In reality however, it is hard toestablish how blockchain can be utilized and what opportunities blockchain may create. Theunclear future of blockchain constitutes a challenge for many companies. Many large incumbentsare uncertain of how to implement blockchain technology in their organization and are anxiousabout the consequences of the new technology. The purpose of this exploratory study is to evaluateblockchain applications for a district heating company in Stockholm to understand favorable areas,necessary criteria for successful implementation and how blockchain could enable new businessopportunities in the district heating market. To be able to reach the purpose of the thesis aliterature study and an empirical study were performed. The literature study is in the form of anextensive investigation about the areas of blockchain and district heating. The empirical studyincludes 17 interviews, both internal interviews with employees at Stockholm Exergi and externalinterviews conducted with professionals with knowledge about blockchain, district heating and theenergy sector. Furthermore, two workshops, in collaboration with Stockholm Exergi, wereperformed at the end of the thesis to evaluate and prioritize the developed blockchain applications.This thesis proposes 32 blockchain applications within 10 areas in the district heating industry.The applications are categorized after their potential, in three categories; green for the blockchainapplications that are valuable to investigate further, orange for the applications that potentiallycould be interesting to investigate further, and red for the applications that are not interesting toinvestigate further. Some applications focus on solving inefficiencies within district heating andsome on exploiting the benefits of blockchain. Eight applications are categorized with greenprioritization, and thus presented in more detail. To take into account that blockchain probablywill have a greater impact in the future, a future scenario was developed and used in the situationalanalysis for the applications. Furthermore, a framework was developed with the aim to be a toolfor a district heating company to utilize while considering if a blockchain implementation wouldbe beneficial, and if so, in what way. The framework is focused on district heating companies butcan be utilized by other actors as well.Our recommendation for a district heating company in Stockholm is to wait one or two yearswhile staying updated. Especially important for the companies are to stay updated on whether newblockchain standardizations will emerge in the energy sector. However, if a district heatingcompany want to initialize a blockchain project we advise the companies to start a pilot projectthat does not affect the current business model but has the potential to be scaled. Since theblockchain technology enhances collaboration, it is important to consider which partners shouldbe included and how the application can create value for all involved parties. However, due to theuncertainty of the technology, companies need to be well aware of that assumed created value maynot be reached as expected. Furthermore, district heating companies also need to bear in mindthat other parameters, for example additional technologies, policies or infrastructure systems, maybe necessary to implement in order to create value from a blockchain solution. Blockchain beskrivs ofta som något med ändlös teoretisk potential. I verkligheten är det dock svårtatt fastställa hur blockchain kan användas och vilka möjligheter blockchain kan skapa. Den osäkraframtiden för blockchain är en utmaning för många företag att förhålla sig till. Inte minst för storaetablerade företag då blockchain kan användas för att decentralisera en centraliseradmarknadsstruktur. Syftet med denna undersökande studie är att utvärdera blockchainapplikationerför ett fjärrvärmeföretag i Stockholm, för att förstå gynnsamma områden,nödvändiga kriterier vid genomförande och hur blockchain skulle kunna möjliggöra nyaaffärsmöjligheter på fjärrvärmemarknaden. In Brazil, the market is already signaling interest in investing in offshore wind, as can be seen from the environmental licensing processes underway at the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama). This article carries out an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for this typology on the Brazilian coast. To this end, the activities of an offshore wind farm were listed for the planning, installation and operation phases of the project. Based on this information, a correlation is made with the environmental impacts identified when carrying out similar activities already carried out by the Brazilian offshore industry (ports, oil and gas exploration and production). Finally, these results are compared with environmental impacts already reported in projects of this type already implemented in the North Sea, United Kingdom. The results of the analysis indicate that, despite the development of significant knowledge about EIA of offshore wind projects, there are still gaps to fill in the consolidation of an effective procedure for assessing the environmental impacts of these projects.

In Brazil, the market is already signaling interest in investing in offshore wind, as can be seen from the environmental licensing processes underway at the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama). This article carries out an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for this typology on the Brazilian coast. To this end, the activities of an offshore wind farm were listed for the planning, installation and operation phases of the project. Based on this information, a correlation is made with the environmental impacts identified when carrying out similar activities already carried out by the Brazilian offshore industry (ports, oil and gas exploration and production). Finally, these results are compared with environmental impacts already reported in projects of this type already implemented in the North Sea, United Kingdom. The results of the analysis indicate that, despite the development of significant knowledge about EIA of offshore wind projects, there are still gaps to fill in the consolidation of an effective procedure for assessing the environmental impacts of these projects.

This dissertation is based on regional numerical simulations and addresses, from an energetic perspective, the Meso (O(10-100)km) and Submesoscale (O(0.1- 10)km) variability in the Agulhas Current region.(i) Submesoscale variability at the transition between the two Agulhas Current branches (28◦E-26◦E) is dominated, in the absence of mesoscale meanders, by cyclonic frontal eddies forming a ’vortex street’. The frontogenetic background strain intensifies the frontal shear which triggers the barotropic instability leading to submesoscale eddies generation.(ii) A modal Eddy Kinetic Energy budget is derived to characterize the energy transfers between the different vertical structures. Interactions canalized by topography (3 processes) globally result in a larger energy loss for mesoscale eddies than dissipation processes (bottom friction and wind) and an inverse vertical cascade (triadic interactions) reinforces mesoscale eddies in offshore areas.(iii) Our modal budget allows to characterize the Agulhas Current region as a net energy source for mesoscale eddies in contradiction with one inferred from altimetry data. However, high energy consumption is one of the main disadvantages of implementing this system in real applications. In this paper, the energy consumption of electromagnetic actuators used for an active suspension system controlled by proportional-integral-derivative (PID), fuzzy adaptive PID, and neuron adaptive PID are investigated through simulation studies. Based on the energy consumption and the performance analysis, it has found that it is potential to develop a vibration energy recovery system to achieve the energy balance requirement in active suspension systems.

However, the practical complexities of localised humanitarian aid are yet to be fully discussed. This paper aims to examine the concept of localisation in humanitarian aid through a case study of a local non-governmental organisation, the Cambodian Children's Trust (CCT), in Cambodia. Drawing on the framework of localisation proposed by Baguios et al., (2021), we analyse the application of localisation of child protection programs run by CCT. We provide a holistic understanding of how localisation is conducted in practice, and the impacts it has on the wider humanitarian sector. Our study illustrates that power can be effectively developed to local entities and localisation with empowerment could be achieved despite highly challenging conditions.

A theoretical model under uncertainty is proposed to highlight the effect, on adaptation decisions, of considering adaptation efforts in forest insurance contracts. Results show that insurance is relevant to increase adaptation efforts under some realistic conditions on forest owner’s uncertainty and risk preferences, and on the observability or not of adaptation efforts. • Context One of the challenges of forest adaptation to climate change is to encourage private forest owners to implement adaptation strategies. • Aims We suggest the analysis of forest insurance contracts against natural hazards as a vector to promote the implementation of adaptation efforts by private forest owners. • Methods We propose a theoretical model of insurance economics under risk and under uncertainty. • Results Our results indicate that when climate change makes the probability of the occurrence of the natural event uncertain, then it may be relevant to include adaptation efforts in the insurance contract, leading to an increase in the adaptation efforts of risk-averse and uncertainty-averse forest owners. In addition, we show that the relevance of insurance as a vector to promote adaptation efforts is greater when the forest owner’s effort is unobservable by the insurer as compared to a situation of perfectly observable effort. • Conclusion Under some realistic assumptions, the forest insurance contract seems to be a relevant tool to encourage forest owners to adapt to climate change.

Pannequin, François in OpenAIRE• Key message Insurance might be an efficient tool to strengthen adaptation of forest management to climate change. A theoretical model under uncertainty is proposed to highlight the effect, on adaptation decisions, of considering adaptation efforts in forest insurance contracts. Results show that insurance is relevant to increase adaptation efforts under some realistic conditions on forest owner’s uncertainty and risk preferences, and on the observability or not of adaptation efforts. • Context One of the challenges of forest adaptation to climate change is to encourage private forest owners to implement adaptation strategies. • Aims We suggest the analysis of forest insurance contracts against natural hazards as a vector to promote the implementation of adaptation efforts by private forest owners. • Methods We propose a theoretical model of insurance economics under risk and under uncertainty. • Results Our results indicate that when climate change makes the probability of the occurrence of the natural event uncertain, then it may be relevant to include adaptation efforts in the insurance contract, leading to an increase in the adaptation efforts of risk-averse and uncertainty-averse forest owners. In addition, we show that the relevance of insurance as a vector to promote adaptation efforts is greater when the forest owner’s effort is unobservable by the insurer as compared to a situation of perfectly observable effort. • Conclusion Under some realistic assumptions, the forest insurance contract seems to be a relevant tool to encourage forest owners to adapt to climate change.

The calculation of this effective mass and its ellipsoid are included. The relationship between the robot effective mass and the external force (collision) affecting the robot end-effector is investigated. The effective mass is analyzed using different robot configurations and different end-effector positions. This analysis is conducted using 2-DOF and 3-DOF planar robots and executed using MATLAB. The results from this analysis prove that the robot effective mass depends on the its configurations and end-effector position. Effective mass can thus be considered as one of the criteria in optimizing robot kinematics and configuration.
