    Biomass fermentation is one of the important sources of renewable energy in EU. Application of multi-enzymatic hydrolysis process enables a significant increase in efficiency of biogas production. The main goal of the paper is to present the results of the pilot scale research performed in WWTP in óstroda. The fixed combination of three enzymes was continiously introduced: amylase, lipase and protease. Research aimed at verifying the impact of enzyme dose on sludge digestion process and on the amount of biogas produced. Statistical analysis of the research results allows to determine the influence of dosing the enzymes in mesophilic digestion on the biogas production.

    The aim of this study was to investigate the ability of kinetic equations to describe the sorption kinetics and expansion rate of solid coal samples. In order to address his issue the sorption kinetics of methane and carbon dioxide on bituminous coals were studied. At the same time, the changes occurring in the sample’s overall dimensions, which accompanied sorption processes, were monitored. Experiments were carried out at high pressure by means of the volumetric method on a cubicoid solid samples. Several literature-based modeling approaches and equations are proposed to fit the kinetic curves of gas deposition, as well as the adequate kinetics of coal swelling. First equation represents the traditional approach to interpret experimental data in terms of fast and slow sorption process and consider the combination of two first-order rate functions. The other empirical kinetic equations are: the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation (PSOE), Elovich equation and the stretched exponential equation (SE). Two of the four equations are suitable to describe the kinetics of methane and carbon dioxide sorption and have been successfully used to quantify the observed dilatometric phenomena rates. The stretched exponential equation gave the best fit to the experimental data.

    In 2016, six new municipal waste combustion plants will be operating in Poland. These projects, located in: Białystok, Bydgoszcz, Konin, Kraków, Poznań and Szczecin, will influence waste management in Poland as well as change energy security of the country. So far in Poland only one Waste-to-Energy (WtE) plant, i.e. in the capital city of Warsaw, has been operating. Unfortunately, this is not enough, taking into account Polish economic development in the last years. Polish accession to the European Union (EU) significantly influenced the development of the industry which resulted in increased production of waste while the management system was not prepared to handle it in the proper way so there was a big amount of waste. The main way to deal with waste in Poland was, and still is, landfilling which can be in many ways dangerous for the environment. The EU law have put pressure on Polish Waste Management Systems and results are visible in currently realized Waste-to-Energy projects. This work analysis of the aforementioned 6 projects from economic (project value, funding from the European Union) and technological (used technology, waste throughout, availability etc.) point of view together with their impact on the entire waste management system and energy security. What is more, history of similar facilities in Poland is presented, what shows how many projects were prepared, how many fell through and time frame of finally realised projects (start of construction and the planned completion). Conclusions show why in the current situation development of Polish WtE infrastructure is right, i.e. operation of aforementioned plants that will ensure benefits associated with energy production, reduction of landfilling and informing public opinion regarding modern waste management models. Additionally, the article draws attention on the high responsibility that will be put on WtE plants operators and that experience gained during WtE implementation can be used to improve even further for future Polish Waste Management Systems.

    In this study, the application potential of desiccant cooling system with indirect evaporative precooling is analyzed for moderate climatic conditions. Wrocław (Poland) was selected as a representative city. On the base of summer season weather parameters different system running modes were proposed such as cooling and dehumidification mode (Mode 1) and only cooling mode (Mode 2). The average month Thermal and Electrical COP were established for selected climatic conditions. It was concluded that proposed system allows to cool the air without occurrence of condensation in Mode 2 with high average monthly electrical COP (COPel = 62.2 in August). On the other hand when dehumidification is needed, system operates in Mode 1 and obtains relatively high average Thermal COP values (COPth = 2.2).

    In the present work, results of experimental research on the mains water temperature supplying the Solar Domestic Hot Water system in the period from 2016 to 2018 are shown. The test object is located in the Hotel for Research Assistants on Bialystok University of Technology campus in Poland. One of the elements that will guarantee the correct energy balance of a hot tap-water system is the exact determination of the cold water temperature. The aim of this study is estimation of the temperature of the mains water flowing into the district heating substation and the water feeding directly the heat storage tanks. The research results showed that the average value of the cold water was 14.09°C during the 3 years of measurements. Moreover, it was shown that this temperature increased by about 0.4°C as a result of heat exchange with the air inside the substation. In the article, the author proposed modifications of coefficients in a commonly used model developed by National Renewable Energy Laboratory for determining the temperature of mains water in energy simulations. The proposed changes allow for accurate modelling of the cold water temperature under the climate conditions of north-eastern Poland.

    Over the past few decades the World has experienced a revolution in Energy production from solar technology, mostly from photovoltaics. On the other hand, an increasing number of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) applications are also noticed. Combining photovoltaics and UAVs reveals many opportunities for researchers and renewable energy industry. Responding to the challenge of large area observations at remote locations, the conception of an autonomous photovoltaic station integrated with UAV has been proposed. The essential advantage of the station is its energetic autonomy. The station is movable and can be installed in various locations all over the World. It can be implemented for a wide range of applications, i.e. examining hydroelectric, solar or wind power stations. The simulation results of energy production from PV system mounted on the station have been shown in this work. Several issues were taken into account for the calculations: tilt and azimuth of PV modules, irradiation at case study location and energy demand of the station’s equipment. The energy usage of five and eight hours daily of UAV flights was estimated. Energy balance was calculated.

    Urban transport vehicles have a large share in city traffic. This results in higher emission of hazardous substances and poses direct threat for human life by causing smog. Research and implementation works are underway to prevent this situation. In city transport attention is given to electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as gas vehicles that are used. The last group, i.e. city buses with engines fuelled with methane fuels have positive impact on decreasing emission of certain hazardous substances. This article addresses internal tests and their results that confirm the rationality underlying the use of these fuels in city transport buses.

    In the paper the simulations of the low enthalpy energy source for brine-to-water heat pump using EED software had been presented. Authors indicated the influence of the ground parameters’ assumptions on the low enthalpy heat pump’s energy source simulation’s results. Based on the real borehole geological profile and data available in literature, the ground thermal conductivity coefficients have been calculated making different assumptions concerning the ground thermal properties. The calculated ground thermal conductivity coefficients along with the calculated source sizes, heat pump parameters and the heated building thermal performance served as the input data for the simulation software. The outcomes of the analyses include the temperatures of brine entering the heat pump as well as the brine initial temperature. Outcomes served for the low enthalpy energy source performance evaluation.

    Nowadays, the worldwide growing demand for energy from renewable sources is observed. This fact is related to a number of factors, especially environmental ones. In the renewable energy sector, the most dynamic development which can be seen is wind energy. This is due to the construction of huge wind turbines, whose power exceeds even a few megawatts. The main problem that should be solved is finding a proper location for such turbines. Generally, wind turbines are located off-shore and on-shore. The most favourable are off-shore due to better wind condition, which relates to power generation. Notwithstanding, it is possible to install smaller turbines in urban areas: so-called wind turbines in built-up areas or integrate wind turbines with buildings (BIWT). This creates an opportunity to develop an integrated system of small energy sources located directly in cities. However, it is necessary to be aware of the many problems connected with the above mentioned installations. The article presents an overview and data related to operation of wind turbines integrated with the Center of Energy AGH building.

    Regulations and standards concerning noise road and rail barriers are presented together with an actual state-of-the-art in Europe. Application of photovoltaics to such infrastructure are considered. The targets of international CEFRABID research project, realised within ERA-SOLAR.NET European program, and concerning photovoltaic road and rail noise barriers for Austria, Cyprus, Poland and Spain, at different environmental and soil conditions, including mining terrains are shortly presented.

    Biomass fermentation is one of the important sources of renewable energy in EU. Application of multi-enzymatic hydrolysis process enables a significant increase in efficiency of biogas production. The main goal of the paper is to present the results of the pilot scale research performed in WWTP in óstroda. The fixed combination of three enzymes was continiously introduced: amylase, lipase and protease. Research aimed at verifying the impact of enzyme dose on sludge digestion process and on the amount of biogas produced. Statistical analysis of the research results allows to determine the influence of dosing the enzymes in mesophilic digestion on the biogas production.

    The aim of this study was to investigate the ability of kinetic equations to describe the sorption kinetics and expansion rate of solid coal samples. In order to address his issue the sorption kinetics of methane and carbon dioxide on bituminous coals were studied. At the same time, the changes occurring in the sample’s overall dimensions, which accompanied sorption processes, were monitored. Experiments were carried out at high pressure by means of the volumetric method on a cubicoid solid samples. Several literature-based modeling approaches and equations are proposed to fit the kinetic curves of gas deposition, as well as the adequate kinetics of coal swelling. First equation represents the traditional approach to interpret experimental data in terms of fast and slow sorption process and consider the combination of two first-order rate functions. The other empirical kinetic equations are: the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation (PSOE), Elovich equation and the stretched exponential equation (SE). Two of the four equations are suitable to describe the kinetics of methane and carbon dioxide sorption and have been successfully used to quantify the observed dilatometric phenomena rates. The stretched exponential equation gave the best fit to the experimental data.

    In 2016, six new municipal waste combustion plants will be operating in Poland. These projects, located in: Białystok, Bydgoszcz, Konin, Kraków, Poznań and Szczecin, will influence waste management in Poland as well as change energy security of the country. So far in Poland only one Waste-to-Energy (WtE) plant, i.e. in the capital city of Warsaw, has been operating. Unfortunately, this is not enough, taking into account Polish economic development in the last years. Polish accession to the European Union (EU) significantly influenced the development of the industry which resulted in increased production of waste while the management system was not prepared to handle it in the proper way so there was a big amount of waste. The main way to deal with waste in Poland was, and still is, landfilling which can be in many ways dangerous for the environment. The EU law have put pressure on Polish Waste Management Systems and results are visible in currently realized Waste-to-Energy projects. This work analysis of the aforementioned 6 projects from economic (project value, funding from the European Union) and technological (used technology, waste throughout, availability etc.) point of view together with their impact on the entire waste management system and energy security. What is more, history of similar facilities in Poland is presented, what shows how many projects were prepared, how many fell through and time frame of finally realised projects (start of construction and the planned completion). Conclusions show why in the current situation development of Polish WtE infrastructure is right, i.e. operation of aforementioned plants that will ensure benefits associated with energy production, reduction of landfilling and informing public opinion regarding modern waste management models. Additionally, the article draws attention on the high responsibility that will be put on WtE plants operators and that experience gained during WtE implementation can be used to improve even further for future Polish Waste Management Systems.

    In this study, the application potential of desiccant cooling system with indirect evaporative precooling is analyzed for moderate climatic conditions. Wrocław (Poland) was selected as a representative city. On the base of summer season weather parameters different system running modes were proposed such as cooling and dehumidification mode (Mode 1) and only cooling mode (Mode 2). The average month Thermal and Electrical COP were established for selected climatic conditions. It was concluded that proposed system allows to cool the air without occurrence of condensation in Mode 2 with high average monthly electrical COP (COPel = 62.2 in August). On the other hand when dehumidification is needed, system operates in Mode 1 and obtains relatively high average Thermal COP values (COPth = 2.2).

    In the present work, results of experimental research on the mains water temperature supplying the Solar Domestic Hot Water system in the period from 2016 to 2018 are shown. The test object is located in the Hotel for Research Assistants on Bialystok University of Technology campus in Poland. One of the elements that will guarantee the correct energy balance of a hot tap-water system is the exact determination of the cold water temperature. The aim of this study is estimation of the temperature of the mains water flowing into the district heating substation and the water feeding directly the heat storage tanks. The research results showed that the average value of the cold water was 14.09°C during the 3 years of measurements. Moreover, it was shown that this temperature increased by about 0.4°C as a result of heat exchange with the air inside the substation. In the article, the author proposed modifications of coefficients in a commonly used model developed by National Renewable Energy Laboratory for determining the temperature of mains water in energy simulations. The proposed changes allow for accurate modelling of the cold water temperature under the climate conditions of north-eastern Poland.

    Over the past few decades the World has experienced a revolution in Energy production from solar technology, mostly from photovoltaics. On the other hand, an increasing number of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) applications are also noticed. Combining photovoltaics and UAVs reveals many opportunities for researchers and renewable energy industry. Responding to the challenge of large area observations at remote locations, the conception of an autonomous photovoltaic station integrated with UAV has been proposed. The essential advantage of the station is its energetic autonomy. The station is movable and can be installed in various locations all over the World. It can be implemented for a wide range of applications, i.e. examining hydroelectric, solar or wind power stations. The simulation results of energy production from PV system mounted on the station have been shown in this work. Several issues were taken into account for the calculations: tilt and azimuth of PV modules, irradiation at case study location and energy demand of the station’s equipment. The energy usage of five and eight hours daily of UAV flights was estimated. Energy balance was calculated.

    Urban transport vehicles have a large share in city traffic. This results in higher emission of hazardous substances and poses direct threat for human life by causing smog. Research and implementation works are underway to prevent this situation. In city transport attention is given to electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as gas vehicles that are used. The last group, i.e. city buses with engines fuelled with methane fuels have positive impact on decreasing emission of certain hazardous substances. This article addresses internal tests and their results that confirm the rationality underlying the use of these fuels in city transport buses.

    In the paper the simulations of the low enthalpy energy source for brine-to-water heat pump using EED software had been presented. Authors indicated the influence of the ground parameters’ assumptions on the low enthalpy heat pump’s energy source simulation’s results. Based on the real borehole geological profile and data available in literature, the ground thermal conductivity coefficients have been calculated making different assumptions concerning the ground thermal properties. The calculated ground thermal conductivity coefficients along with the calculated source sizes, heat pump parameters and the heated building thermal performance served as the input data for the simulation software. The outcomes of the analyses include the temperatures of brine entering the heat pump as well as the brine initial temperature. Outcomes served for the low enthalpy energy source performance evaluation.

    Nowadays, the worldwide growing demand for energy from renewable sources is observed. This fact is related to a number of factors, especially environmental ones. In the renewable energy sector, the most dynamic development which can be seen is wind energy. This is due to the construction of huge wind turbines, whose power exceeds even a few megawatts. The main problem that should be solved is finding a proper location for such turbines. Generally, wind turbines are located off-shore and on-shore. The most favourable are off-shore due to better wind condition, which relates to power generation. Notwithstanding, it is possible to install smaller turbines in urban areas: so-called wind turbines in built-up areas or integrate wind turbines with buildings (BIWT). This creates an opportunity to develop an integrated system of small energy sources located directly in cities. However, it is necessary to be aware of the many problems connected with the above mentioned installations. The article presents an overview and data related to operation of wind turbines integrated with the Center of Energy AGH building.

    Regulations and standards concerning noise road and rail barriers are presented together with an actual state-of-the-art in Europe. Application of photovoltaics to such infrastructure are considered. The targets of international CEFRABID research project, realised within ERA-SOLAR.NET European program, and concerning photovoltaic road and rail noise barriers for Austria, Cyprus, Poland and Spain, at different environmental and soil conditions, including mining terrains are shortly presented.
