Sustainability is increasingly becoming an object of research. However, questions of whether sustainability-related activities are actually sustainable have rarely been examined: Are those activities permanently implemented into corporate practice and do they actually achieve their purposes? In this paper, the focus is on the question whether and how co-determination and especially plant-level agreements can be interpreted as a template for sustainable sustainability. For this purpose, plant-level agreements between works councils and management on occupational health and safety as one aspect of the social dimension of sustainability are analysed. It is argued that plant-level agreements can reflect central prerequisites for sustainable sustainability activities if they reflect a process chain of introducing, implementing, institutionalizing and continuing an activity. A plant-level agreement can further be seen as an important source of power since it is a result of balancing the different logics of works councils and management. Further research in the project will focus on case studies in companies that have been selected because of their plant-level agreements. AIS-Studien

AIS-Studien
