    Authors: SOM Institute, University Of Gothenburg;

    Detta är den sjätte undersökningen i serien Riks-SOM, en nationell frågeundersökning med syfte att kartlägga den svenska allmänhetens vanor och attityder på temat samhälle, opinioner och medier. 1991 års undersökning består av sex sammanhållna delar: massmedier; politik och samhälle; energi, kärnkraft och miljö; Sveriges förhållande till omvärlden; fritid; samt bakgrundsuppgifter. Många av frågorna har ställts i tidigare SOM-undersökning, men ett antal frågor har tillkommit. Nya frågeställningar i Riks-SOM 1991 gäller innehållet i den lokala morgontidningen; besök i olika länder; Sveriges Televisions behandling av de styrande i andra länder; det egna och nära anhörigas utnyttjande av olika serviceområden samt om man själv arbetade inom något av dessa serviceområden; omdömen om olika kommunala serviceområden; Mellanösternkrisen; tittande på olika tv-kanaler; funderingar på att flytta till ett annat land och i så fall vilket, samt vilket land man skulle flytta till om man var tvungen att flytta. Genom att frågor ställts på ett likartat sätt över tid finns det i SOM-serien tidsserier om bland annat medieanvändning, politik, kärnkraftsopinion och förtroende för olika samhällsinstitutioner och grupper. Syfte: Huvudsyftet är att etablera tidsserier som gör det möjligt att analysera hur olika samhällsförändringar påverkar människors attityder och beteenden. This dataset contains information from the sixth study in a series of annual SOM-surveys. The questionnaire was divided into six subject fields: mass media; politics and society; energy, nuclear power and environment; Sweden's relation to other countries; leisure; and background. Many of the questions are replications of questions asked in previous SOM-surveys, but there is also a number of questions not asked in previous surveys. These questions deals with the content of local morning papers; visits to foreign countries; Swedish television's treatment of those in power in other countries; own and next of kin's utilization of different services, and if one is working within any of these services; judgement of different local services; the Middle East crisis; TV-channels; thoughts of moving to another country, and to which country you should move if you were forced to. Purpose: The main purpose is to establish time series that enable researchers to analyse how various changes in society affect people's attitudes and behaviour.

    Oskarshamn is one of the municipalities being discussed as a possible site for disposal of nuclear waste from the Swedish nuclear power plants, and there has been inquiries made for a pilot study in the area. In view of this the local council of Oskarshamn appointed a ´Youth team´, consisting of ten young politicians from all political parties represented in the local council. The aim of the team was to inform and create debate among adolescents about how to store the radioactive waste from nuclear power plants. The purpose of this survey, addressed to young people in Oskarshamn, was to shed light on their opinion towards a pilot study and possible disposal of nuclear waste in Oskarshamn. The respondents had to answer questions about their opinion on the use of nuclear power in Sweden, if they believed nuclear power to be abolished by year 2010, and about their general interest in issues concerning energy and nuclear power. Other questions concerned risks associated with nuclear power, the influence different groups have/ought to have when it comes to disposal of nuclear waste, and if the respondent would accept a decision to dispose nuclear waste in Oskarshamn. A number of questions dealt with the suggested pilot study; if the respondent was for or against a pilot study; who should decide about the pilot study; if there had been enough information about the study; and if the respondent had attended any meeting, signed any petition, contacted any politician, contacted or participated in mass media, or tried to influence anyone´s opinion on any issue concerning the pilot study. The respondents also had to state the issues they considered to be important to study in a pilot study. Furthermore the respondents had to give their opinion about a number of risks discussed in connection with disposal of nuclear waste in Oskarshamn. Other questions concerned the influence on job opportunities and tourism. Demographic items include age, gender, marital status, children, education, occupation, and trade union membership. Digital Annex for the following thesis: Vila-Viçosa, C. (2023). Natural History, Biogeography and Evolution of the Iberian white oak syngameon (Quercus L. Sect. Quercus). Ph.D. Thesis, Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto, Portugal Abstract: The genus Quercus L. is one of the most diverse and important group of woody plants, particularly when considering that they are the trees that rule the Northern Hemisphere forests. Oaks have an intricate Biogeography that criss-crosses diverse climatic and edaphic gradients, encompassing a huge ambiguity in terms of species delimitation. Frequently, the taxonomic proposals brought by traditional Linnaean Botany are either insufficient or rather inflate the number of species and nomenclatural assignments, which are further diluted into inconsistent taxonomic ranks, varying from species to subspecies and varieties. The supremacy given to morphological characters that are inherently fragile and plastic, spread across the distribution areas of distinct lineages, may carry ambiguity on the identification and proper species delimitation. From the oaks that are distributed across the Western Palearctic region, the ones that are deciduous or brevi-deciduous present higher levels of ambiguity in terms of species number and their delimitation. This ambiguity is particularly strong in the circummediterranean region and in the transitional areas between the two major biogeographic Regions of the western Palearctic region, the Euro-Siberian and Mediterranean. This degree of uncertainty, which increases towards the Southern European Peninsulas, is amplified by the ease that the different species of oaks tend to hybridize among them. The present work provides a holistic framework that covers multiple areas, from the taxonomic and evolutive study of this genus, to biogeography and molecular characterization. Its major objective was to resolve the species delimitation of the Iberian deciduous and marcescent oaks and putative introgression among them, enhancing the available knowledge about species diversity, which can foster suitable species and forest conservation. A specific objective was to cross-reference the natural history revision and the different taxonomic treatments brought by distinct authors, with personal observations. These data were then incorporated into ecological modelling and molecular characterization, which in the end fed a newly updated taxonomic proposal. In Section A we obtained results from extensive field, herbaria, and literature review, updating the nomenclature of the Portuguese and western Mediterranean oaks. Section B was supported by Section A’s in-depth review and enabled finer species distribution models, nurturing both hindcast (since ca. 20 Kyr) and forecast (2070-2100) exercises of the range dynamics of Mediterranean oaks species. The study of past and future range shifts solved important pending biogeographic questions, especially related to past range-shifts. Such past-range shifts improved our knowledge on species responses to climate dynamics and allowed a better anticipation of future responses of range shifts driven by climate change. Section C encompassed the molecular characterization of Iberian white oak species and their hybrids, whose delimitation is often faltering when one intends to infer about species rank, or hypothesize about the participation of parent taxon in natural hybrid swarms. This work allowed us to solve the phylogenetic backbone of western Palearctic white oaks, suggesting a significant segregation of the Iberian pedunculate oaks and unveiling two subsections inside Section Quercus. These subsections are biogeographically well-segregated and present diverse levels of introgression among species. Results demonstrated the efficiency of RADSeq for rebuilding the reticulate phylogeny of the Eurasian white oaks, showcasing the significance of the Iberian Peninsula as a major hotspot for oak diversity. We implemented a circular approach to these methods, which retro-fed themselves in terms of insight generation, enabling a powerful strategy to solve the evolutionary history of this difficult groups of plants. We estimate that the reticulate historical biogeography of the western Palearctic white oaks deserves further scrutiny by adding vicariant oak populations from northern Africa, the Near East and southern European Peninsulas. Methods should again follow this similar additive and sequential process of adjoining deep Natural History examination, with extensive fieldwork in type populations and genome-wide molecular surveys, in order to solve this group of plants. With the present work, we were able to significantly improve on the depiction of the basic unit of Biodiversity (the Species), in the complex Quercus genus. We provided tools to enable further efforts for the conservation of the Mediterranean oak forests, which overwhelm one of the most important (and one of the most threatened) Biomes for plant conservation at the global scale.

    This dataset was generated via a focused piece of research conducted by Dr Matilda Aspinall and Dr Amy Twigger Holroyd which investigated the experiences of students and staff involved in Fashion Fictions projects in 2022 at two institutions: LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore and Nottingham Trent University. This focused research was situated within the broader Fashion Fictions project. Fashion Fictions, founded by Amy Twigger Holroyd in 2020, brings people together to generate, experience and reflect on engaging fictional visions of alternative fashion cultures and systems. Through these activities, we gain new perspectives on challenges, possibilities and pathways for change in the real world. The project is structured in three stages. Stage 1 prompts contributors to create brief written outlines of fictional fashion cultures and systems, known as Worlds; at Stage 2, participants put flesh on these outlines and create visual or material prototypes to represent their cultures, known as Explorations; at Stage 3, they performatively enact practices or events from the fictional worlds. To find out more about Fashion Fictions, visit the project website. To see other data linked to the project, visit the Fashion Fictions Zenodo community. -------------------------------- In both institutions, Fashion Fictions was initially introduced to the curriculum in the 2020/21 academic year; the activities discussed here took place in the following year, with a second cohort of students. At NTU, first-year undergraduate students from BA (Hons) courses in Fashion Design, Textile Design and Fashion Knitwear Design & Knitted Textiles undertook a short Stage 2 Fashion Fictions project. Spanning three two-hour workshops, the project was part of a Future Thinking toolkit within a module that aims to develop students’ intellectual curiosity and appreciation of the future as something that can be shaped and questioned. Working in small cross-course groups, students were given a specified Stage 1 fiction and asked to create a visual or material prototype to represent everyday life in that world, presented via a selection of images and a short explanatory text. At LASALLE, Fashion Fictions was set up as a major project extending across a 14-week semester for second-year students on two BA (Hons) programmes: Fashion Media and Industries and Fashion Design and Textiles. Also working in cross-course collaborative groups, the students first created their own Stage 1 world and then progressed to create a collection of Stage 2 prototypes in the form of garments and related media such as photographs and films, accompanied by an extensive body of supporting work. -------------------------------- in April and May 2022 we conducted semi-structured interviews with tutors involved in the projects – Lorraine Warde (Principal Lecturer in Fashion Design) at NTU and Martin Bonney and Kathryn Shannon Sim Yen Ping (Lecturers in Fashion, interviewed together) at LASALLE – and with three student groups, selected by the tutors, from each institution. The interview schedules for students and tutors each comprised four reflective questions, designed to gain an insight into the students’ experiences and the tutors’ observations. Each recorded interview lasted between twenty and sixty minutes. -------------------------------- The dataset is organised in nine folders: 1 Project context Project website About page from February 2022 (explaining the wider project at the time of this research). Project website Education projects page from January 2022 (giving context to the education projects taking place at the time of this research). 2 Activity guidance Project website Stage 1 (World) online guide from January 2022 (as available for use by LASALLE students). NTU virtual workspace Stage 2 (Exploration) guidance (as used by NTU students and providing an indication of the type of guidance that would have been offered to LASALLE students for their Stage 2 work - although their project was much longer in duration). 3 Interview documentation Information sheet and consent form given to research participants. Interview questions for staff and students, shared with all participants in advance. 4 LASALLE staff interview Transcript of interview with Martin Bonney and Kathryn Shannon Sim Yen Ping (Lecturers in Fashion). 5 LASALLE student interviews Transcripts of interviews with three student groups, each identified by the number/letter of the Stage 1 World and Stage 2 Exploration they created (as listed on the project website Worlds and Explorations pages). 6 LASALLE student work Project work (Stage 1 Worlds and Stage 2 Explorations) created by the three student groups interviewed, as displayed on the project website. One group (World 154) did not submit their Exploration for the website. 7 NTU staff interview Transcript of interview with Lorraine Warde (Principal Lecturer in Fashion Design). 8 NTU student interviews Transcripts of interviews with three student groups, each identified by the number/letter of the Stage 2 Exploration they created (as listed on the project website Explorations page). 9 NTU student work Project work (Stage 2 Explorations) created by the three student groups interviewed. Two groups' work is as displayed on the project website. One group (World 95, Exploration X) did not submit their Exploration for the website and so their internal presentation has been included instead.

    Authors: Wollmar, Mari; Post, Anna; Sjöberg, Agneta;

    Studien syftar till att undersöka klimatmedvetenhet i relation till matvanor hos en grupp unga svenska vuxna, och att undersöka dess samband med fysisk aktivitetsnivå och kön. Följande forskningsfrågor ställdes: Hur kan sambandet mellan matvanor, aktivitetsnivåer och kön förstås i termer av energiintag, koldioxidavtryck och proteinkällor? Hur påverkar olika aspekter av matvanor koldioxidavtrycket? Hur beaktas hållbarhet inom ramen för matvanor? Denna studie använde en mixed-method-ansats som kombinerade intervjuer och data från projektet Measuring Energy Expenditure and Dietary Intake at Different Activity Levels (MEDAL). En sju dagars matregistrering gav detaljerade insikter i deltagarnas matintag med fokus på proteinkällor och koldioxidavtryck (CO2e). Deltagare i åldrarna 18-40 rekryterades från Göteborgs universitet och lokala idrottsklubbar mellan oktober 2020 och april 2021. De delades in i två grupper baserat på deras fysiska aktivitetsnivåer, enligt WHO riktlinjer. Datainsamlingen inkluderade semistrukturerade intervjuer och en sju dagars matregistrering med hjälp av onlineverktyget Nutrition Data. Energiförbrukning i vila mättes med indirekt kalorimetri. Intervjuerna undersökte matköpsvanor, kostpreferenser och klimatpåverkan utan att direkt informera deltagarna om klimatfokuset för att undvika bias. Kvantitativa data analyserades med statistiska tester, medan kvalitativa insikter triangulerades med kostregistreringarna för att bedöma eventuellt klimatmedvetna och hållbara matvanor. Analysen guidades av social praktik teori, med fokus på samspelet mellan deltagarnas attityder och beteenden. Statistisk analys genomfördes med SPSS, och signifikanta resultat bestämdes med ett p-värde på 0,05 eller lägre. This study employed a mixed-method approach combining interviews and data from the Measuring Energy Expenditure and Dietary Intake at Different Activity Levels (MEDAL) project. A seven-day food record provided detailed insights into participants' food intake, focusing on protein sources and carbon footprint (CO2e). Participants, aged 18-40, were recruited from Gothenburg University and local sports clubs between October 2020 and April 2021. They were divided into two groups based on their physical activity levels, following WHO guidelines. Data collection included semi-structured interviews and a seven-day food record using the Nutrition Data online tool. Resting energy expenditure was measured using indirect calorimetry. The interviews explored food shopping habits, dietary preferences, and climate impact considerations without directly informing participants of the climate focus to avoid bias. Quantitative data were analyzed with statistical tests, while qualitative insights were triangulated with food records to assess climate-conscious and sustainable food consumption practices. The analysis was guided by social practice theory, focusing on the interplay between participants' attitudes and behaviors. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS, and significant findings were determined with a p-value of 0.05 or lower.

    Authors: SOM Institute, University Of Gothenburg;

    För att kunna förstå hur samhällsutvecklingen påverkar svenska folkets attityder och beteenden, har SOM-institutet sedan 1986 genomfört Riks-SOM. Första mätningen skedde genom samverkan mellan ett par forskningsprojekt vid Göteborgs universitet, men intresset för resultaten blev stort och SOM-institutet etablerades med ansvar att göra en ny undersökning varje höst. Riks-SOM fokuserar på tre teman - samhälle, opinion och massmedier. Mellan 1998 och 2008 genomfördes Riks-SOM som två parallella undersökningar med två representativa urval och två olika formulär. År 2009 utökades undersökningen ytterligare till tre delundersökningar, med ett urval om totalt 9 000 personer. Samtidigt kortades formulären något. 2012 tillkom ytterligare en delundersökning och urvalet omfattade 12 000 personer. De fyra formulären skiljer sig något åt i det att tyngdpunkten i Riks-1 ligger på samhälle och politik; i Riks-2 på medier och nyhetsförmedling; i Riks-3 på kultur, livsstil och hälsa; i Riks-4 på ekonomi och välfärd. Datainsamlingen genomförs parallellt och under identiska förhållanden. Syfte: Huvudsyftet är att etablera tidsserier som gör det möjligt att analysera hur olika samhällsförändringar påverkar människors attityder och beteenden. In order to identify how the evolution of society affects Swedes’ attitudes and behaviour, the SOM Institute started its National SOM study in 1986. National SOM addresses three areas - society, opinion and mass media - and consists of several parallel surveys. All surveys include a large number of questions related to politics, society, media and social background, but their areas of focus differ. In 2014, the following questionnaires are distributed: Sweden 1 focusing on society and politics; Sweden 2 focusing on media and news coverage; Sweden 3 focusing on culture, life style and health; Sweden 4 focusing on economy and welfare. Purpose: The main purpose is to establish time series that enable researchers to analyse how various changes in society affect people's attitudes and behaviour.

    Authors: M.M. Almeida; A.A. Más; T.M. Silva; M.F. Montemor;

    Abstract High power pseudocapacitors are extremely relevant to answer specific needs in the current energy transition arena and to implement an efficient renewable energy society. However, literature shows that are still open gaps concerning improvement of their energy density at high power, conversion efficiency, cost and cycle life. Electrodes based on active transition metal compounds, and in particular metal sulphides, evidence high potential to meet these objectives. This work discusses the dependence on the synthesis route of the charge storage mechanism of manganese sulphide-based materials and relates the pseudocapacitive response of these electrodes with their polycrystalline nature. Results reveal that a manganese oxy-sulphide mixture can achieve a high specific capacitance of 231 F.g−1 at 0.5 A/g in a 0.65 V active window. These values represent a 31.5 % increase compared to pure rambergite, γ-MnS, and 436 % compared to pure hausmannite Mn3O4 prepared under the same conditions. Moreover, the results show that manganese oxy-sulphide electrodes are characterized by good charge retention (73%), and superior long term capacity retention (above 86%) after 5000 cycles, evidencing potential for high power energy storage applications.

    Authors: SOM Institute, University Of Gothenburg;

    Authors: Wollmar, Mari; Post, Anna; Sjöberg, Agneta;

    Studien syftar till att undersöka klimatmedvetenhet i relation till matvanor hos en grupp unga svenska vuxna, och att undersöka dess samband med fysisk aktivitetsnivå och kön. Följande forskningsfrågor ställdes: Hur kan sambandet mellan matvanor, aktivitetsnivåer och kön förstås i termer av energiintag, koldioxidavtryck och proteinkällor? Hur påverkar olika aspekter av matvanor koldioxidavtrycket? Hur beaktas hållbarhet inom ramen för matvanor? Denna studie använde en mixed-method-ansats som kombinerade intervjuer och data från projektet Measuring Energy Expenditure and Dietary Intake at Different Activity Levels (MEDAL). En sju dagars matregistrering gav detaljerade insikter i deltagarnas matintag med fokus på proteinkällor och koldioxidavtryck (CO2e). Deltagare i åldrarna 18-40 rekryterades från Göteborgs universitet och lokala idrottsklubbar mellan oktober 2020 och april 2021. De delades in i två grupper baserat på deras fysiska aktivitetsnivåer, enligt WHO riktlinjer. Datainsamlingen inkluderade semistrukturerade intervjuer och en sju dagars matregistrering med hjälp av onlineverktyget Nutrition Data. Energiförbrukning i vila mättes med indirekt kalorimetri. Intervjuerna undersökte matköpsvanor, kostpreferenser och klimatpåverkan utan att direkt informera deltagarna om klimatfokuset för att undvika bias. Kvantitativa data analyserades med statistiska tester, medan kvalitativa insikter triangulerades med kostregistreringarna för att bedöma eventuellt klimatmedvetna och hållbara matvanor. Analysen guidades av social praktik teori, med fokus på samspelet mellan deltagarnas attityder och beteenden. Statistisk analys genomfördes med SPSS, och signifikanta resultat bestämdes med ett p-värde på 0,05 eller lägre. This study employed a mixed-method approach combining interviews and data from the Measuring Energy Expenditure and Dietary Intake at Different Activity Levels (MEDAL) project. A seven-day food record provided detailed insights into participants' food intake, focusing on protein sources and carbon footprint (CO2e). Participants, aged 18-40, were recruited from Gothenburg University and local sports clubs between October 2020 and April 2021. They were divided into two groups based on their physical activity levels, following WHO guidelines. Data collection included semi-structured interviews and a seven-day food record using the Nutrition Data online tool. Resting energy expenditure was measured using indirect calorimetry. The interviews explored food shopping habits, dietary preferences, and climate impact considerations without directly informing participants of the climate focus to avoid bias. Quantitative data were analyzed with statistical tests, while qualitative insights were triangulated with food records to assess climate-conscious and sustainable food consumption practices. The analysis was guided by social practice theory, focusing on the interplay between participants' attitudes and behaviors. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS, and significant findings were determined with a p-value of 0.05 or lower.

    Authors: SOM Institute, University Of Gothenburg;

    För att kunna förstå hur samhällsutvecklingen påverkar svenska folkets attityder och beteenden, har SOM-institutet sedan 1986 genomfört Riks-SOM. Första mätningen skedde genom samverkan mellan ett par forskningsprojekt vid Göteborgs universitet, men intresset för resultaten blev stort och SOM-institutet etablerades med ansvar att göra en ny undersökning varje höst. Riks-SOM fokuserar på tre teman - samhälle, opinion och massmedier. Mellan 1998 och 2008 genomfördes Riks-SOM som två parallella undersökningar med två representativa urval och två olika formulär. År 2009 utökades undersökningen ytterligare till tre delundersökningar, med ett urval om totalt 9 000 personer. Samtidigt kortades formulären något. 2012 tillkom ytterligare en delundersökning och urvalet omfattade 12 000 personer. De fyra formulären skiljer sig något åt i det att tyngdpunkten i Riks-1 ligger på samhälle och politik; i Riks-2 på medier och nyhetsförmedling; i Riks-3 på kultur, livsstil och hälsa; i Riks-4 på ekonomi och välfärd. Datainsamlingen genomförs parallellt och under identiska förhållanden. Syfte: Huvudsyftet är att etablera tidsserier som gör det möjligt att analysera hur olika samhällsförändringar påverkar människors attityder och beteenden. In order to identify how the evolution of society affects Swedes’ attitudes and behaviour, the SOM Institute started its National SOM study in 1986. National SOM addresses three areas - society, opinion and mass media - and consists of several parallel surveys. All surveys include a large number of questions related to politics, society, media and social background, but their areas of focus differ. In 2014, the following questionnaires are distributed: Sweden 1 focusing on society and politics; Sweden 2 focusing on media and news coverage; Sweden 3 focusing on culture, life style and health; Sweden 4 focusing on economy and welfare. Purpose: The main purpose is to establish time series that enable researchers to analyse how various changes in society affect people's attitudes and behaviour.

    Authors: M.M. Almeida; A.A. Más; T.M. Silva; M.F. Montemor;
