description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Other literature type 2021Publisher:EDP Sciences Authors: Magdalena Balintova; Yelizaveta Chernysh; Viktoriia Chubur;Today, the global trend in the development of renewable energy sources is the implementation of integrated processing of organic waste with the production of biogenic gases such as biomethane. In this case, an essential focus is the study of biogas purification processes to methane. This paper focuses on the process of modeling biochemical purification of biogas from hydrogen sulfide to develop the direction of biomethane production. Simulation of hydrogen sulfide bio-oxidation process with the use of granulated carrier based on phosphogypsum was conducted using experimental data from previous studies to verify the adequacy of the proposed mathematical model. Thus, to implement the process of phosphogypsum utilization in technological systems of biogas purification, it is important to consider the level of bioactivity in the immobilization of bacteria on the loading surface of phosphogypsum and the degree of biotransformation of phosphogypsum components in the oxidation of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide impurities to achieve the highest ecological effect. Also, the use of overlay visualization allowed to form the main clusters of development of research potential in the field of biogas technologies for Ukraine.

The paper aims to formulate the content, key directions, positive and negative effects of additive economy (AE) in the current transition phase to Industry 4.0. The research method is based on the analysis of structural links in socio-economic systems, where the additive economy potential is realized. The additive economy is treated as a new approach to production technological aspect based on the additive principle of manufacturing and aimed at minimizing the use of primary natural resources for dematerialization of social production. AE is the antithesis of the subtractive economy, which dominates today and uses only a tiny proportion of extracted natural resources. Among the positive effects of AE, there are the reduction in energy intensity of products, dematerialization of production, solidarity of society, economic systems sustainability, and intellectualization of technologies and materials. Among the negative expectations of AE, there are increased information vulnerability of production, risk of losing control over cyber-physical systems, expanding the unification of individuals, and increasing psychological stress. The additive economy is more sustainable than the subtractive economy since it does not require extra components to the production spheres, reduces the resource scarcity, and could satisfy more economic agents’ needs. Therefore, improved production efficiency due to AE promises economic growth acceleration, environmental burden and social risk reduction. Acknowledgment The publication was prepared in the framework of the research projects “Sustainable development and resource security: from disruptive technologies to digital transformation of Ukrainian economy” (№ 0121U100470); Fundamental bases of the phase transition to an additive economy: from disruptive technologies to institutional sociologization of decisions (No. 0121U109557).

Nevertheless, according to the presented analysis, the total water runoff for hydropower generation did not change. The last fact is an important policy implication for small hydropower promotion in Ukraine because it belongs to that region and has similar climate conditions. Having analysed the hydropower potential, the paper describes the main advantages and limitations of implementing small hydropower projects in Ukraine. The cost of electricity generated by a small hydropower plant in Ukraine is determined and compared with the current feed-in tariff. The calculations show that the feed-in tariff is 1.4 times higher than the electricity generation cost, making the implementation of small hydropower plants profitable for investors. Since the state provides sufficient economic support for this sector's development, the financial and non-economic barriers significantly hinder small hydropower plant deployment are considered.

The thesis examines the development of economic and organizational principles for implementing the smart grid to form an integrated energy-centric model of Ukraine's economy following the European Union's single energy policy. Accordingly, using VOSviewer v.1.6.10 and Google Trends tools, the author investigated the theoretical foundations of the study of the structural and functional environment of the smart grids concept formation and development. It allowed us to identify and describe patterns in the following dimensions. Evolutionary: in this context, four stages of the evolution of scientific and public interest in smart grids were identified and characterized during the period 2008 – august 2020. Geographical: analysis of this dimension of smart grids allowed the development of a cluster of international research networks to study smart grids' deployment. The thesis found that scientists from EU countries have the largest number of joint publications. In contrast, American researchers' publications are mononational (prepared without foreign scientists' participation), although the absolute number of studies conducted by scientists from the United States makes them undisputed leaders. Semantic: the research identified five cross-sectoral study clusters and the most relevant areas related to smart grids. These areas are renewable energy, energy storage and electrification, energy management, and information technologies. The research also revealed trends in changing the direction of smart grids' economic analysis from approaches to tariff formation and commercialization of smart grids to study smart grids' global economic model and their technical and economic efficiency energy consumption patterns. The thesis proposed a scientific and methodological approach to assessing the impact of smart grids' policy on country's socio-economic development. It was done through a systematic combination of tools to verify the nature of data distribution, equality of sample variances, comparison of their means, and regression analysis of time data. It allowed to empirically confirm the importance of developing smart grids in the economy's energy sector to increase its social and economic development. A methodological basis for a comparative analysis of existing systems for evaluating smart grids' efficiency was formed. The approach was based on identifying functionally significant components of smart grids and the most relevant of them under the objectives of the energy sector of the national economy. These components are sustainability, information, economic, technical, communicative efficiency, environmental friendliness, and electric transport infrastructure in smart grids. It allowed to evaluating and ranking the existing systems for measuring the efficiency of smart grids in state regulation of the economy's energy sector under the standard EU energy policy requirements. The integrated approach to smart grids` efficiency evaluation was developed. The proposed method takes into account the purpose of the assessment. It allowed for a more accurate evaluation of potential or existing smart grids and measured smart grids development's effectiveness at the regional and national levels. Establishing the optimal number of areas for assessing smart grids, formalization of the methodological basis for their quantification, aggregation of indicators by groups and areas of assessment, taking into account direct and indirect effects, opportunities for further optimization of smart grids, and ensuring their compliance with the strategic task of building an integrated energy centered model in Ukraine was presented as a component of the integrated evaluation approach. Designed roadmap for developing smart grids in Ukraine is based on benchmarking analysis of leading countries' experience. This roadmap formalizes a list of specific measures to develop domestic energy infrastructure, regulatory interventions, and policies' openness to energy-efficient solutions. The roadmap explains each stakeholders` necessary activity according to the smart grid development process's main stages. These stages are adapting distributed energy generation to the energy system, creating decentralized and dispersed energy networks. The roadmap is based on a combination of phased development and localization of smart grids. It provides for the mass deployment of homogeneous smart energy technologies and the simultaneous implementation of pilot projects for smart grids. An organizational and communication scheme of stakeholder interaction is a tool to activate drivers for smart grids. It helps to implement energy-efficient smart grid projects and support their scaling to the national economy level. The scheme uses as a base the modification of the smart grid maturity model. The organizational and communication scheme promotes the integration of value chains, increases asset management efficiency, and creates the preconditions for further expansion of smart grids.

China showing the fastest economic growth in the world has entered into a new phase of advance, facing a critical industrial transformation and progression. The paper aims to analyse China's green economic development considering the differences in development of regions. The study applied the ultra-efficient slacks-based measure model to scrutinize China's green economic development efficiency. Dagum Gini coefficient and Kernel density methods are used to estimate spatial characteristics, local adjustments, and dynamic evolution trends. The analysis is based on an annual dataset of 30 Chinese provinces from 2010 to 2019. The findings did not confirm extensive China's green economic development. In contrast, the development efficacy reveals an influential drive over the years. Regional green development is detected as unstable and diverges due to interregional differences. The findings showed that environmental regulation, government investment, industrial structure, education development were 0.0648, 0.00154, 0.0035 and 0.118 (significant at 5% and 1%), respectively. Besides, they stimulate the green economic development in the analysed regions. However, urbanization and openness of economy had the negative value. It confirmed their restriction impact on the green economic development. In addition, the findings showed that ongoing Chines policy on management of environmental development is the priority direction and provoke the declining the environmental pollution. Besides, the modernization and optimization of the Chinese industry structure stimulate the further green economic progress.

The Ukrainian renewable energy sector has demonstrated a significant increase in its renewable power capacity, especially for solar and wind power plants. Decommissioning the end-of-life equipment in Ukraine has not yet taken place, but it is only a matter of time. With this in mind, this paper assesses the quantities and the market values of the materials that could potentially be recovered from used solar and wind power plants, and it estimates the impact of their decommissioning on employment in Ukraine. It has been estimated that approximately 8.9 GW of solar power plants, and 3.6 GW of wind power plants, will be decommissioned from 2044 to 2059, and that the cost of the raw materials recovered could reach EUR 421.4 million and EUR 124.6 million in 2021 prices, respectively, compared to the decommissioning costs of EUR 240.1 million and EUR 49.1 million, respectively. Decommissioning renewable power plants will require the creation of new jobs, including 11.6 thousand in the solar industry, and 2.8 thousand in the wind sector. It is essential to amend the legislation in Ukraine, particularly Directive 2012/19/EU, to introduce the principle of the extended producer responsibility to ensure the efficient recycling of renewable power plant end-of-life equipment in Ukraine in the future.

The development of a comprehensive approach to cost evaluation of environmental innovations allowed to estimate the total cost of the construction project together with environmental and economic damage, choose the most optimal environmental measures for housing, agricultural or road construction, more effectively organise the management system of the construction company. The article considers the importance of making environmental managerial decisions in ensuring society's ecological and economic security. The study proved that construction as a branch of material production is one of the main driving forces of the national economy in terms of results and one of the most potent pollutants. The purpose of environmental and economic assessment of losses from the construction industry is to determine the cost-benefit ratio of the construction project in monetary terms with the mandatory comparison of results before and after the implementation of environmental measures. The analysed ecological and economic indicators of the construction industry, the relationship between the volume of construction work by type of construction products and waste generation by type of economic activity allowed to justify the need for approaches to management decisions in environmental management. The study results can help integrate the requirements for managing the impact of production factors on the ecological and economic condition of the country in order to ensure the safe use of natural resources, environmental protection and economic feasibility (profitability) of management decisions in environmental management.

The data (pull of the scientific documents) was generated from the Scopus and Web of Science. There have been done a critical analysis of the literature for evaluating the research in the proposed area. This paper focuses on possible use cases of blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies and considers aspects of technology used to achieve energy efficiency. The findings showed that the technologies are widely applied in energy management. Besides, it is lack of documents that contain the terms ‘energy efficiency and ‘blockchain’. The results of analysis confirm that artificial intelligence has been rapidly integrating with energy management, helping to develop more efficient and secure energy generation techniques.

description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Other literature type 2021Publisher:EDP Sciences Authors: Magdalena Balintova; Yelizaveta Chernysh; Viktoriia Chubur;Today, the global trend in the development of renewable energy sources is the implementation of integrated processing of organic waste with the production of biogenic gases such as biomethane.

Various digital technologies have been developed to enhance energy management to cover these challenges. This article investigates Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence, which have recently attracted increasing attention. The study applies the software of VOSviewer for providing bibliometric analysis.
