Onshore and offshore wind power plants comprising wind turbines equipped with power converters are increasing in number worldwide. Harmonic emissions in power converters distort currents and voltages, leading to power quality problems. Low order resonances in the collector grid can increase the impact of wind turbine emissions. These resonances may also produce electrical instabilities in poorly damped wind power plants. The paper performs frequency scan with Matlab/Simulink simulations and compares low order frequencies of parallel resonances in onshore and offshore wind power plants. It also investigates the influence of wind power plant variables on resonance. Finally, simplified equivalent circuits of wind power plants are proposed to study low order parallel resonances.

Phase change materials (PCM) are used in many industrial and residential applications for their advantageous characteristic of high capacity of latent thermal storage by means of an isothermal process. In this context, it is very useful to have predictive mathematical models for the analysis of the thermal performance and for the thermal design of these layers. In this work, an experimental validation of an analytical model that resolves the steady periodic heat transfer problem in a finite layer of PCM is presented. The experimental investigation was conducted employing a PCM with thermophysical and thermochemical behavior very close to those hypothesized in the formulation of the analytical model. For the evaluation of the thermophysical properties of the PCM sample used, an experimental procedure created by the authors was employed. In all tests realized in a sinusoidal and non-sinusoidal periodic regime, the comparison between the measured and calculated trends of the temperature at different sample heights and of the surface heat fluxes show an excellent agreement. Moreover, also having verified the analytical total stored energy, the analytical model constitutes a valid instrument for the evaluation of the latent and sensible contribution and the trend in time of the position of the bi-phase interface. Flexible fibre supercapacitors were fabricated by wet-spinning from carbon nanotube/carbon black dispersions, followed by straightforward surface treatments to sequentially deposit MnO2 and PEDOT:PSS to make ternary composite fibres. Dip coating the fibres after the initial wet-spinning coagulation creates a simple solutionbased continuous process to produce fibre-based energy storage. Well-controlled depositions were achieved and have been optimised at each stage to yield the highest specific capacitance. A single ternary composite fibre exhibited a specific capacitance of 351 F g-1. Two ternary composite fibre electrodes were assembled together in a parallel solid-state device, with polyvinyl alcohol/H3PO4 gel used as both an electrolyte and a separator. The assembled flexible device exhibited a high specific capacitance of 51.3 F g-1 with excellent both chargedischarge cycling (84.2% capacitance retention after 1000 cycles) and deformation cycling stability (82.1% capacitance retention after 1000 bending cycles). The goal of this project is to improve the efficiency and durability of the current solid oxide electrolyser cells (SOEC). SOEC technology allows energy storage produced by renewable sources in the form of hydrogen by water electrolysis. The same cell can operate in reverse mode producing energy that is as a fuel cell (SOFC). Particularly, in this project symmetric cells will be tested. Symmetric cells possess electrodes (cathode and anode) made with the same material. In this way, changing cyclically the activity of the electrode (from cathode to anode and vice versa, under SOEC operation) and changing cyclically the operation mode of the cell (SOFC/SOEC) it is expected to reverse partially microstructural degradation allowing a greater durability. Task 1: Fabrication and characterization of LSCM (La0.75Sr0.25Cr0.5Mn0.5O3) electrodes. LSCM is commercially available as a powder. Task 2: Initial electrochemical characterization of LSCM symmetric cells. According to the results, optimization of the cells. Task 3: Study of the durability of the symmetric cell by electrochemical and microstructural characterization (post-mortem microscopy). Study of the mechanisms that rule the effic

This paper presents a comprehensive review of all correlations and experimental studies available in the literature to determine the heat transfer coefficient of supercritical CO2 flowing in heat exchangers. The different applications in which it is used are also reviewed and discussed. The correlations obtained from extensive experimental measurements are presented for different geometries (horizontal, vertical and inclined tubes, closed-loop circular pipes, and mini-channels) and dimensions. The review shows that there is a lack of a unique universal correlation for each geometry, suggesting the need for more work in this area. The work partially funded by the Spanish government (ENE2015-64117-C5-1-R (MINECO/FEDER) and ENE2015-64117-C5-3-R (MINECO/FEDER)). The authors would like to thank the Catalan Government for the quality accreditation given to their research group (2014 SGR 123). This project has received funding from the European Commission Seventh Framework Programme (FP/2007-2013) under Grant agreement N°PIRSES-GA-2013-610692 (INNOSTORAGE) and from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 657466 (INPATH-TES), and the funds received by the Royal Society of New Zealand. Alvaro de Gracia would like to thank Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad de España for Grant Juan de la Cierva, FJCI-2014-19940.

For this purpose, we used wind data recorded in the Llobregat Delta (NE of the Iberian Peninsula) from 1993 to 2010 and turbine power curves obtained from QBlade, FAST and AeroDyn freeware tools, and from the manufacturer. The HP-600W turbine, with hub-height 8 m, would deliver 126 kWh in a year (53 kWh during the sea breeze period, i.e., March 1 to September 30, 10 to 19h LT), with average power of 14 W (27 W). The results for the entire year agree with data measured in situ in 2015, but it is not the case for the sea breeze period. Therefore, more research is necessary to validate completely the proposed approach, and to confirm the real potential of the sea breeze for micro-generation in a peri-urban coastal area like the one under study, where large wind farms are not feasible. For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Conference object , Part of book or chapter of book 2009 SpainAuthors: Rodríguez-Abalde, Ángela; Fernández García, Belén; Flotats Ripoll, Xavier; The anaerobic bioavailability of two types of solid slaughterhouse waste (poultry and pig wastes) was studied after the application of thermal pretreatment. Both wastes were characterized by different proportions between fats, proteins and carbohydrates. The thermal pretreatments selected (70ºC for 60 min, and 133ºC and 3 bars for 20 min) were included in the European regulations 1774/2002 & 92/2005 for higienization purposes. These pretreatments had a remarkable effect on the solubilization of organic matter and on protein hydrolysis. No negative effects in methane or biogas yields were found in both pretreated wastes, but the bioavailibity of organic matter after the pretreatment depended on the composition of each waste, basically the presence of carbohydrates which could react with protein hydrolysis products (amino acids) giving slowly or not anaerobically biodegradable products (Maillard compounds).

System codes along with necessary nodalizations are valuable tools for thermal hydraulic safety analysis. In order to assess the safety of a particular power plant, in addition to the validation and veri cation of the code, the nodalization of the system needs to be quali ed. Since most existing experimental data come from tests performed on scaled-down facilities, any quali cation process must therefore address scale considerations. Along these lines, the Group of Thermal Hydraulic Studies at Technical University of Catalonia (GET) developed SCUP, a scaling-up methodology for qualifying full-scale nodalizations through a systematic procedure based on the extrapolation of post-test simulations of Integral Test Facilities (ITF) experiments.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Conference object 2016 SpainAuthors: Rojas Gregorio, José Ignacio; Cabrera Agudo, Barbara; Mazón Bueso, Jordi; This work investigates the potential of the sea breeze for wind energy generation with small wind turbines.
