Then a Strengths Weakness Opportunity and Treads (SWOT) framework is defined with the aim of verifying the suitability of an installed BMS system to incorporate Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD) tools

In particular, the study focused on companies’ CSR activities in energy facility development (geothermal energy) to carry out a questionnaire survey among around 1500 consumers located in BRICS capital cities – i.e. Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa. By adopting the rologit model, the study highlighted that CSR activities considering the impact of companies’ operations on local communities had the highest relative importance for consumers. Companies can also gain strategic advantages when performing CSR activities that avoid impacts on the environment and ensure reliable communications. This study contributes to the literature on CSR-consumer binomial by taking the perspective of consumers in evaluating different areas of responsibility of CSR and related activities.

One of the most relevant themes in the application of the Smart City paradigm is the city/energy relationship and Italian cities are fielding several actions to effectively cope with the energy issues. Nevertheless, actions and projects are often uncritically promoted as ‘smart’, but actually lack innovative contents and methods. Therefore, the aim of this research, of which we present the first findings, is the drafting of a survey, tested through field analysis, of the experimentations of Italian metropolitan areas on the Smart City topic. The in-depth analysis of two case studies, Genoa and Naples, allowed us to compare the actual state of the two cities. We have that they have undertaken a common path in the implementation of strategies to try to transform themselves into Smart Cities, focusing especially on the energy aspects. Tema. This leads to new monitoring and data needs. To fulfil these data needs, it is crucial to explore the opportunities and limitations of new technologies. This paper analyses the information flows within the agricultural sector and its potential to contribute to future information needs. Farmers act within a network of commercial and governmental organisations. The information exchange with these organisations could increasingly occur through digital means, but in reality, there is still a lot of data transfer on paper or in PDF format. This implies information loss. Digital information flows provide a wealth of information for policy evaluation and monitoring and have the potential to reduce transaction costs. Combining data from different sources (open data like earth observation data, data from on-farm sensor networks, accountancy data like invoices and data from food chain platforms) concerning a single farm is an even bigger challenge than the transfer from paper to digital. Based on these observations a list of requirements for a future solution for information transfer is defined. Based on these requirements, this paper presents the design of a System for Information Transfer to Reduce Administrative burdens (SITRA) to combine data from different sources and give farmers control who can access these data. SITRA will address farmers��� needs to reduce the growing administrative burden placed on them by governments and the food chain sustainability and food safety schemes, especially if data would be stored in a digital farm locker and a farmer could voluntary give his consent through an authorisation mechanism to share specific data with his business partners, paying agency, statistical organisation and Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN, an EU monitoring system for the Common Agricultural Policy). A platform that provides such data lockers could also provide benchmark facilities and a tool for common (open source) maintenance of coding systems. The paper proposes some follow-up activities to test this design. As a pilot, organic farmers that participate in the Dutch Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN) will be recruited to co-develop and test the design principles of the system. Given trust issues around data management, the design of the governance and business model of the system are key issues in the follow-up. This group is chosen as organic certification and FADN are the most data-intensive monitoring and evaluation tools in the CAP. The Farm to Fork communication proposes to enlarge the organic sector to 25% of the agricultural area. A new organic control regulation, based on a risk assessment approach is about to be implemented. The Farm to Fork communication also proposes to link the FADN much more with the Farm Advisory System and to extend it to a Farm Sustainability Data Network. To this purpose, the paper refers to the current situation of the national legislative and institutional framework in the field of the auctioning of ETS allowances and how it is linked and react to the EU policy/institutions. I depict the actors involved at EU and national level in the development and implementation of auctioning, but also how this process work in practice and the way auctions are conducted, the products, the participants, the EEX - EU common platform, auctioning volumes and their corresponding revenues at EU and national level and their use . The paper is descriptive, namely Article 10 of Directive 2009/29/EC and the revised Auctioning Regulation, to provide background for more analytically oriented articles, as well as to provide a presentation for readers who wish to learn about or be updated on the progress of the auctioning in EU ETS, especially at national level.

This first concern relates to the optimal use of ever-scarcer natural resources. Hence, supply chains need to be assessed and re-designed to accommodate this trend and take in to account the triple bottom line of environmental, economic and social measures. The second concern stems from the globalisation of supply chains which increases complexity and vulnerability to major disruptions. To survive, organisations within supply chains must be resilient in the face of such disruptions. This paper’s study addresses these two concerns, i.e. sustainability and resilience, by using computer simulations to explore the effects of disruptions on the sustainability performance of a supply chain.

This document is a synthesis of a longer background report under preparation by the Nature- Based Economy Working Group of Task Force III of the European Commission. The recommendations of this document will be debated at a high level policy dialogue at the end of June 20211 following which they will be shared as part of an open consultation process running until mid September 2021. The outcome of this process will form the basis for an EC Expert Publication on the Nature-based Economy to be launched at the European Business Summit in November 2021. The recommendations of this White Paper provide a basis for dialogue with policy makers, at all levels of government and across all fields of policy implementation, and with wider stakeholders in business, society and the innovation ecosystem on the changes needed to shift towards a Nature-based Economy. It particularly aims at stimulating valuable cross-sectoral policy discussions between policy makers responsible for climate change and biodiversity policy and those responsible for sustainable economic growth policies within the context of rapidly depleting stocks of natural capital. To assess the economic sustainability of the agro-energetic chain, the gross value added (GVA) is calculated. Moreover, the GHG emissions of the agro-energetic pruning supply chain due to both the pruning collection at the field level, and their combustion for energy production at the power plant, are calculated. Moreover, the ecoefficiency ratio was calculated to measure the value added per 1Mg of GHG emitted into the atmosphere. The findings show the whole agro-energetic chain, namely the power plant and the collection company have a good eco-efficiency ratio. In fact, the power plant’s ecoefficiency ratio (2.64€ per 1Mg of GHG) is slightly lower than harvest firm one (2.91€ per 1Mg of GHG). The findings could be useful to develop new business models based on the circular economy concept. In fact, the business model proposed could push entrepreneurs towards new income opportunities, at the same time, helping local farms and reducing the environmental impacts. In particular, the study focused on companies’ CSR activities in energy facility development (geothermal energy) to carry out a questionnaire survey among around 1500 consumers located in BRICS capital cities – i.e. Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa. By adopting the rologit model, the study highlighted that CSR activities considering the impact of companies’ operations on local communities had the highest relative importance for consumers. Companies can also gain strategic advantages when performing CSR activities that avoid impacts on the environment and ensure reliable communications. This study contributes to the literature on CSR-consumer binomial by taking the perspective of consumers in evaluating different areas of responsibility of CSR and related activities.

Therefore, the aim of this research, of which we present the first findings, is the drafting of a survey, tested through field analysis, of the experimentations of Italian metropolitan areas on the Smart City topic. The in-depth analysis of two case studies, Genoa and Naples, allowed us to compare the actual state of the two cities. This leads to new monitoring and data needs. To fulfil these data needs, it is crucial to explore the opportunities and limitations of new technologies. This paper analyses the information flows within the agricultural sector and its potential to contribute to future information needs. Farmers act within a network of commercial and governmental organisations. The information exchange with these organisations could increasingly occur through digital means, but in reality, there is still a lot of data transfer on paper or in PDF format. This implies information loss. Digital information flows provide a wealth of information for policy evaluation and monitoring and have the potential to reduce transaction costs. Combining data from different sources (open data like earth observation data, data from on-farm sensor networks, accountancy data like invoices and data from food chain platforms) concerning a single farm is an even bigger challenge than the transfer from paper to digital. Based on these observations a list of requirements for a future solution for information transfer is defined. Based on these requirements, this paper presents the design of a System for Information Transfer to Reduce Administrative burdens (SITRA) to combine data from different sources and give farmers control who can access these data. SITRA will address farmers��� needs to reduce the growing administrative burden placed on them by governments and the food chain sustainability and food safety schemes, especially if data would be stored in a digital farm locker and a farmer could voluntary give his consent through an authorisation mechanism to share specific data with his business partners, paying agency, statistical organisation and Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN, an EU monitoring system for the Common Agricultural Policy). A platform that provides such data lockers could also provide benchmark facilities and a tool for common (open source) maintenance of coding systems. The paper proposes some follow-up activities to test this design. As a pilot, organic farmers that participate in the Dutch Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN) will be recruited to co-develop and test the design principles of the system. Given trust issues around data management, the design of the governance and business model of the system are key issues in the follow-up. This group is chosen as organic certification and FADN are the most data-intensive monitoring and evaluation tools in the CAP. The Farm to Fork communication proposes to enlarge the organic sector to 25% of the agricultural area. A new organic control regulation, based on a risk assessment approach is about to be implemented. The Farm to Fork communication also proposes to link the FADN much more with the Farm Advisory System and to extend it to a Farm Sustainability Data Network. This first concern relates to the optimal use of ever-scarcer natural resources. Hence, supply chains need to be assessed and re-designed to accommodate this trend and take in to account the triple bottom line of environmental, economic and social measures. The second concern stems from the globalisation of supply chains which increases complexity and vulnerability to major disruptions. To survive, organisations within supply chains must be resilient in the face of such disruptions. This paper’s study addresses these two concerns, i.e. sustainability and resilience, by using computer simulations to explore the effects of disruptions on the sustainability performance of a supply chain.

To assess the economic sustainability of the agro-energetic chain, the gross value added (GVA) is calculated. Moreover, the GHG emissions of the agro-energetic pruning supply chain due to both the pruning collection at the field level, and their combustion for energy production at the power plant, are calculated. Moreover, the ecoefficiency ratio was calculated to measure the value added per 1Mg of GHG emitted into the atmosphere. The findings show the whole agro-energetic chain, namely the power plant and the collection company have a good eco-efficiency ratio. In fact, the power plant’s ecoefficiency ratio (2.64€ per 1Mg of GHG) is slightly lower than harvest firm one (2.91€ per 1Mg of GHG). The findings could be useful to develop new business models based on the circular economy concept. In fact, the business model proposed could push entrepreneurs towards new income opportunities, at the same time, helping local farms and reducing the environmental impacts.
