description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Report 2021Publisher:IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutet Authors: Jivén, Karl; Hjort, Anders; Bäckström, Sebastian;Rapporten är en delredovisning inom projektet Västsvensk arena för flytande biogas.

It focuses on developing and validating a new cylinder design with built-in cooling to handle temperature increases during bunkering. The project aims to validate and analyze this new cylinder design by manufacturing a prototype equipped with heat exchangers and conducting performance tests. The project has been carried out in three stages: prototype development, pressure and safety tests, and performance tests. The prototype tank passed both pressure and performance tests without leaking or visible damage. The cylinder design with built-in heat exchanger was found to be able to limit the temperature rise during hydrogen bunkering, enabling a higher fill rate and safe use. However, there are still open questions regarding a large-scale filling that should be investigated further in future projects to further optimize the process. Among other things, this applies to the influence of a plastic liner or a thinner metal liner, a larger tank volume, larger mass flows and realistic pipe/hose lengths and dimensions between the expansion valve and the tanks on board.

In addition, e-commerce companies have to a greater extent emphasized customer adaptation in regards to delivery opportunities. For example, customers are being offered a large number ofcarriers and delivery methods in order to satisfy the delivery requirements of everycustomer. Despite the fact that more companies than ever seem to take environmentallyfriendly delivery alternatives into account, irrational and impulsive buying behaviour andself-interest is being put above the environment. Prior studies identify freight cost as themost crucial aspect when choosing a delivery alternative. The interest for sustainabledelivery alternatives has developed throughout the last couple of years, which is a result ofrising levels of carbon dioxide emissions, as well as pollution and contamination. The mainpurpose of this study is to explore e-customers buying behaviour and decision making inrelation to the environmentally friendly delivery alternatives that are being offered. Thestudy is limited to business-to-consumer (B2C). In order to respond to the purpose of thisstudy, a quantitative method in the form of a survey was conducted and a convenienceselection was applied with 116 respondents. The final result indicates that freight cost isthe most prominent incentive to justify consumption, which is at the expense ofenvironmental sustainability. Furthermore, additional results and statistical relationshipsare presented that show the e-customer's buying behaviour in connection with othervariables that are considered important for answering the issues of the thesis. Theconclusion shows that e-commerce customers strongly value price when choosing deliveryand return alternatives. There are clear demographic differences in terms of buyingbehaviour and e-customers do not take their environmental responsibility when buying online. Finally, proposals are presented for future ...

In particular, dams and turbines can hinder biodiversity in riverine ecosystems. This study explores the trade-offs between climate goals and biodiversity conservation within the swedish energy sector, focusing on how these tensions can be addressed from a planner’s perspective. By examining the case of Tranås Energi AB - recognized for its environmentally conscious hydropower practices - this study investigates why biodiversity is difficult to preserve in swedish hydropower. The research methodology includes interviews and a document analysis of the Nationell plan för omprövning av vattenkraft (NAP), to map how such trade-offs are represented and managed in practice. A systems theory framework is applied to analyze three dimensions: Potential Conflicting Goals, Approaches to Conflicting Goals, and Future Strategies for Managing Conflicting Goals. The findings indicate that trade-offs are common across the hydropower sector, but that Tranås Energi has successfully mitigated them through systematic dialogue, collaboration, and proactive planning. This study also reveals that while the NAP is a widely debated policy, its actual influence on future environmental outcomes is limited. A key insight is that economic considerations significantly shape the possibilities for environmentally adaptive hydropower.

The study is made as a qualitative and quantitative case study on how Ericsson's innovation capacity, technology development and competitiveness was affected by the requirement to reduce carbon dioxide emission and how the company has acted upon the EU sustainability directives. Part of the investigation was to quantitative verify if it was a correlation between Ericsson total number of patents per year and the company's investment in research and development, and the carbon footprint of the company. The result of the study should describe if Ericsson is a good example of the Porter hypothesis and by that respond to the research question. Have the sustainability rules in terms of RoHS Directive, REACH Directive and WEEE Directive and reduction of carbon dioxide emission developed and promoted or reduced Ericsson's pace of innovation, technology development, profitability, and the competitiveness? The conclusion of the study is that Ericsson has increased its investments since 2017 in research and development and for the last three years Gartner have awarded them as the technical leader and ABI Research has awarded the company as the most sustainable company in the telecom industry. Based on Ericsson innovations and technical development, the company has reduced the carbon footprint with 26 % from 2016 to 2022 and has a goal to become emission free by 2040. Ericsson is an example of the narrow version of the Porter hypothesis.

The purpose of this study is to enhance knowledge about the challenges pharmaceutical manufacturers face when trying to optimize manual work in manufacturing processes. To examine this, a case study of a production section at AstraZeneca was conducted. As part of the study, the factors that limit the improvement of manual work were identified, as well as in which ways work could and should be improved. The study identified both ergonomic hazards and potential areas for improvement. To prevent risks, the study presented the following recommendations: React proactively instead of reactively, ensure all activities and work steps are risk-adjusted, review work postures and movements, introduce routines with a focus on ergonomic inspectors, training staff in basic ergonomics and work techniques, develop the skills of the workforce, hire an ergonomist internally, implement the new design proposal and try to radically change workstation design. Study results indicated that changing the workstation layout and design was challenging. In this regard, the recommendations primarily address initiatives at the individual and organizational levels. Regulatory restrictions, as well as prevailing conditions in the factory, limit improvement. Additionally, the study confirms pharmaceutical manufacturers' conservative approach to change, identifying outdated facilities and a neglected ergonomic environment as primary reasons for their inaction. In conclusion, manual work in the studied process can be improved; however, it is challenging to do so. This is why the recommendations have been adjusted to fit a production environment where technology and design changes are difficult to implement. In other words, they are tailored to suit the needs of regulated industries. Furthermore, it may be necessary to overhaul the industry's attitude toward improving existing production as well.

This becomes problematic as sustainable leadership should focus on a shared process. Furthermore, the focus is often on economic sustainability before ecological and social sustainability. Over time, however, the focus has shifted more to the leadership process where both superiors and subordinates are in focus and where a holistic perspective of all three dimensions of sustainability has become important. However, the knowledge of bottom- up influence needs to be developed to gain a further understanding of the subject in its whole. This study is a further step towards this changed focus and contributes to a deeper understanding of the phenomenon of influence. Research question: How do subordinates influence superiors in a sustainability context from a superior and subordinate perspective? Aim: The aim is to describe the bottom-up impact that exists within a sustainability context from a superior and subordinate perspective. Method: To answer the research question, an inductive research approach and qualitative method have been used. A comparative case study of a collective case of three superiors and a collective case of six subordinates has been conducted. The empirical data has been collected through qualitative interviews. Conclusions: The conclusions that this study arrives at are shown in model 4.3 where we get a description of how “leadership with a focus on sustainability” can be achieved. Furthermore, model 4.3 creates an understanding of how superiors can open up for a bottom-up influence and how subordinates can make it possible to be able to influence. Above all, through the relationship between superiors and subordinates, but also based on subordinates' knowledge, the possibility of a bottom-up influence is created. The study shows the importance of the interaction between superiors and subordinates and serves as a complement to previous research on leadership, influence and sustainability. ...

Thermo Fischer Scientific presterade mediokert under samtliga mätningar. Ultra-low temperature freezers, used to store biological material at extremely low temperatures, are very energy intensive and have a significant environmental footprint. This study analyses the energy use of three different ULT freezer models at Umeå University, focusing on energy efficiency, operating temperature, storage capacity and environmental impact. The results show that energy use increases with lower temperatures and that increasing the temperature from -80 °C to -70 °C can reduce energy use without compromising sample quality. Stirling Ultracold provides the largest storage capacity and is the most environmentally friendly option at -80°C in terms of storage capacity. However, at -70°C and -75°C, PHcbi and Stirling Ultracold perform equally well. Economically, PHcbi is the most cost-effective model per cryobox at -70°C and -75°C, while Stirling Ultracold offers lower costs at -80°C. Thermo Fischer Scientific performed mediocre in all measurements. These results highlight the importance of temperature setting and freezer model selection in optimizing energy use, electricity costs and environmental impact in research environments.

description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Report 2021Publisher:IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutet Authors: Jivén, Karl; Hjort, Anders; Bäckström, Sebastian;Rapporten är en delredovisning inom projektet Västsvensk arena för flytande biogas.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Bachelor thesis 2025 SwedenPublisher:Linköpings universitet, Institutionen för tema Authors: Fock, Hannes; Ingbrant, Viktor;Hydropower is a renewable energy source, but it comes with environmental trade-offs.
