Using the covid-19 pandemic in a time window of 18 months (from March 2020 to Sept 2021) as a case study of major turbulences, we estimate how dynamic capabilities have shaped corporate resilience and rebound performance, for large multi-billion revenue generating firms worldwide. Four findings stand out. First, dynamic capabilities are positively correlated with boost in profit performance post-covid pandemic peak, but their role and importance act asymmetrically between resilient and non-resilient firms (defined as ability to (not) recover profit pre-covid). Second, among the portfolio of dynamic capability domains studied (innovation, agility, digital technology, sustainability), innovation and agility are the most relevant ones to affect resilience and performance. Third, “doubling down” on dynamic capabilities during the crisis is also important, as the crisis allows firms to seize opportunities at the expense of weaker ones that may be stuck in a retrenchment posture. Third, the seizing/reconfiguring opportunity has larger payoff after lockdown, when market opportunities are no longer constrained. Those findings are general, as they are found for a large variety of 18 industries studied. ; info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Using a new online weather prediction tool, the RIC4REC project has been identifying communities in Mali that are currently experiencing weather and climate scenarios similar to those that other communities could face in 30 years’ time. The “Farms of the Future” approach, developed by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) research programme on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), aims to improve the capacity of communities to adapt to climate change by connecting farmers who are currently confronting a range of climate risks with those who may be dealing with them down the line. The exchanges, in which community members visit their “future village”, allow farmers to learn about new opportunities to tackle climate stresses.

Abstract. Paleoclimate information on multiple climate variables at different espaciotiotemporal scales is increasingly important to understand environmental and societal responses to climate change. A lack of high-quality reconstructions of past hydroclimate has recently been identified as a critical research gap. Speleothems, with their precise chronologies, widespread distribution, and ability to record changes in local to regional hydroclimate variability, are an ideal source of such information. Here we present a new version of the Speleothem Isotopes Synthesis and AnaLysis database (SISALv3), which has been expanded to include trace element ratios and Sr-isotopes as additional, hydroclimate-sensitive geochemical proxies. The oxygen and carbon isotope data included in previous versions of the database have been substantially expanded. SISALv3, contains speleothem data from 364 sites from across the globe, including 94 Mg/Ca, 83 Sr/Ca, 51 Ba/Ca, 25 U/Ca, 29 P/Ca and 14 Sr-isotope records. The database also has increased espaciotiotemporal coverage for stable oxygen (831) and carbon (588) isotope records compared to SISALv2. Additional meta information has been added to improve machine-readability and filtering of data. Standardized chronologies are included for all new entities together with the originally published chronologies. The SISALv3 database thus constitutes a unique resource of speleothem paleoclimate information that allows regional-to-global paleoclimate analyses based on multiple geochemical proxies, allowing more robust interpretations of past hydroclimate and comparisons with isotope-enabled climate models and other earth system and hydrological models. The huge demand of energy fuels in the country poses a large burden on the exchequer. Augmenting the demand with the non conventional energy fuels is becoming inevitable. Pure form of Methane from gas hydrate deposits could be a potential alternative, which prompted the scientific community world over for its exploration. The multidisciplinary investigations and drilling in Krishna-Godavari and Mahanadi offshore basins, and Andaman Sea have established the occurrence of gas hydrate in varied forms, i.e., in the fractured clay/shale formations, stratigraphically controlled clay/sand and volcanic ash etc. The KG offshore basin is one of the promising petroliferous basins of the eastern continental margin of India. This paper mainly the synthesis of published work from the gas hydrates group at NIO towards the understanding of the gas hydrate distribution in KG basin inferred from the multi disciplinary investigations.

Fruits and vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet, and their consumption is expected to increase in the future because of health promotion. However, climate change and globalization will have an effect on their food safety (Paterson and Lima 2010). In order to maintain the desired level of food safety in Europe, it is necessary to explore new food contamination pathways and approaches to deal with these projected changes. An important food safety problem is the presence of fungi and mycotoxins. (Semi) dried plants are mainly associated with mycotoxins but recently fresh produce are associated with new emerging mycotoxins. The objective of the research is to develop a farm-to-fork risk assessment model to predict the mycotoxin concentration in fresh and derived products in order to predict future risks due to climate change and growing import of foods from third countries. An initial inventory is made of relevant moulds and mycotoxins which occur on fresh produce and derived food products. Therefore data of mycotoxin concentration on dried plant, fresh and derived products is collected. This is done in cooperation with ICPC partners (e.g. Egypt, Brazil, and India) and is extended with European and national data. The data is obtained by looking both at scientific articles and grey literature. To collect additional information a screening is performed with a developed LC/MS method. We screened for ochratoxin A, fumonisin B1, B2, B3, alternariol, alternariol monomethyl ether, tenuazonic acid in tomatoes, onions, sweet bell peppers and soft red fruits. The MS parameters were tuned for each mycotoxin and both positive and negative electrospray conditions were checked and it was decided to screen for the mycotoxins in two separated runs (positive and negative electrospray run). The 7 mycotoxins can be screened in one sample in a relative short time of 1 hour. Three solvents were tested for extraction optimalization and repeatability, LOD and LOQ were determined.
