earlier searches. Using a data sample corresponding to 1 \invfb of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF II detector, we observe no significant excess in an inclusive selection (expect $33.2\pm4.7$ events, observe 44) or in a SUSY-optimized selection (expect $7.8\pm1.1$ events, observe 13.) replaced with published version

A.;A measurement is presented of the two-jet differential cross section d{sup 3}{sigma}/dE{sub T}d{eta}{sub 1}d{eta}{sub 2} at center of mass energy {radical}s=1800 GeV in p{bar p} collisions. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 86 pb{sup {minus}1} collected during 1994 to 1995 by the CDF Collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The differential cross section is measured as a function of the transverse energy E{sub T} of a jet in the pseudorapidity region 0.1{lt}{vert_bar}{eta}{sub 1}{vert_bar}{lt}0.7 for four different pseudorapidity bins of a second jet restricted to 0.1{lt}{vert_bar}{eta}{sub 2}{vert_bar}{lt}3.0. The results are compared with next-to-leading order QCD calculations determined using the CTEQ4 and MRST sets of parton distribution functions. None of the sets examined in this analysis provides a good description of the data.

We describe a general search for resonances decaying to a neutral e{mu} final state in p{bar p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Using a data sample representing 344 pb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF II experiment, we compare Standard Model predictions with the number of observed events for invariant masses between 50 and 800 GeV/c{sup 2}. Finding no significant excess (5 events observed vs. 7.7 {+-} 0.8 expected for M{sub e{mu}} > 100 GeV/c{sup 2}), we set limits on sneutrino and Z' masses as functions of lepton family number violating couplings.

We present results of a search at CDF in 929 pb-1 of ppbar collisions at 1.96 TeV for the anomalous production of events containing a high-transverse momentum charged lepton (either electron or muon) and photon, accompanied by missing transverse energy (MET), and/or additional leptons and photons, and jets (X). We use the same selection criteria as in a previous CDF Run I search, but with an order-magnitude larger data set, a higher ppbar collision energy, and the CDF II detector. We find 163 Lepton + Photon + MET + X events, compared to an expectation of 150.6+-13.0 events. We observe 74 Multi-Lepton + Photon + X events, compared to an expectation of 65.1+-7.7 events. We find no events similar to the Run I 2 electrons + 2 photons + MET event. 15 pages, 13 figures

We present a detailed description of a search for anomalous production of missing E{sub T} (E/{sub T}), jets, leptons (e,{mu},{tau}), {ital b} quarks, or additional photons in events containing two isolated, central ({vert_bar}{eta}{vert_bar}{lt}1.0) photons with E{sub T}{gt}12 GeV. The results are consistent with standard model expectations, with the possible exception of one event that has, in addition to the two photons, a central electron, a high-E{sub T} electromagnetic cluster, and large E/{sub T}. We report the first observation of the associated production of a W boson and a Z boson. This result is based on 1.1 fb-1 of integrated luminosity from ppbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We observe 16 WZ candidates passing our event selection with an expected background of 2.7 +/- 0.4 events. A fit to the missing transverse energy distribution indicates an excess of events compared to the background expectation corresponding to a significance equivalent to six standard deviations. The measured cross section is sigma(ppbar -> WZ) = 5.0^{+1.8}_{-1.6} pb, consistent with the standard model expectation. 7 pages, 3 figures. Submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett

The properties of three-jet events with total transverse energy greater than 320 GeV and individual jet energy greater than 20 GeV have been analyzed and compared to absolute predictions from a next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculation. These data, of integrated luminosity 86 pb{sup -1}, were recorded by the CDF Experiment for pp collisions at {radical}(s)=1.8 TeV. This study tests a model of higher order QCD processes that result in gluon emission and may give some indication of the magnitude of the contribution of processes higher than NLO. The total cross section is measured to be 466{+-}3(stat.){sub -70}{sup +207}(syst.) pb. The differential cross section is furthermore measured for all kinematically accessible regions of the Dalitz plane, including those for which the theoretical prediction is unreliable. While the measured cross section is consistent with the theoretical prediction in magnitude, the two differ somewhat in shape in the Dalitz plane.

A precision measurement of the top quark mass m_t is obtained using a sample of ttbar events from ppbar collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron with the CDF II detector. Selected events require an electron or muon, large missing transverse energy, and exactly four high-energy jets, at least one of which is tagged as coming from a b quark. A likelihood is calculated using a matrix element method with quasi-Monte Carlo integration taking into account finite detector resolution and jet mass effects. The event likelihood is a function of m_t and a parameter DJES to calibrate the jet energy scale /in situ/. Using a total of 1087 events, a value of m_t = 173.0 +/- 1.2 GeV/c^2 is measured. 7 pages, 3 figures. Edited in response to referee comments and resubmitted to Phys. Rev. Lett
