description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article , Journal 2013Publisher:Elsevier BV Authors: jerome Sabathier; Simon Roussanaly; Axel Pierru;Abstract This paper provides new empirical insights on the capital structure of project-financed LNG infrastructures and gas pipeline projects, by using data relating to projects whose financial close occurred between June 2004 and March 2011. Most results are consistent with the basic view of risk-averse funds suppliers. Especially, the projects located in risky countries and larger projects tend to exhibit lower debt ratios and less-concentrated equity ownerships. In addition, regasification projects appear to have a more diluted equity ownership. Methodological issues raised by the financing of these projects are also examined from a capital-budgeting perspective. In particular, the equity residual method, usually used by industrial practitioners to value these projects, should be adjusted.

Summary Past climatic fluctuations have played a major role in shaping the current plant biodiversity. Although harbouring an exceptional biota, oceanic islands have received little attention in studies on species demographic history and past vegetation patterns. We investigated the impact of past climatic changes on the effective population size of a tree (Coffea mauritiana) that is endemic to Reunion Island, located in the south‐western Indian Ocean (SWIO). Demographic changes were inferred using summary statistics calculated from genomic data. Using ecological niche modelling and the current distribution of genetic diversity, the paleodistribution of the species was also assessed. A reduction in the effective population size of C. mauritiana during the last glaciation maximum was inferred. The distribution of the species was reduced on the western side of the island, due to low rainfall. It appeared that a major reduction in rainfall and a slight temperature decrease prevailed in the SWIO. Our findings indicated that analyses on the current patterns of intraspecific genetic variations can efficiently contribute to past climatic changes characterisation in remote islands. Identifying area with higher resilience in oceanic islands could provide guidance in forest management and conservation faced to the global climate change.

Erning;Abstract The elemental dissolution of Cu-Zn alloys was investigated as a function of Zn content ranging from 0 to 45 wt%. Atomic emission spectroelectrochemistry (AESEC) was utilized to directly monitor Cu2+ and Zn2+ release and oxide growth as function of time during potentiodynamic experiments. It was determined that Cu dissolution undergoes a simultaneous mechanism of Cu2O formation and Cu2+ release. The addition of Zn in Cu-Zn alloy does not measurably change the dissolution mechanism of Cu2+ and the rate of aqueous Cu2+ was only dependent on the potential. Zn dissolution was however blocked by the formation of a Cu(0) film which shifted the Zn dissolution in the anodic direction.

AbstractA new approach for the replacement of heart valves consists of obtaining an acellular matrix from animal aortic valves that performs mechanically, is nonantigenic, and is free from calcification and fibroblast proliferation. Novel biochemical treatments must be developed for this purpose. In this work, we focus on the characterization of collagen in acellular bovine cardiovascular tissues, fresh or glutaraldehyde treated, and stored in different solutions [phosphate‐buffered saline (PBS), ethanol, octanol, and glutaraldehyde], to determine whether the resulting fibrous material is structurally preserved. The preservation of the triple helical structure of collagen is checked by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), which is a well suited technique to analyze thermal transitions in proteins, such as denaturation. To get insight into the molecular dynamics of collagen in the nanometric range, we used thermally stimulated currents, a dielectric technique running at low frequency, that measure the dipolar reorientations in proteins submitted to a static electrical field. The combined use of these two techniques allowed us to evaluate the physical structure and conformation of collagen after the different chemical treatments. We have found that the glutaraldehyde treatment followed by octanol storage preserves the triple helical conformation of the polypeptidic chains of collagen, contrary to the ethanol and PBS storage that induce drastic changes in the thermal and dielectric behavior of the protein. Moreover, this particular chemical treatment stabilizes the collagen structure (shift toward high temperature of the collagen denaturation and stiffening of the chains by a cross‐linking action) when compared to the control sample, and so could provide interesting fibrous material for the conception of bioprosthetic heart valve. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc., J Biomed Mater Res 64A: 330–338, 2003

The study concerns the method of control by the converter (DPC). The proposed method is around two hysteresis controllers that enable the adjustment of active and reactive power. The research in this paper is verified by MATLAB SIMULINK software. It has been demonstrated through the simulation results that the proposed strategy can be an attractive and practical solution to multi-phase machines applications.

David Huang;Abstract The hybrid pneumatic power system (HPPS) proposed in this research replaces the battery’s electric-chemical energy with flow work and optimizes the management and utilization of the energy. This power system is able to keep the internal-combustion engine working at its optimal condition and turn its waste energy into effective mechanical energy and so enhance the thermal efficiency of the whole system. Using computer simulation software ITI-SIM, this study simulates the overall dynamic characteristics of the system in accordance with the regulated running-vehicle test-mode ECE47, and, with experimental verification and analysis, proves that this system can meet the requirements of the standard running-car mode. As for recycling the waste energy, the experimental results show that this design could offset the shortcomings of the low-density of pneumatic power and so effectively enhance the efficiency of the whole system.

Lavoie; Adam Skorek;In this paper, we present the conjugate heat transfer analysis in a 167-kVA dry-type transformer using the parallel version of the computational fluid dynamics code Fluent 6.0. The renormalization group kappa-epsiv model is proposed to compute the turbulent aspect of the convective airflow inside the transformer metal tank for Air Natural/Air Natural cooling conditions. An experimental approach was used to assess Joule losses in the low-/high-voltage windings and eddy-current losses in the magnetic core. The resulting mathematical model was solved using 14 compute nodes on a distributed machine.

AbstractMononuclear trivalent lanthanide complexes with formula [Ln(L)(NO3)3] [in which L=4,4‐difluoro‐8‐(2′:2′′;6′′:2′′′‐terpyridin‐4′′‐yl)‐1,3,5,7‐tetramethyl‐2,6‐diethyl‐4‐bora‐3a,4a‐diaza‐s‐indacene (Boditerpy)] are reported for Ln=Yb, Nd, Er, La and Gd. According to the crystal structure of the Yb complex, the lanthanide ion is bound to the terdentate terpyridine and the inner coordination sphere of the nine‐coordinate lanthanide ion is completed by three bidentate nitrate anions. The coordination polyhedron can be described as a distorted tricapped antiprism. The terpyridine chelate is almost planar and tilted by nearly 60° from the indacene subunit. FT‐IR spectra confirm the bidentate binding mode of the nitrate anions for the other complexes. NMR and ES‐MS spectra (through characteristic isotopic patterns) confirm the chemical formulation. The complexes have high molar absorption coefficients in the visible spectral region (65 000 M−1 cm−1 at 529 nm) and display sizeable NIR luminescence (900 to 1600 nm, for Ln=Yb, Nd and Er), upon irradiation through the electronic state of the indacene moiety at 514 nm. Crystal‐field splitting was analysed at low temperature. The quantum yield of the Yb solution (10−4 M) in dichloromethane amounts to 0.31 %, corresponding to a sensitisation efficacy of the ligand of ca. 63 %.

Most results are consistent with the basic view of risk-averse funds suppliers. Especially, the projects located in risky countries and larger projects tend to exhibit lower debt ratios and less-concentrated equity ownerships. In addition, regasification projects appear to have a more diluted equity ownership. Methodological issues raised by the financing of these projects are also examined from a capital-budgeting perspective. In particular, the equity residual method, usually used by industrial practitioners to value these projects, should be adjusted.

Summary Past climatic fluctuations have played a major role in shaping the current plant biodiversity. Although harbouring an exceptional biota, oceanic islands have received little attention in studies on species demographic history and past vegetation patterns. We investigated the impact of past climatic changes on the effective population size of a tree (Coffea mauritiana) that is endemic to Reunion Island, located in the south‐western Indian Ocean (SWIO). Demographic changes were inferred using summary statistics calculated from genomic data. Using ecological niche modelling and the current distribution of genetic diversity, the paleodistribution of the species was also assessed. A reduction in the effective population size of C. mauritiana during the last glaciation maximum was inferred. The distribution of the species was reduced on the western side of the island, due to low rainfall. It appeared that a major reduction in rainfall and a slight temperature decrease prevailed in the SWIO. Our findings indicated that analyses on the current patterns of intraspecific genetic variations can efficiently contribute to past climatic changes characterisation in remote islands. Identifying area with higher resilience in oceanic islands could provide guidance in forest management and conservation faced to the global climate change.

Atomic emission spectroelectrochemistry (AESEC) was utilized to directly monitor Cu2+ and Zn2+ release and oxide growth as function of time during potentiodynamic experiments. It was determined that Cu dissolution undergoes a simultaneous mechanism of Cu2O formation and Cu2+ release. The addition of Zn in Cu-Zn alloy does not measurably change the dissolution mechanism of Cu2+ and the rate of aqueous Cu2+ was only dependent on the potential. Zn dissolution was however blocked by the formation of a Cu(0) film which shifted the Zn dissolution in the anodic direction.

AbstractA new approach for the replacement of heart valves consists of obtaining an acellular matrix from animal aortic valves that performs mechanically, is nonantigenic, and is free from calcification and fibroblast proliferation. Novel biochemical treatments must be developed for this purpose. In this work, we focus on the characterization of collagen in acellular bovine cardiovascular tissues, fresh or glutaraldehyde treated, and stored in different solutions [phosphate‐buffered saline (PBS), ethanol, octanol, and glutaraldehyde], to determine whether the resulting fibrous material is structurally preserved. The preservation of the triple helical structure of collagen is checked by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), which is a well suited technique to analyze thermal transitions in proteins, such as denaturation. To get insight into the molecular dynamics of collagen in the nanometric range, we used thermally stimulated currents, a dielectric technique running at low frequency, that measure the dipolar reorientations in proteins submitted to a static electrical field. The combined use of these two techniques allowed us to evaluate the physical structure and conformation of collagen after the different chemical treatments. We have found that the glutaraldehyde treatment followed by octanol storage preserves the triple helical conformation of the polypeptidic chains of collagen, contrary to the ethanol and PBS storage that induce drastic changes in the thermal and dielectric behavior of the protein. Moreover, this particular chemical treatment stabilizes the collagen structure (shift toward high temperature of the collagen denaturation and stiffening of the chains by a cross‐linking action) when compared to the control sample, and so could provide interesting fibrous material for the conception of bioprosthetic heart valve. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc., J Biomed Mater Res 64A: 330–338, 2003

The study concerns the method of control by the converter (DPC). The proposed method is around two hysteresis controllers that enable the adjustment of active and reactive power. The research in this paper is verified by MATLAB SIMULINK software. It has been demonstrated through the simulation results that the proposed strategy can be an attractive and practical solution to multi-phase machines applications.

David Huang;Abstract The hybrid pneumatic power system (HPPS) proposed in this research replaces the battery’s electric-chemical energy with flow work and optimizes the management and utilization of the energy. This power system is able to keep the internal-combustion engine working at its optimal condition and turn its waste energy into effective mechanical energy and so enhance the thermal efficiency of the whole system. Using computer simulation software ITI-SIM, this study simulates the overall dynamic characteristics of the system in accordance with the regulated running-vehicle test-mode ECE47, and, with experimental verification and analysis, proves that this system can meet the requirements of the standard running-car mode. As for recycling the waste energy, the experimental results show that this design could offset the shortcomings of the low-density of pneumatic power and so effectively enhance the efficiency of the whole system.

The renormalization group kappa-epsiv model is proposed to compute the turbulent aspect of the convective airflow inside the transformer metal tank for Air Natural/Air Natural cooling conditions. An experimental approach was used to assess Joule losses in the low-/high-voltage windings and eddy-current losses in the magnetic core. The resulting mathematical model was solved using 14 compute nodes on a distributed machine.

AbstractMononuclear trivalent lanthanide complexes with formula [Ln(L)(NO3)3] [in which L=4,4‐difluoro‐8‐(2′:2′′;6′′:2′′′‐terpyridin‐4′′‐yl)‐1,3,5,7‐tetramethyl‐2,6‐diethyl‐4‐bora‐3a,4a‐diaza‐s‐indacene (Boditerpy)] are reported for Ln=Yb, Nd, Er, La and Gd. According to the crystal structure of the Yb complex, the lanthanide ion is bound to the terdentate terpyridine and the inner coordination sphere of the nine‐coordinate lanthanide ion is completed by three bidentate nitrate anions. The coordination polyhedron can be described as a distorted tricapped antiprism. The terpyridine chelate is almost planar and tilted by nearly 60° from the indacene subunit. FT‐IR spectra confirm the bidentate binding mode of the nitrate anions for the other complexes. NMR and ES‐MS spectra (through characteristic isotopic patterns) confirm the chemical formulation. The complexes have high molar absorption coefficients in the visible spectral region (65 000 M−1 cm−1 at 529 nm) and display sizeable NIR luminescence (900 to 1600 nm, for Ln=Yb, Nd and Er), upon irradiation through the electronic state of the indacene moiety at 514 nm. Crystal‐field splitting was analysed at low temperature. The quantum yield of the Yb solution (10−4 M) in dichloromethane amounts to 0.31 %, corresponding to a sensitisation efficacy of the ligand of ca. 63 %.

Combesure; G. Olalde; D. Schwander;Abstract Theoretical analysis of the interaction between concentrated solar radiation and a honeycomb matrix or a bed of particles cooled by a gas is presented. The computation and the experimental results show evidence of overheating of the solid near the irradiated surface. To prevent the upper surface from this phenomenon and to reduce the radiative heat losses, we propose to use selective semi-transparent porous absorbers. The first results about coatings on silica are presented.
