Une manifestation non-gravitationnelle de sa présence n'a pas encore été découverte. L'une des techniques les plus prometteuse est la détection indirecte de la MN, consistant à identifier des excès dans les flux de rayons cosmiques pouvant provenir de l'annihilation ou la désintégration de la MN dans le halo de la Voie Lactée. Les efforts expérimentaux actuels se focalisent principalement sur une gamme d'énergie de l'ordre du GeV au TeV, où un signal de WIMP (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles) est attendu. L'analyse des mesures récentes et inédites des rayons cosmiques chargés (antiprotons, électrons et positrons) et leurs émissions secondaires et les améliorations des modèles astrophysiques sont présentées.Les données de PAMELA sur les antiprotons contraignent l'annihilation et la désintégration de la MN de manière similaire (et même légèrement meilleurs) que les contraintes les plus fortes venant des rayons gamma, même dans le cas où les énergies cinétiques inférieures à 10 GeV sont écartées. En choisissant des paramètres astrophysiques différents (modèles de propagation et profils de MN), les contraintes peuvent changer d'un à deux ordres de grandeur. Pour exploiter la totalité de la capacité des antiprotons à contraindre la MN, des effets précédemment négligés sont incorporés et se révèlent être importants dans l'analyse des données inédites de AMS-02 : ajouter les pertes d'énergie, la diffusion dans l'espace des moments et la modulation solaire peut modifier les contraintes, même à de hautes masses. Une mauvaise interprétation des données peut survenir si ces effets ne sont pas pris en compte. Avec les flux de protons et d'hélium exposé par AMS-02, le fond astrophysique et ces incertitudes du ratio antiprotons sur protons sont réévalués et comparés aux données inédites de AMS-02. Aucune indication pour un excès n'est trouvé. Une préférence pour un halo confinant plus large et une dépendance en énergie du coefficient de diffusion plus plate apparaissent. De nouvelles contraintes sur l'annihilation et la désintégration de la MN sont ainsi dérivés.Les émissions secondaires des électrons et des positrons peuvent aussi contraindre l'annihilation et la désintégration de la MN dans le halo galactique : le signal radio dû à la radiation synchrotron des électrons et positrons dans le champs magnétique galactique, les rayons gamma des processus de bremsstrahlung avec le gas galactique et de Compton Inverse avec le champs radiatif interstellaire sont considérés. Différentes configurations de champs magnétique galactique et de modèles de propagation et des cartes de gas et de champs radiatif interstellaire améliorés sont utilisées pour obtenir des outils permettant le calculs des émissions synchrotrons et bremsstrahlung venant de MN de type WIMP. Tous les résultats numériques sont incorporés dans la dernière version du Poor Particle Physicist Coookbook for DM Indirect Detection (PPPC4DMID).Une interprétation d'un possible excès dans les données de rayons gamma de Fermi-LAT au centre galactique comme étant dû à l'annihilation de MN en canaux hadronique et leptonique est analysée. Dans une approche de messagers multiples, le calcul des émissions secondaires est amélioré et se révèle être important pour la détermination du spectre pour le canal leptonique. Ensuite, les limites provenant des antiprotons sur l'annihilation en canal hadronique contraignent sévèrement l'interprétation de cet excès comme étant dû à la MN, dans le cas de paramètres de propagation et de modulation solaire standards. Avec un choix plus conservatif de ces paramètres elles s'assouplissent considérablement. Overwhelming evidence for the existence of Dark Matter (DM), in the form of an unknownparticle filling the galactic halos, originates from many observations in astrophysics and cosmology: its gravitational effects are apparent on galactic rotations, in galaxy clusters and in shaping the large scale structure of the Universe. On the other hand, a non-gravitational manifestation of its presence is yet to be unveiled. One of the most promising techniques is the one of indirect detection, aimed at identifying excesses in cosmic ray fluxes which could possibly be produced by DM annihilations or decays in the Milky Way halo. The current experimental efforts mainly focus in the GeV to TeV energy range, which is also where signals from WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles) are expected. Focussing on charged cosmic rays, in particular antiprotons, electrons and positrons, as well as their secondary emissions, an analysis of current and forseen cosmic ray measurements and improvements on astrophysical models are presented. Antiproton data from PAMELA imposes contraints on annihilating and decaying DM which are similar to (or even slightly stronger than) the most stringent bounds from gamma ray experiments, even when kinetic energies below 10 GeV are discarded. However, choosing different sets of astrophysical parameters, in the form of propagation models and halo profiles, allows the contraints to span over one or two orders of magnitude. In order to exploit fully the power of antiprotons to constrain or discover DM, effects which were previously perceived as subleading turn out to be relevant especially for the analysis of the newly released AMS-02 data. In fact, including energy losses, diffusive reaccelleration and solar modulation can somewhat modify the current bounds, even at large DM masses. A wrong interpretation of the data may arise if they are not taken into account. Finally, using the updated proton and helium fluxes just released by the AMS-02 experiment, the astrophysical antiproton to proton ratio and its uncertainties are reevaluated and compared to the preliminarly reported AMS-02 measurements. No unambiguous evidence for a significant excess with respect to expectations is found. Yet, some preference for thicker halos and a flatter energy dependence of the diffusion coefficient starts to emerge. New stringed constraints on DM annihilation and decay are derived. Secondary emissions from electrons and positrons can also be used to constrain DM annihilation or decay in the galactic halo. The radio signal due to synchrotron radiation of electrons and positrons on the galactic magnetic field, gamma rays from bremsstrahlung processes on the galactic gas densities and from Inverse Compton scattering processes on the interstellar radiation field are considered. With several magnetic field configurations, propagation scenarios and improved gas density maps and interstellar radiation field, state-of-art tools allowing the computaion of synchrotron and bremssttrahlung radiation for any WIMP DM model are provided. All numerical results for DM are incorporated in the release of the Poor Particle Physicist Coookbook for DM Indirect Detection (PPPC4DMID). Finally, the possible GeV gamma-ray excess identified in the Fermi-LAT data from the Galactic Center in terms of DM annihilation, either in hadronic or leptonic channels is studied. In order to test this tantalizing interprestation, a multi-messenger approach is used: first, the computation of secondary emisison from DM with respect to previous works confirms it to be relevant for determining the DM spectrum in leptonic channels. Second, limits from antiprotons severely constrain the DM interpretation of the excess in the hadronic channel, for standard assumptions on the Galactic propagation parameters and solar modulation. However, they considerably relax if more conservative choices are adopted.

This association is due to the present trend in the field, knowing that the major drawback of the HEV is the autonomy problem. Thus, using the Hybrid energy source (such as UC + battery) and with a good energy management improves the HEV performances. In this paper, battery and Ultracapacitors (10 cells of 2.7V in series) are coupled to DC-bus using two buck-boost converters. The main contribution of this paper is focused on DC-bus voltage and currents control strategy based on polynomial (RST) controller. Through some simulations in MATLAB/Simulink software and experimental results, the authors present an improved energy management for HEV.

After a halt of four years, the n TOF spallation neutron facility at CERN has resumed operation in November 2008 with a new spallation target characterized by an improved safety and engineering design, resulting in a more robust overall performance and e cient cooling. The rst measurement during the 2009 run has aimed at the full characterization of the neutron beam. Several detectors, such as calibrated ssion chambers, the n TOF Silicon Monitor, a Mi- croMegas detector with 10B and 235U samples, as well as liquid and solid scintillators have been used in order to characterize the properties of the neutron uence. Their inconvenient is the high energy consumption. In order to produce the oxygen needed for oxycombustion with low energy costs, a diabatic distillation column for cryogenic air separation is designed and modeled. It consists of a shell and tubes heat exchanger where the tubes constitute a first column operating at low pressure and the shell a second one operating at high pressure. Coupled mass and heat transfers are modeled and the diabatic column simulated. A comparative exergy analysis between three types of distillation columns for cryogenic air separation shows that the exergy efficiency of the diabatic column designed is 23 % higher than that of the conventional double columns. The distribution of the mixtures in the tubes and the shell is a key point in the distillation process in the shell and tubes heat exchanger. The different forms of uneven distribution are studied and solutions are proposed. A pilot is designed in order to validate experimentally the theoretical concept of diabatic distillation of cryogenic air.; Les colonnes de distillation de l'air constituent l'un des procédés principaux de séparation des composants de l'air mais posent le problème des consommations énergétiques élevées. Dans le but de produire les quantités d'oxygène nécessaire pour les procédés d'oxycombustion à faibles coûts énergétiques, une colonne de distillation diabatique pour la séparation de l'air cryogénique est conçue et modélisée. Elle consiste en un échangeur tubes-calandre où les tubes constituent une première colonne opérant à basse pression et la calandre en constitue une deuxième opérant à haute pression. Les transferts de masse et de chaleur couplés sont modélisés et le fonctionnement de la colonne est simulé. Une analyse exergétique comparative entre trois types de colonnes de distillation d'air cryogénique montre que l'efficacité exergétique de la colonne diabatique conçue est 23 % fois plus élevée que celle des colonnes doubles conventionnelles. This combustor, developed at the EM2C Laboratory to study Lean Premixed Prevaporized (LPP) burners, is composed of a two-stage injection system: a central swirled pilot stage fueled with a pressure-swirl atomizer, to sustain a piloting flame, and an outer swirled stage fed with a multi-point injection, to generate the LPP regime. After ignition in the pilot-only operating condition, a V flame is stabilized near the Inner Shear Layer (ISL). When switching to multipoint-only injection, a flame shape transition is observed and the flame bifurcates into a M-shape. In this work, we identify the mechanisms that lead to this bifurcation, and we show that the transition is driven by a complex coupling between the flame, the chamber acoustics and the ISL vortices. By switching to a multipoint-only injection, the fuel is essentially given to the ISL flame, which is mainly premixed. Because of the increased heat release rate and thanks to positive Rayleigh criterion, the quarter wave mode of the chamber is promoted. The ISL vortices, locked to this mode, increase in size until they are large enough to merge the flame in the CRZ, the radial momentum budget forcing the flow topology to switch to a bubble-like structure. Therefore, these results show that it is the existence of two possible flow topologies that renders this flame shape transition possible, the instability being responsible for transferring sufficient energy to the flow to enable the transitioning and the flame then changing its shape simply to adapt to the new topology.

The ISL vortices, locked to this mode, increase in size until they are large enough to merge the flame in the CRZ, the radial momentum budget forcing the flow topology to switch to a bubble-like structure. Therefore, these results show that it is the existence of two possible flow topologies that renders this flame shape transition possible, the instability being responsible for transferring sufficient energy to the flow to enable the transitioning and the flame then changing its shape simply to adapt to the new topology.

The present study questions the sensitivity and the accuracy of Raman spectroscopy as a tool for determining the maturity of natural organic matter (NOM). It focuses on the definition of optimized experimental parameters in order to maximize the quality of the Raman signal and control the accuracy and reproducibility of measurements. A series of 11 coals has been investigated, sampling a wide maturity range (2-7% vitrinite reflectance VR). The role of experimental parameters is first investigated. An excitation wavelength of 514.5 nm gives better results than 457.9 and 632.8 nm, minimizing the fluorescence background observed in the spectra of low-rank coals. Both Raman and fluorescence spectra were investigated with time-resolved experiments in air and argon. These data show that fluorescence and Raman spectra are sensitive to acquisition time and laser power parameters, and reveal a physicochemical instability of the samples under laser irradiation, mostly due to photo-oxidation processes. These data clearly show that the experiments, especially in air, should be performed with strictly constant acquisition parameters. In addition, the results of a whole series of coal measurements performed in air under constant experimental conditions show that Raman spectroscopy is definitely sensitive to the maturity of coal samples with VR> approximately 1%. The most sensitive spectral maturity tracers are the width of the D-band (FWHM-D), the ratio of the peak intensities of the D- and G-bands (I(D)/I(G)), the normalized ratio of the band integrated intensities A(D)/[A(D)+A(G)] for the maturity range VR=3-7% and the width of the G-band (FWHM-G) for VR=1-5%. However, the accuracy and reproducibility are definitely weaker in such measurements compared to the standard VR. Future work must solve the problem of sample stability under laser irradiation, and greatly increase the number of samples to improve the statistical significance of the results.

The Wave Energy Converter (WEC) is a floating elastic tube filled with slightly pressurised sea water. It is made of Electroactive Polymers (EAPs).Under simplifying assumptions, a set of governing equations is formulated for the flow inside the tube, the flow outside the tube and the behaviour of the tube wall. By combining them, the evolution of the flow velocity in the tube can be written as a wave equation. The corresponding eigenmodes of vibration are calculated. Then, using spectral decomposition, the equation of motion for the response of the tube in waves is derived. Experiments were carried out on a scale model of the wave energy converter in the wave tank of Ecole Centrale de Nantes in 2011. Numerical results are compared with experimental results in regular waves, showing rather good agreement, which validates the model and the initial modelling assumptions. Finally, estimates are made for the energy performance of a possible prototype.

Frond biomass was reduced between 70 and 77%. Compared to sub-critical conditions, supercritical conditions decreased C and inorganic contents in both the solid and liquid phases for uncontaminated and contaminated fronds and promoted CH4 formation. Higher As, Fe and Zn contents in contaminated fronds promoted decreasing C contents and the formations of cyclopentenones and benzenediols in the liquid phase. Al, Fe, P, Zn and Ca mainly remained in the solid phase whereas As and S were transferred to the liquid phase for both phytomasses. As the temperature increased from 300 °C to 400 °C, the concentrations of cyclopentenones and phenols in the liquid phase rose while those of guaiacols and other compounds decreased for both phytomasses. Arsenic in the liquid phase was removed by sorption on hydrous iron oxide.

Frond biomass was reduced between 70 and 77%. Compared to sub-critical conditions, supercritical conditions decreased C and inorganic contents in both the solid and liquid phases for uncontaminated and contaminated fronds and promoted CH4 formation. Higher As, Fe and Zn contents in contaminated fronds promoted decreasing C contents and the formations of cyclopentenones and benzenediols in the liquid phase. Al, Fe, P, Zn and Ca mainly remained in the solid phase whereas As and S were transferred to the liquid phase for both phytomasses. As the temperature increased from 300 °C to 400 °C, the concentrations of cyclopentenones and phenols in the liquid phase rose while those of guaiacols and other compounds decreased for both phytomasses. Arsenic in the liquid phase was removed by sorption on hydrous iron oxide.

Because of these phenomena, water can be collected in the sump containment, inducing further heat and mass exchanges between the sump surface and the atmosphere. Considering the large volume of the reactor containment, LP (0D) codes are preferred to CFD calculations, which still remain a very challenging task to compute. The French IRSN has tested different tools for containment studies with lumped-parameter codes and the reference code is now ASTEC/CPA, so that mainly results of this code will be presented here. This paper focuses mainly on several IRSN tests especially developed for containment studies and the above mentioned thermal-hydraulical phenomena. The objective of this paper is to present the validations performed with LP codes on these different experimental tests. Experiments on the TOSQAN facility are considered.

Une manifestation non-gravitationnelle de sa présence n'a pas encore été découverte. L'une des techniques les plus prometteuse est la détection indirecte de la MN, consistant à identifier des excès dans les flux de rayons cosmiques pouvant provenir de l'annihilation ou la désintégration de la MN dans le halo de la Voie Lactée. Les efforts expérimentaux actuels se focalisent principalement sur une gamme d'énergie de l'ordre du GeV au TeV, où un signal de WIMP (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles) est attendu. L'analyse des mesures récentes et inédites des rayons cosmiques chargés (antiprotons, électrons et positrons) et leurs émissions secondaires et les améliorations des modèles astrophysiques sont présentées.Les données de PAMELA sur les antiprotons contraignent l'annihilation et la désintégration de la MN de manière similaire (et même légèrement meilleurs) que les contraintes les plus fortes venant des rayons gamma, même dans le cas où les énergies cinétiques inférieures à 10 GeV sont écartées. En choisissant des paramètres astrophysiques différents (modèles de propagation et profils de MN), les contraintes peuvent changer d'un à deux ordres de grandeur. Pour exploiter la totalité de la capacité des antiprotons à contraindre la MN, des effets précédemment négligés sont incorporés et se révèlent être importants dans l'analyse des données inédites de AMS-02 : ajouter les pertes d'énergie, la diffusion dans l'espace des moments et la modulation solaire peut modifier les contraintes, même à de hautes masses. Une mauvaise interprétation des données peut survenir si ces effets ne sont pas pris en compte. Avec les flux de protons et d'hélium exposé par AMS-02, le fond astrophysique et ces incertitudes du ratio antiprotons sur protons sont réévalués et comparés aux données inédites de AMS-02. Aucune indication pour un excès n'est trouvé. Une préférence pour un halo confinant plus large et une dépendance en énergie du coefficient de diffusion plus plate apparaissent. De nouvelles contraintes sur l'annihilation et la désintégration de la MN sont ainsi dérivés.Les émissions secondaires des électrons et des positrons peuvent aussi contraindre l'annihilation et la désintégration de la MN dans le halo galactique : le signal radio dû à la radiation synchrotron des électrons et positrons dans le champs magnétique galactique, les rayons gamma des processus de bremsstrahlung avec le gas galactique et de Compton Inverse avec le champs radiatif interstellaire sont considérés. Différentes configurations de champs magnétique galactique et de modèles de propagation et des cartes de gas et de champs radiatif interstellaire améliorés sont utilisées pour obtenir des outils permettant le calculs des émissions synchrotrons et bremsstrahlung venant de MN de type WIMP. Tous les résultats numériques sont incorporés dans la dernière version du Poor Particle Physicist Coookbook for DM Indirect Detection (PPPC4DMID).Une interprétation d'un possible excès dans les données de rayons gamma de Fermi-LAT au centre galactique comme étant dû à l'annihilation de MN en canaux hadronique et leptonique est analysée. Dans une approche de messagers multiples, le calcul des émissions secondaires est amélioré et se révèle être important pour la détermination du spectre pour le canal leptonique. Ensuite, les limites provenant des antiprotons sur l'annihilation en canal hadronique contraignent sévèrement l'interprétation de cet excès comme étant dû à la MN, dans le cas de paramètres de propagation et de modulation solaire standards. Avec un choix plus conservatif de ces paramètres elles s'assouplissent considérablement. Overwhelming evidence for the existence of Dark Matter (DM), in the form of an unknownparticle filling the galactic halos, originates from many observations in astrophysics and cosmology: its gravitational effects are apparent on galactic rotations, in galaxy clusters and in shaping the large scale structure of the Universe. On the other hand, a non-gravitational manifestation of its presence is yet to be unveiled. One of the most promising techniques is the one of indirect detection, aimed at identifying excesses in cosmic ray fluxes which could possibly be produced by DM annihilations or decays in the Milky Way halo. The current experimental efforts mainly focus in the GeV to TeV energy range, which is also where signals from WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles) are expected. Focussing on charged cosmic rays, in particular antiprotons, electrons and positrons, as well as their secondary emissions, an analysis of current and forseen cosmic ray measurements and improvements on astrophysical models are presented. Antiproton data from PAMELA imposes contraints on annihilating and decaying DM which are similar to (or even slightly stronger than) the most stringent bounds from gamma ray experiments, even when kinetic energies below 10 GeV are discarded. However, choosing different sets of astrophysical parameters, in the form of propagation models and halo profiles, allows the contraints to span over one or two orders of magnitude. In order to exploit fully the power of antiprotons to constrain or discover DM, effects which were previously perceived as subleading turn out to be relevant especially for the analysis of the newly released AMS-02 data. In fact, including energy losses, diffusive reaccelleration and solar modulation can somewhat modify the current bounds, even at large DM masses. A wrong interpretation of the data may arise if they are not taken into account. Finally, using the updated proton and helium fluxes just released by the AMS-02 experiment, the astrophysical antiproton to proton ratio and its uncertainties are reevaluated and compared to the preliminarly reported AMS-02 measurements. No unambiguous evidence for a significant excess with respect to expectations is found. Yet, some preference for thicker halos and a flatter energy dependence of the diffusion coefficient starts to emerge. New stringed constraints on DM annihilation and decay are derived. Secondary emissions from electrons and positrons can also be used to constrain DM annihilation or decay in the galactic halo. The radio signal due to synchrotron radiation of electrons and positrons on the galactic magnetic field, gamma rays from bremsstrahlung processes on the galactic gas densities and from Inverse Compton scattering processes on the interstellar radiation field are considered. With several magnetic field configurations, propagation scenarios and improved gas density maps and interstellar radiation field, state-of-art tools allowing the computaion of synchrotron and bremssttrahlung radiation for any WIMP DM model are provided. All numerical results for DM are incorporated in the release of the Poor Particle Physicist Coookbook for DM Indirect Detection (PPPC4DMID). Finally, the possible GeV gamma-ray excess identified in the Fermi-LAT data from the Galactic Center in terms of DM annihilation, either in hadronic or leptonic channels is studied. In order to test this tantalizing interprestation, a multi-messenger approach is used: first, the computation of secondary emisison from DM with respect to previous works confirms it to be relevant for determining the DM spectrum in leptonic channels. Second, limits from antiprotons severely constrain the DM interpretation of the excess in the hadronic channel, for standard assumptions on the Galactic propagation parameters and solar modulation. However, they considerably relax if more conservative choices are adopted.

With several magnetic field configurations, propagation scenarios and improved gas density maps and interstellar radiation field, state-of-art tools allowing the computaion of synchrotron and bremssttrahlung radiation for any WIMP DM model are provided. All numerical results for DM are incorporated in the release of the Poor Particle Physicist Coookbook for DM Indirect Detection (PPPC4DMID). Finally, the possible GeV gamma-ray excess identified in the Fermi-LAT data from the Galactic Center in terms of DM annihilation, either in hadronic or leptonic channels is studied. In order to test this tantalizing interprestation, a multi-messenger approach is used: first, the computation of secondary emisison from DM with respect to previous works confirms it to be relevant for determining the DM spectrum in leptonic channels. Second, limits from antiprotons severely constrain the DM interpretation of the excess in the hadronic channel, for standard assumptions on the Galactic propagation parameters and solar modulation. However, they considerably relax if more conservative choices are adopted.

This association is due to the present trend in the field, knowing that the major drawback of the HEV is the autonomy problem. Thus, using the Hybrid energy source (such as UC + battery) and with a good energy management improves the HEV performances. In this paper, battery and Ultracapacitors (10 cells of 2.7V in series) are coupled to DC-bus using two buck-boost converters. The main contribution of this paper is focused on DC-bus voltage and currents control strategy based on polynomial (RST) controller. Through some simulations in MATLAB/Simulink software and experimental results, the authors present an improved energy management for HEV.

After a halt of four years, the n TOF spallation neutron facility at CERN has resumed operation in November 2008 with a new spallation target characterized by an improved safety and engineering design, resulting in a more robust overall performance and e cient cooling. Their inconvenient is the high energy consumption. In order to produce the oxygen needed for oxycombustion with low energy costs, a diabatic distillation column for cryogenic air separation is designed and modeled. It consists of a shell and tubes heat exchanger where the tubes constitute a first column operating at low pressure and the shell a second one operating at high pressure. Coupled mass and heat transfers are modeled and the diabatic column simulated. A comparative exergy analysis between three types of distillation columns for cryogenic air separation shows that the exergy efficiency of the diabatic column designed is 23 % higher than that of the conventional double columns. The distribution of the mixtures in the tubes and the shell is a key point in the distillation process in the shell and tubes heat exchanger. The different forms of uneven distribution are studied and solutions are proposed. A pilot is designed in order to validate experimentally the theoretical concept of diabatic distillation of cryogenic air.; Les colonnes de distillation de l'air constituent l'un des procédés principaux de séparation des composants de l'air mais posent le problème des consommations énergétiques élevées. Dans le but de produire les quantités d'oxygène nécessaire pour les procédés d'oxycombustion à faibles coûts énergétiques, une colonne de distillation diabatique pour la séparation de l'air cryogénique est conçue et modélisée. Elle consiste en un échangeur tubes-calandre où les tubes constituent une première colonne opérant à basse pression et la calandre en constitue une deuxième opérant à haute pression. Les transferts de masse et de chaleur couplés sont modélisés et le fonctionnement de la colonne est simulé. Une analyse exergétique comparative entre trois types de colonnes de distillation d'air cryogénique montre que l'efficacité exergétique de la colonne diabatique conçue est 23 % fois plus élevée que celle des colonnes doubles conventionnelles. La distribution des mélanges dans les tubes et dans la calandre est un point clé dans le procédé de distillation dans l'échangeur tubes-calandre. Les différentes formes de mal répartition sont étudiées et des solutions proposées. Une colonne pilote est dimensionnée pour valider expérimentalement le concept théorique de la distillation diabatique de l'air cryogénique.

Their inconvenient is the high energy consumption. In order to produce the oxygen needed for oxycombustion with low energy costs, a diabatic distillation column for cryogenic air separation is designed and modeled. It consists of a shell and tubes heat exchanger where the tubes constitute a first column operating at low pressure and the shell a second one operating at high pressure. Coupled mass and heat transfers are modeled and the diabatic column simulated. A comparative exergy analysis between three types of distillation columns for cryogenic air separation shows that the exergy efficiency of the diabatic column designed is 23 % higher than that of the conventional double columns. The distribution of the mixtures in the tubes and the shell is a key point in the distillation process in the shell and tubes heat exchanger. The different forms of uneven distribution are studied and solutions are proposed. A pilot is designed in order to validate experimentally the theoretical concept of diabatic distillation of cryogenic air.; Les colonnes de distillation de l'air constituent l'un des procédés principaux de séparation des composants de l'air mais posent le problème des consommations énergétiques élevées. Dans le but de produire les quantités d'oxygène nécessaire pour les procédés d'oxycombustion à faibles coûts énergétiques, une colonne de distillation diabatique pour la séparation de l'air cryogénique est conçue et modélisée. Elle consiste en un échangeur tubes-calandre où les tubes constituent une première colonne opérant à basse pression et la calandre en constitue une deuxième opérant à haute pression. Les transferts de masse et de chaleur couplés sont modélisés et le fonctionnement de la colonne est simulé. Une analyse exergétique comparative entre trois types de colonnes de distillation d'air cryogénique montre que l'efficacité exergétique de la colonne diabatique conçue est 23 % fois plus élevée que celle des colonnes doubles conventionnelles. La distribution des mélanges dans les tubes et dans la calandre est un point clé dans le procédé de distillation dans l'échangeur tubes-calandre. Les différentes formes de mal répartition sont étudiées et des solutions proposées. Une colonne pilote est dimensionnée pour valider expérimentalement le concept théorique de la distillation diabatique de l'air cryogénique.

This combustor, developed at the EM2C Laboratory to study Lean Premixed Prevaporized (LPP) burners, is composed of a two-stage injection system: a central swirled pilot stage fueled with a pressure-swirl atomizer, to sustain a piloting flame, and an outer swirled stage fed with a multi-point injection, to generate the LPP regime. After ignition in the pilot-only operating condition, a V flame is stabilized near the Inner Shear Layer (ISL). When switching to multipoint-only injection, a flame shape transition is observed and the flame bifurcates into a M-shape. In this work, we identify the mechanisms that lead to this bifurcation, and we show that the transition is driven by a complex coupling between the flame, the chamber acoustics and the ISL vortices. By switching to a multipoint-only injection, the fuel is essentially given to the ISL flame, which is mainly premixed. Because of the increased heat release rate and thanks to positive Rayleigh criterion, the quarter wave mode of the chamber is promoted. The ISL vortices, locked to this mode, increase in size until they are large enough to merge the flame in the CRZ, the radial momentum budget forcing the flow topology to switch to a bubble-like structure. Therefore, these results show that it is the existence of two possible flow topologies that renders this flame shape transition possible, the instability being responsible for transferring sufficient energy to the flow to enable the transitioning and the flame then changing its shape simply to adapt to the new topology.

The present study questions the sensitivity and the accuracy of Raman spectroscopy as a tool for determining the maturity of natural organic matter (NOM). It focuses on the definition of optimized experimental parameters in order to maximize the quality of the Raman signal and control the accuracy and reproducibility of measurements. A series of 11 coals has been investigated, sampling a wide maturity range (2-7% vitrinite reflectance VR). The role of experimental parameters is first investigated. An excitation wavelength of 514.5 nm gives better results than 457.9 and 632.8 nm, minimizing the fluorescence background observed in the spectra of low-rank coals. Both Raman and fluorescence spectra were investigated with time-resolved experiments in air and argon. These data show that fluorescence and Raman spectra are sensitive to acquisition time and laser power parameters, and reveal a physicochemical instability of the samples under laser irradiation, mostly due to photo-oxidation processes. These data clearly show that the experiments, especially in air, should be performed with strictly constant acquisition parameters. In addition, the results of a whole series of coal measurements performed in air under constant experimental conditions show that Raman spectroscopy is definitely sensitive to the maturity of coal samples with VR> approximately 1%. The most sensitive spectral maturity tracers are the width of the D-band (FWHM-D), the ratio of the peak intensities of the D- and G-bands (I(D)/I(G)), the normalized ratio of the band integrated intensities A(D)/[A(D)+A(G)] for the maturity range VR=3-7% and the width of the G-band (FWHM-G) for VR=1-5%. However, the accuracy and reproducibility are definitely weaker in such measurements compared to the standard VR. Future work must solve the problem of sample stability under laser irradiation, and greatly increase the number of samples to improve the statistical significance of the results.

The Wave Energy Converter (WEC) is a floating elastic tube filled with slightly pressurised sea water. It is made of Electroactive Polymers (EAPs).Under simplifying assumptions, a set of governing equations is formulated for the flow inside the tube, the flow outside the tube and the behaviour of the tube wall. By combining them, the evolution of the flow velocity in the tube can be written as a wave equation. The corresponding eigenmodes of vibration are calculated. Then, using spectral decomposition, the equation of motion for the response of the tube in waves is derived. Experiments were carried out on a scale model of the wave energy converter in the wave tank of Ecole Centrale de Nantes in 2011. Numerical results are compared with experimental results in regular waves, showing rather good agreement, which validates the model and the initial modelling assumptions. Finally, estimates are made for the energy performance of a possible prototype.

It is made of Electroactive Polymers (EAPs).Under simplifying assumptions, a set of governing equations is formulated for the flow inside the tube, the flow outside the tube and the behaviour of the tube wall. By combining them, the evolution of the flow velocity in the tube can be written as a wave equation. The corresponding eigenmodes of vibration are calculated. Then, using spectral decomposition, the equation of motion for the response of the tube in waves is derived. Experiments were carried out on a scale model of the wave energy converter in the wave tank of Ecole Centrale de Nantes in 2011. Numerical results are compared with experimental results in regular waves, showing rather good agreement, which validates the model and the initial modelling assumptions. Finally, estimates are made for the energy performance of a possible prototype.

Frond biomass was reduced between 70 and 77%. Compared to sub-critical conditions, supercritical conditions decreased C and inorganic contents in both the solid and liquid phases for uncontaminated and contaminated fronds and promoted CH4 formation. Higher As, Fe and Zn contents in contaminated fronds promoted decreasing C contents and the formations of cyclopentenones and benzenediols in the liquid phase. Al, Fe, P, Zn and Ca mainly remained in the solid phase whereas As and S were transferred to the liquid phase for both phytomasses. As the temperature increased from 300 °C to 400 °C, the concentrations of cyclopentenones and phenols in the liquid phase rose while those of guaiacols and other compounds decreased for both phytomasses. Arsenic in the liquid phase was removed by sorption on hydrous iron oxide.

Because of these phenomena, water can be collected in the sump containment, inducing further heat and mass exchanges between the sump surface and the atmosphere. Considering the large volume of the reactor containment, LP (0D) codes are preferred to CFD calculations, which still remain a very challenging task to compute. The French IRSN has tested different tools for containment studies with lumped-parameter codes and the reference code is now ASTEC/CPA, so that mainly results of this code will be presented here. This paper focuses mainly on several IRSN tests especially developed for containment studies and the above mentioned thermal-hydraulical phenomena. The objective of this paper is to present the validations performed with LP codes on these different experimental tests. Experiments on the TOSQAN facility are considered.
