Tanweer Alam in OpenAIRE<span>In the health sector, the computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system is a rapidly growing technology because medical diagnostic systems make a huge change as compared to the traditional system. Now a day huge availability of medical data and it needs a proper system to extract them into useful knowledge. Heart disease accounts to be the leading cause of death worldwide. Heuristic algorithms have been exposed to be operative in supporting making decisions and classification from the large quantity of data produced by the healthcare sector. Classification is a prevailing heuristic approach which is commonly used for classification purpose some heuristic algorithm predicts accurate result according to the marks whereas some others exhibit limited accuracy. This paper is used to categorize the attendance of heart disease with a compact number of aspects. Original, 13 attributes are involved in classifying heart disease. A reasonable analysis of these techniques was done to conclude how the cooperative techniques can be applied for improving prediction accuracy in heart disease. Four main classifiers used to construct heart disease prediction based on the experimental results demonstrate that support vector machine, artificial bee colony (ABC), Bat algorithm, and memory-based learner (MBL) provide efficient results. The accuracy differs between 13 features and 8 features in the training dataset is 1.9% and in the validation, dataset is 0.92% of vector machine which is the most accurate heuristic algorithm. </span>

Hensley in OpenAIRE(Uploaded by Plazi for the Bat Literature Project) Climate change is predicted to result in changes in the geographic ranges and local prevalence of infectious diseases, either through direct effects on the pathogen, or indirectly through range shifts in vector and reservoir species. To better understand the occurrence of monkeypox virus (MPXV), an emerging Orthopoxvirus in humans, under contemporary and future climate conditions, we used ecological niche modeling techniques in conjunction with climate and remote-sensing variables. We first created spatially explicit probability distributions of its candidate reservoir species in Africa's Congo Basin. Reservoir species distributions were subsequently used to model current and projected future distributions of human monkeypox (MPX). Results indicate that forest clearing and climate are significant driving factors of the transmission of MPX from wildlife to humans under current climate conditions. Models under contemporary climate conditions performed well, as indicated by high values for the area under the receiver operator curve (AUC), and tests on spatially randomly and non-randomly omitted test data. Future projections were made on IPCC 4(th) Assessment climate change scenarios for 2050 and 2080, ranging from more conservative to more aggressive, and representing the potential variation within which range shifts can be expected to occur. Future projections showed range shifts into regions where MPX has not been recorded previously. Increased suitability for MPX was predicted in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Models developed here are useful for identifying areas where environmental conditions may become more suitable for human MPX; targeting candidate reservoir species for future screening efforts; and prioritizing regions for future MPX surveillance efforts.

Luis M. Romero-Rodríguez in OpenAIREYouth is increasingly learning in non-conventional contexts, such as social networks or video platforms, courses, and tutorials. This research aims to diagnose the role of participatory culture, digital resources, social networks, and, specifically, YouTube, in learning processes and the acquisition of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills, specifically in mathematics, also analyzing the role of youtubers and, in contrast, teachers, both learning leaders in the formation of these skills. In order to accomplish this, mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) were used, based on a survey applied to 4845 Italian adolescents, as well as a content analysis of the videos and YouTube channel of the Italian educational influencer Elia Bombardelli, one of the most followed and best rated in this country. Also, an in-depth interview has been applied to 12 Italian secondary school teachers. Among the main findings, it is highlighted that all adolescents value YouTube videos as a key resource to improve their school performance, rating youtubers better than teachers. However, it is remarkable that in the processes of learning and acquisition of STEM competencies, they prefer to interact with teachers rather than with youtubers.

Krzysztof Fic in OpenAIREThis paper reports on the “water-in-salt” electrolyte concept, applying CsF as an ionic compound in a symmetric electrochemical capacitor. CsF has been selected as a highly soluble inorganic salt that allows the amount of free water in the electrolyte to be significantly reduced. Several activated carbons with various microtextural parameters have been investigated to identify the most suitable electrode material. A wide range of electrolyte concentrations have been investigated in terms of conductivity, pH and viscosity. The electrochemical characteristics have been determined for three electrolyte concentrations and indicate critical changes in the electrolyte physicochemical properties. It seems that ion-solvent interactions, residual water content, electrolyte viscosity and charging/discharging conditions remarkably affect the electrochemical performance of capacitors with elevated concentrations of electrolyte. In addition to the capacitance increase, a positive impact on the self-discharge and charge/discharge efficiency has been observed for higher CsF concentrations.

Abstract Biomass gasification is a promising technology to produce secondary fuels or heat and power, offering considerable advantages over fossil fuels. An important aspect in the usage of producer gas is the removal of harmful contaminants from the raw syngas. Thus, the object of this study is the development of a simulation model for a gasifier including gas clean-up, for which a fluidized-bed gasifier for biomass-derived syngas production was considered, based on a quasi-equilibrium approach through Gibbs free energy minimisation, and including an innovative hot gas cleaning, constituted by a combination of catalyst sorbents inside the gasification reactor, catalysts in the freeboard and subsequent sorbent reactors, by using Aspen Plus software. The gas cleaning chain simulates the raw syngas clean-up for several organic and inorganic contaminants, i.e. toluene, benzene, naphthalene, hydrogen sulphide, hydrogen chloride and ammonia. The tar and inorganic contaminants final values achieved are under 1 g/Nm3 and 1 ppm respectively.

Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), 1 of the most common developmental disabilities in the United States, occurs at a rate of 0.5-2.0:1000 live births. Animal model, family, and twin studies suggest a genetic component to FAS susceptibility. Alcohol dehydrogenases (ADHs) catalyze the rate-limiting step in alcohol metabolism. Studies of genetic associations with FAS have focused on the alcohol dehydrogenase 1B (ADH1B) gene, comparing mothers and children with the alleles ADH1B*2 or ADH1B*3, associated with faster ethanol metabolism, with those homozygous for ADH1B*1. While most studies have found a protective effect for genotypes containing ADH1B*2 or ADH1B*3, results have been conflicting, and further investigation into the association between the ADH1B genotype and FAS is needed. Whether increased alcohol intake accounts for the elevated risk reported for the ADH1B*1/ADH1B*1 genotype should be addressed, and future studies would benefit from consistent case definitions, enhanced exposure measurements, larger sample sizes, and careful study design.

The understanding of role of increasing temperatures and heat waves on altered mental health conditions stands crucial, in light of wide spectrum of effects warming climate imparts on mental health and well-being status. Methodology: Research studies with findings related to increasing temperatures, mental health and behavioural alterations, and psychopathological outcomes are highlighted in this review. Articles were searched using Google Scholar from the year 2005 to 2018 by entering keywords; increasing temperature and mental health, heat waves and mental health, heat waves and behavioural disorders, climate change and mental health, and, global warming and mental health. Studies were also selected from reference lists of the articles emerging out from these keywords provided. Newspaper articles and reports with details of heat waves in Pakistan are also included. Results: Extreme heat exposure event is found to result in adverse mental, mood and behavioural consequences; including anxiety, aggression, and violence. Heat waves are found to potentiate risk for hospital admission, also due to mental disorders. Heat-associated mental health alterations may be attributed to compromised thermoregulation, pre-existing mental illness, old age, substance abuse and prescription medications effects, and up-regulation in release of stress hormones. Conclusion: Keeping in view the impact of warming climate on mental and behavioural disorders, it appears significantly important to promote research aiming to decipher heat-induced mental health outcomes. In particular, studies are encouraged to be carried out to understand effects of increasing temperatures and heat waves on impaired mental health and psychological well-being state, develop heat-associated mental health mass awareness campaigns, and plan mental health response actions in Pakistan, which currently remain under-represented.

A lack of ADH activity also is usually seen in wild-caught males, although relatively high activity is always seen in female flies. In the present study we examined the effectiveness of different alcohols and related compounds, including several found naturally in necroses of the host cactus, to induce suppressed ADH activity in wild males of D. pachea and to serve as enzyme substrates. The primary alcohols (methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 1-butanol, and 1-pentanol), and the secondary alcohols (2-propanol and 2-butanol), each induced activity after 24 h exposure, although to different degrees. 1,2-Propanediol was usually effective as an inducer, but 2,3-butanediol usually was ineffective. Little or no induction was seen with 1-octanol, 2-pentanol, 3-methyl-1-butanol, 3-hydroxy-2-butanone, or acetaldehyde. Although the compounds tested varied in their ability to function as ADH substrates, methanol was the only alcohol that showed no activity staining. Ethanol induction of ADH activity was apparent after 3-6 h exposure and induced activity decreased dramatically within 1 week of flies being placed in an alcohol-free environment. Ethanol exposure did not induce ADH in adult female D. pachea, or in adult males and females of D. acutilabella in which control males show reduced ADH activity compared to females. The implications of the loss of ADH activity in adult males of D. pachea, as they relate to feeding ecology and fitness, are discussed.

The systemic administration of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) LPA1/3 receptor antagonists is a promising clinical tool for cancer, sclerosis and fibrosis-related diseases. Since LPA1 receptor-null mice engage in increased ethanol consumption, we evaluated the effects of systemic administration of an LPA1/3 receptor antagonist (intraperitoneal ki16425, 20 mg/kg) on ethanol-related behaviors as well as on brain and plasma correlates. Acute administration of ki16425 reduced motivation for ethanol but not for saccharine in ethanol self-administering Wistar rats. Mouse experiments were conducted in two different strains. In Swiss mice, ki16425 treatment reduced both ethanol-induced sedation (loss of righting reflex, LORR) and ethanol reward (escalation in ethanol consumption and ethanol-induced conditioned place preference, CPP). Furthermore, in the CPP-trained Swiss mice, ki16425 prevented the effects of ethanol on basal c-Fos expression in the medial prefrontal cortex and on adult neurogenesis in the hippocampus. In the c57BL6/J mouse strain, however, no effects of ki16425 on LORR or voluntary drinking were observed. The c57BL6/J mouse strain was then evaluated for ethanol withdrawal symptoms, which were attenuated when ethanol was preceded by ki16425 administration. In these animals, ki16425 modulated the expression of glutamate-related genes in brain limbic regions after ethanol exposure; and peripheral LPA signaling was dysregulated by either ki16425 or ethanol. Overall, these results suggest that LPA1/3 receptor antagonists might be a potential new class of drugs that are suitable for treating or preventing alcohol use disorders. A pharmacokinetic study revealed that systemic ki16425 showed poor brain penetration, suggesting the involvement of peripheral events to explain its effects.
