description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article 2011Publisher:Elsevier BV Authors: Fuchen Wang; Zhijie Zhou; Jia Jia; Xiuli Zhan;Abstract The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of blending methods on the co-gasification of petroleum coke and lignite with CO 2 using a thermogravimetric system at 0.1 MPa. The weight loss curves, XRD analysis, SEM images, BET specific surface area, were investigated. It was observed that petroleum coke shows a low reactivity because of the graphitic carbon structure, low catalyst content and small specific surface area. Blending with lignite can get a high reactivity. The co-gasification reactivity was significantly influenced by blending methods. Wet grinding is much effective than dry grinding. Long grinding time made lignite show greater BET specific area. And the sample in long grinding time has more association chances between petroleum coke and AAEM species. The co-gasification reactivity increases linearly with a rise of BET specific area.

The effect of the combined application of nano-hydroxyapatite (NHAP) or nano-carbon black (NCB) on the phytoextraction of Pb by ryegrass was investigated as an enhanced remediation technique for soils by field-scale experiment. After the addition of 0.2% NHAP or NCB to the soil, temporal variation of the uptake of Pb in aboveground parts and roots were observed. Ryegrass shoot concentrations of Pb were lower with nano-materials application than without nano-materials for the first month. However, the shoot concentrations of Pb were significantly increased with nano-materials application, in particular NHAP groups. The ryegrass root concentrations of Pb were lower with nano-materials application for the first month. These results indicated that nano-materials had significant effects on stabilization of lead, especially at the beginning of the experiment. Along with the experimental proceeding, phytotoxicity was alleviated after the incorporation of nano-materials. The ryegrass biomass was significantly higher with nano-materials application. Consequently, the Pb phytoextraction potential of ryegrass significantly increased with nano-materials application compared to the gounps without nano-materials application. The total removal rates of soil Pb were higher after combined application of NHAP than NCB. NHAP is more suitable than NCB for in-situ remediation of Pb-contaminated soils. The ryegrass translocation factor exhibited a marked increase with time. It was thought that the major role of NHP and NBA might be to alleviate the Pb phytotoxicity and increase biomass of plants.

The study also covered the selection and testing of various types of adhesive materials and identified Polyvinyl acetate (PVA) material as a suitable bonding material. For the purpose of comparison pure hexadecane and composite aluminium/hexadecane samples were developed and tested. The test results revealed faster thermal response by the aluminium/hexadecane sample regarding the rate of heat flux and also achieved about 10% and 15% heat transfer enhancements during the charging and discharging periods respectively. Its measured effective thermal conductivity also increased remarkably to 1.25 W/mK as compared with 0.15 W/mK for pure hexadecane. However there was about 5% less total cumulative thermal energy discharged at the end of the test which indicates that its effective thermal capacity was reduced by the presence of the aluminium particles. The study has shown that some of the scientific and technical barriers associated with the development of laminated composite PCM drywall systems can be overcome but further investigations of effects of adhesive materials are needed.

The application of egg yolk as the carbon source is a new and environmental-friendly approach for biomass recycling. The reversible capacity of half cells made of PNCCs is as high as ~770 mA h g−1 at a current density of 0.5 A g−1 with considerable rate capacity and cycling stability. PNCCs show a capsule-like structure, which provide extra edges and active sites for lithium intercalation. The heteroatom doping also introduce defects and disorder, which increases the electrochemical activity and creates more active sites for lithium insertion.

Ni3Mo3C was prepared by a modified organic colloid method and explored as anode catalyst for high-performance microbial fuel cell (MFC) based on Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae). The prepared sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET). The activity of the sample as anode catalyst for MFC based on K. pneumoniae was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and polarization curve measurement. The results show that the adding of nickel in Mo2C increases the BET surface area of Mo2C and improves the electrocatalytic activity of Mo2C towards the oxidation of microbial fermentation products. The power density of MFC with 3 mg cm(-2) Ni3Mo3C anode is far higher than that of the MFC with carbon felt as anode without any catalyst, which is 19 % higher than that of Mo2C anode and produced 62 % as much as that of Pt anode, indicating that Ni3Mo3C is comparative to noble metal platinum as anode electrocatalyst for MFCs by increasing the loading.

The efficiency of VMJ cell reached to 19.19% under 2480 suns has been reported. Numerical calculations show that the efficiency can reach close to 30% after optimization. In this work, the performance of the silicon VMJ cell with front surface diffusion working under 1 sun and 1000 suns was calculated numerically using a TCAD software. The front surface diffusion can reduce the requirement of high quality front surface passivation, but increases the series resistance. The effect of the N-type emitter dopant profile, P+-type back surface field dopant profile, width, thickness, bulk doping concentration and lifetime of the sub-cell on the performance of the VMJ cell with front surface diffusion was calculated and analyzed. The efficiency reached to 30.56% under 1000 suns after optimization.

The proposed PCMP can formulate half-hourly charging power threshold plans for LCMCs based on a pre-centralized voltage regulation algorithm (PVRA) to prevent concerned nodes from under-voltage. Two sub-strategies, i.e., charging management sub-strategy (CMS) and cooperative control sub-strategy (CCS), are integrated in the LCMS, which can aggregate EVs charging at different FCSs to provide the voltage support service for the concerned node, so that the under-voltage problem of these concerned nodes can be alleviated. The load forecasting error, load uncertainty, and the need of the plug-and-play are considered as well. Finally, an IEEE 69-bus test system is used for simulation verification. Simulation results verify that the HCMS can be used to solve the nodal under-voltage problem caused by centralized high-power charging of EVs.
