La Alianza Bioversity-CIAT, en conjunto al programa del CGIAR en Cambio Climático, Agricultura y Seguridad Alimentaria (CCAFS), presenta el informe sobre el análisis de las Mesas Técnicas Agroclimáticas desarrolladas en el marco del proyecto “Un Viaje en Común”, en el municipio de San Miguel - El Salvador. Dentro de este documento se incluye una descripción de la dinámica de trabajo de las MTAs, la validación de los pronósticos diarios y estacionales compartidos en cada una de las sesiones, el grado de adopción de las ventanas óptimas de siembra y una síntesis general de las prácticas de Agricultura Sostenible Adaptada al Clima (ASAC), utilizadas para cada ciclo de siembra.

En el marco del Programa SERVIR-Amazonía, una iniciativa de la Administración Nacional de Aeronáutica y Espacio de Estados Unidos (NASA) y de la Agencia de Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (USAID), se organizó el taller de trabajo: “Consulta de Necesidades de Usuarios del Programa SERVIR-Amazonía” en Quito, Ecuador, los días 9 y 10 de marzo de 2020. El principal objetivo del taller, al cual asistieron 46 personas de 31 organizaciones, fue el de obtener una primera aproximación, desde la perspectiva de los actores involucrados, sobre los principales problemas/amenazas que afronta la Amazonía, enmarcadas en las 4 áreas temáticas en las que trabaja el Programa. En base a esta información, y a través de un proceso participativo de casi dos días, se identificaron necesidades de información y oportunidades para el mejor desarrollo de los servicios bajo el Programa. Durante el taller se facilitó una discusión inicial acerca de las percepciones de los participantes sobre el estado actual de la toma de decisiones ambientales basadas en información geoespacial. El mapeo de los servicios existentes y actores claves se realizó de manera participativa y guiado por las áreas temáticas. Este mapeo es el principal insumo para la priorización de los servicios a desarrollar durante el Programa y se usará en la fase de definición y do-desarrollo de los mismos. Los participantes desarrollaron 13 ideas de servicios geoespaciales en las cuatro áreas temáticas de desarrollo de servicios del Programa.

Esta ficha técnica da respuestas sobre cómo el cambio climático exacerba las causas raíz de la inseguridad humana y los conflictos en Guatemala, utilizando un análisis de rutas causales. Se identifican dos rutas causales principales: 1. Inseguridad alimentaria y de los medios de vida: Los impactos del cambio climático pueden exacerbar las condiciones socioeconómicas que conducen a la vulnerabilidad de los hogares que dependen de la agricultura de subsistencia y de secano, y contribuir aún más a la inseguridad alimentaria y de los medios de vida. Esto, a su vez, puede incentivar la migración económica hacia centros urbanos, dentro y fuera del país. La falta de acceso a medios de vida alternativos puede aumentar la participación en actividades ilícitas y el reclutamiento por parte de grupos criminales, contribuyendo indirectamente a reforzar las redes activas de crimen organizado en las regiones fronterizas con México y Honduras. 2. Disponibilidad y acceso a los recursos: Se han observado impactos del cambio climático en los sistemas hídricos, terrestres y alimentarios, y se prevé que disminuya aún más la productividad de las tierras agrícolas, disminuya el rendimiento de los principales cultivos comerciales y dificulte la disponibilidad y el acceso a los recursos naturales en Guatemala. El aumento de la competencia por el acceso y distribución de los recursos naturales puede provocar tensiones y conflictos.

OBJETIVO: El objetivo del estudio es evaluar los efectos del cambio climático en la distribución de las poblaciones silvestres de 20 especies de árboles. ÁREA DE ESTUDIO: El área de estudio es el bosque de las regiones amazónicas de Huánuco, Amazonas, Junín, Loreto, Madre de Dios, Pasco, San Martín y Ucayali. SELECCIÓN DE LAS 20 ESPECIES : Inicialmente, se colectaron los puntos de presencia de todas las especies de árboles en la Amazonía peruana, según la lista nacional de Perú (Brako & Zarucchi, 1993). Los puntos de presencia fueron obtenidos de las siguientes bases de datos: GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility; www.gbif.org), BIEN (Botanical Information and Ecology Network; http://biendata.org/), Inventario Nacional Forestal y de Fauna Silvestre del SERFOR, y la Base de Datos Espaciales del Organismo de Supervisión de los Recursos Forestales y de Fauna Silvestre (OSINFOR). Luego de colectar los datos, se procedió con la selección de las especies para el modelamiento de acuerdo a los siguientes criterios: (i) que las especies tengan un grado de amenaza según el Decreto Supremo Nº 043-2006-AG AG o estén identificadas como especies forestales de acuerdo a la Resolución Ejecutiva N°118-2019-MINAGRI-SERFOR-DE, (ii) que existan como mínimo 15 puntos de presencia, y (iii) que por lo menos la mitad se encuentren ubicados en la Amazonía. Las siguientes 20 especies cumplieron los criterios y fueron utilizadas para el modelamiento.

El presente documento recopila los Boletines Técnicos Agroclimáticos que fueron generados en ejercicios participativos en las reuniones de las Mesas Técnicas Agroclimáticas (MTA) de Honduras, llevadas a cabo en 2020. Las MTA son realizadas es realizada gracias al esfuerzo conjunto de un gran número de instituciones locales, nacionales e internacionales, enfocados en garantizar la seguridad alimentaria y la agricultura sostenible. Permiten generar espacios de discusión entre actores para la gestión de información agroclimática local, con el fin de identificar las mejores prácticas de adaptación a los fenómenos de variabilidad climática. In 2002, mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) was listed on Appendix II of CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species). This requires that all producing countries define and implement sustainable production systems for mahogany, the most commercially important neotropical timber, which is still harvested from natural forests. The only serious efforts to produce mahogany sustainably from managed natural forests are those of communities in Quintana Roo, Mexico, which control 800,000 of natural production forests. Thirty-six of them currently produce a total of 7,000 m3/yr of mahogany timber. For the past 20 years, foresters and researchers have been testing and developing management systems to ensure sustainable harvests of mahogany. This has been challenging, because mahogany is typically selectively logged from a matrix of more abundant, noncommercial species, leaving a closed forest canopy and too much shade for the survival of mahogany seedlings. Researchers collaborating with communities and their foresters have carried out a range of experiments to determine how to ensure the regeneration of mahogany on community production forests. This article synthesizes twenty years of progress towards sustainable forest management on the part of the forest communities of Quintana Roo, and recent insights from 7 years of research on mahogany seed production and the establishment, survival and growth of mahogany seedlings from natural regeneration, sown seed, and planted seedlings, in response to different kinds of silvicultural treatment in natural forests.

El conocimiento de los procesos hidrológicos y los cambios climáticos que ocurren sobre la cuenca hidrográfica del Rio Cañete ubicada en las Provincias de Cañete y Yauyos (Perú), permiten establecer su grado de afectación, su comportamiento y predecir las tendencias. Esta información permitirá desarrollar procesos de planificación y toma de decisiones en el corto, mediano y largo plazo. En los últimos años, los modelos hidrológicos han sido cada vez más utilizados para comprender y gestionar las actividades naturales y humanas que afectan a los sistemas de cuencas hidrográficas. Estos modelos hidrológicos puede contener parámetros que no se pueden medir directamente debido a las limitaciones para su medición (Beven, 2000). En este estudio se empleó el programa Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT1) en la cuenca del Río Cañete para cuantificar todas las variables del balance hídrico del flujo del agua en el suelo (Producción de agua, agua en el suelo y recarga de acuífero profundo) y agua en la vegetación (Evapotranspiración potencial y actual) para un periodo diario de 19 años (1991-2009). El modelo fue calibrado y validado comparando con datos existente de caudal; esta metodología básicamente consistió en: a) Calibración del modelo, para lograr un ajuste satisfactorio entre los datos medidos y los simulados, mediante un análisis de sensibilidad en los parámetros del modelo, con un periodo de calibración de 8 años de observación (1993-2000): b) Validación del modelo, para evaluar la capacidad predictiva mediante la comparación de los datos medidos y simulados para un periodo de 9 años de observación (2001-2009). La capacidad predictiva del modelo se analizó mediante el coeficiente de correlación entre los caudales simulados y medidos, el cual fue de 0.62 (Diario) - 0.96 (Mensual) y el coeficiente de Nash – Sutcliffe el cual fue de 0.3 a nivel diario y 0.82 a nivel mensual. En el marco del Programa SERVIR-Amazonía, una iniciativa de la Administración Nacional de Aeronáutica y Espacio de Estados Unidos (NASA) y de la Agencia de Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (USAID), se organizó el taller de trabajo: “Consulta de Necesidades de Usuarios del Programa SERVIR-Amazonía” en Quito, Ecuador, los días 9 y 10 de marzo de 2020. El principal objetivo del taller, al cual asistieron 46 personas de 31 organizaciones, fue el de obtener una primera aproximación, desde la perspectiva de los actores involucrados, sobre los principales problemas/amenazas que afronta la Amazonía, enmarcadas en las 4 áreas temáticas en las que trabaja el Programa. En base a esta información, y a través de un proceso participativo de casi dos días, se identificaron necesidades de información y oportunidades para el mejor desarrollo de los servicios bajo el Programa. Durante el taller se facilitó una discusión inicial acerca de las percepciones de los participantes sobre el estado actual de la toma de decisiones ambientales basadas en información geoespacial. El mapeo de los servicios existentes y actores claves se realizó de manera participativa y guiado por las áreas temáticas. Este mapeo es el principal insumo para la priorización de los servicios a desarrollar durante el Programa y se usará en la fase de definición y do-desarrollo de los mismos. Los participantes desarrollaron 13 ideas de servicios geoespaciales en las cuatro áreas temáticas de desarrollo de servicios del Programa.

Esta ficha técnica da respuestas sobre cómo el cambio climático exacerba las causas raíz de la inseguridad humana y los conflictos en Guatemala, utilizando un análisis de rutas causales. Se identifican dos rutas causales principales: 1. Inseguridad alimentaria y de los medios de vida: Los impactos del cambio climático pueden exacerbar las condiciones socioeconómicas que conducen a la vulnerabilidad de los hogares que dependen de la agricultura de subsistencia y de secano, y contribuir aún más a la inseguridad alimentaria y de los medios de vida. Esto, a su vez, puede incentivar la migración económica hacia centros urbanos, dentro y fuera del país. La falta de acceso a medios de vida alternativos puede aumentar la participación en actividades ilícitas y el reclutamiento por parte de grupos criminales, contribuyendo indirectamente a reforzar las redes activas de crimen organizado en las regiones fronterizas con México y Honduras. 2. Disponibilidad y acceso a los recursos: Se han observado impactos del cambio climático en los sistemas hídricos, terrestres y alimentarios, y se prevé que disminuya aún más la productividad de las tierras agrícolas, disminuya el rendimiento de los principales cultivos comerciales y dificulte la disponibilidad y el acceso a los recursos naturales en Guatemala. El aumento de la competencia por el acceso y distribución de los recursos naturales puede provocar tensiones y conflictos.

OBJETIVO: El objetivo del estudio es evaluar los efectos del cambio climático en la distribución de las poblaciones silvestres de 20 especies de árboles. ÁREA DE ESTUDIO: El área de estudio es el bosque de las regiones amazónicas de Huánuco, Amazonas, Junín, Loreto, Madre de Dios, Pasco, San Martín y Ucayali. SELECCIÓN DE LAS 20 ESPECIES : Inicialmente, se colectaron los puntos de presencia de todas las especies de árboles en la Amazonía peruana, según la lista nacional de Perú (Brako & Zarucchi, 1993). Los puntos de presencia fueron obtenidos de las siguientes bases de datos: GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility; www.gbif.org), BIEN (Botanical Information and Ecology Network; http://biendata.org/), Inventario Nacional Forestal y de Fauna Silvestre del SERFOR, y la Base de Datos Espaciales del Organismo de Supervisión de los Recursos Forestales y de Fauna Silvestre (OSINFOR). Luego de colectar los datos, se procedió con la selección de las especies para el modelamiento de acuerdo a los siguientes criterios: (i) que las especies tengan un grado de amenaza según el Decreto Supremo Nº 043-2006-AG AG o estén identificadas como especies forestales de acuerdo a la Resolución Ejecutiva N°118-2019-MINAGRI-SERFOR-DE, (ii) que existan como mínimo 15 puntos de presencia, y (iii) que por lo menos la mitad se encuentren ubicados en la Amazonía. Las siguientes 20 especies cumplieron los criterios y fueron utilizadas para el modelamiento.

In 2002, mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) was listed on Appendix II of CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species). This requires that all producing countries define and implement sustainable production systems for mahogany, the most commercially important neotropical timber, which is still harvested from natural forests. The only serious efforts to produce mahogany sustainably from managed natural forests are those of communities in Quintana Roo, Mexico, which control 800,000 of natural production forests. Thirty-six of them currently produce a total of 7,000 m3/yr of mahogany timber. For the past 20 years, foresters and researchers have been testing and developing management systems to ensure sustainable harvests of mahogany. This has been challenging, because mahogany is typically selectively logged from a matrix of more abundant, noncommercial species, leaving a closed forest canopy and too much shade for the survival of mahogany seedlings. Researchers collaborating with communities and their foresters have carried out a range of experiments to determine how to ensure the regeneration of mahogany on community production forests. This article synthesizes twenty years of progress towards sustainable forest management on the part of the forest communities of Quintana Roo, and recent insights from 7 years of research on mahogany seed production and the establishment, survival and growth of mahogany seedlings from natural regeneration, sown seed, and planted seedlings, in response to different kinds of silvicultural treatment in natural forests.

El conocimiento de los procesos hidrológicos y los cambios climáticos que ocurren sobre la cuenca hidrográfica del Rio Cañete ubicada en las Provincias de Cañete y Yauyos (Perú), permiten establecer su grado de afectación, su comportamiento y predecir las tendencias. Esta información permitirá desarrollar procesos de planificación y toma de decisiones en el corto, mediano y largo plazo. En los últimos años, los modelos hidrológicos han sido cada vez más utilizados para comprender y gestionar las actividades naturales y humanas que afectan a los sistemas de cuencas hidrográficas. Estos modelos hidrológicos puede contener parámetros que no se pueden medir directamente debido a las limitaciones para su medición (Beven, 2000). En este estudio se empleó el programa Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT1) en la cuenca del Río Cañete para cuantificar todas las variables del balance hídrico del flujo del agua en el suelo (Producción de agua, agua en el suelo y recarga de acuífero profundo) y agua en la vegetación (Evapotranspiración potencial y actual) para un periodo diario de 19 años (1991-2009). El modelo fue calibrado y validado comparando con datos existente de caudal; esta metodología básicamente consistió en: a) Calibración del modelo, para lograr un ajuste satisfactorio entre los datos medidos y los simulados, mediante un análisis de sensibilidad en los parámetros del modelo, con un periodo de calibración de 8 años de observación (1993-2000): b) Validación del modelo, para evaluar la capacidad predictiva mediante la comparación de los datos medidos y simulados para un periodo de 9 años de observación (2001-2009). La capacidad predictiva del modelo se analizó mediante el coeficiente de correlación entre los caudales simulados y medidos, el cual fue de 0.62 (Diario) - 0.96 (Mensual) y el coeficiente de Nash – Sutcliffe el cual fue de 0.3 a nivel diario y 0.82 a nivel mensual.
