    Diese Dissertation beantwortet verschiedene politikrelevante ökonomische Fragen in den Bereichen Handelspolitik, Geldpolitik, sowie Rohstoffmärkte und Energieökonomik mit Hilfe von strukturellen Vektorautoregressionsmodellen (SVAR). SVARs stellen eine effektive Möglichkeit dar, die Beziehungen zwischen verschiedenen makroökonomischen und/oder Finanzmarkt-Variablen zu modellieren und werden verwendet, um die dynamischen kausalen Effekte von ökonomischen Schocks zu schätzen. Für jede ökonomische Fragestellung wird eine Identifikationsstrategie angewandt, die auf die betrachteten Daten und ihre statistischen Eigenschaften sowie die zugrundeliegenden Annahmen über ökonomische Mechanismen zwischen den betrachteten Zeitreihen zugeschnitten ist. Im Einzelnen besteht diese Dissertation aus vier Kapiteln. In den ersten beiden Kapiteln werden die Auswirkungen von Handelspolitik auf Finanzmärkte und auf die Makroökonomie geschätzt. Das dritte Kapitel liefert einen methodischen Beitrag zur SVAR-Literatur, der in einer Anwendung zu den Effekten von Geldpolitik dargestellt wird. Das letzte Kapitel verlässt die Felder der Handels- und Geldpolitik und wendet sich Rohstoffmärkten und der Energiewirtschaft zu, stützt sich dabei aber ebenfalls auf Zeitreihenmethoden. Es analysiert die Rolle von Metallen in der Energiewende. This dissertation answers various policy relevant economic questions in the fields of trade policy, monetary policy, and commodity markets and energy economics using structural vector autoregression (SVAR) models. SVARs constitute a parsimonious way to model the relations between different macroeconomic and/or financial variables and they are used to estimate the dynamic causal effects of economic shocks. For each economic question, this dissertation applies an identification strategy that is tailored to the relevant data and its statistical properties as well as the underlying assumptions about economic mechanisms among the regarded time series. Specifically, this dissertation consists of four chapters. The first two chapters estimate the effects of trade policy on financial markets and on the macroeconomy. The third chapter makes a methodological contribution to the SVAR literature in an application to monetary policy shocks. The final chapter moves away from trade and monetary policy to commodity markets and energy economics but also relies on time series methods. It analyzes the role of metals for the clean energy transition.

    The concept of sustainability is continuously used in the environment, tourism, architecture, businesses and economy. In this study, the sustainability reports of public companies listed in BIST Sustainability Index are analysed under economic, environment and social categories identified by in the Global Reporting Initiative Reporting Guide. The aim of the study is to determine the disclosure practices of listed companies about sustainability issues. The sustainability reports of companies listed in BIST Sustainability Index are analysed with content analysis using Nvivo software programme and the result of the analysis are evaluated. The results of the study indicated that the most highlighted issues are as follows; in economic sustainability economic performance, in environmental sustainability products and services, in social sustainability employee and, health and safety issues. Further, the results of the regression analysis indicate that as the firm age and number of employees increase firms issue more comprehensive sustainability reports.

    Im Zentrum der Angebote transformativen Lernens oder transformativer Bildung steht die Frage, wie Bildung Menschen und auch Institutionen dabei unterstützen kann, globale Krisen und ihre oft lokalen Auswirkungen zu verstehen und ihnen zu begegnen. Wie kann eine positive Vision für die Zukunft aussehen, wie der Weg dorthin – und was kann jede/r Einzelne dazu beitragen? Am Beispiel der Genossenschaft für Gemeinwohl und der für Angebote im Bildungsbereich zuständigen Akademie für Gemeinwohl diskutiert der vorliegende Beitrag das Potential transformativer Bildungsangebote für ein demokratisches, nachhaltiges und am Gemeinwohl orientiertes Geld- und Finanzsystem. Beschrieben wird, wie ein vielfältiges Programm zu den Themen Geld und Finanzwesen sowie allgemein zu Wirtschaft und Politik im Sinne transformativer Bildung aussehen kann und welche Art von Wissen und Qualifikationen es hierzu zu vermitteln gilt. Übergeordnetes Ziel ist es, Bewusstsein für den Einfluss zu schaffen, den die Finanzwirtschaft auf unsere Wirtschaft, unsere Umwelt, unser Leben hat. (DIPF/Orig.) Transformative learning and transformative education offerings are organized around the question how education can support people as well as institutions in understanding and responding to global crises and their often local impacts. What is a positive vision for the future, what is the way there – and what can each individual do to achieve it? Using the examples of Genossenschaft für Gemeinwohl and Akademie für Gemeinwohl (Public Interest Academy), which is responsible for providing educational opportunities, this article discusses the potential of transformative education for a democratic, sustainable, public interest-oriented monetary and financial system. It describes what a diverse programme on the topics of money and finance and general economics and politics in the sense of transformative education might be like and what type of knowledge and qualifications are worth imparting. The overriding goal is to raise awareness of the influence that the financial industry has on our economy, our environment and our life. (DIPF/Orig.)

    Authors: Streitfert, Anita;

    Since 1750, the atmospheric CO2 concentration has increased from 280 ppm to about 350 ppm today and is expected to reach 540-970 ppm by 2100. The CO2 concentration is known to affect plants directly and indirectly through the influence of global warming. In this dissertation the impact of 50 years of global warming on plant phenology was assessed. The assessment was used to predict future phenological alterations due to global warming. Direct effects of future CO2 levels (20% above ambient) on phenology, anatomy and stomatal resistance to water vapour were also investigated on plants from the Giessen Free Air Carbondioxid Enrichment (Gi-FACE) study. Phenological data of crops, fruit plants and wild plants collected by the German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst = DWD) on 170 stations in Hessen between 1951 and 2003 have been analysed. The analysis revealed that the development of plants has shifted during the last decades in Hessen. The beginning of the phenological phases advanced by 0,4 to 5,5 days per decade. The spring phases showed the largest trend. However, the advancement of the phenological phases tended to decline during the annual cycle. Responses to global warming such as the length of vegetation period and the leaf senescence (of oak) did show considerable regional variation and sometimes opposite trends in neighbouring areas. While in some areas the vegetation period was longer, in others it was not changed. However, in the area called Gießen-Koblenzer-Lahntal it became even shorter. A regionalized phenological model for the area 348 (Marburg-Gießener-Lahntal) during the decade 2041-2050 has been developed, using temperature predictions based on the data from meteorological station Gießen. The simulation proved that global warming will advance the phenological phases of the plants and will lengthen the vegetation period. As a consequence of the advancement of the phenological phases, the risk of late frost damage is likely to be present in the future and presumably will rise for some particular fruit species. Phenology is affected not only by global warming but also by rising atmospheric CO2 levels. Most of the investigated plants of the GiFACE graslandsite showed a shift in flowering in spite of the moderate CO2 enrichment used. In this case advancement and delay occurred. The flowering of Glechoma hederacea and Saxifraga granulata advanced significantly under enhanced CO2 concentration. This indicates that evergreen species benefit from the CO2 enrichment, when it is applied throughout the year, and that they are able to react with advanced development under these conditions. Large differences in the date of flowering from year to year suggest that the CO2 effect is modified by the climatic conditions. The impact of enhanced CO2 concentration on anatomical parameters and the stomatal resistance to water vapour were investigated for six species. Despite the moderate enhancement of CO2 concentration, these attributes did already exhibit a response. However, the reactions were different among the species investigated. The species Arrhenatherum elatius und Saxifraga granulata raised the stomatal resistance mainly through the reduction of the stomata density, while Glechoma hederacea did this through a reduction of the stomatal aperture. Glechoma hederacea showed in general a positive reaction to enhanced CO2 concentration concerning leaf thickness, leaf tissue density and leaf mass per area. In contrast, the responses of the other investigated species did not demonstrate such a consistent pattern. Glechoma hederacea is unique in showing a significant advancement of flowering and a significant enhancement of the stomatal resistance to water vapour under elevated CO2. Because the resulting reduction in transpiration may lead to increased leaf temperatures as well as on the entire canopy level, elevated CO2 might be responsible for phenological changes. Thus, the detected global warming effect is inseparable from the effect that rising CO2 levels have on these species. Die CO2-Konzentration ist seit 1750 von 280 ppm auf heute 375 ppm angestiegen und wird sich bis 2100 weiter auf 540-970 ppm erhöhen. Dieser Anstieg wirkt sich indirekt über die Erwärmung der Atmosphäre als auch direkt auf die Pflanzen aus. Ziel dieser Arbeit war daher die Auswirkung der Klimaerwärmung in den letzten 50 Jahren und der prognostizierten Klimaerwärmung auf die Pflanzenentwicklung sowie die Wirkung von moderat erhöhten CO2-Konzentrationen (+20 %) auf die Phänologie, die Anatomie und den Stomatawiderstand von Pflanzen zu untersuchen. Anhand der Auswertung phänologischer Daten landwirtschaftlicher Kulturpflanzen, Obstgehölzen und wildwachsenden Pflanzen der Jahre 1951 bis 2003 von 170 Stationen in Hessen konnte gezeigt werden, dass es in diesem Zeitraum zu Verschiebungen in der Pflanzenentwicklung gekommen ist. Der Eintritt phänologischer Phasen verfrühte sich im Mittel zwischen 0,4 bis 5,5 Tage/Dekade. Die Frühjahrsphasen zeigten dabei den stärksten Trend. Im Jahresverlauf nahm die Verfrühung der phänologischen Phasen ab. Regionale Unterschiede und gegensätzliche Trends in benachbarten Naturräumen zeigten sich in der Reaktion der Pflanzen (z.B. Blattseneszenz der Stiel-Eiche), aber auch in der Dauer der Vegetationsperiode. Während sich die Vegetationszeit in manchen Regionen verlängert hat, ist sie in anderen unverändert geblieben. Im Gießen-Koblenzer-Lahntal hat sie sich sogar verkürzt. Mit Hilfe von Modellen, basierend auf den Temperaturdaten eines Regionalisierungsmodells für die meteorologische Station Gießen, konnte beispielhaft für den Naturraum 348 (Marburg-Gießener-Lahntal) gezeigt werden, dass es aufgrund der prognostizierten Klimaerwärmung in der Dekade von 2041 bis 2050 zu weiteren Verfrühungen in der Pflanzenentwicklung und zur Verlängerung der Vegetationsperiode kommen wird. Die Verfrühung der Frühjahrsphasen hat zur Folge, dass die Gefahr von Spätfrost auch in der Zukunft vorhanden ist und für einige Obstarten wahrscheinlich noch ansteigt. Neben erhöhten Lufttemperaturen beeinflussen jedoch auch erhöhte CO2-Konzentrationen die Phänologie. So zeigte die überwiegende Anzahl der untersuchten Pflanzenarten eines Grünlandbestandes - trotz nur moderat erhöhten CO2-Konzentration - Verschiebungen im mittleren Blühbeginn, wobei sowohl Verfrühungen als auch Verspätungen auftraten. Eine signifikante Verfrühung unter erhöhten CO2-Konzentrationen konnte bei Glechoma hederacea und bei Saxifraga granulata beobachtet werden. Dies deutet darauf hin, dass immergrüne Arten von der ganzjährigen CO2-Anreicherung profitieren und mit einer schnelleren Entwicklung im Frühling reagieren. Große Unterschiede im Zeitpunkt des Blühbeginns lassen vermuten, dass der CO2-Effekt durch die Witterung modifiziert wird. Die Auswirkungen von erhöhten CO2-Konzentrationen auf anatomische Parameter und den Stomatawiderstand für Wasserdampf wurde beispielhaft an sechs Arten untersucht. Dabei reagierten die Pflanzen auf moderat erhöhte CO2-Konzentrationen unterschiedlich: Arrhenatherum elatius und Saxifraga granulata erhöhten den Stomatawiderstand für Wasserdampf hauptsächlich durch die Verringerung der Stomatadichte, Glechoma hederacea hingegen überwiegend durch eine Reduzierung der Öffnungsweite der Stomata. Im Bezug auf die Blattdicke, die Blattdichte und den LMA (leaf mass per area) zeigte Glechoma hederacea generell positive Reaktionen auf erhöhte CO2-Konzentrationen. Im Gegensatz dazu reagierten die anderen untersuchten Arten unterschiedlich. Als einzige Art zeigte Glechoma hederacea eine signifikante Verfrühung im Blühbeginn einhergehend mit einer signifikanten Erhöhung des Stomatawiderstandes für Wasserdampf. Verringerungen der Transpiration könnten zu erhöhten Blatt- und Bestandestemperaturen führen und damit Auswirkungen auf die Phänologie haben, so dass Klimaerwärmung und CO2-Effekt nicht trennbar sind.

    Im Verlauf der vergangenen Dekaden haben sich die sozio-ökonomischen wie auch die normativen und regulativen Grundlagen der Governance der Erwerbsarbeit in einer Weise verändert, die für das Handeln des einzelnen Menschen als Arbeitskraft und tätiges Subjekt neue Voraussetzungen schafft: Erwerbstätige gewinnen als unmittelbare individuelle Akteure in der Governance von Arbeit an Bedeutung. Die damit einhergehenden Prozesse der Flexibilisierung, Subjektivierung und Entgrenzung von Arbeit werden in den einschlägigen Debatten häufig und mit guten Gründen kritisch interpretiert, z. B. als erweiterte Landnahme oder Kolonialisierung von Subjektivität. Im Unterschied dazu wird in diesem Beitrag der Frage nachgegangen, ob und inwiefern sich hierdurch auch neue Chancen für eine nachhaltige(re) und sozialverträgliche(re) Gestaltung von Arbeit eröffnen. Insbesondere für hoch qualifizierte Beschäftigte als Individuen wie als ,neue‘ kollektive Akteure eröffnen sich hierbei Macht- und Möglichkeitsräume, ihre erweiterte Subjektperspektive zur Geltung zu bringen - mit womöglich durchaus ambivalenten Wirkungen auf Strukturen der Governance von Erwerbsarbeit und für betriebliche Arbeitsbeziehungen. Since the 1980s, governance structures of work and employment and their regulative and normative foundations have changed significantly. Due to reforms of the welfare state and the emergence of new production concepts, employees gained in significance as individual actors. The flexibilisation, disentanglement and subjectivisation of work confronted individual employees with enhanced psycho-social stress at work, new management strategies capitalising on their subjectivity for economic goals and taking more individual responsibility for their career and course of life. However, in this contribution options for a more sustainable design of work are explored that are closely linked with employees as individual actors. New production concepts are increasingly vulnerable to highly skilled individual employees in their self-regulation of work. This dependence can open up new options for highly skilled employees to claim socially accepted demands on sustainability in work organisations - however, with ambivalent side effects as the fragmentation of interests within workforces.     Authors: Droste-Franke, Bert;

    Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, ausgehend von vorhandenen Ansätzen, ein geschlossenes Konzept für die Berücksichtigung von Schäden durch die Schadstoffbelastung der Umwelt als Ergänzung von Volkswirtschaftlichen Gesamtrechnungen, sogenannten Umweltökonomischen Gesamtrechnungen (UGR), abzuleiten und dieses anhand der Umweltbelastung durch Luftschadstoffe und toxische Substanzen durchzuführen. Ausgehend von der Diskussion der beiden übergeordneten Ziele für eine umweltverträgliche wirtschaftliche Entwicklung, Effizienz und Nachhaltigkeit, werden zunächst Unterziele in Form von Prioritäten aufgestellt. Aus ihnen wird dann auf der Basis vorhandener Konzepte zu Indikatoren und UGR ein System von aggregierten Indikatoren entwickelt. Zur Berechnung der Indikatoren wird die Methodik des erweiterten Wirkungspfadansatzes vorgestellt. Neben der detaillierten Diskussion von Konzentrationswerten und Gesamtschäden für 1990 und 1998 erfolgt eine Analyse des zeitlichen und räumlichen Imports und Exports von Schäden sowie der Schäden, die durch unterschiedliche wirtschaftliche Aktivitäten in Deutschland entstehen. Zusätzlich werden mit Hilfe der Indikatoren die Nachhaltigkeit der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung und die Effizienz definierter Umweltziele beispielhaft für das Jahr 2005 untersucht. Zur Demonstration der Anwendbarkeit der berechneten Ergebnisse im Rahmen von UGR werden unter anderem beispielhaft Korrekturen der Wirtschaftsindikatoren durchgeführt, wie sie von Projekten der Europäischen Kommission und Aktivitäten der Vereinten Nationen in diesem Bereich vorgeschlagen werden. Die ermittelten gesamten Schadenskosten für die Jahre 1990 und 1998 in den EU-15 Staaten und Deutschland betragen mehrere Prozent des jeweiligen Bruttoinlandsprodukts. Die Analyse des Jahres 2005 hat gezeigt, dass die politischen Ziele für 2010 größtenteils bereits in 2005 eingehalten werden können. In einigen Ländern sind effiziente Minderungen über die Einhaltung der Ziele hinaus möglich. The objective of this thesis is to develop a consistent concept for the consideration of impacts due to the pollution of the environment in order to supplement national accounting systems in a so-called green accounting framework and to apply the concept for air pollution and the dispersion of toxic substances. Based on a discussion of the two major aims for environmentally friendly economic development, efficiency and sustainability, first, subordinate aims are formulated as priorities. These are used together with a discussion of existing concepts for indicators and environmental accounting to develop a system of aggregated indicators. For the estimation of indicator values, the extended impact pathway approach is presented. Besides a detailed discussion of the concentration levels and damages for 1990 and 1998, an analysis of temporal and spatial import and export of damages as well as the amount of damages caused by different economic activities in Germany are assessed. Furthermore, the sustainability of the economic development and the efficiency of given environmental targets are analysed applying the indicators exemplarily for the year 2005. In order to demonstrate the applicability of the results within environmental accounts, among other things exemplary corrections of economic indicators are carried out following the proposals from European Commission projects and from activities of the United Nations in this area. The estimated total damage costs occurring in 1990 and 1998 within the EU-15 and Germany result to a few percent of the respective gross domestic product. The analysis of the year 2005 showed that in some countries political targets which were originally set for 2010 can already be reached in 2005. Furthermore, in some countries efficient reductions beyond the accomplishment of the targets are possible.

    Die intensive Nutzung in Landwirtschaft und Forstwirtschaft und damit einhergehende Bodendegradation stellen eine enorme Herausforderung für die menschliche Gesellschaft dar. Insbesondere die Übernutzung reduziert die Ernährungssicherheit, führt zur Emission von Treibhausgasen und Aerosolen, treibt den Verlust der biologischen Vielfalt an, verschmutzt das Wasser und untergräbt eine Vielzahl von Ökosystemdienstlei - stungen, die über die Nahrungsmittelversorgung sowie die Wasser- und Klimaregulierung hinausgehen. Die direkten Emissionen durch Entwaldung, Düngung, Reisanbau und Wiederkäuer belaufen sich derzeit auf etwa 25% aller menschlichen Treibhausgasemissionen. Der intensiven Landnutzung zugrunde liegen sowohl das Bevölkerungswachstum, der Anstieg im pro-Kopf-Verbrauch an Kalorien, Holz und Fasern sowie verstärkter Konsum von Fleisch- und Milchprodukten. Dieses Kapitel fasst diese soziökonomischen Aspekte kurz zusammen und führt in die grundsätzlichen Prozesse ein, die der Emission von CO2, CH4 und N2O zugrunde liegen. In verschiedenen Kapiteln in diesem Buch werden diese Prozesse wieder aufgegriffen und unter verschiedenen Gesichtspunkten detaillierter beleuchtet. Socioeconomic aspects of land use change, effects on biogeochemical cycles and greenhouse gas emissions: Intensive agriculture and forestry and associated land degradation, pose an enormous challenge to human society. Overuse of land ecosystems reduces food security, leads to emissions of greenhouse gases and aerosols, drives biodiversity loss, pollutes water, and undermines a wide range of ecosystem services beyond food supply and water and climate regulation. Direct emissions from deforestation, fertilization, rice cultivation, and ruminants currently amount to about 25% of all human greenhouse gas emissions. Drivers of intensive land useare population growth, together with increases in per capita consumption of calories, wood, and fiber, and a shift towards consumption of meat and dairy products. This chapter briefly summarizes these socioeconomic aspects and introduces the basic processes underlying the emission of CO2, CH4, and N2O. Various chapters in this book revisit these processes and examine them in more detail from different perspectives. Aspectos socioeconómicos del cambio de uso de la tierra, efectos en los ciclos biogeoquímicos y emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero: El uso intensivo del suelo en la agricultura y la silvicultura asi como la asociada degradación del suelo representan un enorme desafío para la sociedad humana. En particular, el sobreuso hace peligrar la seguridad alimentaria, conduce a la emisión de gases de efecto invernadero y aerosoles, incrementa la pérdida de biodiversidad, contamina el agua y socava una variedad de servicios de los ecosistemas más allá del suministro de alimentos y la regulación del agua y el clima. Las emisiones directas de la deforestación, la fertilización, el cultivo de arroz y los rumiantes representan actualmente alrededor del 25% de todas las emisiones antrópicas de gases de efecto invernadero. El uso intensivo de la tierra se basa en el crecimiento de la población, el aumento del consumo per cápita de calorías, madera y fibra y un mayor consumo de carne y productos lácteos. Este capítulo resume brevemente estos aspectos socioeconómicos e introduce los procesos fundamentales que subyacen a la emisión de CO2, CH4 y N2O. Estos procesos se retoman en varios capítulos de este libro y se examinan con más detalle desde varias perspectivas.

    Authors: Zhang, Yajin;

    Seit dem Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts ist die Entwicklung Neuer Städte ein sehr wichtiges Element der modernen Städtebautheorie und Städtebaupraxis. Auf der materiellen „Ebene“ haben die Neuen Städte mit der Unterstützung der Öffentlichen Hand eine hohe „Quantität“ der Massenbebauung ermöglicht, sie dient unterschiedlichen Entwicklungszielen auf der Ebene der Kommune, der Region und des Landes, ebenso wie der Behebung der Wohnungsnot, der Entlastung der Metropolen oder der Förderung von Wirtschaftszentren. Die Neue Stadt hat eine besondere natürliche „Qualität“, die regionale, gut eingebundene Lage der Neuen Städte, ihre Einbindung in die natürliche Umwelt und das hohe Niveau ihrer Infrastruktur und ihrer öffentlichen Einrichtungen. Der Bau Neuer Städte erweist sich geschichtlich immer als eines der wichtigsten Mittel zur Stärkung der kommunalen und regionalen Kompetenzkraft; deshalb wurden auch immer dann noch Neue Stadt-Quartiere gebaut, wenn die Wohnungsnot nicht mehr vorhanden war. Die Entwicklung der Neuen Städte ist auch ein ständiger Zeuge der Entwicklung der Städtebautheorien und von diesen im Positiven wie im Negativen ständig beeinflusst. Die Planung ganzer Neuer Städte ist eine der kompliziertesten Aufgaben des Städtebaus - die Realisierung ungeprüfter Innovationen, das schnelle Planungs- und Entwicklungstempo, die aus finanziellen Gründen oft schwach ausgeprägten öffentlichen Einrichtungen oder die Folgen einseitiger Sozialpolitik verstärken die Schwierigkeiten bei der Entwicklung einer Neuen Stadt. Das einseitige Übergewicht quantitativer Maßstäbe erzeugt eine Diskrepanz zwischen Qualität und Quantität. Die Neuen Städte als Aufgabe Das Thema der - so definierten - „Neuen Städte“ ist heute sowohl wegen der Erneuerungsbedürfnisse der „alten“ Neuen Städte, der Entwicklungsbedürfnisse der Neuen Stadt-Quartiere, sowohl in Europa, wie auch in der globalen Neue Stadt-Entwicklung von höchster Aktualität. Als ein Spiegel der modernen Städtebau-Entwicklung ist die Neue Stadt sowohl auf der Ebene der Forschung als auch der Praxis von sehr hoher Bedeutung, jedoch gibt es seit den 1970er Jahren zu dem Thema „Neue Stadt“ kaum noch Forschungsaktivitäten. In China ist die „Neue Stadt“, bereits in der Historie, immer ein wichtiges Element des Stadtentwicklungsmodells gewesen. Die Stadt ist der klar definierte Träger der speziellen Bedeutung: von der Gesellschaftsordnung über die Philosophie bis insbesondere zu der Politik. Die einschneidende Veränderung der chinesischen Kultur am Ende des Kaiserreiches - zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts - führte zu einer Philosophie, welche die „westliche Kultur“ in Bezug auf Funktion und Form aufnimmt, jedoch die chinesische lokale Kultur als Seele - der Stadt - begreift. Diese Art der Trennung - der Stadtauffassung - beeinflusst die Philosophie der chinesischen Stadtentwicklung noch heute. Die 80er Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts waren der Anfang der Ausbreitung der chinesischen Verstädterung. In diesem rasanten Verstädterungsprozess haben nicht nur die Metropolen, sondern auch die chinesischen Mittel- und Kleinstädte, die Neue Stadt als das wichtigste Instrument der Stadtentwicklung gewählt. Jedoch ist aufgrund des begrenzten Überblickes und des mangelhaften Wissensstandes, insbesondere für eine chinesische Neue Stadt heute, deren Grundlage in materieller sowie immaterieller Hinsicht schwach. Leitgedanken der Planung Neuer Städte Aus der hier dargestellten Forschungsarbeit lassen sich, als erster Teil der Arbeitsergebnisse, folgende Erfahrungen zusammenfassen: - Soziale Stadtgesellschaft: In der Planung einer Neuen Stadt ist nicht die Stadt selbst das wichtigste Entwicklungsziel, sondern vielmehr die Gesellschaft der Neuen Stadt. - Harmonische Humanität: Der eigentliche Zweck einer Neuen Stadt ist die harmonische Humanität, - d.h. die Schaffung eines Gleichgewichts der oft polaren Bedürfnisse der Menschen. - Global-historisches Stadtbild: Das Stadtbild, der Spiegel der immateriellen Qualität einer „Neuen Stadt“, ist deshalb ebenso wichtig wie die materielle Stadt und ihre funktionale Effektivität. Die Identität des Stadtbildes beruht auf einer Synthese von moderner, globaler Weltkultur und historischer, regionaler Kultur. Modell einer nachhaltigen Neue Stadt-Planung Aus diesem ergeben sich die Anforderungen an den Sinn, Inhalt und Ablauf der Planung einer Neuen Stadt sowie an den Hintergrund der Gründungsinitiative, die Gruppe der Initiatoren, den Planungsinhalt, den Arbeitsprozess, allgemeine Grundsätze des Städtebaus und der Planung Neuer Städte. Als Beispiele werden europäische und chinesische Neue Städte vor dem Hintergrund der Ansprüche der Menschen an ihre physische und psychische Umwelt analysiert. Since the beginning of the 20th Century, the development of new towns is a very important element of the modern urban planning theory and the practice of urban development. On a physical level, the new towns have a special “quantity” of large buildings and rich developed areas with support from the public sector. They serve different development objectives at local, regional and national levels, such as solving the housing shortage, the discharge of the metropolis, or the promotion of economic centers. The new city also has special natural born qualities, the location of the new towns, their integration into the natural environment, its high level of infrastructure and new public facilities. Historically, the establishment of new cities always proves to be one of the most important means to strengthen local and regional expertise; therefore nowadays more and more new city blocks are built, even when the housing shortage has no longer existed. The development of new towns is like witnessing the evolution of urban planning theories, from those in both the positive and negative influences. The planning of complete new towns is already one of the most complicated tasks of urban planning - it is believed that the problems are worsened by the realization of untested innovations, the rapid pace of development and planning, financial reasons, weak public facilities, or a one-sided social policy. The unilateral emphasis on the quantity causes discrepancies between quality and quantity. The new towns as a task The topic of the – so called – “new towns” requirements today both concern the renovation needs of the “old” new towns and the development needs of new communities in Europe and the global new urban development, from the most up-to-date. The new town as a mirror of modern urban development is highly meaningful from both a research and a practical level. However the research on the topic "New Town" has been almost complete since the 1970's. In China, the "new town" had historically been an important element of the urban development model. The town is a well-defined carrier having special importance to the social order and particularly in philosophy and politics too. The dramatic change in the Chinese culture at the end of the empire - at the beginning of the 20th Century - has led to a philosophy that accommodates the western culture in both form and functionalities, but the local Chinese culture as a soul – can be seen in the towns. This kind of separation - the town view - influenced the philosophy of the Chinese town development today. The 1980s was the beginning of the spread of Chinese urbanization. In this rapid urbanization process, it was not only the metropolises, but also the Chinese medium and small towns that chose the "new towns" as the most important characteristic of urban development. Nowadays, because of a limited overview and insufficient knowledge, the foundation of Chinese new towns seems to be weak materially and immaterially. Guide principle in planning new towns As the first part of the results of this paper, the following experience is summarized: - Social urban society: To plan a new town, the most important thing is not the town per se, but the society in a new town. - Harmonic Humanity: The real purpose of a New Town is a harmonious humanity – it means a human living environment - that is capable of all material and immaterial needs of all classes and all levels of generation to meet the prospective city inhabitant. - Global historical town: the town, a mirror of the immaterial qualities of a "New Town", is just as important as the physical town and its functional effectiveness. The identity of the cityscape is based on a synthesis of modern, global culture and historical, regional culture. Model of a sustainable new town planning Therefore the basis of a theoretical model for a new city can be determined. Things such as the background to the start-up initiative, the group of initiators, the content of planning, the work process and the general principles of urban design and planning of new towns. As an example, a new Chinese "New Towns" is analyzed with the context of requirements from a Chinese family on their physical and psychological environment.

    Authors: Rühl, Anna Theresa; Donath, Tobias W.; Eckstein, R. Lutz; Otte, Annette;

    Arable weeds are one of the most endangered species groups in Europe. Modern agriculture and intensive land use management with the application of herbicides and fertilisers, enhanced seed cleaning, simplified crop rotations and abandonment of marginal arable sites are the main causes for the continuous decline of arable weeds. However, besides these changes in land use also global climate change may challenge the adaptability of arable weeds. Most scientists agree that the frequency of extreme meteorological conditions will increase in the future. As a consequence, plants of Central Europe will be subject to higher temperatures and reduced water supply due to longer intervals without precipitation during the growing season. We exposed seeds of five common and five endangered arable weed species to different temperatures and water potentials to study i) how this plant group responds to higher temperatures and lower moisture during germination in general and ii) whether there is a significant difference between common and endangered species in this respect.

    Klimawandel, Wachstumswende, demographische Veränderungen, die weltweite Wirtschafts- und Finanzkrise sowie die Erfordernisse der Nachhaltigkeit machen neuartige Lösungsansätze für bisher unbekannte Problemkonstellationen erforderlich. In diesem Band beschäftigen sich AutorInnen aus Dänemark, Norwegen, Polen, Deutschland, der Schweiz, Österreich und Italien mit Ansätzen der Demokratisierung, sozialen Innovation und Partizipation, insbesondere von benachteiligten Gruppen. Der internationale Blick wird über den europäischen Raum hinaus um Analysen und Handlungsansätze in zwei geopolitisch brisanten Regionen erweitert, dem islamischen Raum sowie Kasachstan und Georgien. (DIPF/Orig.) Climate change, a turnaround in growth, demographic changes, the global economic and financial crisis as well as the requirements of sustainability make new solutions to previously unknown problem constellations necessary. In this volume, authors from Denmark, Norway, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy deal with approaches to democratization, social innovation and participation, especially of disadvantaged groups. The international view is broadened beyond the European area to include analyses and approaches to action in two geopolitically explosive regions, the Islamic region as well as Kazakhstan and Georgia.     Authors: Boer, Lukas;

    Authors: Streitfert, Anita;

    Im Verlauf der vergangenen Dekaden haben sich die sozio-ökonomischen wie auch die normativen und regulativen Grundlagen der Governance der Erwerbsarbeit in einer Weise verändert, die für das Handeln des einzelnen Menschen als Arbeitskraft und tätiges Subjekt neue Voraussetzungen schafft: Erwerbstätige gewinnen als unmittelbare individuelle Akteure in der Governance von Arbeit an Bedeutung. Die damit einhergehenden Prozesse der Flexibilisierung, Subjektivierung und Entgrenzung von Arbeit werden in den einschlägigen Debatten häufig und mit guten Gründen kritisch interpretiert, z. B. als erweiterte Landnahme oder Kolonialisierung von Subjektivität. Im Unterschied dazu wird in diesem Beitrag der Frage nachgegangen, ob und inwiefern sich hierdurch auch neue Chancen für eine nachhaltige(re) und sozialverträgliche(re) Gestaltung von Arbeit eröffnen. Insbesondere für hoch qualifizierte Beschäftigte als Individuen wie als ,neue‘ kollektive Akteure eröffnen sich hierbei Macht- und Möglichkeitsräume, ihre erweiterte Subjektperspektive zur Geltung zu bringen - mit womöglich durchaus ambivalenten Wirkungen auf Strukturen der Governance von Erwerbsarbeit und für betriebliche Arbeitsbeziehungen. Since the 1980s, governance structures of work and employment and their regulative and normative foundations have changed significantly. Due to reforms of the welfare state and the emergence of new production concepts, employees gained in significance as individual actors. The flexibilisation, disentanglement and subjectivisation of work confronted individual employees with enhanced psycho-social stress at work, new management strategies capitalising on their subjectivity for economic goals and taking more individual responsibility for their career and course of life. However, in this contribution options for a more sustainable design of work are explored that are closely linked with employees as individual actors. New production concepts are increasingly vulnerable to highly skilled individual employees in their self-regulation of work. This dependence can open up new options for highly skilled employees to claim socially accepted demands on sustainability in work organisations - however, with ambivalent side effects as the fragmentation of interests within workforces.     Authors: Droste-Franke, Bert;

    Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, ausgehend von vorhandenen Ansätzen, ein geschlossenes Konzept für die Berücksichtigung von Schäden durch die Schadstoffbelastung der Umwelt als Ergänzung von Volkswirtschaftlichen Gesamtrechnungen, sogenannten Umweltökonomischen Gesamtrechnungen (UGR), abzuleiten und dieses anhand der Umweltbelastung durch Luftschadstoffe und toxische Substanzen durchzuführen. Ausgehend von der Diskussion der beiden übergeordneten Ziele für eine umweltverträgliche wirtschaftliche Entwicklung, Effizienz und Nachhaltigkeit, werden zunächst Unterziele in Form von Prioritäten aufgestellt. Aus ihnen wird dann auf der Basis vorhandener Konzepte zu Indikatoren und UGR ein System von aggregierten Indikatoren entwickelt. Zur Berechnung der Indikatoren wird die Methodik des erweiterten Wirkungspfadansatzes vorgestellt. Neben der detaillierten Diskussion von Konzentrationswerten und Gesamtschäden für 1990 und 1998 erfolgt eine Analyse des zeitlichen und räumlichen Imports und Exports von Schäden sowie der Schäden, die durch unterschiedliche wirtschaftliche Aktivitäten in Deutschland entstehen. Zusätzlich werden mit Hilfe der Indikatoren die Nachhaltigkeit der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung und die Effizienz definierter Umweltziele beispielhaft für das Jahr 2005 untersucht. Zur Demonstration der Anwendbarkeit der berechneten Ergebnisse im Rahmen von UGR werden unter anderem beispielhaft Korrekturen der Wirtschaftsindikatoren durchgeführt, wie sie von Projekten der Europäischen Kommission und Aktivitäten der Vereinten Nationen in diesem Bereich vorgeschlagen werden. Die ermittelten gesamten Schadenskosten für die Jahre 1990 und 1998 in den EU-15 Staaten und Deutschland betragen mehrere Prozent des jeweiligen Bruttoinlandsprodukts. Die Analyse des Jahres 2005 hat gezeigt, dass die politischen Ziele für 2010 größtenteils bereits in 2005 eingehalten werden können. In einigen Ländern sind effiziente Minderungen über die Einhaltung der Ziele hinaus möglich. The objective of this thesis is to develop a consistent concept for the consideration of impacts due to the pollution of the environment in order to supplement national accounting systems in a so-called green accounting framework and to apply the concept for air pollution and the dispersion of toxic substances. Based on a discussion of the two major aims for environmentally friendly economic development, efficiency and sustainability, first, subordinate aims are formulated as priorities. These are used together with a discussion of existing concepts for indicators and environmental accounting to develop a system of aggregated indicators. For the estimation of indicator values, the extended impact pathway approach is presented. Besides a detailed discussion of the concentration levels and damages for 1990 and 1998, an analysis of temporal and spatial import and export of damages as well as the amount of damages caused by different economic activities in Germany are assessed. Furthermore, the sustainability of the economic development and the efficiency of given environmental targets are analysed applying the indicators exemplarily for the year 2005. In order to demonstrate the applicability of the results within environmental accounts, among other things exemplary corrections of economic indicators are carried out following the proposals from European Commission projects and from activities of the United Nations in this area. The estimated total damage costs occurring in 1990 and 1998 within the EU-15 and Germany result to a few percent of the respective gross domestic product. The analysis of the year 2005 showed that in some countries political targets which were originally set for 2010 can already be reached in 2005. Furthermore, in some countries efficient reductions beyond the accomplishment of the targets are possible.

    Die intensive Nutzung in Landwirtschaft und Forstwirtschaft und damit einhergehende Bodendegradation stellen eine enorme Herausforderung für die menschliche Gesellschaft dar. Insbesondere die Übernutzung reduziert die Ernährungssicherheit, führt zur Emission von Treibhausgasen und Aerosolen, treibt den Verlust der biologischen Vielfalt an, verschmutzt das Wasser und untergräbt eine Vielzahl von Ökosystemdienstlei - stungen, die über die Nahrungsmittelversorgung sowie die Wasser- und Klimaregulierung hinausgehen. Die direkten Emissionen durch Entwaldung, Düngung, Reisanbau und Wiederkäuer belaufen sich derzeit auf etwa 25% aller menschlichen Treibhausgasemissionen. Der intensiven Landnutzung zugrunde liegen sowohl das Bevölkerungswachstum, der Anstieg im pro-Kopf-Verbrauch an Kalorien, Holz und Fasern sowie verstärkter Konsum von Fleisch- und Milchprodukten. Dieses Kapitel fasst diese soziökonomischen Aspekte kurz zusammen und führt in die grundsätzlichen Prozesse ein, die der Emission von CO2, CH4 und N2O zugrunde liegen. In verschiedenen Kapiteln in diesem Buch werden diese Prozesse wieder aufgegriffen und unter verschiedenen Gesichtspunkten detaillierter beleuchtet. Socioeconomic aspects of land use change, effects on biogeochemical cycles and greenhouse gas emissions: Intensive agriculture and forestry and associated land degradation, pose an enormous challenge to human society. Overuse of land ecosystems reduces food security, leads to emissions of greenhouse gases and aerosols, drives biodiversity loss, pollutes water, and undermines a wide range of ecosystem services beyond food supply and water and climate regulation. Direct emissions from deforestation, fertilization, rice cultivation, and ruminants currently amount to about 25% of all human greenhouse gas emissions. Drivers of intensive land useare population growth, together with increases in per capita consumption of calories, wood, and fiber, and a shift towards consumption of meat and dairy products. This chapter briefly summarizes these socioeconomic aspects and introduces the basic processes underlying the emission of CO2, CH4, and N2O. Various chapters in this book revisit these processes and examine them in more detail from different perspectives. Aspectos socioeconómicos del cambio de uso de la tierra, efectos en los ciclos biogeoquímicos y emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero: El uso intensivo del suelo en la agricultura y la silvicultura asi como la asociada degradación del suelo representan un enorme desafío para la sociedad humana. En particular, el sobreuso hace peligrar la seguridad alimentaria, conduce a la emisión de gases de efecto invernadero y aerosoles, incrementa la pérdida de biodiversidad, contamina el agua y socava una variedad de servicios de los ecosistemas más allá del suministro de alimentos y la regulación del agua y el clima. Las emisiones directas de la deforestación, la fertilización, el cultivo de arroz y los rumiantes representan actualmente alrededor del 25% de todas las emisiones antrópicas de gases de efecto invernadero. El uso intensivo de la tierra se basa en el crecimiento de la población, el aumento del consumo per cápita de calorías, madera y fibra y un mayor consumo de carne y productos lácteos. Este capítulo resume brevemente estos aspectos socioeconómicos e introduce los procesos fundamentales que subyacen a la emisión de CO2, CH4 y N2O. Estos procesos se retoman en varios capítulos de este libro y se examinan con más detalle desde varias perspectivas.

    Authors: Zhang, Yajin;

    Authors: Rühl, Anna Theresa; Donath, Tobias W.; Eckstein, R. Lutz; Otte, Annette;

    Klimawandel, Wachstumswende, demographische Veränderungen, die weltweite Wirtschafts- und Finanzkrise sowie die Erfordernisse der Nachhaltigkeit machen neuartige Lösungsansätze für bisher unbekannte Problemkonstellationen erforderlich. In diesem Band beschäftigen sich AutorInnen aus Dänemark, Norwegen, Polen, Deutschland, der Schweiz, Österreich und Italien mit Ansätzen der Demokratisierung, sozialen Innovation und Partizipation, insbesondere von benachteiligten Gruppen. Der internationale Blick wird über den europäischen Raum hinaus um Analysen und Handlungsansätze in zwei geopolitisch brisanten Regionen erweitert, dem islamischen Raum sowie Kasachstan und Georgien. (DIPF/Orig.) Climate change, a turnaround in growth, demographic changes, the global economic and financial crisis as well as the requirements of sustainability make new solutions to previously unknown problem constellations necessary. In this volume, authors from Denmark, Norway, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy deal with approaches to democratization, social innovation and participation, especially of disadvantaged groups. The international view is broadened beyond the European area to include analyses and approaches to action in two geopolitically explosive regions, the Islamic region as well as Kazakhstan and Georgia.
