Power output, greenhouse gas emissions and associated marginal changes on the British grid 2009-2014
This is one csv file with data arranged in columns with the following headers: Time,Total Coal Output (MW),Total CCGT Output (MW),Total System Output (MW),Total CO2 Emissions from Coal (t CO2eq),Total CO2 Emissions from CCGT (t CO2eq),Total System CO2 Emissions (t CO2eq),Change in Wind Power Output (GWh/h),Change in Total System Output (GWh/h),Change in System GHG Emissions (kt CO2eq/h) The data is created according to the methodology described in Thomson, R. C., G. P. Harrison and J. P. Chick, "Marginal greenhouse gas emissions displacement of wind power in Great Britain", Energy Policy, Volume 101, February 2017, Pages 201-210, ISSN 0301-4215, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.enpol.2016.11.012.
This dataset was produced for an analysis of the impacts of short-term marginal changes in demand and wind power on greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) on the grid in Great Britain. It was derived from data published in the BMRA data archive by Elexon. It includes: the total power output and GHG emissions from coal-fired and combined-cycle gas turbine power stations, which was calculated for each individual power station (or BM unit) and then aggregated for the whole of Great Britain; the resulting total system power output and GHG emissions from all types of generation; and the half-hourly marginal changes in total wind power output, system output and GHG emissions for the British grid.
