The Brazilian project Carne Carbono Neutro (CCN) assumes that a more sustainable beef will increase its value for the consumers. The paper aims to verify this assumption and to suggest a communication strategy supporting the CCN valorization. An online survey involving 506 Brazilian consumers showed three different classes of consumers with significantly different attitudes towards environmental issues. Price and quality always strongly influence their demand for beef. A communication campaign should focus on the CCN lower beef environmental impact and beef price/quality issues. One of the most important routes for cultural tourism in Bali connects the seaside tourist town of Sanur to the provincial capital city of Denpasar, continues through the Sukawati Art Market, skirts the village of Mas, site of many studios and workshops, and culminates in Ubud, the historic artistic center of Bali. The city of Ubud is the epicenter of a renowned tradition of painting but it is also a community staggering under the influx of tourists arriving via this route. The roadway from Sanur to Ubud illustrates a range of different types of arts-based heritage tourism, from mass produced art for beachside tourists in Sanur to several high-end galleries in Ubud. This trajectory of towns and their varied relationships with the arts and tourism illustrate the potentials and pitfalls of arts tourism as a means of development, and this roadway highlights the challenges of crafting sustainable routes for tourists interested in the arts. With the rising environmental problems there are international movements towards sustainability and greening the built environments in order to mitigate the negative environmental impacts of buildings and human activities on environment and human health. This paper presents a range of K-12 Green Schools that were intentionally designed to utilize school building as a 3D-text book for Environmental Education (EE). The aim of this paper is to examine the methods and strategies of designing green school as a teaching tool through case study analysis of the selected schools. The cases provide a diversity of geographic locations, climates, green strategies and coasts. The research depends on the descriptive analytical approach for literature review; multiple-case study analysis to investigate the attributes of green schools that teach. The INTENSSS PA project, funded by Horizon 2020, the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation of the European Union, aims to support the local authorities involved and their stakeholders to develop an innovative integrated sustainable energy planning concept through a participatory, interdisciplinary and multilevel process. By building individual and institutional capacity of the actors involved, using the Regional Living Lab approach, the concept will be applied in order to develop seven sustainable integrated energy plans. Freight transport has emerged as one of the most critical and dynamic aspects of the transport sector where change has become the norm. It is now the main element supporting global commodity and more generally supply chains. Yet the lack of seamlessness and inefficiencies in general as well as the rising costs and complexities of shipping and delivering goods are adding to profit pressures faced by manufacturers across the globe. Our paper first discusses the concept of seamlessness, and then examines some of the consequences of the lack of seamlessness in terms of freight transport inefficiencies. We then begin to examine the new developments in which intermodality, technology (e-commerce), and logistics are changing and will have the impact of heightening competitive advantage and reducing constraint points in production value chains and global production networks. Finally the intent is to show how research on this theme might be advanced in a trans-Atlantic framework.

Perennial rhizomatous grasses (PRGs) are seen as a feasible opportunity to produce second generation biofuels. Among PRGs, giant reed (Arundo donax L.) is a promising energy crop, particularly for the Mediterranean environment characterized by low precipitation and high evapotranspiration rates during the summer period. The species is in fact robust and able to thrive in a wide range of soil types and under drought conditions. However, it remains a major challenge to better understand the yield potential and the crop responses to marginal soils, such as those where water and nutrients may represent limiting factors. In this work we evaluated giant reed aboveground and belowground biomass partitioning, from the establishment to the third year, in a marginal soil. Giant reed showed a significant increment of the rhizome biomass, reaching values of about 16 t ha-1 in the third year. Maximum total aboveground biomass increased steeply from the first to the second year, while a slight increase was highlighted from the second to the third one (20 t ha-1). Furthermore, our data suggest that, in a limiting environment, after three years the crop was not fully established yet. In conclusion, giant reed shows quite a good adaptability to marginal land, in particular those characterized by a low water retention capacity. Sustainability in tourism assumes the balance among the economic, environmental, cultural, and social dimensions that intervene in its activities to optimize its benefits, without any prejudice to society and the environment. In this sense, there is a worldwide movement to make the tourism sector agents aware, with the intention of broadening sustainable and practical actions. With this perspective, this study aimed to verify the current state of the activities performed by the tourism sector in Brazil regarding the determinations (criteria, principles and goals) developed by national and international institutions. Through descriptive research with a quantitative approach, stakeholders linked to the Brazilian tourism sector participated in this study. The results showed that in Brazil there is still a need for more involvement and cooperation among residents, tourists and tourism operators linked to the tourism sector, with a commitment to sustainably balance the economic, environmental, cultural and social dimensions of its activities. It was also found that the environmental dimension was portrayed as having the least compliance with sustainability, that is, the activities of the Brazilian tourism sector are the ones that are the most deficient and require the largest investment. Climate change is a current phenomenon: the temperatures rise, rainfall patterns are changing, glaciers melt and the average global sea level is rising. It is expected that these changes will continue and that the extreme weather events, such as floods and droughts, will become more frequent and intense. The impact and vulnerability factors for nature, for the economy and for our health are different, depending on the territorial, social and economic aspects. The current scientific debate is focused on the need to formulate effective policies for adaptation and mitigation to climate change. The city plays an important role in this issue: it emits the most greenhouse gas emissions (more than 60% of the world population currently lives in urban areas) and the city is more exposed and vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Urban planning and territorial governance play a crucial role in this context: the international debate on the sustainability of urban areas is increasing.
