Research data keyboard_double_arrow_right Dataset 1993Publisher:University of Gothenburg Authors: SOM Institute, University Of Gothenburg;doi: 10.5878/000211 , 10.5878/002357
This dataset contains information from the sixth study in a series of annual SOM-surveys. The questionnaire was divided into six subject fields: mass media; politics and society; energy, nuclear power and environment; Sweden's relation to other countries; leisure; and background. Many of the questions are replications of questions asked in previous SOM-surveys, but there is also a number of questions not asked in previous surveys. These questions deals with the content of local morning papers; visits to foreign countries; Swedish television's treatment of those in power in other countries; own and next of kin's utilization of different services, and if one is working within any of these services; judgement of different local services; the Middle East crisis; TV-channels; thoughts of moving to another country, and to which country you should move if you were forced to. Purpose: The main purpose is to establish time series that enable researchers to analyse how various changes in society affect people's attitudes and behaviour.

Oskarshamn is one of the municipalities being discussed as a possible site for disposal of nuclear waste from the Swedish nuclear power plants, and there has been inquiries made for a pilot study in the area. In view of this the local council of Oskarshamn appointed a ´Youth team´, consisting of ten young politicians from all political parties represented in the local council. The aim of the team was to inform and create debate among adolescents about how to store the radioactive waste from nuclear power plants. The purpose of this survey, addressed to young people in Oskarshamn, was to shed light on their opinion towards a pilot study and possible disposal of nuclear waste in Oskarshamn. The respondents had to answer questions about their opinion on the use of nuclear power in Sweden, if they believed nuclear power to be abolished by year 2010, and about their general interest in issues concerning energy and nuclear power. Other questions concerned risks associated with nuclear power, the influence different groups have/ought to have when it comes to disposal of nuclear waste, and if the respondent would accept a decision to dispose nuclear waste in Oskarshamn. A number of questions dealt with the suggested pilot study; if the respondent was for or against a pilot study; who should decide about the pilot study; if there had been enough information about the study; and if the respondent had attended any meeting, signed any petition, contacted any politician, contacted or participated in mass media, or tried to influence anyone´s opinion on any issue concerning the pilot study. The respondents also had to state the issues they considered to be important to study in a pilot study. Furthermore the respondents had to give their opinion about a number of risks discussed in connection with disposal of nuclear waste in Oskarshamn. Other questions concerned the influence on job opportunities and tourism. Demographic items include age, gender, marital status, children, education, occupation, and trade union membership. De delades in i två grupper baserat på deras fysiska aktivitetsnivåer, enligt WHO riktlinjer. This study employed a mixed-method approach combining interviews and data from the Measuring Energy Expenditure and Dietary Intake at Different Activity Levels (MEDAL) project. A seven-day food record provided detailed insights into participants' food intake, focusing on protein sources and carbon footprint (CO2e). Participants, aged 18-40, were recruited from Gothenburg University and local sports clubs between October 2020 and April 2021. They were divided into two groups based on their physical activity levels, following WHO guidelines. Data collection included semi-structured interviews and a seven-day food record using the Nutrition Data online tool. Resting energy expenditure was measured using indirect calorimetry. The interviews explored food shopping habits, dietary preferences, and climate impact considerations without directly informing participants of the climate focus to avoid bias. Quantitative data were analyzed with statistical tests, while qualitative insights were triangulated with food records to assess climate-conscious and sustainable food consumption practices. The analysis was guided by social practice theory, focusing on the interplay between participants' attitudes and behaviors. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS, and significant findings were determined with a p-value of 0.05 or lower.

In order to identify how the evolution of society affects Swedes’ attitudes and behaviour, the SOM Institute started its National SOM study in 1986. National SOM addresses three areas - society, opinion and mass media - and consists of several parallel surveys. All surveys include a large number of questions related to politics, society, media and social background, but their areas of focus differ. In 2014, the following questionnaires are distributed: Sweden 1 focusing on society and politics; Sweden 2 focusing on media and news coverage; Sweden 3 focusing on culture, life style and health; Sweden 4 focusing on economy and welfare. Purpose: The main purpose is to establish time series that enable researchers to analyse how various changes in society affect people's attitudes and behaviour.

Since 1986 the SOM-institute has been carrying out an annual nation-wide survey - the National SOM - in order to identify the Swedish public's habits and attitudes on the topics of society, politics and media. This study was conducted in connection with the 1976 election study in order to study how the question of nuclear power has been handled by the press. Twenty daily newspapers were analysed during five weeks in the autumn 1976. The papers analysed were chosen after their political preferences in order to represent the different views of the major political parties. The study includes 2807 editorials, articles, advertisements and other materials containing views on the use of nuclear power.

Since 1986 the SOM-institute has been carrying out an annual nation-wide survey - the National SOM - in order to identify the Swedish public's habits and attitudes on the topics of society, politics and media. National SOM 2007 is accordingly the twentysecond survey in this series. The SOM-institute is a collaboration between three departments/institutes at Göteborg University: the Institute for Journalism and Mass Communication, the Department of Political Science, and the Center for Public Sector Research (CEFOS). A number of research projects are involved in the National SOM - most from one of these three institutions, but also external projects are involved. Since 1998 the survey includes two nation representative samples and uses two different mail questionnaires. One of the questionnaires mainly deals with questions on politics, economy and working life, while the other mainly deals with media, culture and life style. The data collection is carried out in parallel and under identical conditions. In 2007 approximately one fifth of the questions asked in the two questionnaires are common for both samples, for example questions about media habits, political attitudes, leisure activities, and social background. The questionnaire on politics include ten different subject fields: news and media; politics, society and democracy; radio, television and the internet; Sweden's relations to the surrounding world; society and public service; environment and energy; knowledge and society; activities, interests, and values; work life; and background questions. The media questionnaire is divided into nine subject fields: news and papers; politics, society and democracy; radio and television; media technology, mobile telephony and internet; periodicals, books and libraries; movies and theatre; activities, interests, and values; work life and background questions. Purpose: The main purpose is to establish time series that enable researchers to analyse how various changes in society affect people's attitudes and behaviour.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.euResearch data keyboard_double_arrow_right Dataset 2024Publisher:Umeå University Authors: Ingridsdotter, Jenny; Vallström, Maria;Under sommaren 2018 utbröt de hittills största skogsbränderna i svensk modern historia. 2. Hur minns och berättar människor om skogsbranden? 3. In the summer of 2018, wildfires erupted in Swedish forests at a magnitude without precedence in modern Swedish history. The purpose of this project is to study how local communities particularly affected by the wildfires in 2018 mobilized local resources to cope with the crisis, how local residents narrate the crisis and its aftermath, and what the crisis led to in terms of strategies and awareness of sustainable development in the future. Through digital ethnography, qualitative interviews and focus group interviews the project examines three questions: 1. How did local residents act during the actual events of the wildfire? 2. How are the wildfires and the mobilizations remembered and narrated? 3. Does local history and forestry traditions and practices impact on how local communities imagine possible futures? Through an ethnographic approach, we wish to capture the tensions between the past, the present and the possible future, with the idea of trying to show the potential for resilient communities in a world of global climate change. This study contributes ethnographic insight into how disaster can be managed and how it changes individual and collective cultural norms and conceptions of time, as well as management of resources in local communities. The data consists of pseudonymized transcripts of interviews. Accessible metadata describes the interviews.

This is the second study in the series of SOM-surveys carried out in Western Sweden exclusively. The questionnaire was divided into six subject fields: mass media; politics and society; the municipality of Göteborg; energy, nuclear power and environment; leisure and housing; and background. Many of the questions are replications of questions asked in SOM-survey Western Sweden 1992 (SSD 0460), but there is also a number of new questions. These questions dealt with time spent listening to the radio, viewing morning television and reading morning paper; impression of morning television; amount of local government issues read in the local paper; confidence in a number of Swedish mass media; opinion on a number of statements concerning the regional division of Sweden. Respondents living in Göteborg had to answer a number of questions dealing with the magazine ´Vårt Göteborg´, published by Göteborg local authority. Other questions specific for respondents living in Göteborg dealt with the neighbourhood committees and their activities. Respondents also had to give their opinion on a number of proposals concerning local environmental issues. Furthermore they had to indicate how often they had participated in a number of leisure activities the last twelve months. Purpose: Study attitudes and behaviors that are linked to local and regional issues and phenomena Detta är den andra studien i serien SOM-undersökningar genomförda i Västsverige.

National SOM 2011 is accordingly the twentyfifth survey in this series. Purpose: The main purpose is to establish time series that enable researchers to analyse how various changes in society affect people's attitudes and behaviour.
