In order to generate those types of policies, it is pre-requisite for policy-makers to have a comprehensive approach comprising economic, social and environmental dimensions. The issue of energy is located at the conjunction point of these dimensions. In this context, this paper will survey debates on nuclear energy's sustainability with special reference to Turkey's nuclear program. It will argue that Turkish electricity generation from nuclear will only be preferable in the case that social and environmental risks are minimized, more importantly, social consensus is achieved.

For this purpose, Turkey's data for the period of 1990-2016 were examined with a boundary test base on an Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model (ARDL). According to test results, there appears to be cointegration between the variables. Besides, it was found that economic growth increased carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions both in the short -and the long term while renewable energy consumption reduced CO2 emissions both in the short- and long term.

In the current literature SFA, which is one of the commonly used efficiency analysis tool in many different areas, has not been studied previously to measure wind turbine efficiencies. Stochastic nature is the key advantage of SFA, whereby frontier deviations include both external effects that are not within the company's control and technical inefficiency. The proposed approach was used to calculate efficiency of each wind turbines to compare each other and to determine whole wind farm efficiency according to four different cases. These cases were introduced to determine the effects of different input parameters on the efficiency levels. Thereby, the other crucial interest of this study is to answer which factors are effective to measure the efficiency of a wind turbine by implementing four different input oriented cases. Also, these four cases studied under three different time periods; monthly averaged data, twelve monthly averaged data, and twenty four monthly data. Results showed that different input groups gave different efficiency results. Whether the efficiency loses originated from statistical noise or technical inefficiency could be concluded by the advantage of SFA.

Omca;Ozdemir, Nevin/0000-0002-2329-5791 WOS: 000257563800020 In this study we explored Turkish prospective teachers' attitudes towards the use of nuclear energy and construction of nuclear plants, a recent topic of discussion in Turkish medya. We conducted a survey including thirteen demographic and twenty 5-point Likert-scale items. In order to evaluate the reliability of the Likert-scale, we administrated the survey to 124 randomly choosen prospective teachers. The factor analysis an the principal components analysis revealed a reliabilty of 88. The accepted alpha value in the variance analysis between groups was.05. Later, we administred the survey to a total of 506 prospective teachers from the social and the science teaching programs in the Faculty of Education at Ondokuz Mayis University. Study analysis revealed meaningful differences among participants academic levels and socio-economic levels. Majority of our participants (51%) expressed that they did not have any formal knowledge on nuclear energy. Participants, who responded that they have same formal knowledge expressed that the mass media environmental courses and textbooks were the sources of their knowledge.

25th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference, SIU 2017 -- 15 May 2017 through 18 May 2017 -- -- 128703 For a two-user cooperative multiple access channel with energy harvesting transmitters, we formulate and solve the achievable departure region maximization problem under finite battery capacities and energy storage losses. Treating delay constrained and delay tolerant cooperation scenarios separately, we investigate the dependence of the optimum transmission power and rate allocation policy on the battery limitations and storage inefficiencies. We obtain and compare the achievable departure regions for delay constrained and tolerant scenarios. © 2017 IEEE.

Seasonal changes in the composition, abundance and biomass of zooplankton in the seas of the Mediterranean basin (the Mediterranean, Black and Azov seas) have been reviewed using our own data and data from the literature. In the deep-water central regions of the seas, the seasonal cycle of zooplankton abundance is characterised by one maximum occuring in spring or summer. in the coastal regions, two to three peaks (spring, summer and autumn) exist for the zooplankton abundance. The amplitude of seasonal fluctuations in abundance for the coastal zone as a rule is much wider than for the deep-water regions. In both coastal and central deep-water regions, the amplitude of seasonal fluctuations increases from the Mediterranean to the Black and Azov seas, as well as from south to north in each sea. This corresponds to seasonal changes in the amplitude of water temperature and the abundance of phytoplankton as the basic factors influencing zooplankton abundance. The dominant role in defining seasonal changes in total zooplankton abundance is played by the main group - copepods, which in some years form up to 90% of zooplankton numbers and biomass. During the warm period of a year, cladocerans may replace copepods.

The determination of an important energy source of oil demand elasticity plays a role in measuring the impact on the design of appropriate energy policy and energy demand of these policies. The purpose of this study is to estimate price and income elasticities of industrial oil demand in OECD countries for the period 1997-2013. Firstly, the literature relating sectoral energy consumption in OECD countries were reviewed. And then, the determinant of sectoral energy consumption in OECD countries was discussed. We examined the energy demand models in the relevant literature to create an empirical analysis framework. We use dynamic panel data methods to estimate industrial oil demand elasticities in OECD countries after determining the appropriate model. According to the results, the demand for energy in the industrial sector of the 1% increase in oil prices, while reducing the rate of 1.76%, oil consumption of an increase of 1% will occur in the industrial production index also shows that increased by 1.34%. According to these results, in terms of price and income elasticity, demand for oil in the industrial sector in OECD countries is elastic. WOS: 000414204600012
