The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all sectors of the tourism industry, particularly air transportation. However, air transport remains an important contributor to economic growth globally. Thus, this study examines whether air transport (a proxy for tourism) stimulates economic growth to validate the air-transportation-led growth hypothesis (ALGH) in the Australian context. To conduct the study, we analyse the asymmetric long-run and short-run impacts of the air passengers carried (a proxy for tourism) on the gross domestic product (GDP) in Australia. We use the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) modelling approach on data for Australia from 1971 to 2019. We also examined the effects of selected control variables (i.e., energy consumption, financial development, socialisation, and urbanisation) on economic growth. In both the short and long run, we observed statistically significant asymmetric impacts of air transport on economic growth. The positive shocks in air transport propel the long-term growth of Australia’s economy. Additionally, according to the findings, negative shocks of air transport have a stronger detrimental impact on economic development than positive shocks.

Mitigating the supply chain’s vulnerability has great significance for the survival and development of enterprises. Optimizing the business environment and building a digital government will help improve the external environment for enterprise development. However, its impact on the vulnerability of the enterprise supply chain has yet to be studied. Taking the impact of COVID-19 as an example, this paper uses the survey data of nearly 40,000 enterprises of the National Federation of Industry and Commerce in 2020 and “10,000 private enterprises evaluating the business environment”, to conduct systematic empirical research and fill the research gap in this area. The study indicates that the business environment and digital government can significantly mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the supply chain. This conclusion is still valid after a series of robustness tests. Mechanism analysis demonstrates that the business environment and digital government can prompt the government to introduce effective mitigation measures promptly, better guarantee production factors and logistics, and thus improve the vulnerability of the enterprise supply chain. This study deepens our understanding of the economic outcome of the business environment and digital government and also sheds new light on supply chain management.

The continual spread of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), posing a severe threat to the health worldwide. The main protease (Mpro, alias 3CLpro) of SARS-CoV-2 is a crucial enzyme for the maturation of viral particles and is a very attractive target for designing drugs to treat COVID-19. Here, we propose a multiple conformation-based virtual screening strategy to discover inhibitors that can target SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. Based on this strategy, nine Mpro structures and a protein mimetics library with 8960 commercially available compounds were prepared to carry out ensemble docking for the first time. Five of the nine structures are apo forms presented in different conformations, whereas the other four structures are holo forms complexed with different ligands. The surface plasmon resonance assay revealed that 6 out of 49 compounds had the ability to bind to SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. The fluorescence resonance energy transfer experiment showed that the biochemical half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of the six compounds could hamper Mpro activities ranged from 0.69 ± 0.05 to 2.05 ± 0.92 μM. Evaluation of antiviral activity using the cell-based assay indicated that two compounds (Z1244904919 and Z1759961356) could strongly inhibit the cytopathic effect and reduce replication of the living virus in Vero E6 cells with the half-maximal effective concentrations (EC50) of 4.98 ± 1.83 and 8.52 ± 0.92 μM, respectively. The mechanism of the action for the two inhibitors were further elucidated at the molecular level by molecular dynamics simulation and subsequent binding free energy analysis. As a result, the discovered noncovalent reversible inhibitors with novel scaffolds are promising antiviral drug candidates, which may be used to develop the treatment of COVID-19.

In this paper, we utilize weekly data from 07 August 2015 to 26 March 2021 to document the dynamics and portfolio diversification from a fresh cryptocurrencies-renewable energy perspective. Our time-frequency domain spillovers results reveal that renewable energy stocks are the main spillover contributors in the connectedness system and the short-run spillovers dominate their long-run counterparts. Furthermore, investors can gain more profits through short-run transactions in our portfolio design and we can optimize portfolios by investing a large portion in cryptocurrencies. A fascinating fact is that the COVID-19 pandemic can reverse the effectiveness of our hedging strategy.

La tecnología de almacenamiento de energía es uno de los principales componentes de la integración de las energías renovables y la descarbonización de los sistemas energéticos mundiales. Se beneficia significativamente al abordar los servicios de energía auxiliares, la estabilidad de la calidad de la energía y la confiabilidad del suministro de energía. Sin embargo, los últimos años de la pandemia de COVID-19 han dado lugar a la crisis energética en diversos sectores industriales y tecnológicos. Para resolver estos desafíos, se realiza una encuesta integrada sobre el desarrollo de la tecnología de almacenamiento de energía, su clasificación, rendimiento y gestión segura. El desarrollo de la tecnología de almacenamiento de energía se ha clasificado en métodos electromecánicos, mecánicos, electromagnéticos, termodinámicos, químicos e híbridos. El estudio actual identifica tecnologías potenciales, marco operativo, análisis de comparación y características prácticas. Este estudio propuesto también proporciona información útil y práctica a los lectores, ingenieros y profesionales sobre los efectos económicos globales, los efectos ambientales globales, la resiliencia de la organización, los desafíos clave y las proyecciones de las tecnologías de almacenamiento de energía. También se propone un modelo de programación óptimo. A continuación, se describen las políticas de adaptación sostenible. Se ha recopilado una extensa lista de publicaciones hasta la fecha en la literatura abierta para retratar diversos desarrollos en esta área. Cependant, les dernières années de la pandémie de COVID-19 ont donné lieu à la crise énergétique dans divers secteurs industriels et technologiques. Une enquête intégrée sur le développement de la technologie de stockage d'énergie, sa classification, ses performances et sa gestion sûre est réalisée pour résoudre ces problèmes. Le développement de la technologie de stockage d'énergie a été classé en méthodes électromécaniques, mécaniques, électromagnétiques, thermodynamiques, chimiques et hybrides. La présente étude identifie les technologies potentielles, le cadre opérationnel, l'analyse comparative et les caractéristiques pratiques. Cette étude proposée fournit également des informations utiles et pratiques aux lecteurs, ingénieurs et praticiens sur les effets économiques mondiaux, les effets environnementaux mondiaux, la résilience des organisations, les principaux défis et les projections des technologies de stockage d'énergie. Un modèle d'ordonnancement optimal est également proposé. Les politiques d'adaptation durable sont ensuite décrites. Energy Storage Technology is one of the major components of renewable energy integration and decarbonization of world energy systems. It significantly benefits addressing ancillary power services, power quality stability, and power supply reliability. However, the recent years of the COVID-19 pandemic have given rise to the energy crisis in various industrial and technology sectors. An integrated survey of energy storage technology development, its classification, performance, and safe management is made to resolve these challenges. The development of energy storage technology has been classified into electromechanical, mechanical, electromagnetic, thermodynamics, chemical, and hybrid methods. The current study identifies potential technologies, operational framework, comparison analysis, and practical characteristics. This proposed study also provides useful and practical information to readers, engineers, and practitioners on the global economic effects, global environmental effects, organization resilience, key challenges, and projections of energy storage technologies. An optimal scheduling model is also proposed. Policies for sustainable adaptation are then described. The virus mainly spreads infection among people on a large scale through the air. People are gradually focusing on how to use HVAC system, so that it can play a more efficient and positive role in epidemic prevention and control. Consequently, we designed an intelligent purification and disinfection apparatus for air-conditioning units. The apparatus integrates rapid virus detection and high-efficiency disinfection functions. It uses a modular design and different operating modes for different levels of epidemic periods. This apparatus is not only suitable for daily life, but also can meet the prevention and control requirements during the epidemic period, which takes the economy, energy saving, and environmental protection into account.

With the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the international community is forced to face the global health crisis again. Even though, throughout the course of history, the human race has seldom succeeded in getting rid of infectious diseases and global health inequalities completely. Faced with this tragic situation and extreme inequality, some philosophers have put forward some exciting plans, and it is undoubtedly regrettable that Rawls, one of the most outstanding contemporary political philosophers and ethicists, has not addressed this issue in his The Law of Peoples. However, if Rawls wants its philosophical blueprint for the future world – the law of peoples as a “realistic utopia” to be feasible, he has to face the challenges of global health and make a reasonable response. Otherwise, the magnificent building of this “realistic utopia” will collapse. Therefore, the author tries to develop Rawls’ international justice theory by introducing the idea of the right to health into the law of peoples, so as to hopefully provide a feasible philosophical plan to solve the global health problems.

COVID-19 has changed the permeability of borders in transboundary environmental governance regimes. While borders have always been selectively permeable, the pandemic has reconfigured the nature of cross-border flows of people, natural resources, finances and technologies. This has altered the availability of spaces for enacting sustainability initiatives within and between countries. In Southeast Asia, national governments and businesses seeking to expedite economic recovery from the pandemic-induced recession have selectively re-opened borders by accelerating production and revitalizing agro-export growth. Widening regional inequities have also contributed to increased cross-border flows of illicit commodities, such as trafficked wildlife. At the same time, border restrictions under the exigencies of controlling the pandemic have led to a rolling back and scaling down of transboundary environmental agreements, regulations and programs, with important implications for environmental democracy, socio-ecological justice and sustainability. Drawing on evidence from Southeast Asia, the article assesses the policy challenges and opportunities posed by the shifting permeability of borders for organising and operationalising environmental activities at different scales of transboundary governance.

This study examines the association between environmental sustainability, governance factors and national culture with COVID-19 impact. We aim to draw implications for thinking and researching environmental accountability at a higher level than the organisation. We draw on the conceptual lens of deep ecology. Using a sample of 44 countries, we find that that countries with a higher level of corporate carbon emissions experienced a greater impact from COVID-19. Moreover, countries with higher accountability and government effectiveness are associated with a lower COVID-19 impact, implying that productive policy responses to the pandemic were employed in such settings. The study also finds that the positive association between carbon emissions and COVID-19 impact is less pronounced for countries with an individualism culture. This suggests that policy responses, such as social distancing, may have yielded better results in these cultural contexts. Furthermore, it is found that the positive impact of carbon emissions on COVID-19 impact is lower for countries having long-term orientation and environmental value orientation cultures.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all sectors of the tourism industry, particularly air transportation. However, air transport remains an important contributor to economic growth globally. Thus, this study examines whether air transport (a proxy for tourism) stimulates economic growth to validate the air-transportation-led growth hypothesis (ALGH) in the Australian context. To conduct the study, we analyse the asymmetric long-run and short-run impacts of the air passengers carried (a proxy for tourism) on the gross domestic product (GDP) in Australia. We use the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) modelling approach on data for Australia from 1971 to 2019. We also examined the effects of selected control variables (i.e., energy consumption, financial development, socialisation, and urbanisation) on economic growth. In both the short and long run, we observed statistically significant asymmetric impacts of air transport on economic growth. The positive shocks in air transport propel the long-term growth of Australia’s economy. Additionally, according to the findings, negative shocks of air transport have a stronger detrimental impact on economic development than positive shocks.

Mitigating the supply chain’s vulnerability has great significance for the survival and development of enterprises. Optimizing the business environment and building a digital government will help improve the external environment for enterprise development. However, its impact on the vulnerability of the enterprise supply chain has yet to be studied. Taking the impact of COVID-19 as an example, this paper uses the survey data of nearly 40,000 enterprises of the National Federation of Industry and Commerce in 2020 and “10,000 private enterprises evaluating the business environment”, to conduct systematic empirical research and fill the research gap in this area. The study indicates that the business environment and digital government can significantly mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the supply chain. This conclusion is still valid after a series of robustness tests. Mechanism analysis demonstrates that the business environment and digital government can prompt the government to introduce effective mitigation measures promptly, better guarantee production factors and logistics, and thus improve the vulnerability of the enterprise supply chain. This study deepens our understanding of the economic outcome of the business environment and digital government and also sheds new light on supply chain management.

The continual spread of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), posing a severe threat to the health worldwide. The main protease (Mpro, alias 3CLpro) of SARS-CoV-2 is a crucial enzyme for the maturation of viral particles and is a very attractive target for designing drugs to treat COVID-19. Here, we propose a multiple conformation-based virtual screening strategy to discover inhibitors that can target SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. Based on this strategy, nine Mpro structures and a protein mimetics library with 8960 commercially available compounds were prepared to carry out ensemble docking for the first time. Five of the nine structures are apo forms presented in different conformations, whereas the other four structures are holo forms complexed with different ligands. The surface plasmon resonance assay revealed that 6 out of 49 compounds had the ability to bind to SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. The fluorescence resonance energy transfer experiment showed that the biochemical half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of the six compounds could hamper Mpro activities ranged from 0.69 ± 0.05 to 2.05 ± 0.92 μM. Evaluation of antiviral activity using the cell-based assay indicated that two compounds (Z1244904919 and Z1759961356) could strongly inhibit the cytopathic effect and reduce replication of the living virus in Vero E6 cells with the half-maximal effective concentrations (EC50) of 4.98 ± 1.83 and 8.52 ± 0.92 μM, respectively. The mechanism of the action for the two inhibitors were further elucidated at the molecular level by molecular dynamics simulation and subsequent binding free energy analysis. As a result, the discovered noncovalent reversible inhibitors with novel scaffolds are promising antiviral drug candidates, which may be used to develop the treatment of COVID-19.

In this paper, we utilize weekly data from 07 August 2015 to 26 March 2021 to document the dynamics and portfolio diversification from a fresh cryptocurrencies-renewable energy perspective. Our time-frequency domain spillovers results reveal that renewable energy stocks are the main spillover contributors in the connectedness system and the short-run spillovers dominate their long-run counterparts. Furthermore, investors can gain more profits through short-run transactions in our portfolio design and we can optimize portfolios by investing a large portion in cryptocurrencies. A fascinating fact is that the COVID-19 pandemic can reverse the effectiveness of our hedging strategy.

La tecnología de almacenamiento de energía es uno de los principales componentes de la integración de las energías renovables y la descarbonización de los sistemas energéticos mundiales. Se beneficia significativamente al abordar los servicios de energía auxiliares, la estabilidad de la calidad de la energía y la confiabilidad del suministro de energía. Sin embargo, los últimos años de la pandemia de COVID-19 han dado lugar a la crisis energética en diversos sectores industriales y tecnológicos. Para resolver estos desafíos, se realiza una encuesta integrada sobre el desarrollo de la tecnología de almacenamiento de energía, su clasificación, rendimiento y gestión segura. El desarrollo de la tecnología de almacenamiento de energía se ha clasificado en métodos electromecánicos, mecánicos, electromagnéticos, termodinámicos, químicos e híbridos. El estudio actual identifica tecnologías potenciales, marco operativo, análisis de comparación y características prácticas. Este estudio propuesto también proporciona información útil y práctica a los lectores, ingenieros y profesionales sobre los efectos económicos globales, los efectos ambientales globales, la resiliencia de la organización, los desafíos clave y las proyecciones de las tecnologías de almacenamiento de energía. También se propone un modelo de programación óptimo. A continuación, se describen las políticas de adaptación sostenible. Se ha recopilado una extensa lista de publicaciones hasta la fecha en la literatura abierta para retratar diversos desarrollos en esta área. La technologie de stockage de l'énergie est l'un des principaux composants de l'intégration des énergies renouvelables et de la décarbonisation des systèmes énergétiques mondiaux. Il bénéficie considérablement des services d'alimentation auxiliaires, de la stabilité de la qualité de l'énergie et de la fiabilité de l'alimentation électrique. Cependant, les dernières années de la pandémie de COVID-19 ont donné lieu à la crise énergétique dans divers secteurs industriels et technologiques. Une enquête intégrée sur le développement de la technologie de stockage d'énergie, sa classification, ses performances et sa gestion sûre est réalisée pour résoudre ces problèmes. Energy Storage Technology is one of the major components of renewable energy integration and decarbonization of world energy systems. It significantly benefits addressing ancillary power services, power quality stability, and power supply reliability. However, the recent years of the COVID-19 pandemic have given rise to the energy crisis in various industrial and technology sectors. An integrated survey of energy storage technology development, its classification, performance, and safe management is made to resolve these challenges. The development of energy storage technology has been classified into electromechanical, mechanical, electromagnetic, thermodynamics, chemical, and hybrid methods. The current study identifies potential technologies, operational framework, comparison analysis, and practical characteristics. This proposed study also provides useful and practical information to readers, engineers, and practitioners on the global economic effects, global environmental effects, organization resilience, key challenges, and projections of energy storage technologies. An optimal scheduling model is also proposed. Policies for sustainable adaptation are then described. La tecnología de almacenamiento de energía es uno de los principales componentes de la integración de las energías renovables y la descarbonización de los sistemas energéticos mundiales. Se beneficia significativamente al abordar los servicios de energía auxiliares, la estabilidad de la calidad de la energía y la confiabilidad del suministro de energía. Sin embargo, los últimos años de la pandemia de COVID-19 han dado lugar a la crisis energética en diversos sectores industriales y tecnológicos. Para resolver estos desafíos, se realiza una encuesta integrada sobre el desarrollo de la tecnología de almacenamiento de energía, su clasificación, rendimiento y gestión segura. El desarrollo de la tecnología de almacenamiento de energía se ha clasificado en métodos electromecánicos, mecánicos, electromagnéticos, termodinámicos, químicos e híbridos. El estudio actual identifica tecnologías potenciales, marco operativo, análisis de comparación y características prácticas. Este estudio propuesto también proporciona información útil y práctica a los lectores, ingenieros y profesionales sobre los efectos económicos globales, los efectos ambientales globales, la resiliencia de la organización, los desafíos clave y las proyecciones de las tecnologías de almacenamiento de energía. También se propone un modelo de programación óptimo. A continuación, se describen las políticas de adaptación sostenible. Se ha recopilado una extensa lista de publicaciones hasta la fecha en la literatura abierta para retratar diversos desarrollos en esta área. Il bénéficie considérablement des services d'alimentation auxiliaires, de la stabilité de la qualité de l'énergie et de la fiabilité de l'alimentation électrique. Cependant, les dernières années de la pandémie de COVID-19 ont donné lieu à la crise énergétique dans divers secteurs industriels et technologiques. Une enquête intégrée sur le développement de la technologie de stockage d'énergie, sa classification, ses performances et sa gestion sûre est réalisée pour résoudre ces problèmes. Le développement de la technologie de stockage d'énergie a été classé en méthodes électromécaniques, mécaniques, électromagnétiques, thermodynamiques, chimiques et hybrides. La présente étude identifie les technologies potentielles, le cadre opérationnel, l'analyse comparative et les caractéristiques pratiques. Cette étude proposée fournit également des informations utiles et pratiques aux lecteurs, ingénieurs et praticiens sur les effets économiques mondiaux, les effets environnementaux mondiaux, la résilience des organisations, les principaux défis et les projections des technologies de stockage d'énergie. The paper analyzed the new development of energy security in the post COVID-19 era, and stated the new challenges in terms of the geopolitical risks, increasing energy market volatility, and energy security governance for the countries along the “Belt and Road”. Finally, the paper put forward countermeasures and suggestions to improve the energy security level of the countries along the “Belt and Road”.

Consequently, we designed an intelligent purification and disinfection apparatus for air-conditioning units. The apparatus integrates rapid virus detection and high-efficiency disinfection functions. It uses a modular design and different operating modes for different levels of epidemic periods. This apparatus is not only suitable for daily life, but also can meet the prevention and control requirements during the epidemic period, which takes the economy, energy saving, and environmental protection into account.

With the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the international community is forced to face the global health crisis again. Even though, throughout the course of history, the human race has seldom succeeded in getting rid of infectious diseases and global health inequalities completely. Faced with this tragic situation and extreme inequality, some philosophers have put forward some exciting plans, and it is undoubtedly regrettable that Rawls, one of the most outstanding contemporary political philosophers and ethicists, has not addressed this issue in his The Law of Peoples. However, if Rawls wants its philosophical blueprint for the future world – the law of peoples as a “realistic utopia” to be feasible, he has to face the challenges of global health and make a reasonable response. Otherwise, the magnificent building of this “realistic utopia” will collapse. Therefore, the author tries to develop Rawls’ international justice theory by introducing the idea of the right to health into the law of peoples, so as to hopefully provide a feasible philosophical plan to solve the global health problems.

However, if Rawls wants its philosophical blueprint for the future world – the law of peoples as a “realistic utopia” to be feasible, he has to face the challenges of global health and make a reasonable response. Otherwise, the magnificent building of this “realistic utopia” will collapse. Therefore, the author tries to develop Rawls’ international justice theory by introducing the idea of the right to health into the law of peoples, so as to hopefully provide a feasible philosophical plan to solve the global health problems.

COVID-19 has changed the permeability of borders in transboundary environmental governance regimes. While borders have always been selectively permeable, the pandemic has reconfigured the nature of cross-border flows of people, natural resources, finances and technologies. This has altered the availability of spaces for enacting sustainability initiatives within and between countries. In Southeast Asia, national governments and businesses seeking to expedite economic recovery from the pandemic-induced recession have selectively re-opened borders by accelerating production and revitalizing agro-export growth. Widening regional inequities have also contributed to increased cross-border flows of illicit commodities, such as trafficked wildlife. At the same time, border restrictions under the exigencies of controlling the pandemic have led to a rolling back and scaling down of transboundary environmental agreements, regulations and programs, with important implications for environmental democracy, socio-ecological justice and sustainability. Drawing on evidence from Southeast Asia, the article assesses the policy challenges and opportunities posed by the shifting permeability of borders for organising and operationalising environmental activities at different scales of transboundary governance.

This study examines the association between environmental sustainability, governance factors and national culture with COVID-19 impact. We aim to draw implications for thinking and researching environmental accountability at a higher level than the organisation. We draw on the conceptual lens of deep ecology. Using a sample of 44 countries, we find that that countries with a higher level of corporate carbon emissions experienced a greater impact from COVID-19. Moreover, countries with higher accountability and government effectiveness are associated with a lower COVID-19 impact, implying that productive policy responses to the pandemic were employed in such settings. The study also finds that the positive association between carbon emissions and COVID-19 impact is less pronounced for countries with an individualism culture. This suggests that policy responses, such as social distancing, may have yielded better results in these cultural contexts. Furthermore, it is found that the positive impact of carbon emissions on COVID-19 impact is lower for countries having long-term orientation and environmental value orientation cultures.
