    The design and implementation of the service included the development of a network of sensor nodes for monitoring the power consumption of one or more environments and the implementation of decisions related to energy consumption. The development envisaged: Implementation of a dedicated Middleware for support of the service and communication channel for data forwarding from individual RoomNet; the design, installation and activation of a sensor network that can also communicate with other sensor networks; the sampling of the energy data coming from the monitored areas to estimate the value of the instantaneous power; the implementation of an appropriate Web Application with the purpose of fine-tuning of the software and to perform control operations.

    Dottorato di ricerca in Ecologia forestale ; Allo scopo di studiare l’effetto dell’incremento di temperatura e della riduzione delle precipitazioni su di un ecosistema di gariga dominato da Cistus monspeliensis L. (Cistaceae), Dorycnium pentaphyllum Scop. (Fabaceae) and Helichrysum italicum subsp. microphyllum (Asteraceae) situato nel nord ovest della Sardegna, è stata condotta una manipolazione del microclima che ha incrementato le temperature minime (+0.9 °C, trattamento warming) e ridotto le precipitazioni (-20%, trattamento drought ). Sulle tre specie sono stati monitorati gli scambi gassosi e il potenziale idrico, su C. monspeliensis, specie dominante, anche la capacità fotosintetica, il rapporto Fv/Fm, la morfologia della foglia e del getto e il contenuto in azoto fogliare. H. italicum (specie con apparato radicale superficiale) è risultata la specie più sensibile sia all’aridità naturale sia a quella simulata dal trattamento drought, con la maggiore riduzione dei tassi di fotosintesi durante l’estate e uno scarso recupero in autunno, D. pentaphyllum (specie con apparato radicale profondo) quella più resistente, con la minore depressione estiva dell’assimilazione di CO2 e un completo recupero autunnale. Come H. italicum, C. monspeliensis (specie con apparato radicale superficiale) mostra una forte riduzione della fotosintesi in aridità, spiegata soprattutto da limitazioni stomatiche e da un incremento di LMA, ma anche un veloce recupero autunnale, legato all’espansione della lamina fogliare delle foglie estive ad elevato LMA. In questa specie il trattamento drought ha indotto una acclimatazione della fotosintesi allo stress idrico e un ritardo nel recupero autunnale, mentre il trattamento warming un incremento della capacità fotosintetica, delle dimensioni del getto e delle foglie e del contenuto in azoto fogliare, forse dovuto ad una maggiore mineralizzazione dell’azoto nel suolo. ; In order to investigate how the forecast temperature increase and rainfall reduction could affect Mediterranean shrubland ecosystems, the adaptions of Cistus monspeliensis L. (Cistaceae), Dorycnium pentaphyllum Scop. (Fabaceae) and Helichrysum italicum subsp. microphyllum (Willd.) (Asteraceae), to the actual Mediterranean climate, as well as their responses to manipulation of minimum temperature (+0.9 °C) and rainfall (- 20 %), were studied from 2009 to 2011 in a garrigue ecosystem, located in the NW of Sardinia . Gas exchange at leaf level and pre-dawn leaf water potential were monitored in the three species. In addition, photosynthetic capacity, maximum quantum yield of PSII, carbon and nitrogen leaf content and morphology at leaf and shoot level were also recorded in C. mospeliensis. The comparison among species, based on photosynthesis and water potential, identified H. italicum (shallow rooted species) as the most sensitive species to the natural and simulated drought, because of the strong reduction of gas exchange rates during drought and the slow recovery in Autumn, and D. pentaphyllum (deep rooted species) as the most resistant one, whit the littlest reduction of photosynthesis rates in summer. As H. italicum, C. monspeliensis (shallow rooted species) showed a strong reduction of CO2 assimilation rates during drought, mainly explained by stomatal limitations and LMA increase, but also a quick recovery in Autumn, connected to the lamina expansion in the high LMA summer leaves. In this species the drought treatment induced photosynthesis acclimation to water stress and a delayed Autumn recovery, while warming treatment an increase of the photosynthetic capacity, leaf nitrogen content and shoot and leaf size, maybe connected to an enhancement of soil nitrogen mineralization rates.

    Dottorato di ricerca in Scienze e tecnologie per la gestione forestale e ambientale ; La produzione di energia termica, può essere realizzata adottando molteplici soluzioni tecniche/tecnologiche. Al fine di promuovere la sostenibilità energetica ed ambientale può essere utilizzato combustibile originato da biomassa legnosa. Nell’ambito degli impianti a biomassa, col presente elaborato si mette in evidenza l’impatto ambientale, sociale ed economico, attraverso il confronto tra impianti e metodologie di analisi differenti. Sono stati analizzati nel dettaglio due casi studio : 1. Impianto a sminuzzato in grado di erogare una potenza utile di 650 kW, per il fabbisogno termico e di acqua calda sanitaria di un azienda agricola con annesso albergo e piscina; 2. impianto a sminuzzato in grado di erogare una potenza utile di 61 kW per il fabbisogno termico e di acqua calda sanitaria di un azienda agricola. Per valutare gli aspetti energetici e gli effetti ambientali della filiera energetica proposta nel presente studio è stata scelta la metodologia LCA (Life Cycle Assessment). Le due filiere oggetto di dettagliate analisi nel corso della ricerca, sono state quindi valutate utilizzando la metodologia LCA, applicata tramite il software GEMIS, al fine di confrontare l'impatto ambientale della filiera Legno-Energia rispetto all'uso del GPL, combustibile precedentemente utilizzato nelle aziende e l’unica vera alternativa nei contesti di studio. I risultati mostrano i benefici dell'utilizzo di una fonte energetica rinnovabile in termini di emissioni atmosferiche e sostenibilità della filiera di autoconsumo. ; The heating energy production, can be achieved by taking multiple technical and technology solutions. In order to promote energy efficiency and environmental sustainability can be used woody biomass fuel. For the biomass energetic systems, with the present study were highlighted the environmental, the social and the economic impact. In this study the comparison was done between different systems and methods of analysis. We analyzed two case studies: 1. An installation capable of delivering a heating power output of 650 kW, for a rural farm with a rural hotel and swimming pool; 2. An installation capable of delivering a heating power output of 61 kW for a rural house and services. To evaluate the energy and environmental effects of proposed energy chain in the present study was chosen the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methodology. The two cases subject to detailed analysis in the course of research were assessed using the LCA methodology by the GEMIS software, to compare the environmental impacts of the woody biomass fuel in comparison at the use of GPL fuel. The results show the benefits of using a renewable energy source in terms of air emissions and sustainability which the chain of self consumption.

    In questa tesi vengono analizzati alcuni schemi circuitali di convertitori di micro potenze da generatori termoelettrici sottoposti a gradienti di temperatura limitati. I circuiti, basati su oscillatori step-up in grado di innescarsi con tensioni di alimentazione estremamente basse, sono stati analizzati dal punto di vista teorico e mediante successive simulazioni circuitali. Le potenze ottenibili con gradienti di temperatura inferiori a 10K risultano tipicamente comprese tra qualche uW e qualche decina di uW, con efficienze fino a circa il 40%.

    Dottorato di ricerca in Ecologia forestale ; Allo scopo di studiare l’effetto dell’incremento di temperatura e della riduzione delle precipitazioni su di un ecosistema di gariga dominato da Cistus monspeliensis L. (Cistaceae), Dorycnium pentaphyllum Scop. (Fabaceae) and Helichrysum italicum subsp. microphyllum (Asteraceae) situato nel nord ovest della Sardegna, è stata condotta una manipolazione del microclima che ha incrementato le temperature minime (+0.9 °C, trattamento warming) e ridotto le precipitazioni (-20%, trattamento drought ). Sulle tre specie sono stati monitorati gli scambi gassosi e il potenziale idrico, su C. monspeliensis, specie dominante, anche la capacità fotosintetica, il rapporto Fv/Fm, la morfologia della foglia e del getto e il contenuto in azoto fogliare. H. italicum (specie con apparato radicale superficiale) è risultata la specie più sensibile sia all’aridità naturale sia a quella simulata dal trattamento drought, con la maggiore riduzione dei tassi di fotosintesi durante l’estate e uno scarso recupero in autunno, D. pentaphyllum (specie con apparato radicale profondo) quella più resistente, con la minore depressione estiva dell’assimilazione di CO2 e un completo recupero autunnale. Come H. italicum, C. monspeliensis (specie con apparato radicale superficiale) mostra una forte riduzione della fotosintesi in aridità, spiegata soprattutto da limitazioni stomatiche e da un incremento di LMA, ma anche un veloce recupero autunnale, legato all’espansione della lamina fogliare delle foglie estive ad elevato LMA. In questa specie il trattamento drought ha indotto una acclimatazione della fotosintesi allo stress idrico e un ritardo nel recupero autunnale, mentre il trattamento warming un incremento della capacità fotosintetica, delle dimensioni del getto e delle foglie e del contenuto in azoto fogliare, forse dovuto ad una maggiore mineralizzazione dell’azoto nel suolo. ; In order to investigate how the forecast temperature increase and rainfall reduction could affect Mediterranean shrubland ecosystems, the adaptions of Cistus monspeliensis L. (Cistaceae), Dorycnium pentaphyllum Scop. (Fabaceae) and Helichrysum italicum subsp. microphyllum (Willd.) (Asteraceae), to the actual Mediterranean climate, as well as their responses to manipulation of minimum temperature (+0.9 °C) and rainfall (- 20 %), were studied from 2009 to 2011 in a garrigue ecosystem, located in the NW of Sardinia . Gas exchange at leaf level and pre-dawn leaf water potential were monitored in the three species. In addition, photosynthetic capacity, maximum quantum yield of PSII, carbon and nitrogen leaf content and morphology at leaf and shoot level were also recorded in C. mospeliensis. The comparison among species, based on photosynthesis and water potential, identified H. italicum (shallow rooted species) as the most sensitive species to the natural and simulated drought, because of the strong reduction of gas exchange rates during drought and the slow recovery in Autumn, and D. pentaphyllum (deep rooted species) as the most resistant one, whit the littlest reduction of photosynthesis rates in summer. As H. italicum, C. monspeliensis (shallow rooted species) showed a strong reduction of CO2 assimilation rates during drought, mainly explained by stomatal limitations and LMA increase, but also a quick recovery in Autumn, connected to the lamina expansion in the high LMA summer leaves. In this species the drought treatment induced photosynthesis acclimation to water stress and a delayed Autumn recovery, while warming treatment an increase of the photosynthetic capacity, leaf nitrogen content and shoot and leaf size, maybe connected to an enhancement of soil nitrogen mineralization rates.

    Dottorato di ricerca in Scienze e tecnologie per la gestione forestale e ambientale ; La produzione di energia termica, può essere realizzata adottando molteplici soluzioni tecniche/tecnologiche. Al fine di promuovere la sostenibilità energetica ed ambientale può essere utilizzato combustibile originato da biomassa legnosa. Nell’ambito degli impianti a biomassa, col presente elaborato si mette in evidenza l’impatto ambientale, sociale ed economico, attraverso il confronto tra impianti e metodologie di analisi differenti. Sono stati analizzati nel dettaglio due casi studio : 1. Impianto a sminuzzato in grado di erogare una potenza utile di 650 kW, per il fabbisogno termico e di acqua calda sanitaria di un azienda agricola con annesso albergo e piscina; 2. impianto a sminuzzato in grado di erogare una potenza utile di 61 kW per il fabbisogno termico e di acqua calda sanitaria di un azienda agricola. Per valutare gli aspetti energetici e gli effetti ambientali della filiera energetica proposta nel presente studio è stata scelta la metodologia LCA (Life Cycle Assessment). Le due filiere oggetto di dettagliate analisi nel corso della ricerca, sono state quindi valutate utilizzando la metodologia LCA, applicata tramite il software GEMIS, al fine di confrontare l'impatto ambientale della filiera Legno-Energia rispetto all'uso del GPL, combustibile precedentemente utilizzato nelle aziende e l’unica vera alternativa nei contesti di studio. I risultati mostrano i benefici dell'utilizzo di una fonte energetica rinnovabile in termini di emissioni atmosferiche e sostenibilità della filiera di autoconsumo. ; The heating energy production, can be achieved by taking multiple technical and technology solutions. In order to promote energy efficiency and environmental sustainability can be used woody biomass fuel. For the biomass energetic systems, with the present study were highlighted the environmental, the social and the economic impact. In this study the comparison was done between different systems and methods of analysis. We analyzed two case studies: 1. An installation capable of delivering a heating power output of 650 kW, for a rural farm with a rural hotel and swimming pool; 2. An installation capable of delivering a heating power output of 61 kW for a rural house and services. To evaluate the energy and environmental effects of proposed energy chain in the present study was chosen the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methodology. The two cases subject to detailed analysis in the course of research were assessed using the LCA methodology by the GEMIS software, to compare the environmental impacts of the woody biomass fuel in comparison at the use of GPL fuel. The results show the benefits of using a renewable energy source in terms of air emissions and sustainability which the chain of self consumption.

    In questa tesi vengono analizzati alcuni schemi circuitali di convertitori di micro potenze da generatori termoelettrici sottoposti a gradienti di temperatura limitati. I circuiti, basati su oscillatori step-up in grado di innescarsi con tensioni di alimentazione estremamente basse, sono stati analizzati dal punto di vista teorico e mediante successive simulazioni circuitali. Le potenze ottenibili con gradienti di temperatura inferiori a 10K risultano tipicamente comprese tra qualche uW e qualche decina di uW, con efficienze fino a circa il 40%.
