Approximately 3 million tons of olive oil are produced in the world. Spain, with an average production close to 1,300,000 tons, is the leading country in production. Within Spain, Andalusia produces 60% of national production and, consequently, around 30% of world production. The industries linked to the production of olive oil, first transformation industries, are of two types: cooperatives and non-cooperatives -industrial. Of all industries, 50% are cooperatives and have a market share of 70%.In the context described, this work aims to contribute, through the knowledge generated, published and transferred, to the sustainable transformation of the olive-growing agri-food industry in Andalusia. To do so, the general objective is: to know the behaviour of Andalusian olive oil production companies towards the adoption of quality, environmental and food safety standards, as well as to analyse the influence of the adoption of the ISO 14001 standard in the economic and commercial performance of olive oil producing companies in Andalusia. Further, its implication in organizational economic and financial benefits. The results of this work endorse the commercial function of the standards -ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BRC, IFS, and ISO 22000- in the olive industry as they can be consider a marketing tool. These accreditations can be considered an intangible value for companies that allows overcoming the asymmetry of information, especially in international markets, allowing companies in the olive industry a higher sale, both in national and international markets.Regarding the benefits and financial profitability, although in the studies where cooperatives and non-cooperatives have been considered such a relationship could not be affirmed, in the study focused only on cooperatives, we show that the adoption of voluntary environmental behaviour and its accreditation has an effect on commercial performances. The ISO 14001 standard has a positive influence on the financial performance of the organization and on its business results. ...
