description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Bachelor thesis 2019 BrazilPublisher:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria Authors: Oliveira, Amanda de Mello;Environmental degradation due to unbridled exploitation of natural resources has resulted in the need for sustainable practices by construction companies to minimize the impacts of their activities. Considering this context, we sought to evaluate the sustainability pattern in civil con-struction in the city of Santa Maria - RS, and sought to analyze the sustainable strategies that have been adopted by construction companies and the knowledge and adoption of sustainable certifications present in the city. Brazilian market. In view of this, the city builders were asked about sustainable practices applied by them. The present work has great relevance for both academics and the construction industry, due to the high competitiveness and search for inno-vations in the market. Considering this problem, a qualitative exploratory study was conducted, structured through the application of a questionnaire to four major construction companies in the city. The results show that sustainable actions have gradually presented a movement towards sustainable development. Nevertheless, the profile of sustainable construction in the unit of analysis is still far from becoming a reality. Regarding the adoption of environmental certifica-tions by the surveyed construction companies, they are still in reverse when compared to a global context. Believing that the future depends on the rational use of natural resources, the construction process must be reformulated through the search for technological innovations aimed at environmental preservation.

Values of dissolved oxygen and water temperature varied from 2.11 to 4.02mgL-1 and 29.17 to 30.93°C for the stands of E. crassipes, and from 1.29 to 2.59mgL-1 and 28.32 and 29.95°C for E. azurea. The highest number of fish species (24), individuals (134), biomass of roots (1572gm-2) belonged to E. azurea. Significantly differences among the stands were obtained to emerged portions (p<0.018; F=8.891) and to the number of individuals that do not support hypoxia (p<0.035; F=6.383). Diversity, evenness and similarity indexes show that fish assemblages associated to banks of E. azurea and E. crassipes have different structure and select the Eichhornia spp stand.

In order to assess building’s environmental conditions and improve their environmental performance, international certification systems emerged and some of them have been adapted to Brazil. This study aims to analyze the performance of an specific building in relation to 14 categories set by the Technical Reference AQUA - School Buildings & Offices, 2007, and come up with improvements in its performance. AQUA is a certification system adapted to Brazil based on the system HQE (Haute Qualite Environmentale), which has been used in Europe to evaluate sustainability criteria in buildings since 2002. It is considered the most adapted to Brazilian situation. The research method focus on a case study - the new building in UFJF Engineering College. The results show that concern about the environmental performance can still be improved. Search for more sustainable measures, according to the AQUA, starting at the planning and design phases was incipient in the new building’s dynamics. Guidelines were recomended and may contribute to increase the building’s performance. In addition, measures were suggested and could be adopted for this building. The information gathered and its recommendations suggest the increasing of environmental performance for the evaluated building, through the application of AQUA Questionnaire.
