T.;We report first evidence for a fully reconstructed decay mode of the B_c^{\pm} meson in the channel B_c^{\pm} \to J/psi ��^{\pm}, with J/psi \to mu^+mu^-. The analysis is based on an integrated luminosity of 360 pb$^{-1} in p\bar{p} collisions at 1.96 TeV center of mass energy collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We observe 14.6 \pm 4.6 signal events with a background of 7.1 \pm 0.9 events, and a fit to the J/psi pi^{\pm} mass spectrum yields a B_c^{\pm} mass of 6285.7 \pm 5.3(stat) \pm 1.2(syst) MeV/c^2. The probability of a peak of this magnitude occurring by random fluctuation in the search region is estimated as 0.012%. 7 pages, 3 figures. Version 3, accepted by PRL

T.; Goulianos, Konstantin; Gresele, A.; Griffiths, M.; Grinstein, S.;We describe a search for anomalous production of events with two leptons ($e$ or $��$) of the same electric charge in \ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Many extensions to the standard model predict the production of two leptons of the same electric charge. This search has a significant increase in sensitivity compared to earlier searches. Using a data sample corresponding to 1 \invfb of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF II detector, we observe no significant excess in an inclusive selection (expect $33.2\pm4.7$ events, observe 44) or in a SUSY-optimized selection (expect $7.8\pm1.1$ events, observe 13.) replaced with published version

We describe a general search for resonances decaying to a neutral e{mu} final state in p{bar p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Using a data sample representing 344 pb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF II experiment, we compare Standard Model predictions with the number of observed events for invariant masses between 50 and 800 GeV/c{sup 2}. Finding no significant excess (5 events observed vs. 7.7 {+-} 0.8 expected for M{sub e{mu}} > 100 GeV/c{sup 2}), we set limits on sneutrino and Z' masses as functions of lepton family number violating couplings.

We have searched for the supersymmetric partner of the top quark (stop) in 107 pb^{-1} of p-pbar collisions at \sqrt{s}= 1.8 TeV collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). Within the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) each of the pair-produced stops is assumed to decay into a lepton, bottom quark and supersymmetric neutrino. Such a scenario would give rise to events with two leptons, two hadronic jets, and a substantial imbalance of transverse energy. No evidence of such a stop signal has been found. We calculate a 95% confidence level (C.L.) upper limit on the stop production cross section, which excludes stop masses in the region (80 7 pages, 5 figures. Submitted to Physical Review Letters

We present results of a search at CDF in 929 pb-1 of ppbar collisions at 1.96 TeV for the anomalous production of events containing a high-transverse momentum charged lepton (either electron or muon) and photon, accompanied by missing transverse energy (MET), and/or additional leptons and photons, and jets (X). We use the same selection criteria as in a previous CDF Run I search, but with an order-magnitude larger data set, a higher ppbar collision energy, and the CDF II detector. We find 163 Lepton + Photon + MET + X events, compared to an expectation of 150.6+-13.0 events. We observe 74 Multi-Lepton + Photon + X events, compared to an expectation of 65.1+-7.7 events. We find no events similar to the Run I 2 electrons + 2 photons + MET event. 15 pages, 13 figures

We report on a search for a high mass, narrow width particle that decays directly to e+mu, e+tau, or mu+tau. We use approximately 110 pb^-1 of data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab from 1992 to 1995. No evidence of lepton flavor violating decays is found. We report the measurement of the longitudinal diffusion constant in liquid argon with the DarkSide-50 dual-phase time projection chamber. The measurement is performed at drift electric fields of 100 V/cm, 150 V/cm, and 200 V/cm using high statistics $^{39}$Ar decays from atmospheric argon. We derive an expression to describe the pulse shape of the electroluminescence signal (S2) in dual-phase TPCs. The derived S2 pulse shape is fit to events from the uppermost portion of the TPC in order to characterize the radial dependence of the signal. The results are provided as inputs to the measurement of the longitudinal diffusion constant DL, which we find to be (4.12 $\pm$ 0.04) cm$^2$/s for a selection of 140keV electron recoil events in 200V/cm drift field and 2.8kV/cm extraction field. To study the systematics of our measurement we examine datasets of varying event energy, field strength, and detector volume yielding a weighted average value for the diffusion constant of (4.09 $\pm$ 0.09) cm$^2$ /s. The measured longitudinal diffusion constant is observed to have an energy dependence, and within the studied energy range the result is systematically lower than other results in the literature.

The properties of three-jet events with total transverse energy greater than 320 GeV and individual jet energy greater than 20 GeV have been analyzed and compared to absolute predictions from a next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculation. These data, of integrated luminosity 86 pb{sup -1}, were recorded by the CDF Experiment for pp collisions at {radical}(s)=1.8 TeV. This study tests a model of higher order QCD processes that result in gluon emission and may give some indication of the magnitude of the contribution of processes higher than NLO. The total cross section is measured to be 466{+-}3(stat.){sub -70}{sup +207}(syst.) pb. The differential cross section is furthermore measured for all kinematically accessible regions of the Dalitz plane, including those for which the theoretical prediction is unreliable. While the measured cross section is consistent with the theoretical prediction in magnitude, the two differ somewhat in shape in the Dalitz plane.

A precision measurement of the top quark mass m_t is obtained using a sample of ttbar events from ppbar collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron with the CDF II detector. Selected events require an electron or muon, large missing transverse energy, and exactly four high-energy jets, at least one of which is tagged as coming from a b quark. A likelihood is calculated using a matrix element method with quasi-Monte Carlo integration taking into account finite detector resolution and jet mass effects. The event likelihood is a function of m_t and a parameter DJES to calibrate the jet energy scale /in situ/. Using a total of 1087 events, a value of m_t = 173.0 +/- 1.2 GeV/c^2 is measured. 7 pages, 3 figures. Edited in response to referee comments and resubmitted to Phys. Rev. Lett

We report the first observation of the associated production of a W boson and a Z boson. This result is based on 1.1 fb-1 of integrated luminosity from ppbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We observe 16 WZ candidates passing our event selection with an expected background of 2.7 +/- 0.4 events. A fit to the missing transverse energy distribution indicates an excess of events compared to the background expectation corresponding to a significance equivalent to six standard deviations. The measured cross section is sigma(ppbar -> WZ) = 5.0^{+1.8}_{-1.6} pb, consistent with the standard model expectation. 7 pages, 3 figures. Submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett

T.;We report first evidence for a fully reconstructed decay mode of the B_c^{\pm} meson in the channel B_c^{\pm} \to J/psi ��^{\pm}, with J/psi \to mu^+mu^-. The analysis is based on an integrated luminosity of 360 pb$^{-1} in p\bar{p} collisions at 1.96 TeV center of mass energy collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We observe 14.6 \pm 4.6 signal events with a background of 7.1 \pm 0.9 events, and a fit to the J/psi pi^{\pm} mass spectrum yields a B_c^{\pm} mass of 6285.7 \pm 5.3(stat) \pm 1.2(syst) MeV/c^2. The probability of a peak of this magnitude occurring by random fluctuation in the search region is estimated as 0.012%. 7 pages, 3 figures. Version 3, accepted by PRL

T.; Goulianos, Konstantin; Gresele, A.; Griffiths, M.; Grinstein, S.;We describe a search for anomalous production of events with two leptons ($e$ or $��$) of the same electric charge in \ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Many extensions to the standard model predict the production of two leptons of the same electric charge. This search has a significant increase in sensitivity compared to earlier searches. Using a data sample corresponding to 1 \invfb of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF II detector, we observe no significant excess in an inclusive selection (expect $33.2\pm4.7$ events, observe 44) or in a SUSY-optimized selection (expect $7.8\pm1.1$ events, observe 13.) replaced with published version

We describe a general search for resonances decaying to a neutral e{mu} final state in p{bar p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Using a data sample representing 344 pb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF II experiment, we compare Standard Model predictions with the number of observed events for invariant masses between 50 and 800 GeV/c{sup 2}. Finding no significant excess (5 events observed vs. 7.7 {+-} 0.8 expected for M{sub e{mu}} > 100 GeV/c{sup 2}), we set limits on sneutrino and Z' masses as functions of lepton family number violating couplings.

We have searched for the supersymmetric partner of the top quark (stop) in 107 pb^{-1} of p-pbar collisions at \sqrt{s}= 1.8 TeV collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). Within the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) each of the pair-produced stops is assumed to decay into a lepton, bottom quark and supersymmetric neutrino. Such a scenario would give rise to events with two leptons, two hadronic jets, and a substantial imbalance of transverse energy. No evidence of such a stop signal has been found. We calculate a 95% confidence level (C.L.) upper limit on the stop production cross section, which excludes stop masses in the region (80 7 pages, 5 figures. Submitted to Physical Review Letters

We present results of a search at CDF in 929 pb-1 of ppbar collisions at 1.96 TeV for the anomalous production of events containing a high-transverse momentum charged lepton (either electron or muon) and photon, accompanied by missing transverse energy (MET), and/or additional leptons and photons, and jets (X). We use the same selection criteria as in a previous CDF Run I search, but with an order-magnitude larger data set, a higher ppbar collision energy, and the CDF II detector. We find 163 Lepton + Photon + MET + X events, compared to an expectation of 150.6+-13.0 events. We observe 74 Multi-Lepton + Photon + X events, compared to an expectation of 65.1+-7.7 events. We find no events similar to the Run I 2 electrons + 2 photons + MET event. 15 pages, 13 figures

We report on a search for a high mass, narrow width particle that decays directly to e+mu, e+tau, or mu+tau. We use approximately 110 pb^-1 of data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab from 1992 to 1995. No evidence of lepton flavor violating decays is found. We report the measurement of the longitudinal diffusion constant in liquid argon with the DarkSide-50 dual-phase time projection chamber. The measurement is performed at drift electric fields of 100 V/cm, 150 V/cm, and 200 V/cm using high statistics $^{39}$Ar decays from atmospheric argon. We derive an expression to describe the pulse shape of the electroluminescence signal (S2) in dual-phase TPCs. The derived S2 pulse shape is fit to events from the uppermost portion of the TPC in order to characterize the radial dependence of the signal. The results are provided as inputs to the measurement of the longitudinal diffusion constant DL, which we find to be (4.12 $\pm$ 0.04) cm$^2$/s for a selection of 140keV electron recoil events in 200V/cm drift field and 2.8kV/cm extraction field. To study the systematics of our measurement we examine datasets of varying event energy, field strength, and detector volume yielding a weighted average value for the diffusion constant of (4.09 $\pm$ 0.09) cm$^2$ /s. The measured longitudinal diffusion constant is observed to have an energy dependence, and within the studied energy range the result is systematically lower than other results in the literature.

The properties of three-jet events with total transverse energy greater than 320 GeV and individual jet energy greater than 20 GeV have been analyzed and compared to absolute predictions from a next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculation. These data, of integrated luminosity 86 pb{sup -1}, were recorded by the CDF Experiment for pp collisions at {radical}(s)=1.8 TeV. This study tests a model of higher order QCD processes that result in gluon emission and may give some indication of the magnitude of the contribution of processes higher than NLO. The total cross section is measured to be 466{+-}3(stat.){sub -70}{sup +207}(syst.) pb. The differential cross section is furthermore measured for all kinematically accessible regions of the Dalitz plane, including those for which the theoretical prediction is unreliable. While the measured cross section is consistent with the theoretical prediction in magnitude, the two differ somewhat in shape in the Dalitz plane.

A precision measurement of the top quark mass m_t is obtained using a sample of ttbar events from ppbar collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron with the CDF II detector. Selected events require an electron or muon, large missing transverse energy, and exactly four high-energy jets, at least one of which is tagged as coming from a b quark. A likelihood is calculated using a matrix element method with quasi-Monte Carlo integration taking into account finite detector resolution and jet mass effects. The event likelihood is a function of m_t and a parameter DJES to calibrate the jet energy scale /in situ/. Using a total of 1087 events, a value of m_t = 173.0 +/- 1.2 GeV/c^2 is measured. 7 pages, 3 figures. Edited in response to referee comments and resubmitted to Phys. Rev. Lett

We report the first observation of the associated production of a W boson and a Z boson. This result is based on 1.1 fb-1 of integrated luminosity from ppbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We observe 16 WZ candidates passing our event selection with an expected background of 2.7 +/- 0.4 events. A fit to the missing transverse energy distribution indicates an excess of events compared to the background expectation corresponding to a significance equivalent to six standard deviations. The measured cross section is sigma(ppbar -> WZ) = 5.0^{+1.8}_{-1.6} pb, consistent with the standard model expectation. 7 pages, 3 figures. Submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett
