    Accumulation of large quantity of non-biodegradable textile dyes into the environment made much attention to finding a suitable solution for the degradation of textile dyes. In this present study, decolorization efficiency of two different treatment technologies such as Photo-Assisted Chemical Oxidation (PACO – UV/H2O2) and Electrocoagulation (EC) on Reactive Blue 194 dye solution (RB194) at different operational conditions were analyzed and the competitiveness of the treatment technologies in terms of energy consumption and operational costs were discussed. Even though both the processes follow different mechanistic approach for the degradation of dye solution, both the processes achieved more than 99% of decolorization efficiency. In terms of material/chemical consumption for the decolorization of dye solution PACO (US$ 0.016) competes with the EC (US$ 0.5937). But in terms of electrical energy consumption as well as the overall operating cost EC process compete (US$ 0.0481 & US$ 0.6418) with the PACO process (US$ 1.0267 & US$ 1.04337).

    In the present study, ultra low carbon steel samples were deformed in near plane-strain mode with different strains, strain rates and temperatures. Estimates of in-grain misorientation developments were obtained respectively for the gamma-fiber (ND//) and alpha-fiber (RD//) oriented deformed grains. Though a general drop in in-grain misorientation was observed with increase in deformation temperature, the highest reduction of 70% showed a clear increase at the intermediate deformation temperatures. Under these condition(s), the misorientation increase in deformed gamma-fiber grains was more substantial than in alpha-fiber grains. The phenomenon was related to the preferred appearance of grain interior strain localizations. The study brings out a clear possibility of optimizing the stored energy advantage in the deformed gamma-fiber through controlled warm working.

    The main results of a large research project undertaken in order to validate the composition of new ternary cements containing Portland clinker, limestone filler and slag are presented. Concretes with 300 and 340 kg/m3 binder, either reference or ternary cements, have been tested for mechanical and durability performances.     Yeasts are truly fascinating microorganisms. Due to their diverse and dynamic activities, they have been used for the production of many interesting products, such as beer, wine, bread, biofuels, and biopharmaceuticals. Saccharomyces cerevisiae (brewers’ or bakers’ yeast) is the yeast species that is surely the most exploited by man. Saccharomyces is a top choice organism for industrial applications, although its use for producing beer dates back to at least the 6th millennium BC. Bakers’ yeast has been a cornerstone of modern biotechnology, enabling the development of efficient production processes. Today, diverse yeast species are explored for industrial applications. This Special Issue is focused on some recent developments of yeast biotechnology, i.e., bioethanol, wine and beer, and enzyme production. Additionally, the new field of yeast nanobiotechnology is introduced and reviewed.

    The Ramsey model of economic growth is revisited from the point of view of viability. A viable state is a state from which there exists at least one tra jectory that remains in the set of constraints of minimal consumption and positive wealth. Viability is presented with a constraint of minimal consumption, then with an additional criterion of economic sustainability. The comparison of viability kernels with or without sustainability shows how much consumption should be reduced and when. The viable-optimal solution in the sense of inter-temporal consumption is obtained on the viability boundary of an auxiliary system. Technological progress works against population growth to favor the possibility for a given state of being viable or viable-sustainable.

    Accumulation of large quantity of non-biodegradable textile dyes into the environment made much attention to finding a suitable solution for the degradation of textile dyes. In this present study, decolorization efficiency of two different treatment technologies such as Photo-Assisted Chemical Oxidation (PACO – UV/H2O2) and Electrocoagulation (EC) on Reactive Blue 194 dye solution (RB194) at different operational conditions were analyzed and the competitiveness of the treatment technologies in terms of energy consumption and operational costs were discussed. Even though both the processes follow different mechanistic approach for the degradation of dye solution, both the processes achieved more than 99% of decolorization efficiency. In terms of material/chemical consumption for the decolorization of dye solution PACO (US$ 0.016) competes with the EC (US$ 0.5937). But in terms of electrical energy consumption as well as the overall operating cost EC process compete (US$ 0.0481 & US$ 0.6418) with the PACO process (US$ 1.0267 & US$ 1.04337).

    In the present study, ultra low carbon steel samples were deformed in near plane-strain mode with different strains, strain rates and temperatures. Estimates of in-grain misorientation developments were obtained respectively for the gamma-fiber (ND//) and alpha-fiber (RD//) oriented deformed grains. Though a general drop in in-grain misorientation was observed with increase in deformation temperature, the highest reduction of 70% showed a clear increase at the intermediate deformation temperatures. Under these condition(s), the misorientation increase in deformed gamma-fiber grains was more substantial than in alpha-fiber grains. The phenomenon was related to the preferred appearance of grain interior strain localizations. The study brings out a clear possibility of optimizing the stored energy advantage in the deformed gamma-fiber through controlled warm working.

    Yeasts are truly fascinating microorganisms. Due to their diverse and dynamic activities, they have been used for the production of many interesting products, such as beer, wine, bread, biofuels, and biopharmaceuticals. Saccharomyces cerevisiae (brewers’ or bakers’ yeast) is the yeast species that is surely the most exploited by man. Saccharomyces is a top choice organism for industrial applications, although its use for producing beer dates back to at least the 6th millennium BC. Bakers’ yeast has been a cornerstone of modern biotechnology, enabling the development of efficient production processes. Today, diverse yeast species are explored for industrial applications. This Special Issue is focused on some recent developments of yeast biotechnology, i.e., bioethanol, wine and beer, and enzyme production. Additionally, the new field of yeast nanobiotechnology is introduced and reviewed.

    The Ramsey model of economic growth is revisited from the point of view of viability. A viable state is a state from which there exists at least one tra jectory that remains in the set of constraints of minimal consumption and positive wealth. Viability is presented with a constraint of minimal consumption, then with an additional criterion of economic sustainability. The comparison of viability kernels with or without sustainability shows how much consumption should be reduced and when. The viable-optimal solution in the sense of inter-temporal consumption is obtained on the viability boundary of an auxiliary system. Technological progress works against population growth to favor the possibility for a given state of being viable or viable-sustainable.

El Southern African Journal of HIV Medicine se centra en el tratamiento del VIH/SIDA, la prevención y temas relacionados relevantes para la práctica clínica y de salud pública. El propósito de la revista es difundir los resultados originales de la investigación y apoyar el aprendizaje de alto nivel relacionado con la medicina del VIH. The Southern African Journal of HIV Medicine is focused on HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention and related topics relevant to clinical and public health practice. The purpose of the journal is to disseminate original research results and support high-level learning related to HIV Medicine. It publishes original research articles, editorials, case reports/case series, reviews of state-of-the-art clinical practice and correspondence. تركز مجلة الجنوب الأفريقي لطب فيروس نقص المناعة البشرية على علاج فيروس نقص المناعة البشرية/الإيدز والوقاية منه والموضوعات ذات الصلة بالممارسة السريرية وممارسة الصحة العامة. الغرض من المجلة هو نشر نتائج البحوث الأصلية ودعم التعلم رفيع المستوى المتعلق بطب فيروس نقص المناعة البشرية. وتنشر مقالات بحثية أصلية، ومقالات افتتاحية، وتقارير حالة/سلسلة حالات، ومراجعات لأحدث الممارسات السريرية والمراسلات.
