Thus, there is a strong incentive to enhance pitch control technology in order to counteract the negative effects of unidentified delays and non-minimum phase characteristics. To reduce the complexity of the parameter-tuning process and improve the performance of the system, in this paper, we propose a novel control method for wind turbine pitch angle with time delays. Specifically, the proposed control method is state-space PIDD2, which is based on internal model control (IMC) and the open-loop system step response. Then, considering the tracking, disturbance rejection and measurement noise, the proposed controller is verified through simulations. The simulation results demonstrate that the state-space PIDD2 (SS-PIDD2) can provide a trade-off between robustness, time domain performance and measurement noise attenuation and effectively improve pitch control performance in contrast to series PID and PI control methods.

This paper considers several scenarios for four countries’ electricity production from primary energy sources to estimate total CO2 release. Energy consumption of the vehicle per 100 km, emissions during manufacturing, battery production, and lifecycle of the vehicle are considered in the total amount evaluation of CO2 released. The results show that with current technologies for battery manufacturing, and a significant proportion of national grid electricity delivered by fossil fuels, BEV is the best choice to reduce carbon emissions for shorter driving ranges. In the case of electricity generation mainly by low-carbon sources, FCEV and BEV-FCEV hybrid vehicles end up with lower carbon dioxide emissions. In contrast, with electricity mainly generated from fossil fuels, electric vehicles do not reduce CO2 emissions compared to combustion cars.

To minimize that problem, which is particularly clear and dangerous in the period of a shortage of fossil fuels, the Polish authorities have decided to establish various institutions, organizational and regulatory solutions. Their role is to support the development of renewable energy sources and local energy communities. The latter are to focus on optimizing the production and consumption of energy in pursuit of energy self-sufficiency on a local scale. One such institution, set up in Poland over the last several years, is the energy cooperative, which is intended to increase the efficient use of the potential of renewable energy sources in rural and urban–rural areas. The authors of this article verify the assumptions, for instance, the number, composition or production and members’ consumption profiles, under which such a relatively new institution has the chance to develop. A novelty in this research paper is that the interests of the entities composing a given energy cooperative may additionally be secured by the use of surplus generation for crypto-coin mining, and thus the storage of energy in virtual currency. A dedicated mathematical model in mixed-integer programming technology was used, enriched with respect to previous research, making it possible for members of the cooperative to achieve energy independence while maximizing self-consumption and using their excess energy for processing cryptocurrency. This is in line with the global trend of “greening”; the processes of acquiring electronic money.

Here, energy prices are of particular importance. Energy is what offers a competitive edge to economies. Therefore, many energy sectors still remain under state control. However, the fuel market is free although highly concentrated. The primary objective of this study was to determine the impact of fuel price changes on inflation in Poland. The research was based on causality models and regression models including asymmetry correction. The flow path was analyzed of price impulses from the basic raw material (i.e., crude oil) through wholesale diesel prices to inflation. The study demonstrates that with each successive stage of raw material processing, price volatility proves to be weaker. However, the final effect is still significant: inflation is largely shaped by energy carriers and, here, specifically by fuel prices. Such results have serious implications for the state’s economic policy. On one hand, they point to the limitations of this policy and, on the other hand, they raise questions about the legitimacy of the reforms that free up energy markets.

The use of solar free energy is not neglected in the present energy crisis, with the intention to move toward green energies. However, an important problem arises concerning the limited amount of solar energy available on board UAVs. Until now, high-aerodynamic-efficiency configurations have been used. These configurations use high-aspect-ratio wings. However, high-aspect-ratio wings have some disadvantages regarding their excessive elasticity and weak bending resistance in the housing section. Additionally, the aircraft maneuverability is reduced. In this work, a study is proposed on a solar UAV configuration that sacrifices high aerodynamic efficiency for a higher surface area available for solar cells. In this manner, the amount of energy available on board the UAV is increased, and the UAV structure becomes more rigid and robust. The presented UAV fits better with more complex evolutions, is more maneuverable and the wingspan is much reduced. This UAV is more compact, can maneuver better in the take-off and landing phases, and the necessary storage space is considerably reduced. This paper highlights the performances that can be achieved using this kind of UAV and explores whether these performances are enough for some applications. Using an on-board energy balance, the possible performances of this new configuration is studied. As this is a preliminary study, the precision level is not very high, but it offers an image concerning the possibilities of this new configuration.

This is due to their high renewable energy potential combined with high plant efficiency and utilization rates. For the optimal integration and sector coupling of heating networks in holistic urban energy systems, open source energy system modeling tools are highly recommended. In this contribution, two open source approaches (the “Spreadsheet Energy System Model Generator”-integrated DHNx-Python module (DHNx/SESMG) and Thermos) are theoretically compared, and practically applied to a real-world energy system. Deviations within the results can be explained by incorrectly pre-defined parameters within Thermos and cannot be adjusted by the modeler. The simultaneity is underestimated in the case study by Thermos by more than 20%. This results in undersized heating plant capacities and a 50% higher number of buildings connected to the network. However, Thermos offers a higher end-user usability and over 100 times faster solving. DHNx/SESMG, in contrast, offers the possibility to adjust more model parameters individually and consider multiple energy sectors. This enables a holistic modeling of urban energy systems and the model-based optimization of multi-sectoral synergies.

As the take-off is an energy-demanding phase of the flight; therefore, abandoning the power supply of the UAV during this phase significantly affects increasing the potential range and duration of UAV flight. The magnetic launcher offers the significant advantage of minimizing friction between the starting cart and the launcher, resulting in the higher energy efficiency of the system. Research conducted so far has shown that the possibility of accelerating the aircraft on the longer runway offered by the launcher reduces aircraft overloads occurring during take-off. As a result, the launcher, aircraft, and onboard equipment are much safer. This paper presents the system’s mathematical modeling and numerical simulation results for micro-class UAV take-off and landing using the analyzed magnetic launcher. The computer program for analyzing system dynamics was implemented in the MATLAB environment. Simulation results were visualized graphically and as animations in Virtual Reality. The VR application was implemented in Unity and ran on VR goggles Oculus Quest2. The simulations carried out show that—in the absence of control—an important factor reducing the takeoff distance and affecting the aircraft load is the adoption of a non-zero takeoff thrust of the UAV. The initial pitch angle also has a significant impact on the takeoff process. With an increase in this parameter, the length of the takeoff distance decreases and the lift-off speed decreases, but too much pitch angle may result in the aircraft descending in the first moments of flight, which could lead to a collision with the launch rails.

This study focused on the marginal land availability for developing <em>Pistacia chinensis-</em>based bioenergy in China. The spatial distribution, quality and total amount of marginal land resources suitable for cultivating <em>Pistacia chinensis</em> were identified with multiple datasets (natural habitat, remote sensing-derived land use, meteorological and soil data) and geoinformatic techniques. The results indicate that the area of marginal land exploitable for <em>Pistacia chinensis</em> plantations in China is 19.90 million hectares, which may produce approximately 56.85 million tons of biodiesel each year. The spatial variation of both marginal land resources and biodiesel potential are also presented. The results can be useful for national and regional bio-energy planning.

It relates to how the implementation of sustainable strategic management has affected methane projects. In the study, a literature analysis was first conducted, establishing the existence and significance of the research gap. Then, a group of experts from JSW S.A., during moderated workshops, prepared a multidimensional model describing the structure of the implementation of sustainable strategic management. The model was constructed and verified using the AHP method. As a result of the study, it was found that the implementation of sustainable strategic management resulted in a change of the company’s strategic priorities. Significant professionalization of management in the course of these projects was also observed. The most important and beneficial element of the implementation was the adoption of strategic goals related to the production of their very own energy based on methane emitted by mines. Other noteworthy elements of the change concern the introduction of continuous business case assurance during projects and the standardization of the project phase model.

However, enormous coal consumption produces a large amount of carbon dioxide and an aggravated ecological problem. In this paper, the super efficiency slack-based measure and data envelopment analysis (SBM-DEA) model and Malmquist index were used to calculate the energy consumption and carbon emission efficiency of 11 prefecture-level cities in Shanxi in the period from 2000 to 2020. The results were as follows: (1) The primary form of energy consumption in Shanxi Province is the burning of coal, and the carbon emission efficiencies of the 11 prefecture-level cities are quite different. The technical efficiency, technological progress, and total factor productivity of Taiyuan and Shuozhou were found to be greater than 1 compared to other cities in Shanxi. (2) On the whole, although the carbon emission rate of Shanxi Province has slowed down, it still faces the problems of a large total emission base, high carbon emission intensity, and low efficiency of the unit carbon emission output. Industrial structure is the key factor restricting improvements in the efficiency of carbon emissions in Shanxi Province. (3) From the spatial and temporal evolution of the carbon emission efficiency in Shanxi Province, we can see that the carbon emission efficiency of the whole province gradually dispersed and improved from the central and northern regions to the southern regions during the period of 2000–2020. In order to achieve a low-carbon economy, Shanxi Province must optimize its industrial structure, accelerate research and development in low-carbon technologies, adjust the energy structure, and promote the construction of an energy supply system with clean low-carbon energy as the main source.

Thus, there is a strong incentive to enhance pitch control technology in order to counteract the negative effects of unidentified delays and non-minimum phase characteristics. To reduce the complexity of the parameter-tuning process and improve the performance of the system, in this paper, we propose a novel control method for wind turbine pitch angle with time delays. Specifically, the proposed control method is state-space PIDD2, which is based on internal model control (IMC) and the open-loop system step response. Then, considering the tracking, disturbance rejection and measurement noise, the proposed controller is verified through simulations. The simulation results demonstrate that the state-space PIDD2 (SS-PIDD2) can provide a trade-off between robustness, time domain performance and measurement noise attenuation and effectively improve pitch control performance in contrast to series PID and PI control methods.

This paper considers several scenarios for four countries’ electricity production from primary energy sources to estimate total CO2 release. Energy consumption of the vehicle per 100 km, emissions during manufacturing, battery production, and lifecycle of the vehicle are considered in the total amount evaluation of CO2 released. The results show that with current technologies for battery manufacturing, and a significant proportion of national grid electricity delivered by fossil fuels, BEV is the best choice to reduce carbon emissions for shorter driving ranges. In the case of electricity generation mainly by low-carbon sources, FCEV and BEV-FCEV hybrid vehicles end up with lower carbon dioxide emissions. In contrast, with electricity mainly generated from fossil fuels, electric vehicles do not reduce CO2 emissions compared to combustion cars.

To minimize that problem, which is particularly clear and dangerous in the period of a shortage of fossil fuels, the Polish authorities have decided to establish various institutions, organizational and regulatory solutions. Their role is to support the development of renewable energy sources and local energy communities. The latter are to focus on optimizing the production and consumption of energy in pursuit of energy self-sufficiency on a local scale. One such institution, set up in Poland over the last several years, is the energy cooperative, which is intended to increase the efficient use of the potential of renewable energy sources in rural and urban–rural areas. The authors of this article verify the assumptions, for instance, the number, composition or production and members’ consumption profiles, under which such a relatively new institution has the chance to develop. A novelty in this research paper is that the interests of the entities composing a given energy cooperative may additionally be secured by the use of surplus generation for crypto-coin mining, and thus the storage of energy in virtual currency. A dedicated mathematical model in mixed-integer programming technology was used, enriched with respect to previous research, making it possible for members of the cooperative to achieve energy independence while maximizing self-consumption and using their excess energy for processing cryptocurrency. This is in line with the global trend of “greening”; the processes of acquiring electronic money.

Here, energy prices are of particular importance. Energy is what offers a competitive edge to economies. Therefore, many energy sectors still remain under state control. However, the fuel market is free although highly concentrated. The primary objective of this study was to determine the impact of fuel price changes on inflation in Poland. The research was based on causality models and regression models including asymmetry correction. The flow path was analyzed of price impulses from the basic raw material (i.e., crude oil) through wholesale diesel prices to inflation. The study demonstrates that with each successive stage of raw material processing, price volatility proves to be weaker. However, the final effect is still significant: inflation is largely shaped by energy carriers and, here, specifically by fuel prices. Such results have serious implications for the state’s economic policy. On one hand, they point to the limitations of this policy and, on the other hand, they raise questions about the legitimacy of the reforms that free up energy markets.

The use of solar free energy is not neglected in the present energy crisis, with the intention to move toward green energies. However, an important problem arises concerning the limited amount of solar energy available on board UAVs. Until now, high-aerodynamic-efficiency configurations have been used. These configurations use high-aspect-ratio wings. However, high-aspect-ratio wings have some disadvantages regarding their excessive elasticity and weak bending resistance in the housing section. Additionally, the aircraft maneuverability is reduced. In this work, a study is proposed on a solar UAV configuration that sacrifices high aerodynamic efficiency for a higher surface area available for solar cells. In this manner, the amount of energy available on board the UAV is increased, and the UAV structure becomes more rigid and robust. The presented UAV fits better with more complex evolutions, is more maneuverable and the wingspan is much reduced. This UAV is more compact, can maneuver better in the take-off and landing phases, and the necessary storage space is considerably reduced. This paper highlights the performances that can be achieved using this kind of UAV and explores whether these performances are enough for some applications. Using an on-board energy balance, the possible performances of this new configuration is studied. As this is a preliminary study, the precision level is not very high, but it offers an image concerning the possibilities of this new configuration.

This is due to their high renewable energy potential combined with high plant efficiency and utilization rates. For the optimal integration and sector coupling of heating networks in holistic urban energy systems, open source energy system modeling tools are highly recommended. In this contribution, two open source approaches (the “Spreadsheet Energy System Model Generator”-integrated DHNx-Python module (DHNx/SESMG) and Thermos) are theoretically compared, and practically applied to a real-world energy system. Deviations within the results can be explained by incorrectly pre-defined parameters within Thermos and cannot be adjusted by the modeler. The simultaneity is underestimated in the case study by Thermos by more than 20%. This results in undersized heating plant capacities and a 50% higher number of buildings connected to the network. However, Thermos offers a higher end-user usability and over 100 times faster solving. DHNx/SESMG, in contrast, offers the possibility to adjust more model parameters individually and consider multiple energy sectors. This enables a holistic modeling of urban energy systems and the model-based optimization of multi-sectoral synergies.

As the take-off is an energy-demanding phase of the flight; therefore, abandoning the power supply of the UAV during this phase significantly affects increasing the potential range and duration of UAV flight. The magnetic launcher offers the significant advantage of minimizing friction between the starting cart and the launcher, resulting in the higher energy efficiency of the system. Research conducted so far has shown that the possibility of accelerating the aircraft on the longer runway offered by the launcher reduces aircraft overloads occurring during take-off. As a result, the launcher, aircraft, and onboard equipment are much safer. This paper presents the system’s mathematical modeling and numerical simulation results for micro-class UAV take-off and landing using the analyzed magnetic launcher. The computer program for analyzing system dynamics was implemented in the MATLAB environment. Simulation results were visualized graphically and as animations in Virtual Reality. The VR application was implemented in Unity and ran on VR goggles Oculus Quest2. The simulations carried out show that—in the absence of control—an important factor reducing the takeoff distance and affecting the aircraft load is the adoption of a non-zero takeoff thrust of the UAV. The initial pitch angle also has a significant impact on the takeoff process. With an increase in this parameter, the length of the takeoff distance decreases and the lift-off speed decreases, but too much pitch angle may result in the aircraft descending in the first moments of flight, which could lead to a collision with the launch rails.

This study focused on the marginal land availability for developing <em>Pistacia chinensis-</em>based bioenergy in China. The spatial distribution, quality and total amount of marginal land resources suitable for cultivating <em>Pistacia chinensis</em> were identified with multiple datasets (natural habitat, remote sensing-derived land use, meteorological and soil data) and geoinformatic techniques. The results indicate that the area of marginal land exploitable for <em>Pistacia chinensis</em> plantations in China is 19.90 million hectares, which may produce approximately 56.85 million tons of biodiesel each year. The spatial variation of both marginal land resources and biodiesel potential are also presented. The results can be useful for national and regional bio-energy planning.

It relates to how the implementation of sustainable strategic management has affected methane projects. In the study, a literature analysis was first conducted, establishing the existence and significance of the research gap. Then, a group of experts from JSW S.A., during moderated workshops, prepared a multidimensional model describing the structure of the implementation of sustainable strategic management. The model was constructed and verified using the AHP method. As a result of the study, it was found that the implementation of sustainable strategic management resulted in a change of the company’s strategic priorities. Significant professionalization of management in the course of these projects was also observed. The most important and beneficial element of the implementation was the adoption of strategic goals related to the production of their very own energy based on methane emitted by mines. Other noteworthy elements of the change concern the introduction of continuous business case assurance during projects and the standardization of the project phase model.

However, enormous coal consumption produces a large amount of carbon dioxide and an aggravated ecological problem. In this paper, the super efficiency slack-based measure and data envelopment analysis (SBM-DEA) model and Malmquist index were used to calculate the energy consumption and carbon emission efficiency of 11 prefecture-level cities in Shanxi in the period from 2000 to 2020. The results were as follows: (1) The primary form of energy consumption in Shanxi Province is the burning of coal, and the carbon emission efficiencies of the 11 prefecture-level cities are quite different. The technical efficiency, technological progress, and total factor productivity of Taiyuan and Shuozhou were found to be greater than 1 compared to other cities in Shanxi. (2) On the whole, although the carbon emission rate of Shanxi Province has slowed down, it still faces the problems of a large total emission base, high carbon emission intensity, and low efficiency of the unit carbon emission output. Industrial structure is the key factor restricting improvements in the efficiency of carbon emissions in Shanxi Province. (3) From the spatial and temporal evolution of the carbon emission efficiency in Shanxi Province, we can see that the carbon emission efficiency of the whole province gradually dispersed and improved from the central and northern regions to the southern regions during the period of 2000–2020. In order to achieve a low-carbon economy, Shanxi Province must optimize its industrial structure, accelerate research and development in low-carbon technologies, adjust the energy structure, and promote the construction of an energy supply system with clean low-carbon energy as the main source.
