- This essay explores the state of the art of the environmental relevance of the Colombian university from a perspective that converges on social participation. The analysis was based on a statement of the epistemological, theoretical and conceptual relationships of the actors of the Colombian educational process, to exercise a critical stance in the construction of environmental knowledge and commitments of the universities. In recent years, environmental education at the initiative of ASCUN has taken on relevance and interest, showing growth in training programs, research and social projection in the matter, in addition to contributions to the fulfillment of the SDG of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, however, it is not keeping pace with global demands. The biggest challenge it faces is to create a model with an interdisciplinary approach capable of generating changes in the community, so that sustainability is a constant in the daily life of society.
