description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Journal 2020Publisher:Springer Science and Business Media LLC Funded by:EC | GOFLEXEC| GOFLEXAuthors: Pierre Roduit; Pierre Ferrez; Yousra Sidqi; Dominique Gabioud;Abstract In this paper, a thorough analysis of quantification of the heating appliances’ flexibility provided by 200 households located in the Sion area (Switzerland) is presented. An extended evaluation of the available flexibility throughout the year as well as a correlation analysis between the outside temperature and flexibility is performed. The influence of pooling households in the prediction process is assessed. The impact of cutting the power to heating appliances and the incurred rebound effect are also described.

Frankhauser;International audience ; Global energy transformation, urban growth and the increasing share of electricity in energy consumption stimulate the development of electrical distribution systems. In most cases, the structure of distribution networks has been the result of progressive decisions limited by technical, socio-economic and spatial constraints. These decisions are taken with the help of dedicated tools that fail in grasping in a simple way the connections between the structural choices and the achieved performances. To improve planning process, a new approach is proposed which is based on multifractality to connect the distribution system’s network structure and steady-state properties. The structure of distribution grids is modeled by coupling a Diffusion-Limited-Aggregation approach and a binomial multiplicative process. The multifractal spectrum of the synthesized grids is calculated from a power flow and shows how the structural parameters are linked to the steady-state values (voltages and losses). The results are compared to realistic test cases. The article finally concludes on the interest of multifractality to grade distribution grids and the advantages of fractal architectures for future power networks.

This article addresses the suitable approaches for empowering energy citizens and smart energy communities through the development of community-based microgrid (C-MG) solutions while taking into consideration the functional architectural layers and system integration topologies, interoperability issues, strategies for consumer-centric energy trading under the local electricity market (LEM) mechanism, and socio-economic aspects. Thus, this article presents state-of-the-art microgrid solutions for the smart energy community along with their motivation, advantages and challenges, comprehensibly contrasted between the recommended generic architecture and every other reported structure. The notion of LEM for peer-to-peer (P2P) energy exchange inside a transactive energy system based on a flexible consumer-centric and bottom-up perspective towards the participation in the wholesale electricity market (WEM) is also reviewed and critically explored. Furthermore, the article reviews the interoperability issues in relation to the development of C-MG including energy trading facilities. The article’s overall contribution is that it paves the path for advanced research and industrialisation in the field of smart energy communities through the analytical recommendations of the C-MG architecture and DER (distributed energy resource) integration structure, considering the future trend of local energy markets and socio-economic aspects.

These include integrating weather-dependent renewables, distributed generators, storage units and other advanced components, as well as taking into account active demand. These challenges, together with the ageing of infrastructures, make it more difficult to deliver cost-effective, reliable power. To overcome these issues requires creating new network architectures. The research project Fractal Grid proposes fractality as a core concept to model, analyze and design smart grids in their evolution up to 2030 and beyond. This paper presents the project, its methodological approach and the first results.
